The Greenhouse Banbury in Cherwell

Edit: they have since “rebranded” it seems it’s more of a snack and cocktail bar now, which is a shame because they did great food before. Amazing addition to Banbury, in fact you would mistake that you are in Banbury!!

Utterly dire took ages to get a drink the food was so slow I thought it was going to be breakfast. Party of 8 chicken first arrived undercooked then when we eventually got it back was cooked to the point of not being edible. All without an apology. Was a birthday party and they lost the candles for the cake I won't be returning

Food was great but mostly our waiter Archie was absolutely lovely and made our experience even better. If only all waiters could be as wonderful as him. Thank you Archie, we were only in town for a day and you made it extra special!

Exceptional. We had the most fantastic main and dessert which were both wonderfully and creatively presented and tasted delicious. It was high-end restaurant level. The service from waiting staff was also above and beyond. This restaurant is delivering a classy vibe and great atmosphere, we look forward to coming again. Well done chef & team.

Be sure to check your bill before you pay. Been here twice now, overcharged on the first visit and accepted it was probably a mistake. We didn’t notice until we got home so it was too late to say anything. Went back last night for a celebratory dinner, ordered a bottle of Laurent Perrier which is priced at £75 on the menu, the bill came and they charged us £88.50 for the same bottle of bubbly. No explanation from the staff as to why there’s such a variation on the pricing. Maybe they need to reprint their menus if they have implemented a price increase. Our food was ok, the restaurant is stylish but service is ridiculously slow (no one even offered us a dessert menu despite me adding in the reservation notes that it was a birthday celebration). However, the friendly staff kind of balance out the experience. Overall it’s an ok place to go but won’t be rushing back.

Quite possibly the best restaurant in Banbury, superb location, fantastic food, and the staff were wonderful. Not too expensive either.

Bad music and volume send customers away from here

Had a birthday meal here with a mixed group of kids and adults. The ambience here is great for both adults and kids. Service was fantastic and the food was delicious. Will definitely come back!

Pop In recently to meet friends for lunch, i was very impressed with the overall experience, the staff were very friendly, food was amazing a big thank you to the chef Kieron who made our day special, would definitely eat their again.

We had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. Great atmosphere and lovely decorations. Kieran, the head chef was really lovely and cooked us some delicious meals.... Would highly recommend Padron Peppers & Tempura Seafood for starters followed by the freshly made Mushroom Tagliatelle and Soy Glazed Salmon for Mains...We are definitely going back for more......Overall great experience!!!!!

We were recommended this restaurant from friends whilst visiting Banbury and couldn’t fault the ambience and service of the restaurant together with the presentation and quality of the food. Special mention to the Scotch Egg, Tempura Seafood, Tuna Nicoise and Pork Tenderloin which were thoroughly enjoyed by our party of four. We were unable to sample the puddings as we were all full. However, on seeing them presented to other guests they all looked amazing too! We have already booked another table when we are back in Banbury for December!

After visiting for cocktails on Friday night, we returned for food today. The restaurant feels spacious, modern and overlooks the canal. Really friendly and relaxed, helpful service. I can recommend the savoury Scotch egg starter, tasty chicken supreme with chunky chips and dressed rocket then white chocolate panna cotta. Now looking forward to a Christmas meal there soon!

All round poor, cold & bad beer. Waiting staff are ok but the management don’t understand customer service and send messages through the waiters rather than address issues themselves.I can’t stress how bad the Beer is

Hidden away place with excellent food and service you honestly feel like you are not in Banbury that's for sure! We were served by jack and he went out of the way to make sure we had what we needed We will definitely be back :)

A bit slow for refilling our drinks for bottomless brunch but thats just me being an alcoholic. Great service from Val and Jack. Very polite, top guys couldn't ask for better from those two. Would come back and recommend to all! Food was perfect!

Popped in here at the weekend. Sat on the terrace where other customers were. Waiter took drinks order and explained its table service. Then went on to say he needed to take payment first, I questioned this as table service usually a tab can be set up. Plus it was quite clear others were ordering and not having to pay immediately. I can only think this is because I was dressed in a tracksuit, so to be judged on the way I dress explains why we only stayed for one drink. Disappointing really

Good place, nice location and friendly staff but the cleanliness of cutlery was very poor. I sat down on table and saw stained knives and forks. The biggest turn off was when I ordered single espresso shot and spoon that I was served was the dirtiest one. Overall very friendly and lovely atmosphere and staff members were very helpful but I will be more careful in using its cutlery and plates.

Superb afternoon tea. Wonderful service from Josh and Jack - two delightful, helpful young men. Our first visit but definitely not our last. Highly recommend this venue

Really beautiful place - myself and a friend went for brunch on Saturday 16th and all the staff were really friendly and accommodating. Lovely food, great music, just a lovely place to be.

My brother got married and had his reception here. I still feel deeply confused about the extraordinary politeness, intelligence and consciousness of all the staff. You would think it impossible for the high quality staff to eclipse the amazing layout and location….but they do. The most respectful, helpful people I have come across in hospitality. Vanishingly rare these days.

We booked at The Greenhouse as it is local to us and I had previously had an enjoyable supper there. Caitlin and her team were very attentive and service was perfectly paced. We had a couple of cheeky cocktails and fabulous food all round. The place was pleasantly buzzy for a Wednesday night. We would go back!

A lovely visit to the roof top terrace today with my family including the dog. Amazing service from Jack who was really friendly and helpful. The food was really tasty, although portions in the smaller side. We'll definitely be back soon

We had a lovely dinner at the Greenhouse. Staff was really great, very polite. The atmosphere ant the view both superb. It was a big group of us so we tried most of the menu. Kids had pizza’s and they were okay, it would be better if they were already cut into slices before serving as it was a bit difficult to cut them on a tiny chopping board it was served and with no sharp knife. I had a burger - very good, I would order it again. Sirloin steak was a bit overcooked than what was ordered, but still a nice cut and everything tasted good together. Tuna steaks were good, but more leafy greens on the plate would be preferred. Soy salmon was perfect! Tagliatelle carbonara was cooked al dente but needed a lot more sauce on it. Lemon curd cake had extremely hard base but lemon curd was nice. Choco brownie was very nice. Ice cream portions quite generous (3 scoops) but could have some sort of decorations ( maybe few dashes of maching sauce or chocolate sprinkles). Limoncello must be served straight from the freezer or in a cooled glass. It was warm when we got it and it wasn’t as enjoyable as it could have been. To sum up we would score our dinner 4.5 out of 5 🌟

Only had a drink. Very relaxing with friendly staff. Will be back for a meal.

Had a fabulous time but was given the wrong bill

We arrived at Greenhouse for Bottomless Brunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were immediately greeted by a team of helpful and positive staff. The food was delicious, good value for money & presented beautifully. The service was impeccable. Id like to mention in particular- our waiter Jack. He was incredibly personable, upbeat, attentive and even put up with our hideous banter. We stayed for an extra cocktail after our brunch and it most definitely set our saturday off on the right foot!!!

Regularly come to The Greenhouse for drinks and food and have been served on multiple occasions by Josh, always with a smile! He is so friendly and helpful, offering suggestions and making sure we have everything we need! Would definitely recommend to others as a place to go in Banbury

The staff and food were both incredible. Yanis and Josh had great customer service offering advice regarding the menu and following up to see if everything was up to standard. They spent time to engage with the customers and were always on hand when needed. The food was excellent from the cauliflower wings (delicious) and salmon with noodle. The ambience was very cool and buzzy...would definitely return. Cocktails were also yum!

The waiter we had was very bubbly and cheerful and very helpful which is a great start. I had the tagliatelle carbonara which was a bit too pepper-y for my taste but I'm not a fan of pepper anyway. The portion came out smaller than I expected but it was very filling (I'm a big eater so I don't say that often) so that made up for the portion. The triple cooked chips were great and had a good amount of salt on them. Overall it was a pleasant experience amd I would happily eat here again

Excellent service on a busy Friday night! We were served by Jess and Josh who were both amazing and super helpful, we had drinks and a dessert each which were great and beautifully presented. Would definitely recommend :)

Had a lovely time with my partner. We both had the pan fried chicken and was relatively delicious. The service was what made the experience so great. Our waitress Julia was wonderful and gave us great cocktail recommendations. She was attentive and took great care of us. However I was disappointed with the fact that I could not leave a tip on the card machine for her and had to leave cash instead. Overall I recommend this place and would definitely go again.

Lovely lunch at the Greenhouse! Very friendly service and great setting looking onto on the canal. We loved the cauliflower wings, fish cake and gnocchi and they were all beautifully presented. The gnocchi was clearly handmade and so tasty! We will definitely be back 😊

Bad move from floor manager ruined what started out as nice experience. Seated by friendly waitress who put 2 tables together for us to be away from large party of 12. Only for manager to come 30mins later & say: “she’d made a mistake” when he was “on his break” & we had to move (carrying our own drinks) this was just as our kids food was arriving at table. After being moved near the party table, the kids food appeared (again) 5 minutes before “some” of our food arrived; a further 5 mins later the remainder arrived. What never arrived was an apology from the manager, or any offer to smooth things over. Such a shame, but echoing a lot of recent reviews of this place, lovely setting, ok food & drink, but service let’s it down. Have never been moved in a restaurant! Sadly will not be visiting again.

Great setting, and beautifully decorated. Service was ok, really friendly, the old fashioned was exceptional. The food was abit disappointing for the price. The soy salmon dish was the smallest, thinnest piece of salmon served with a tiny pile of cold noodles, really unappealing. Desserts were not good. The place has great potential but need to work on the food offering. For the price needs to be of a higher standard.

This place looks nice but I've not managed to find out how to actually get into it! My partner and I climbed up the stairs at the side, past a sign that said OPEN, to a deserted terrace area with a toilet and an open door to what seemed like a broom cupboard. We could see people sitting inside but there was no indication of how to get in, no sign saying This Way or any member of staff. So we left. Might be an idea to make it a bit more obvious how to get in.

Service very slow serving drinks , puddings need to be addressed more, Panna Cotta very grainy not a nice taste, pastry very hard on other pudding. Fish cakes where good,most other were good.

Gourmet burger was great quality but at £18 its really pushing the limits of value. Service and atmosphere were great.

Went here today for a pre birthday celebration and it was fantastic! The staff were very welcoming and friendly, the ambience was lovely. The star of the show was our food that was cooked to utter perfection! It's so nice to find a new restaurant that delivers great food. We were so happy with our delicious food, that will will be visiting again very soon.

Absolutely fab, child friendly by day and romantic and scenic by night. Just has the best of both worlds! Absolutely loved it, our new place to dine for sure! Overpriced small portions of average food ,if its a meal you want head somewhere else.

Friday evening celebrations. Visited with my wife and friends, it was our silver wedding anniversary and we were looked after throughout. The hostess and staff were efficient and chatty. Can’t wait to visit again.

Lovely looking place, staff is friendly and thats as far as the positives go. Wait for food or drinks is terrible, be prepared to wait at least 40 mins for drinks, food is a little over price for what it is, but you will also a while wait for that. When trying to pay, again you will have to wait... As much as the place looks good, until the services improves I won't be returning.

I visited yesterday afternoon. only us 4 and another 2 people who only had drinks. we were told we could seat anywhere, which was great, but the whole place was freezing. The heaters above our heads are pointing mainly between tables and not over the tables. We had to keep our coats on as the draft was so cold around our legs and shoulders. The waiting team did not know to give the Sunday roast menu on Sundays, after a check with the kitchen they gave us the Sunday menu... what a disappointment, it was tasteless and the beef was sliced overcooked like you find in the plastic packet at the supermarket. the kitchen had rung the service bell but the staff were too busy chatting at the bar amongst themselves to notice for a good 5 mins, our food sat there on the service counter, us watching it get cold. We had to get the attention of a different waitress as our waiter was now busy looking at videos and pics on a ladie's phone at another table, we never saw him again, he was busy socialising. After getting the attention of a different waitress we re-ordered our drinks that the 1st waiter never brought to us. The puddings were ordered but then billed wrongly as adult puddings when the kids ordered kid's pudding, but again poor training and an I don't care attitude is what it gives you. service was in the end poor, the food was poor, the setting was pretty but freezing. I spent almost £100, I will make a formal complaint as I feel robbed, and I was robbed with the wrong billing but the staff couldn't wait to get us out and I was too cold to stand there and argue. I do not recommend, I will never go back unless it is for me to train the staff. This place has potential but wasting it!

Exactly what Banbury needs!!! Beautiful setting, amazing food, wicked cocktails and just the absolute best staff! We booked here to celebrate an anniversary - we mentioned this in passing when ordering our cocktails. Imagine our utter delight when the drinks arrive with complimentary glasses of fizz. The food is devine! Perfect for sharing The staff - they are bloody lovely! Wish more folk in the service industry had your passion and enthusiasm, thank you!

First visit on a Friday night for my daughters Birthday, booked a table and told we could sit wherever we wanted?! Our waitress was next to useless, gave us the drinks menu and said she’d be back with water and the food menu, waited 10 minutes and had to ask twice before we got them and we weren’t even asked if we wanted to order drinks. The food was the best part about the evening, absolutely delicious and couldn’t fault it. We had all finished our food and sat there for 20 minutes, plates not cleared and our waitress nowhere to be seen, others walked passed and looked, but did nothing! We asked for the bill as couldn’t bare seeing how long we would wait for desserts and it came with a 12.5% service charge on, which I asked to be taken off and then waited for ages for the new bill, the card machine and a receipt 😡 Not a great experience for a family celebration, will hesitate to go back again, unless we had a different waiter/waitress.

Great place to eat. Food and service both excellent. We went ten pin bowling then went upstairs for food and drinks - The Light Complex is a great addition to Banbury and the Greenhouse comes well recommended. We will be back!

I visited The Greenhouse in Banbury with my daughter today. The lunch we had was delicious and beautifully presented . We had a selection of their tapas and the focaccia was the tastiest I have ever had, the squid in tempura batter was so light it didn’t take anything away from the squid. Everything else was equally delicious. The decor was elegant and comfortable.We will definitely return

Excellent and refreshing addition to Banbury The atmosphere was very good in the restaurant, food tasty and prepared with love. Winter salad was attractive and tasted nice, the short rib was good quality meat, well seasoned and so tender and the creme brulee was dreamy. The only feedback I'd give is that it really needed some veg and carbs and it wasn't obvious that the only way you'd get this was by ordering sides, surely better to serve something and charge a little more? I will definitely be back. Thank you

Excellent service and food. I visited with my brother and we ordered house wine and a calamari starter. The calamari was deliciously fresh and tender with a crispy and light batter. The house wine was great value and was lovely. Very happy with our first visit and we are definitely going back to enjoy the food, service and vibe of this very stylish restaurant and bar.

Recommended. Caitlin looked after us so well. It's always the people that make a place. This newly opened restaurant is a great place to share small plates of delicious food in lovely surroundings. On the top level overlooking the Oxford Canal, in The Light Box complex, with an outdoor terrace bar as well as an airey, spacious, modern indoor restaurant this is a fun, stylish place to enjoy; you really feel as though you're in an indoor garden. The food is excellent. Check out the Sliders!!! And the mushroom arancini!!! Among other gorgeous dishes. The dessert menu is good. We had a superb Lemon Merengue - so good we forgot to take a photo!

Second visit - first time was for cocktails (knockout and lovely service), this time was for food yesterday evening. Really enjoyed it - small sharing plates style of menu. Had a really nice halloumi dish with chickpeas and tahini, padron peppers, hassleback potatoes, broccoli with a korean spicy sauce, and some really nice tacos with three different fillings. Weren't planning on dessert but really glad we did - the lemon meringue pie my husband had was one of the best he's ever had (the lemony sauce drizzled over it was amazing) and I had a baked cheesecake drizzled with honey and chopped walnuts. Delicious. Will definitely be going back. Lovely service too :)

Popped in for a pint last night, We paid over £20 for just four drinks, one of them was a coke and they even managed to get a pint wrong!! Not the best/happiest of staff we almost felt like we were intruding, We won't be going again.

Went here Saturday evening first visit. Table not cleared waitress took 20 minutes to take order then didn’t have the brandy requested. Made a silly joke about it which wasn’t professional at all for a member of staff. They weren’t particularly busy and some staff were just standing around. Wasn’t impressed will not return again.

Only just opened & already closing early on a Sunday night website & Google says open until 10 turned us away at 7:45 saying they close at 8. Disappointing.
