The Greenhouse in Cherwell

Ambience & waiter/ress service excellent. Food a bit hit & miss. Menu is very sparse but that’s not an issue, as long as food is up to standard & represents good value for money, which it didn’t in parts. Burger, chicken, celeriac & aubergine dishes good. Goats cheese & beetroot salad terrible! Whole plate was taken up with a HUGE amount of lettuce & not much else. Cheese had been deep fried but served cold & had no flavour. Beetroot was a sort of patty ball & overtaken by spice (think cumin). I think I had approx 4 pieces of each. Really disappointed for the £. One guest ordered a side of garden salad. It was a bowl of rocket lettuce & some Parmesan. Garden salad it was not! Desserts were ok, chocolate brownie more a chocolate mousse that a brownie. Not sure we’d hurry back.

It was obviously meant to happen... I don't live in Banbury but my friend does. We set off for lunch at The Greenhouse with only the vaguest idea of where it might be when we bumped into Jack who was handing out free dessert vouchers. When we told him that coincidentally we were on our way to The Greenhouse and asked for directions he volunteered to take us. On arrival we were introduced to other members of staff who were friendly and attentive. The chicken I had was the best I can remember so our waiter asked the chef to come out and explain how it was cooked. The food was great and well priced - I've paid more in pubs for meals not cooked from scratch with fresh products. We thoroughly enjoyed The Greenhouse - thank you to the staff for making it so special - I think you deserve 6 stars out 5. BTW I rarely write reviews.

We booked a lunch event 12pm to 6pm to have a simple celebration of our marriage with good friends and family. The staff recognised our vision for what we wanted when others didn't. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious. Our friends all enjoyed it very much. Although presented as a buffet, we had the starters of scotch eggs and courgette fritters, two mains of pork and chicken both with the accompaniments and the chocolate brownie. All delicious . They also produced a plate of seafood for my mother, which was also declared delicious! What a fabulous venue for an occasional and just what we wanted. Music, good wine, good friends and good food! Can't recommend them highly enough.

On Saturday evening I dined at The Greenhouse restaurant with my husband. The food was not only delicious but impeccably presented. The highlight was the cocktails which I dare say were the finest I've come across in Banbury and the prices were very reasonable. Regrettably the overall atmosphere fell short. Despite the apparent effort to combat the cold with outdoor heaters, not all were working which made the dining area cooler than anticipated. A lengthy communal table runs through the restaurant, catering to groups primarily interested in drinking rather than dining. There was a group of 10 patrons on Saturday evening that created a lively pub like atmosphere which was disruptive and detracted from the restaurant dining experience. I feel a better arrangement could enhance the overall ambiance.

A lovely evening with old school friends, food was lovely the staff were very attentive, the only reason I haven't given 5 stars is the price of the wine. 30 pounds for a bottle of house wine is too much. It would put me off going back in the future.

Great spot and very well decorated/ kitted out. Visited on a Saturday night and the place was super quite so not much atmosphere sadly. Parts of the meal was great but a few things let it down such as cold noodles and very slow service from staff. Training definitely wouldn’t go a miss and possibly even a dj to bring the place to life.

I couldn't fault the Greenhouse, they hosted a wonderful birthday lunch for me and my hubby. We had 21 adults and 6 children in the party and they managed to accommodate everyone comfortably. Food was excellent and the venue is so pretty. We were in the main restaurant but had we been a slightly smaller group they had a beautiful private room available. I would highly recommend a visit. We will be back for sure!

Wonderful rooftop spot along the newly refurbished Banbury area along the canal. Service absolutely stellar - Jack, our server, couldn't have been more lovely or attentive. Food was phenomenal - highly recommend the gnocchi. Cocktails also delicious (old fashioned connoisseur here, maple was very tasty). Overall exceptional experience, big thanks to all the staff.

Food was fantastic. The tuna in the Niçoise salad was cooked to perfection and the truffle fries with Parmesan were incredible. The service from Jack was also fantastic. Will definitely be back

We booked the Green House for our wedding reception. We were let down by our original venue with only one month to go, and I’m so glad we were! I contacted the Green House and Lauren went above and beyond to accommodate us at such short notice. The venue was beautiful and we didn’t need any additional decoration, we had the whole restaurant for our exclusive use which meant that we could relax and enjoy our celebration. We had 20 guests for a sit down meal at lunch time and a total of around 80 guests in the evening. The venue easily accommodated this quantity and we had so many compliments and comments from our guests about the venue and staff, everybody loved it. The food was fantastic, the staff were so friendly and helpful and treated us like royalty, and the whole day was just perfect. We were able to play our own music playlist for the whole day and we also had a live band set up too. The venue is next to the canal which is really picturesque and gives great opportunity for some amazing photos. Car parking was easy for our guests and there is lift access up to the venue. There is also a large chain hotel on the other side of the canal which is great for guest accommodation just a stones throw from the venue. I can’t praise this venue enough, I would definitely recommend it to anybody.

We came here for a wedding party recently ; all I can say Is wow. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. They did an absolutely amazing job with the whole event, making sure everybody was happy and enjoying themselves. A member of staff that really stood out to a lot of us attending, was Jack. He is without a doubt the friendliest, most considerate person and absolutely brilliant at his job. Will definitely be booking the Greenhouse for future events! Well done to all team! ♡

Visited September 1st. Restaurant was clean and staff were friendly. Mia, our server, was great. Met the young chef (Brendan??) as well. Asian sticky wings were great. The hamburger was juicy and the roasted chicken wasn't dry. We split an ice cream.dessert that I don't recall the name. Great atmosphere, good food, and friendly service is what we experienced. Enjoy!

I attended The Greenhouse for a wedding event and they did such an amazing job hosting. The entire team of staff were so accommodating in every way to make their big day truly special. The food was absolutely gorgeous, the views are stunning and the staff are so friendly, especially Jack & Josh who went above and beyond the entire day into the night to make sure the guests needs were met.

The location, decor and ambiance at the Greenhouse are phenomenal. Beautiful outdoor, pet friendly terrace. Inside has a retractable roof, and large windows, looking over the canal. It's lovely. The gentleman that took our order was delightful. In fact, all the staff were very pleasant. Our issue was the same as others...terribly slow service. We were literally the only people there when we arrived. It was at least 10 to 15 mins after taking our drinks order before they arrived. It was another 10 mins after that before they took our food order. It was probably another 20 to 25 mins before it arrived. We ordered more drinks halfway through the meal. They didn't arrive till after we were finished. It then took a long time to flag them down for the bill, and after waiting for another 10 mins I eventually just took the card over to them, because who knows how long it would have taken for them to come back. We were there for 2 hours. Another thing to be aware of, it is not very accessible for those who have trouble walking. There were a lot of stairs, and we were informed that there was a lift, but would have had to walk quite a way to reach it. As far as the food, it looked beautiful. Dad enjoyed his poached eggs, mum liked her chicken and waffles, however the waffles were a bit overdone and tough. I added a pic. I had avocado toast, it was quite nice. As other folk have said, this place could be amazing if they just got their act together.

We were really impressed by the quality of the venue, especially in Banbury, which isn't renowned for its spaces. The terrace area looks great and the inside seems to be very versatile, with retractable roof and walls. There's a good variety of seating - full sun, shaded and indoor. The menu is quit limited but that's no bad thing - the food was very good. One small criticism is that in the seafood tempura there was a bit too much squid and not enough prawns and pollock. The tuna in the main course was slightly overcooked, but these are very minor issues. We will definitely be going back. Not cheap but worth it.

Found the Greenhouse during a one night stopover in Banbury. Very pleasant ambience, attentive service from Josh. Great food (fish cake and tenderloin pork), with vegetables cooked to perfection. A very pleasant dining experience.
