We stopped here on a cold and very windy day. Cafe is a bit small, but the cakes are scrumptious and the hot chocolate was perfectly chocolatey, delicious and warming which was just what was needed. Coffee and tea also was great. The two ladies who run the cafe are lovely and bake some really delicious treats. They have a small shop too full of pretty stuff. Will definitely be coming back here next time I'm in Inveraray.

Fab cakes, amazing. Toasted sandwiches which are first class, we had the haggis and cheese one with chutney, wow. Nice cards and other pottery/household bits and pieces. Great service, friendly knowledgeable ladies running the place. If you want a quick, quality bite and a good coffee this is the place.

Superb espresso and soya latte. Super delicious cakes: the espresso and caramel brownie is the best brownie ever, and gluten free too. Also delicious are the ready made bars which are vegan but not available on our second visit. Staff are friendly and proper baristas. Lovely experience and the location is beautiful so you can have your cake and espresso outside enjoying the views.

The Green Door is a cafe we always visit when in Inverary, the coffee is the best in the village( well I think so) and the cakes are to die for. The owner is very friendly and there is a small shop attached with lots of quirky gifts at very reasonable prices. Well worth a visit. There is also outside seating with views of the loch. Once saw an otter playing off the end of the pier. There is also lovely fresh ciabatta or sandwiches made to order.

We popped in for a cup of tea during a visit to Inveraray. Nice looking from outside & nice inside, some nice items in the shop. The look I got from the woman when far from welcoming (how many customers do you get in February during a snow shower?). We sat down then figured that you had to order at the counter despite it being 4 foot from the table, I ordered and sat back down, thinking that as is the norm that the teas & scone would be taken over when ready & that you pay once you are ready to leave. Not here, once the teas were ready all we got was a “teas here” from the woman , so back up to take the tray back to my table and pay for it. The teapot was so small you couldn’t get 2 cups out of it and was a really bad pouring one, probably hence the tray !! Good scone & cake - sensible prices but really let down by odd & poor service especially seeing as we the only customers there !!

We stopped here on a cold, rainy and very windy day, looking for a hot drink and some cake and oh boy this place was great. The two ladies who run the cafe are lovely and bake some delicious treats. If they have it on the day you visit order a slice of the banana and chocolate loaf... Or maybe just the lemon drizzle cake. Both are fantastic. Even though we weren’t too surprised that many places were shut up due to the time of year, we were surprised that the places that were open were so very unfriendly. On a very windy and wet day we stopped off in Inveraray and despite very few options to stop off for refreshments, we came upon the green door which looked super cosy and sweet. There were only four tables and all but one were occupied ( good sign we thought) so my hubby enquired as to if it was ok to occupy the remaining one - no answer just a nod and a “ are you daft?” Look from one of the two ladies who were serving. There were no menus just a few blackboards showing the soup of the day- a sign behind the counter indicating which hot drinks were available and a few cake stands with loaf type cakes beneath and a basket of croissants. Nothing struck us cake wise ( looked quite dry) so we opted for the soup to warm us up. It was awkward ordering as there was very little space to manoeuvre and the two staff members seemed uninterested in serving us. In fact both of them barely left their gossiping spots in the kitchen beyond. Prices weren’t advertised so we just payed what was asked without question. We didn’t order drinks as we didn’t really fancy a hot drink with soup- (there was no evidence of cold drinks being available) and we weren’t encouraged to order any anyway. I actually felt as though we were an incomplete being in there. Soup arrived quickly and despite being a measly portion was very tasty. The bowl was barely half full and the accompanying bread was neither crusty nor a roll as was expected. A small slice of heavy doughy bread which was ok ish. These bowls were placed on a plastic tray on the counter by one of the unfriendly servers , and we were left to help ourselves to the tray. The panini my husband ordered arrived much later , over done ( ok burnt) without any salad garnish. It did though get served to our table . Whilst eating other customers left and someone cleared the tables quickly but extremely loudly and almost angrily... the tables and chairs were jostled and crockery banged around. We were the only customers left yet still got zero attention from the two ladies working there- again they were in the kitchen at the back talking to each other whilst ignoring us. Someone popped in for takeaway hot choc and didn’t exactly get a huge welcome. Had a little nosey around the shop which had some quite cute things in but very expensive... the cafe was tiny yet the gift shop area was so much bigger- maybe add a few tables in this area and concentrate on customer service rather than have such a big area selling cards etc??? We did enquire as to whether we could use the facilities and were told they only had a staff toilet but supposed we could use it! It DID have a sign saying staff only but really? Why not offer a bathroom for paying customers??? I did burn my hands on the scolding water in there too. All in all we weren’t expecting much more than a warm up from the shocking weather but a warm greeting and feeling as though we weren’t an inconvenience would have been nice too. Very disappointed

Stopped here briefly starving after a long drive!! It’s a tiny little cafe and gift shop with serves tea, coffee, cakes and sandwiches. Very good cappuccinos, delicious lemon drizzle cake, and if we'd had more room we'd definitely have wanted to try the raspberry and white chocolate scones - looked amazing. We sat outside - it was a warm day & we were going to be in the car most of the day anyway, and it was also a perfect spot for people watching. Though we didn't have time to take advantage of it, the shop also looked delightful. Altogether a lovely place, and deservedly popular.

The smell of brownies fresh from the oven hit us as we walked towards The Green Door this afternoon. It smelt divine and there was no question that we were going in! Our quest was really ice cream and we weren't disappointed: tablet; white chocolate and malteser; salted caramel and mint choc chip were all on offer (and we were welcome to try them) but cranachan proved particularly popular with my friends, and prompted discussion with the friendly owner about the nature of the dessert. We had been so well looked after that later on in the day we went back for cake and since it was just before 5 when the shop was closing, we ended up coming away laden with the aforementioned brownies, scones and some cranachen cake for our journey home. Well worth a visit for the food and excellent welcome.

We stopped with out two kids and grandpa for a quick drink and catch up before Grandpa took our eldest for a few days holiday fun. Drinks were ok, price was a bit high for the standard. The service was special. We felt very unwelcome and it was clear our kids existence was offensive. We ignored it, had our drinks and left. The parting and in fact only words spoken to us “well, if you will have kids”. Really had to see it to believe it!

From the outside this tearoom looks lovely - do not be fooled! On entering the shop/tearoom we went and chose one of the two table’s available (we were the only customers) and I went up and ordered two hot drinks - to which the person (female) went about preparing them and not in the usual careful way I’ve seen previously. During this time she made no attempt at conversation nor did she say to me that she’d bring the drinks over - I have to say I got bad vibes at this stage and felt very uncomfortable. She then put the drinks down quite forcibly and I paid her for them. I then sat down with my husband and then she started banging about whilst we were drinking our warm drinks. We were made to feel that we were an inconvenience, that we had interrupted her, it was about 1515 and shop not due to close til 1600 maybe she wanted to close early and was annoyed that we’d come in!! She banged the parts from the coffee machine several times, she noisily put cutlery away. Really it was comical if it wasn’t so totally rude. This lady has a terrible problem and should most certainly not own or work in a teamroom! Basil Fawlty would score more marks on customer skills than she ever would! Would not recommend going to this tearoom.

We visited this charming cafe/ souvenir shop, recently. The staff were efficient, friendly, polite, despitbeing usy. There are only a few tables in the cafe area, so you may have to wait toneseated. The adjoining souvenir shop sells the more upmarket gifts, including some interesting silverware, and dishes. The staff flit between the gift area and the cafe, so the lady who served us in the cafe also helped us in the gift shop, where she bubble wrapped the dishes which we purchased, and gift wrapped the silver necklace. A nice touch.

After strolling around Inveraray I decided to sit down for some cake and refreshments. I saw the cafe's board advertising cakes, ice creams and tea. I entered the quaint looking store, and walked over to the cafe section. I looked at the menus and approached the server who was busying herself and had neither greeted me or made eye contact. I asked if should order directly or sit down, she said I could order there. I placed my order and then she said there would be no table service, only take away as they were closing in one hour. The cafe consists of 4 tables, and there was no one else there. I cancelled the order as I really did not want to be walking out on a sunny day balancing a hot tea and cake.

What a shame that this place has such great potential but doesn't deliver. The interiors were claustrophobic and not conducive to an enjoyable sit down, the menu was very limited and overpriced for what you got (I had a toasted ham and cheese ciabatta - the cheese wasn't even melted properly when I got it and there was no salad or anything to cut through the fattiness of the cheddar used), and the service of the waitress was rather scattered and a little too casual. There are better places to frequent in Inveraray so give this one a miss.

Stopped in for lunch. The place was freezing, so much so we put our coats on. Grumpy service from a disinterested woman. No choice of soup, so veggies wanting a bowl were out of luck as it was cock-a-leekie or nothing. It was tasty though. Also ordered a cheese and ham tasted ciabatta. . It was barely toasted - cheese was not melted - and everyday value type ham. No salad came with it, although I was offered chutney which came in a little dish not in the ciabatta and therefore further cooled it down. Tea fro two allowed 1 smallish cup each and was the amount I'd expect for tea for one. And this came in at over a tenner. Not cheap by any stretch of the imagination when so many other places do a soup and sandwich deal. All in all I could not recommend this place. Poor value, poor service and too blooming cold to sit in comfort.

There are only 4 tables so it can be a bit of a squeeze but everyone shuffles up a bit to accommodate. I have to say I didn't find the staff too friendly, no welcome or interaction except to confirm our order, not the usual banter I would expect from a Scottish tourist location, we are usually a very friendly bunch. As has been stated previously, there really does seem to be a huge difference in the welcome you get when your accent is detected. We had a miserable 'cold' welcome, unlike the Scottish local chap that followed us who was waited on hand and foot. Where we barely got a word he got the full works viz family history and local gossip. The woman who took our order has been the stand out rude almost hostile person we have encountered in all the trips made to Scotland. The Scottish tourist board should take action! The scone was served with one butter and measly portion of jam. The coffee was good.

Visited as another review stated they had great gluten free choices, they have been recently taken over and now have no gluten free bread/cakes. Some of the ice cream is gluten free and occasionally some soup I was told by staff.

Had the ice cream and it was excellent. Choice of 8 flavors. I had Scottish Tablet and Toffee. I eat a lot of ice cream and gelato when traveling. This was some of the best that I have had. I believe the use a dairy on the Isle of Aran.

Consigliato.

We visited the tea room on a rainy Sunday afternoon for lunch. It was quiet and we got some soups and hot drinks served very fast. Nice good lunch and friendly staff. They allow dogs which was great!

We visited The Green Door on a cold and dreich day. Welcome in the serving area was warm and we went to sit next door to choose our food, the area is small but pretty and there was a heater to make sure we were warm. Lovely choices on the menu including choice of 3 homemade soups. Went through to order and nothing was too much hassle, including giving up her lemon which was earmarked for the lemon drizzle cake to ensure my mother in law got her hot water in lemon ! Food served with a smile and a bit of banter and it was DELICIOUS! Kids sandwich was fabulous and included in the price was a tub or cone of ice cream (it was huge!) Would definitely recommend a visit and will certainly make a point of going back next time we're passing. Thank You!

Visited around 3:30pm on Sat 7th Jan with my wife. Went in and sat in the room on the right. Although it has a loch view it has absolutely no warmth, atmosphere or charm about it. Waited 10 minutes to be served. Another couple gave up waiting and walked out. Then we realised that it says on the menu that you need to order (and pay in ADVANCE) at the counter which is in a completely different room on the other side of the entry hall. The waitress was a total misery. We think that the place was due to close at 4pm and that the last thing she wanted to see was customers. If this wasn't the case then then it is quite disturbing to think she is always so surly. If you are the owner of this business then I would strongly advise you to get a grip on this while you still have some trade to salvage.

Stopped for lunch on the way to Tarbert just before Christmas. Two different soups with soda bread were great. Sandwiches and coffee which followed were all great too as was the home baking. Unfortunately they were closed when I travelled back again otherwise I would have returned. Will be back again in 2017.

Chose this place for a quick lunch before visiting the Inverary Jail. Not having stopped in the town before, we didn't know which places were good and this seemed pretty, simple and had good loch views. This is fine if you are happy with the formula: good quality home made soup with lovely home made soda bread ( choice of three soups which was great); simple sandwiches and toasties; teas, coffees, home made cakes and nice ice creams to choose from. Don't expect more or different. Did us perfectly. We were told we had to pay up front, it was counter service but they bring your food. So we had to pay twice as I wanted to have coffee after lunch. No big deal. Service was fine. The rooms were very small and plain but fresh and the soups were very good. They could do more with the set up in this location but stick to what they offer and it's nice.

We called at these tea rooms as we stopped off in Inverary on a National Holidays tour of Scotland. We asked if they did toasted tea cakes and got a stern "NO". The waitress had the most miserable face you could imagine. We ordered coffee and cake and got no response from her whatsoever. A couple who were Scottish came in to get served and the difference in her manner changed completed. Friendly, smiling, joking and interacting, quite the opposite of the response we experienced. I wish we had have walked out but was a bit taken aback. She needs lessons in customer care especially with English customers.

We stopped here for brunch on our way to Kintyre. Been here before and liked it so hence the reason for our return. We weren't disappointed. Lovely food and plenty of it. Staff friendly and we found out that the owner originates from a town close to where we live! The cakes and scones are delicious. We will definitely return if we are in the area again. I would recommend a visit.

No atmosphere. We sat at a table which needed clearing, no problem. The waitress came over. How miserable can one person be. No "hello", no nothing, just a very sour looking person. She cleared the table without a word, a smile or anything. Made to feel unwelcome, so we got up and left. Why would I give my money to this establishment, which was unfriendly. Went somewhere else which was great. The staff here would do well to learn a bit about customer service before they cause the place to go bust!

Decided to try this place as the views were lovely. Unfortunately one of our party accepted an order we thought must be ours - same item. On finding we were mistaken the woman with the brown hair was less than pleasant. After her less than gracious interaction with us we could hear her continually sounding off about it in the next room - so much so that one of the other diners commented 'she's not letting this go is she?' We decided to leave as we felt very uncomfortable. Said not to process our order as we were leaving. She did say 'well do you want your money back or what? Take it she must be the owner as I see there have been previous comments about this person, can't imagine tolerating a staff member with this training need if not. What we saw of the food was acceptable but not as good as we subsequently got elsewhere.

Go here 2/3 times a year when at loch Lomond. Checked yesterday to make sure it was still open. First two reviews were bad. However decided to go today. When we went in was met by a happy bubley waitress. She informed us the steak pie was off at present as delivery was late but would be already in an hour. I am a fussy eater but went for a dressed fish which was delicious. Also family members had battered fish another had a chicken burger and the last member had Chinese chicken curry. Everyone enjoyed their meal and praised the chef. I had said to waitress that they used to do bangers and mash that I loved. She said they didn't do it anymore but I could have kids meal of susage and chips. Nothing was any bother to her. Well done great waitress

Such a beautiful location with lovely staff but unfortunately the worst meal ever. If a chef cannot make macaroni then it's a big no from us. Pasta and water would have been more apt. Feel sorry for the waitresses working there having to serve such bland inedible food. We are not complainers but felt the need to. The waitresses were so lovely and engaging but even they could not make up for the inedible food. Will definitely not return

Ignored by staff. Was interested in picking my own assortment, but ended up with pre bagged. Small pieces, but perhaps that is better. Larger would be too much. No where near the Belgium quality. Nice local shop, so happy to support. Not sure if it's worth returning. Supermarket sweets are better.

We just wanted a light lunch before the ferry journey. We ordered BBQ chicken wraps with salad. What we got was 2 very small curried chicken wraps with a garnish not a salad. Inedible for me as I don't eat curry, my partner ate both which was equivalent to a normal pub lunch wrap. At over £30.00 a total rip off. They have a monopoly as there is nowhere else to eat nearby.
