Quite shocked when I ordered a G and T and was poured some tonic and when I went to take the rest of the small bottle of fever tree to top up later, member of the bar staff brusquely said it wasn’t included with my drink and they charge extra!! Never had this happen in any bar ever. When I order a G and T I would expect to receive the full bottle of tonic, to adjust my drink to taste. Also curious as to what they use the rest of the tonic for before it goes flat… someone else’s drink?! So stingey… disappointed in this otherwise lovely pub.

Last minute Saturday night booking. So glad we found this spot. Relatively quiet for a weekend but still with atmosphere. Instantly welcoming and friendly staff, great service. All food we had was of an excellent quality. While not the most extensive menu it seemed to mean that everything was done really well. Don't be fooled by bar snacks; they also make substantial starters. Recommend the rarebit. And though had to Google what it was, the kohlrabi salad was a revelation. Only one beer on tap at the time we visited but despite this can only recommend.

Booked online at The Green for my teams Christmas lunch, was able to book online and request which festive menu you would like- before confirmation it said that somebody would give you a call. no call was given so in the morning we rang up to ask about our reservation, they said they had it there and would call us back in a few minutes. After a couple of hours, and still no call, we rang again to confirm the booking - when asking about the menu we had requested when booking online we were told that this menu had to be booked 3 days prior, on their website there is also a walk-in menu advertised so when asking about that it was confirmed we could have the walk in menu. We called one more time to ask about a vegetarian on the team, as there was no vegetarian option for the walk in menu and was informed they would have to have something off the normal menu as the booking is needed to be pre booked 2 days before, so that was understood. Once we arrived at our booked table we were then told that the walk in menu is only available on Christmas day- this lead to a lot of confusion as we had discussed the walk in menu on the phone. We are also confused as to how we have been able to pre book a table for the next day and request a festive menu when you apparently need 2-3 days ahead to order.

I had never visited this pub before but then I heard that the kitchen was being taken over by the guys behind the Culpeper on Commercial Road in East London. I was intrigued and found myself wanted a Sunday Roast but wanted to try somewhere new.I was slightly nervous as no one likes a bad roast and having had roast dinners all over London I can confidently say that this was one of the best. There was a choice between Chicken or Beef Wellington, the obvious choice for me was the Wellington and it was simply incredible!!!! What I like about this place is that they serve all the vegetables, roast potatoes and gravy all on their own and the wellington was on a separate plate. Everyone likes their Sunday roast there own way and sometimes having it all piled high on a plate isn't great but this way you could choose where the gravy went, which vegtables you would have and basically create your own perfect roast. The roasted cabbage was incredible, the roasties really crispy and fluffy on the inside and the wellington was just DELICIOUS!! We washed it down with some really yummy red wine which was recommended by one of the bar staff, which we really appreciated. We were so full but had to try the desert , we heard the panda cotta with fresh cookies and hot chocolate sauce was amazing and it was. The cookes were freshly cooked and in fact, there was nothing about the meal which was not fresh and cooked and from scratch. This is a small and very cute pub with really lovely and friendly staff, if you are a little picky about your roasts and you appreciate freshly cooked, amazing produce then you will love this place and do not hesitate in making a booking. We will be going back!!!

The Green has recently been taken over by the team behind Culpeper in Commercial Street E1. Apparently the plan is to take over the roof space for a cocktail bar in which case they've probably chosen the wrong time of year to open this. Meanwhile a kitchen serves food from a short menu chalked upon a blackboard next to the downstairs bar in this Victorian boozer. There are no more than four or so starters, mains and desserts, but, judging by my lunch today, from what I ate as well as the comments from other diners I overheard, everything is cooked to perfection. Passing over the likes of devilled crab on toast or pork croquettes for starters, I opted straightaway for a main course entitled Jacob's Ladder (no, not an opera by Schoenberg, but beef short rib) accompanied by silky smooth mashed potato, cabbage and half a pickled walnut. Sadly rice pudding with Armagnac prunes was not available, but a pear and almond tart with creme fraiche served just as well to round off an excellent meal with a double espresso. A range of guest ales are available on draught. Service was polite and professional throughout.

Really disappointed in the lunch we had hereFood was at least served on time – but the cheeseburger was distinctly average. Interior of the pub was icy cold, and got worse every time the door opened. Music got cranked up to an unprecedented volume for some reason (even though it was a lunchtime), and wasn’t turned down, even though we asked. We were then essentially forced to move to a tiny 2 person table (there were 4 of us), which was right in front of the door, meaning either our chairs or table were knocked every time someone needed to leave. When the bill came, we discovered they had tried to overcharge my friend for a glass of lemonade. Service was also devoid of any warmth or emotion. Definitely wouldn’t return here, couldn’t even stand up straight to take a piss! Much better pubs in the area.

I use to go to The Green often and recommend them to everyone. Went last Thursday - awesome burgers and thin parsley fries! Use to say they were essentially the best!Walked in today(4 days later) to a new menu and what seemed to be new chef and management.Thin Parcely fries are now big dry potato 'wedges'. The meat in the burger was so overcooked and awfully dry(Not sure if they changed suppliers too?). Was so unimpressed and really upset - The new change is not working guys! Sort it out please!

I don't normally review pubs but having seen some of the negative comments on here I thought I'd share my thoughts. It's a decent London pub, not touristy with plenty of atmosphere. The function room upstairs was excellent, they let you plug your ipod in and the bar snacks were actually superb. Proper scotch eggs, decent chips, you couldnt really ask for any better. no real ale upstairs but that was explained and you can always get them from the main bar. The toilets aren't that great but it;s in an old building in the basement, you kind of expect it. Pubs like this need our support before they get bought by nicholsons and turned into tourist traps.

This is what their website says about the food on offer "Our daily menu serves freshly prepared pub classics, amazing sandwiches and super cheese burgers. Salting our own beef, pulling our own pork, baking breads and …we make as much as possible in-house and we use the best ingredients from the best local suppliers."Rubbish...Pulled pork was average at best and pretty much the only other things on the lunch menu were burgers (beef. chicken, falafel) and overpriced salads. We were there in a downpour so stayed anyway...then after the meal when we asked for tea, we were told to our amazement that they only offered filter coffee...Don't go here for food - at lunchtime at least...

A clean little pub with a good sized road area for drinking. It's pretty obvious that summer work days in Farringdon are going to bring the crowds, but this place never has enough staff to cater for it, leaving a 4-5 thick line to the bar.

The blond man behind the bar last night was incredibly unfriendly and just seemed to be in a massive sulk about something. He could barely bring himself to answer one question about wine. He looked like he was doing us a massive favour by just being there. I didn't want to hang around for such rubbish service so left after a short stay waiting on a friend. Well done The Green, you've got a corker there.

I didn't actually eat here, but I wanted to write how impressed I've been at the friendliness and professionalism of the staff when I inquired about booking their private venue for a party. The staff were welcoming, flexible, accommodating, they had creative ideas to address my needs, and seemed really keen to ensure that I would be able to have the event that I wanted.Having come into contact with some really incapable or unfriendly people in the industry (on searching for the ideal venue for my event) I would recommend this pub for private hire on that basis alone.

My partner and I regularly visit the Green for Sunday lunch and have never found the service to be less than great and the food never less than very good. I've also been to the green on several occasions over years and always enjoyed it.I'm really surprised to read some if the negative reviews on here because as a regular and a local it's completely contrary to my experience (and I've been going there for years)

Attended this function yesterday evening. On arrival at the venue, the bar staff did not have a clue that this function was taking place, advising me that the only function taking place was a 'works do'!!! Fortunately, I recognised a few familiar faces and ascertained that the Devonshire Corporate Finance networking event was taking place! The staff in the upstairs bar provided a whole new experience: courteous, friendly and eager to help - a real contrast to my previous encounter. The food provided was good and there was a great atmosphere.Would certainly return for another event.

Firstly, apologies to Charles and his team at The Green as this review is three months late (sorry!). I feel even more obliged to write it now, reading the negative review below. I regret that you had a bad experience at the pub but mine was the exact opposite....Working in the area, I go into the pub from time to time for lunch (delicious) and evening drinks. Loads of good beers on tap. Great spot. Can't fault.I've organised two events here in their private room upstairs - one an internal work lunch with quiz (great fun) and most recently a client event in March which was a huge success. Highlights:- A wonderful space with tables, chairs, comfy sofas and it's own bar- Bright and airy with a great view- Candlelit in the evenings to add to the atmosphere- Worked with Charles to organise a buffet dinner which was absolutely delicious from healthy salads to tasty quiches and roast beef. I especially liked the pumpkin and mint cous cous. We had apple crumble and a generous cheese board for afters. Perfect!- Charles was really helpful in the lead up and his bar staff friendly and accommodating on the evening- I organised beer tasting for the event with a local expert. The Green were very supportive of this, provided all the glasses etc we required.- Our guests had a fantastic evening. In conclusion, I love The Green, will continue to go there for after work drinks and look forward to the opportunity to work with them again soon. Thanks guys!

Whilst staying near Shepherds Bush we went for a meal at The Green, quite a busy pub but the staff are extremely friendly and the food was very good (we had fish and chips). Altogether a good experiance. P.S. The wine was good value too.

Quite simply, do not ever book the function room here. We booked it for our charity pub quiz, paying £100 deposit and agreeing a £500 minimum spend in return for a function room with it's own bar. Having messed us around with dates, they chose not to open the upstairs bar on the night so in effect we were paying to sit in a drafty room upstairs. Our punters bought a lot of food and drink in the downstairs bar, raising the bar's profits at no extra cost to them. The entire pub did not take more than £500 so they refused the return of our deposit. So instead the £90 we raised for Macmillan Cancer Support went in the landlord's pocket and we made a further loss of £10 from the rest of the money we've so far raised for the charity. If you want a venue to renegade on dates, fail to meet their obligations on staffing and then not offer compensation / refund then this is the place for you.

we were walking by and decided to drop in on speck. The main restaurant upstairs was not open so we sat in the cosy bar area. The menu comprised one starter of Whitebait - delicious, main course was a choice of four roast meats and a vegetarian dish. My roast pork was tasty and plentiful as was my partners roast beef. Unfortunately we neither had time nor room for dessert. At a cost of £8 for the starter to share and approx £14 for the mains we found it to be good value and would definitely recommend the Green to anyone wanting a hearty meal in warm light and pleasant surroundings

I had thought about booking this 'gastro pub' as a christmas lunch venue for some work colleagues. Thank god I had the sense to check it out first! I took a couple of friends with me and we headed off for lunch. The ground floor look alright and there were a few table and a good smell of food. We headed upstairs to the dining room and I was nearly bowled over the pungent smell of urine from the loos! The dining room was awful - no table clothes, no decoration and nothing in the room at all that would suggest it was a good (and healthy) place to eat. It looked as though it had been abandoned for months. We practically ran down the stairs in horror only to be followed by the delightful aroma from the loo (which incidently is right next to the food serving hatch)! I can't believe they serve food in there!

There is nothing gastro about this pub, the beer was served in warm glasses, we were served wrong dishes (lamb instead of pork, halibut instead of sole) an even these were not good. We used to go there once a month, but I think it was our last visit.

Hvaig booked a table of four, the staff seemed surprised when we arrived. After some confusion we were shown to our seats upstairs and were promptly ignored by the staff. 5 minutes after seating we were told it would be better if we went downstairs to the bar area as there was a party of 25 people expected in the same room as our table had been booked. The bar was empty but we had to wait to give our orders. The food was good but a meal of two mains and a bottle of wine came to £55 which I consider to be quite expensive. The staff seems more preoccupied with adjusting the volume of the music, ranging from deafening to barely audible, or talking amoungt themselves.Would not go back.

We had heard a lot of good things about The Green via google reviews. We were due to eat there as a large party, but when we arrived the waitress appeared to have not booked us in. We were given some complementary prosecco whilst we waited for a table to become available, only for the service to continue in a similarly poor fashion. Our food was very well coooked overall, but it took over three hours for our three courses to be served and orders came out in dribs and drabs. I was shocked at the apparent lack of organisation between the kitchen and waiter, as our friend who is lactose intolerant was told the pumpkin pie she ordered was dairy free, only to then get served a fish pie which wasn't on the menu and nor was it suitable for her intolerance. The dishes were also poor value in my opinion as nothing comes with any sides or salad. Literally just a piece of fish!!!!The good points were the great wine list and friendly manager who did go out of his way to try and sort things out for us. I'm afraid that the lack of quality service and meals that were overpriced is the main reason I would steer well clear of The Green in the future though. Overall, a big disappointment as the atmosphere was lovely.

As there is only 1 bad review I felt I had to defend the Green! We ate here for a quick meal before heading next door to Dans Le Noir and were pleasantly surprised. The Thursday night crowd were out in force so the Pub downstairs was loud and busy. The cosy restaurant upstairs has a chilled atmosphere with fairy lights and spaced out tables so you're not too close to other diners. Good service, our waitress was really sweet and knew the menu and selection of Beers well, I ordered the Beef with herby Risotto which seemed like an odd combination but was beautifully cooked and great flavours with Horseradish. My OH had the Pork with Mustard Mash, it was tastily presented although not huge. I would of stayed longer for dessert if we'd had time and would go back.

The Green is the perfect example of the nonsense now called the Gastropub. I expect a pub meal to be substantial and if they want to throw gastro in then do a twist on traditional fare. The menu was uninspiring but the portions were worse. This mediocity was only surpassed by the poor quality of the food. My roasted bavette with bone marrow and snails was tough with the snails like little pieces of rubber, a beetroot salad came with beetroot and no salad and the Sea bream, spiced peppers, chorizo and cracked wheat was served up as a small piece of fish on Tesco's cous cous. The chips however were perfect and McCains finest. The waitress was excellent, very helpful and chatty - it,s a shame that this was supported by the kitchen. Avoid at all costs.

This excellent gastro-pub serves the single most delicious foodstuff in the known universe – home made whisky cheesecake. Unfortunately, I sampled this divine dessert during an ‘office lunch’, and my sliding under the table in ecstasy didn't go down well with the boss. The staff were good to us, despite our disorganisation, turning up almost an hour late and the fact that almost every one of our work party of 25 had forgotten what we had pre-ordered. The manager helped us patiently as we chose...

This morning I bought a loaf of white sourdough bread. Came back home for lunch to discover that the loaf is at least 3 days old.(Sourdough has a shelf life of 5 to 7 days). Came back to the shop after one hour to bring them back the old loaf and they insisted (rudely) that was freshly baked this morning. After 5 minute of discussion trying to explain that the bread is clearly old (the crust is softer than the inside!) the lady that served my said (but, at least, is the taste good?), ?!?!? I didn't came back to ask my money back (which considering the price of the loaf 6£ would have been good!) but after waiting the line in the cold to buy a 6£ loaf, go home and find out that is not fresh, go back to complain in the cold, the least you can expect is a bit of understanding! RUDE STAFF, PRODUCT NOT FRESH, you can find better fresh bread anywhere else, avoid!

Ridiculously bad. I have lived nearby for a while and was very much looking forward to going and did just that tonight... Oh my. Pretentious environment for pretentious, badly cooked, overpriced food. Who can't cook potatoes, FFS. 12 quid for 3 slices of tomato in yoghurt, FFS. Go to one of the Turkish places on Green Lanes instead. Half the price, twice the humanity, and actually tastes good. P.s. the wine was awful too.
