The Great Glen - JD Wetherspoon in Highland

We enjoyed coffee and eggs and toast. The location is at a busy old town block and main road next to the river. Very clean street where the delivery trucks are clean also.

The weather was cold and miserable but i did not expect my mix grill to be. Staff dont want to know. “Its not their fault, they only work there”. Abysmal!

It’s a Wetherspoon, it’s the same as every Wetherspoon. Can’t go wrong. Nice view.

Honestly the worst meal I have ever had the first one went back as was burnt and crispy round the edges, The second wasn't much better either.

The atmosphere is incredible open spacious easy to get around. The service was great and the people are very friendly. The food for me was just great couldn’t ask for anything better and will fix it anyway you want can’t go wrong eating here that includes dinner and breakfast.

Great service, the bartender took his time to explain all the beers that were available. Food was bad. A party of 7 ordered a variety but none were good. Merely ate it because we were starving and all the nearby restaurants were closed.

It's a Weatherspoons so you know what you are going to get. Serves food till late, which helped us a lot after car broke down. Friendly staff.

Absolutely shocking service. We placed our order and they brought everything out except our pizzas which they said would be out once the oven was working. They then came and said we could have anything else as an alternative as they unfortunately couldn’t make the pizzas. By this point our kids had finished their food. We chose alternatives and then 10 minutes later they came back to say we would need to pay the difference in what we ordered. Needless to say we didn’t and asked for a refund of what we didn’t get. Shocking service especially as the first waitress told us we could order anything as an alternative.

They had some really nice food and drinks of course, you are able to take a seat and order via the internet site which was available by scanning a QR code there. They were fast at prepping everything and didn't disappoint. The personnel were very nice and easy to talk to throughout our entire stay. The only thing I had to complain about was the general volume there. Even for a pub it was rather noisy. All in all, still worth it.

Cheap beer, good atmosphere and decent well priced food.

OK food and drinks at reasonable prices, plenty of seating, clean toilets and a smile from the staff. No wonder it's popular.

The usual pub fare and choice of drinks. A bit more expensive than other Wetherspoon's I have visited, but Fort William is in the hearth of a very touristic area, so prices are higher.

Both myself and my brother ordered The Scottish Breakfast. Absolutely disgusting. Never seen anything like it.

This place has a nice ambience and good vegetarian options too. The place offers food and drinks at reasonable prices. We tried vegetarian pizza and grilled halloumi wrap which we liked very much but the curry option was ok but not so good. We had the Vegan breakfast in the morning which was good. So overall it was a good experience.

Very helpful friendly staff, food was as good as it gets,hot,and well presented. Some people want 5 star star dining for 1 star prices but can't please everyone!! I my opinion I have no complaints. Well done spoons fort William, thanks

Just had coffee/hot chocolate so all good. Did notice prices slightly higher than other 'spoons, but that's due to the area!

Great pub at the end of the high street. Loads of seating, inside and out. Classic Spoons fare. Decent prices, good customers, great staff. Nice window seat view of the Loch and lovely spot for people watching as the shoppers busy themselves along the high street. Spoons sits amongst loads of other cars within a very short walking distance.

Frankly disappointed please don't take the Alfredo legs the portion is so small for 15€ per plate that it's a scam I finished it in 2 minutes and the waitress who gives you flirtatious looks is very annoying I know I'm a charming young Frenchman but respect when we eat

Really nice weather spoons. Turned up starving at 9.00pm at night! Still doing food, which was very welcoming after a day of exploring. Clean and friendly staff.

I enjoyed this Wetherspoons , they had nice ales like the Belhaven shilling, the staff were friendly and trying their best to serve the busy pub, 🍻, good vibes here and great place to eat after finishing the west highland way!

Good food and great value for money

This place was a disappointment 😞 The menu is very large, which is always a concern for me. How does a chef/cook prepare so many different items? Well, in this case I am pretty sure the food comes pre-made and all they have to do is heat it up. You seat yourself and order your drinks and food at the bar. Basically, it's an upscale McDonalds.

Excellent range of beers and very reasonable prices. Visited for Steak and Curry Nights this week, great food, great value!!

What a lovely Wetherspoons this is in Fort William Scotland.

We stumbled over this place when looking for something to eat on a Sunday evening. Almost all other places had been full and we needed a table for 4. A mixture of self-service and relatively small tables allowed much lower prices than every other place we had been before in our stay. Meals had been fine, drinks at least 20% lower than in other places. The service personal was fast and the place clean. So nothing to mourn, when you don't have high-level expectations.

Didn't have all the advertised meals otherwise all was fine.

The app suggested a 20 minute wait, which didn't describe the 35 minute wait we had. When asking where our food was, we were simply told to wait - no apology. Then when the food did arrive, it had been sat under the hot light for well over 15 minutes - it was stale, dried out, simply inedible. We left rather than asking for something new simply because we would rather not wait another eternity. Absolutely would not recommend it for food.

Had breakfast here and it was 'tasteless' ...even the haggis had no flavour and toast was more like crispbread ... Very disappointing

The service was poor, food was rubbish, mixgrill was cold, rump steak was 80% fat, sausage was very rubbery. my wife asked about some sauce, the waiter said you will have to go and get it off another table ourselves. My wife's food was cold aswll. Will never go back to a weatherspoons again, poor quality and service. They cleaner removed plates of table, took a dirty cloth out off his pocket brushed the crumbs on the floor then wiped the table with no antibacterial cleaner.

excellent venue for food and drink , I tried a Korean dish from the specials menu which was delicious , my wife chose the scampi that she thoroughly enjoyed .

Just don't eat here. It's not worth the money you spend. Drinks are ok, because Pepsitaste stays Pepsitaste.

Breakfast opinion. Without further ado, and if you don't like having tourists, don't put breakfasts next to a hotel. Very improvable treatment.

We ordered two bowls of the same ramen dish, but were surprised by how drastically different they were. One bowl had an overpowering fish sauce taste and smell that dominated the entire dish, while the other bowl was nearly flavorless and bland. The inconsistency in flavor was disappointing, and it felt like we were served two completely different dishes.

Called in for lunch whilst in Fort William had chips ham and eggs it was very nice.

The staff were overwhelmed. The hamburger and portion of chips was small, like for a child, but expensive. They forgot a side of vegetables. I'd suggest avoiding this place unless you're desperate.

Good for a cheap drink but not really worth eating there. Soggy chips and onion rings and over cooked, dried out meat in my large mixed grill. Husband's meal equally nothing special. It filled a hole but we wouldn't eat there again!

I do not normally comment as I believe that everyone has bad days, even restaurants….but this experience merits a review… So originally we planned on going to another restaurant further down the road, but it started raining heavily and our baby would have ended up soaking wet in the buggy by the time we arrived so we decided to enter the first restaurant which happened to be The Great Glen - JD Wetherspoon. We waited for a few minutes but nobody greeted us. My wife stopped a waitress to request a table for two adults and a child, only to be told to find one ourselves….STRIKE 1 We found a table that was dirty and sat there. Approximately 15 minutes passed with several waiters passing by but none of them bothered to clean the table. We then asked two different waiters to clear and clean the table but their reply was that they were very busy….fortunately a while later the people sitting next to us left so we put whatever was on our table onto that table and cleaned our table with baby wipes….STRIKE 2 The menu looked vast and interesting so we planned on ordering two dishes that weren’t very common in other restaurants. When we went by the bar to order (because it is self service), we were given a list of items that weren’t being served. Basically all one could order are burgers, pizzas and a few other items….STRIKE 3 Whilst waiting for the table to be cleaned (may I reiterate that we ended up cleaning it ourselves), we noticed two tables being served drinks, so naturally we assumed that drinks were served by the waiters. When we ordered the drinks by the bar, the barmaid took the order and payment, and went on to serve other customers. Some time later, a waitress approached our table with our drinks and told us off because according to her, the barmaid told us to wait for our drinks, which was false….STRIKE 4 After all this, my wife went to have a look at the shop opposite this restaurant before the food arrived. All of a sudden, our baby started crying just like what every baby does. One of the waiters promptly came up to me and said, “so you know, children are not allowed in here after 2200hrs”. I looked at my watch and it was still 2045hrs…..seriously???? You were “too busy” to clean our tables but you found time to say this just because the baby started crying????….STRIKE 5 All in all this was my worst experience in a restaurant so far! Most of the staff were rude and have no idea about how to treat customers. With the rudest staff ever and a terrible service, I strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant and in the future, I would much rather sleep hungry than set foot in this place again!

Probably the restaurant with the worst customer service I have ever been to. We order at 9:15 p.m. and after waiting 45 minutes, they tell us that they can't serve us the food because the children can't be there after 10 p.m., and they invite us to go out... Awful.

One of the worst places I have visited in Scotland. I do not recommend. The food is terrible, the price/quality ratio is zero. Crowded, people on top of people. Poor selection of dishes. Plus a nice view from the window on the way to the toilet 😂 However, I wouldn't come back here again.

Avoid this place like the plague. Came in for breakfast and, after 30 minutes, asked where our food was, only to be told they were short staffed, and the wait would be at least 45 minutes! So why not tell us up front? This is just unacceptable! When the breakfast muffin arrived, the egg was cold, and the bacon cremated! It's one of the worst meal experiences I've ever suffered. Do yourself a favour and just don't go there .

Rather depressing plates of food, that all seem to be cooked from frozen in lots of oil. Chips were not even all fully cooked. No lettuce/tomatos or any toppings in the burgers (sign at the bar to say not everything is available on the menu but staff didn't say what wouldn't be on the plate). No service to speak of; you have to order at the bar; but the staff leave you sitting there without saying anything, no hello/welcome either. It's ok if you are starving but I wouldn't' go back, better off getting takeaway sandwiches from tescos.

Very bad experience in this restaurant. The worst of our trip to Scotland. We ordered menus with supposedly drinks included. When we collect our drinks, we are told that it will only be water. Nice scam. The food is tasteless and the portions are minimal. Go your way

Quite disappointing restaurant. The food is not of very good quality, we got it for £40, which is too expensive for the quality. We ordered three menus, and when I came back to order the drinks (included in the menu), the waiter refused to give them to us, under the pretext that once the menu is paid, we cannot have our drinks. This restaurant seems to be above all a tourist trap, to be avoided...

Don't know what's happened to this place it used to be good. Was in today waited a while for food despite it not being it's busiest. Luke warm chicken and chips. Partners burger was stone cold and the burger looked tiny £39 down the drain. His burger was taken and replaced but very disappointed by the experience. I didn't complain about my or my neices luke warm chicken because she was starving. But certainly will not be back. Shocking food.

Busy - as is all of Fort William at this time of year. Service was friendly and fast enough, but found the menu to be lacking compared to other Wetherspoons in the UK. Was also the most expensive of them all - not sure if it is still so, but expect to pay more than usual.

The food was in very small quantities for very average dishes and the toilets were out of order. I only recommend that in the event of a digestive problem their kitchen will completely empty you with their disgusting dishes.

Was at the Fortwilliam Wetherspoons today 23//07/24 , we went in for dinner around 2pm , was pretty busy the wife went up to order only to be told of a long list of what they didnt have , I eventually opted for fish and chips and the wife had Buttermilk chicken gourmet burger , well it was anything but gourmet , the burger was overcooked brick hard round the edges and the chicken was really tough , I asked for fish and chips which I got but a small portion when I ordered a normal portion , was told they were running out of fish and were actually cutting it in half and giving people small portions but we were not told that at time of ordering , will be the last time we are in there and it would be the last place in Fort William I would recommend, only reason for going in the first place was that everywhere else was busy and we couldnt get a seat , Do yourself a favour and give this place a miss

Delicious breakfast, like in all Wetherspoons, coffee (refill) however 1.56 pounds. Other spoons in Scotland only charge £1.06.

Wonderful place, was our absolute saving grace on our hiking trip. Just knowing it'll be open, we can rest and enjoy some nice warm pub food was fantastic when, for some reason, so many other places including our hotel didn't serve any food that week. Bar staff are wonderful and super friendly. Oh and free refills on hot drinks! ❤️

The food was appalling even when compared to other Wetherspoon. The drinks are fine and nothing bad to be said about it. It's cheap and cheerful.

Great value for money. Kinda serve service place where you need to find your own table and order your food online. The food and drinks (beers at least) are brought to you. I understand this is a branch of a chain of pubs in UK. To a tourist who has not been following UK news, it is interesting to find a publication on the table about mistruths against the company.

Went in for a drink and was told at the entrance that cash payments only. No issues with that as I had some cash in hand luckily enough. Did have food on this occasion so can't comment that's why no stars. Ordered a pint of Guinness, very nice chilled Guinness which was properly poured. Cheers! 👌

This place saved us for late dinner! The food is great, they have a vast menu and the prices are very reasonable. Beer selection is vast and at cheap prices. The only thing is that you have to place your order at the bar, as the restaurant is very busy. We took a small havgis pizza, halloumi fries, chicken wings and fish and chips.

After waiting for 30 mins the food was below average. We ordered a couple of Katsu curries and rice along with ramen noodles, manglorean curry, chicken wings & samosas. For Katsu curries the quantity was very less & we almost had dry rice. The rice was not sticky, which is what is usually served with Katsu curry. Ramen noodles were just noodles & hot water. Absolutely tasteless. Manglorean curry & samosas were alright. We had also ordered chicken wings. The only dish that didn't disappoint.

Prices for the food were okay for the region. Service overwhelmed.

A nice big bar and eating area good food

By far, the worst burger I have ever had. Photo attached for reference. Seemed like a frozen burger out of a packet from a supermarket. There is no table service later in the night, so we ordered at the bar. We asked for board games from an employee at the bar who never got back to us. Save your money and find another place if you can!

Situated top of high street in Fort William. We went on a busy Saturday lunchtime, service quick and professional and food came about 20mins after ordering, it was hot and tasty and good value 😋

We entered when the whetherspoon was crowded and there was no one of the staff available. So to not disturb we just sat where we could and as we were 5, we had to move a table. 2 ladies who wanted to seat at this very table, came to us in a not nice mood and didn't let us anytime to offer them the table back. They were whispering in english even if we were clearly french. And they went to tell all about it to other people, literrally pointing fingers at us!!! instead of dealing with us and trying to talk. A very strange and rude behaviour ! And the worst is someone from the staff , who didn't know what happened was told something by these ladies and came very angry at us. Again, without caring to help us whens she understood we were strangers. Or caring to ask our side of the 'story'. We maybe shouldn't have moved the table, but we didn't know it was not authorized and we had no chance to apologize or reparing our fault. If they dont like tourists or dont' have any patience, then dont' work in touristy places !

Bar was okay. Food was sub standard. Better avoided. Much better options available nearby.
