The Great British Takeaway At Tiverton in Mid Devon

My go to place, pun intended, for fish n chips when in the Tiverton area. Lunchtime specials of cod n chips, 2 jumbo sausage n chips or 6 cod bites n chips all at £7 are an absolute bargain. The sausages are huge, the 6 cod bites are merely a huge piece of cod, cut into 6 pieces, then battered and fried. The chips here are always superb, crispy on the outside, light n fluffy on the inside. On this visit I had the 6 cod bites n chips, it was piping hot as cooked as I waited, so in less than 10 mins I was served with the best lunches from a takeaway in not just Mid Devon, but far reaching. I took it back to the office, it was still hot as in a box, and well wrapped. Absolutely delicious, and great value for money. I have also dined here as well as used the takeaway, and the quality of food and service are always top notch. A great choice, and reasonably priced, so great value for money.

Popped in for a quick lunch takeaway. Instantly served and ordered cod and chips. Fish was lovely but chips were mediocre.

Well. cod tasted lovely and looked massive but was very thin, so mainly batter, which was a shame. Seemed to be a lot of staff doing nothing at the lunchtime I was there. The place is very clean but dated . Especially the dining area. I know it was lunchtime but seemed to lack a bit of atmosphere . Owners should check out Chez Fred's in Westbourne Bournemouth where we usually. This is how it's done. They also do meal deal cod chips crusty bread wine beer or any drink. As many chips as you can eat for a similar price. Fish always cooked to order too. I'd go back as the intention is there and the food was good. But needs a bit more in this day and age.

Decent Chippy. Service was good and good arrived quickly and was piping hot. Wouldn't say the batter on the fish was anything to shout about but largely a decent takeaway. Will be returning and would recommend 👌

Don't do a small fish n chips had the regular it's massive more like a large the chips are yummy but the fish is a bit to greasy for my liking . Quick service could be a bit friendlier

On a first visit to Tiverton, had a late lunch of cod, chips and baked beans which was fresh cooked and delicious. Tartare sauce and a small salad accompanied the meal. A hot cappuccino finished the meal off well . Very impressed with the service and cleanliness of the restaurant and toilets. Would recommend especially as also great value.

Very nice food, always fresh & not and never really have to wait the burgers are properly my favourite and the best in Tiverton, my son also really likes the chicken burgers… deffo recommend and can feed a family of 4 very well for around £30 which’s good in this day & age

Purchased a large fish last night (12/08/23 which was wrapped straight away and not freshly cooked because when opened it was very dry and the batter was soft! Recently (2024) I've asked for the fish to be cooked fresh, now it's spot on and also great friendly service 👍 Chap with the goatie beard 😠

Certainly the best Fish & Chip shop in this area for miles. Although I'm not local, I've eaten in the restaurant & had a takeaway too. The food is excellent quality and the staff are superb. Always try to visit at least once if I'm in the area.

One of the best chippys I have ever had! The fish was cooked perfectly, not greasy at all, the batter was beautiful. The chips were lovely. My son thoroughly enjoyed his Fish Cake and my partner enjoyed the battered sausages. My only two small criticisms is that we asked for baked beans, but got mushy peas instead and unfortunately non of us eat those and the large chips were quite a small portion. However, it would not stop us from coming again when we have our next holiday down in Devon! Thank you for a delicious takeaway :)

A decent find, I stopped off here last Saturday for a quick lunch and its well priced - less than £4 for a large portion of chips, they were piping hot and cooked quickly. You can even park outside for free for a short while as well!

Prabably the best fish n chip restaurant in Devon, certainly the best in Mid Devon. The batter is always so light and crisp, never heavy and greasy. The chips are always cooked to perfection whether you dine in or takeaway. Great value for money. Especially the lunchtime specials at £8.00 for fish, or jumbo sausages or cod bites and chips. Table service is quick, efficient, and friendly, always a good size portion, and the curry sauce here is to die for.

Absolutely amazing food, but counter staff attitude was less than acceptable only one individual with the goaty beard behaviour is wrong and makes me as a woman feel uncomfortable to say the least

Great calm atmosphere, lovely dedicated staff, and the food was absolutely amazing! By far the best steak I have had in Tiverton! Lovely crunchy fresh salad and nice golden chips! Would definitely recommend and will most definitely be eating here again!

One of the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. My husband often stops for a takeaway but one lunchtime we sat and ate in the restaurant. The sevice was friendly and fast. Great value for money as we had the Pensioners cod and chips with peas. Nice table by the window to watch the world go by. I didn't photograph the meal - I ate it! All gone. Delicious 😋

Fish slightly over cooked and quite greasy

We had a great meal with friends and our friends go regular to the place I wanted to get them a voucher for a birthday present. But they weren’t very helpful they couldn’t be bothered really. I was going to get a voucher for £40 but I live in Newcastle, they said I’d have to pick the voucher up. I explained where I live all I wanted them to do was send the voucher to put in with the card. Would have taken 10/15 max but it was to much trouble. And they say hospitality is struggling obviously not this place. Still can’t believe it. Crazy people

Absolutely delicious, no fault found at all. lovely clean shop, staff were so efficient,well organised.Its a popular chippy so the wait in line was to to door but that didn't matter because the wait wasn't long and the staff were very friendly indeed. It was a Friday night so expected it to be busy but as mentioned that didn't deter us. We ordered Fish,chips and mushy peas and there were delicious 😋 well done all you should be very proud. Would highly recommend a visit it won't disappoint.

Best fish and chips around in my opinion. Massive portions too! I made this above review 3 years ago and it is still completely true. I have NEVER had a bad experience buying fish and chips here. The fish is always flakey and the batter crispy. You will definitely not be disappointed if you go here.

Stopping for lunch in Tiverton this place was opposite the car park so we gave it a go. It is both a chippy takeaway and a seated restaurant. The fried fish looked good, but we ordered a pie and fishcakes. Big Mistake! They were both awful. The pie was filled with a slushy mince and gravy and was served lukewarm. My wife had the fishcakes and couldn't finish them. They tasted completely synthetic. The chips were hot and fresh tho'. We won't be going there again

This was one of the best fish and chip dinners I’ve had. De-lic-ious. Mushy peas and curry sauce also to be recommended. Waiter helpful and service quick. What is not to love! My son had burger and chips. Also a big thumbs up.

Stumbled across this restaurant. Food was excellent along with the service. They make fish and chips look 'posh'. Very reasonably priced too. Would definitely recommend the chicken nuggets for the non fish eaters.

Absolutely delicious food for a very reasonable price. The chicken was better then Harvester rotisserie chicken, the chips very tasty and the beans are really saucy. The service was spot on and they are very accommodating with any changes to your order, will definitely be returning!

Okay, so never had any issue before. Good service, good food. However, we recently ordered fish and chips and curry sauce. My wife is pescetarian, she eats fish, but otherwise is vegetarian. So, we weren't exactly impressed to find bits of chicken in the curry sauce, it's usually a safe option and we don't remember this ever being the case before. At least say on the menu whether it is suitable or not for vegetarians. It has really put us off.

We had a family meal for 3 people, really good fresh well presented food, perfectly acceptable wait for a fish and chip shop .

After a long day at the Mod Devon Show we popped down for a sit in meal. Very prompt in being sat with drinks order taken shortly. Food was delicious, we had a selection in our party and all meals looked really tasty. Very reasonably priced too.

It's a great plaice (sorry) excellent food, good service, great price. If you like Fish and Chips, don't go anywhere else.

Lovely food, their chicken balls are one of my favourite items on the menu. Reasonably priced. Queues are usually not very big but even when busy queue moves fast. Staff always very friendly

This is an excellent chip shop, the food here is great quality and reasonably priced. Have ate in the large restaurant area on our visits and found everywhere very clean & tidy with efficient & friendly table service. Full marks to the owners & staff bringing this top chippy to Tiverton. Highly recommended!

We turned up around 9:00pm we were greeted very warmly and took a seat in their spacious, immaculately clean dining area. We ordered a cider and cod and chips, the service was really quick, the food was cooked fresh and was piping hot! The batter was not thick and overwhelming just light and crispy, the portions were very generous and the chips were perfectly cooked, slightly crispy but nice and fluffy inside (my husband said very chippy! Lol) Definitely the best fish and chips we’ve had in a long time and very reasonably priced, well worth a visit!!! :-)

Beautiful meals here. Either sit in or take away. Grilled fish and boiled potatoes is my fav dish to eat in here. Husband enjoys the steak here. We have ate here often and enjoy our food each time. Staff are friendly and don't mind having a chat with you as long as they aren't busy. Always clean tables before they seat you. Also toilets inside, just in case your bottle of Stella goes straight through 😂
