Been here for breakfast a few times now, always I warm welcome and great food at a great price. In terms of overall experience, quality and value for money this is defiantly one on the best breakfasts in the area. Opens bright and early too. If you plan ahead you can even get your car valeted whilst you’re there. It won’t be long before we visit again.

First visit but was very impressed. Had a car wash and also had breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and polite. We had a medium breakfast which came with sausage bacon egg tomato’s beans and black pudding and mushrooms hash browns and a round of roast and your choice of coffees or tea. The large breakfast came with all the above but extra sausage and bacon. For the 2 breakfast and a car wash and a flapjack it was around £21. It was all well presented and quality of produce was very good the sausage and bacon was delicious. As was the lattes. The car was cleaned very well . Excellent value for money.

I used to visit The Grange regularly as it was superb value for money and had lovely home cooked produce and lovely cakes and scones etc. The hot chocolate was amazing. Its been a while since i visited so thought we would pop in for a hot drink and small bite to eat. I was disappointed to see that all the lovely cakes had gone and only a couple of large hot meals to choose from, and a selection of cold paninis, to heat on order. We ordered a couple of paninis and 2 hot chocolates. £13! The hot chocolates came very plain, no cream, no marshmallows, and very very bland and weak. The paninis were ok but the chicken was slimey and kept falling out. It was very busy and no-one came to see if everything was ok. In true British style, we didnt complain so just ate the food, drank the bland drink and left. Please go back to the old style of lovely big cakes and scones and nicely presented hot chocolate.

Excellent cafe with an attached car valet. Food is very good, 2 bacon rolls and 2 coffees for less than £10, whilst the car gets a valet for£22.50 what is there not too like. The cafe is run by HMP Kirklevington Open Prison and staffed by prisoners. Politeness and helpfulness in abundance as well as an excellent job done on the car which looks like new again. We will definitely be back.

Had Sunday Lunch , won't be revisiting this place in the future. 1. Roast potatoes appeared to have been deep fried rather than roasted. Very poor quality , no taste and no flavour. 2. Chicken breasts found to be poor quality , stringy , tough , no taste or flavour. 3 Yorkshire Pudding found to be stodgy , this was obviously due to poor mixing Very poor standard altogether and won't be going back.

We got married at the Grange in 2000 and as my parents were visiting for the day I thought it would be nice to treat them to afternoon tea. Booking was easy and amendments were quickly actioned. On arrival we were happy with the table layout and air conditioning. The young man who served us was pleasant and friendly. The tea and food came, which was lovely. Well presented and tasty. However, on 3 occasions we needed assistance (to ask for more tea and enquire about a couple of things) and no staff were to be found. Twice I had to knock on the kitchen door to get attention and the third time I had to go upstairs to the main reception to ask for someone to come to serve us. The receptionist stated that she had told management they needed staff in the restaurant and it wasn't the first time it had caused a problem. I then tried to pay but the card machine couldn't connect downstairs so I had to go upstairs again to pay. The young lad told us that he was the only member of staff available for upstairs and downstairs. Management should be aware that good service is integral to the reputation of the place and it was seriously lacking on this occasion. We felt deserted and unimportant as customers, which was not a good feeling when paying £130 for afternoon tea (7 guests). There were other passing trade guests who came to the bar but left again because they couldn't find anyone. For a city centre upper standard hotel our visit did not live up to expected standards. Disappointing.

I have come back to this hotel after a previous visit. My wife had booked the room we had had previously because of its spaciousness and accessibility. I am a wheelchair user so this was a vital part of the stay. Sadly on arrival the room had been given to someone else and the only equivalent rooms available were difficult to access because of tight corridors with multiple doors or steps. We have been given a room that does not have a walk in shower an can only just take my wheelchair. The hotel has agreed to reduce a bill to match the price of the room we have finally ended up in and not charged for parking. This doesn’t make up for the disappointment based on a failure to meet the booking as made.

Set in a "vaulted cellar" of the Hotel the restaurant was suitable for couples and small groups. We selected a set 3 course menu paying extra for the scallops entree - which were excellent. The range on the menu was a choice of 3 per course. All the courses were well presented and were very good. There was also a good range of drinks available from the bar.

Before we went on holiday I had our car valeted 2 weeks ago, when I went to collect my car 3 hours later it wasn't ready as they'd had a problem with the Jet washer so I had to collect an hour later, no problem as I live in Yarm, when I later collected the car and got home I noticed the Metallic Paintwork seemed dull, in places the lacquer had been what I can only describe as grit blasted with a matt effect, I went straight back and was told they are not sure what has happened and somebody from the Prison would get back to me ....... Two weeks later and still no contact from them so called back in this morning ..... The Supervisor says he'll chase it up .... Very unhappy with the service and damage to my paintwork, the car is an older Honda Legend but I am very annoyed with no contact from the Prison Manager.

You won't get such value for money anywhere else. The sandwiches were full of thick pieces of chicken breast, not just sliced chicken. £3 for a panini, crisps and a hot drink. But the highlight was the thick slice of chocolate topped flapjack, moist, tasty and 59p; even at £1.50 it would have been good value. There is also a great selection of well grown plants and craftwork. As a step towards rehabilitation this is valuable and it allows the public to see that these are real people trying to adjust to returning to society.

I have been here a few times and find it really interesting. The cafe is run by the inmates who are learning skills ready for their release. Everyone is really helpful and friendly. They serve light meals and delicious cakes at really good prices. There are two seating areas inside one traditional dining tables and the other more relaxed with sofas. I think you can sit outside weather permitting. You can also buy freshly baked bread, scones and free range eggs along with cards and wooden gifts. Outside there is car valeting, plants, woodwork and wrought iron work. I was delighted to see the addition of beehives today. In addition to an excellent cafe & bakery (quick, efficient, & pleasant service in clean surroundings they could easily charge twice the price with profits going to a relevant organisation), there's a car hand wash (leave your car while you dine - love it!), there's garden furniture, a small 'Garden Centre' and patio area. The reviews are written for the excellent facility at Kirklevington Grange Prison (not an hotel in York; TripAdvisor informed) - open to public. The cafe is staffed by prisoners coming towards the end of their sentence, gaining skills to help with rehabilitation. The cafe area is quite simply furnished and the menu (once breakfasts are finished at 11:00) quite modest; Sandwiches /Panini / Soup /Jacket Potatoes / Pizza. However, quality, enthusiasm, range of products (many home baked) coupled with very competitive prices - extending to their car washing & valeting services - make this a great place to visit.

I visited the cafe with my local cycling club recently. Cyclists always have a good appetite, and the food here satisfies it, at very reasonable prices. Once you are in the cafe, it is impossible to tell it has anything to do with a prison...apart from the all male staff. They could teach some high street cafes a few lessons, especially on speed of service. Overall a great place to visit, and a way to get good food whilst at the same time helping people to gain skills and experience. Lovely.
