Great little find for a morning breakfast. Staff all very friendly. Food of a good standard for the price. Had a good chat outside with Scott, thoroughly nice guy. Has a passion for the venue which comes through in the service.

Good place to stay close to airport. Plenty of parking. Easy walk to other pubs and restaurants nearby and by station. Clean and unworn rooms.

Perfect for early morning flight. Lovely room, beautifully clean. Friendly staff and good service. Excellent location. Would stay again.

Great pub for drinkers but definitely can’t recommend for Sunday lunch. Just had turkey dinner and the food was tepid. Pigs in blankets were anaemic and not at all edible. Two good slices of turkey and a Yorkshire pudding, hiding the fact there were next to no vegetables underneath. 9 peas, 3 slices of carrots, one broccoli spear, two dried cauliflower florets and gravy like water. Terrible. All the Sunday dinners on our table were the same. All other meals (burgers and pies) looked lovely.

We go to the Governers regularly and it’s always great service and atmosphere. Went last night for a meal for 5 and had a really nice experience - the food was top quality and reasonably price, highly recommend the beef rib bourguignon but we also had chicken katsu, gammon, scampi and risotto which everyone enjoyed - but what really made the evening was our server Evan! He was so friendly, funny and was patient with us when we weren’t ready to order. He looked rushed off his feet as I think he said he’s usually on bar service, but he was still so welcoming and kind. Thank you Evan for a great evening!

Bar serive , is great service Chicken toasted sandwich is lovely , With chips on side , we also ordered other side dishes ... smashed mash , salad and sweet potato chips .. Currently in my local area I find its the best for food and drink in Cheadle hulme .. a bar menu, and a restaurant menu fully packed when I went today ... food hot from the kitchen 😋 ...

I frequent this pub on nights out for a reason! there is a great atmosphere and the staff are always lovely and well accommodating. a young man called evan served me last time with a smile and was prompt with our order despite a queue. professional and friendly service always. could not recommend enough for a pint (or five!) and some good pub grub. will be returning for years to come!

Food is really average. Thursday steak deal is not worth the money and over cooked. Meagre portions so you don't want to be too hungry. Should have had the burger

Great birthday meal with kids too. Karen our waitress was attentive and lovely. Food and drinks were spot on. Highly recommend it.

Your staff need to be taught basic social skills.

We popped in for a drink early on Friday evening. A very welcoming pub with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Good choice of draught beer and a wide variety of alcohol free drinks too. Have been here several times and have never been disappointed. Have been in again today for lunch. Roast Beef was lovely and the kids meals were a good size and quality. Great value for money.

Nice quiet place, tasty breakfast

The perfect place to be when you have an early flight out of Manchester airport. Comfortable, clean rooms. Welcoming, efficient and friendly staff. Great food and bar options. We've been a few times now and it never disappoints.

Food and service was absolutely delightful, we had burger and the chicken focaccia bread! We will be back. Edit.. we returned the next day for the Sunday roast. The beef was very chewy, frozen veg, roast potatoes were very pale and not crispy, frozen roast parsnips were burnt. I wouldn’t recommend it. I did mention it to the server and was told the beef would be replaced which was ok and I say that lightly. By that point though the rest of the meal was cold anyway. A slight discount would have been more satisfying however we paid and left without a fuss. Sorry 😔 for £15.79 each it was not worth the money.

Spent Sunday afternoon at the ‘Govs’ with friends sampling the Guinness! It’s a good sized pub with a nice atmosphere. It was busy but service was still prompt and friendly. Steve and his team doing a great job.

Need to review opening times it clearly states 11. We was rudely told you weren’t open after stating that it says everywhere you open at 11 we were very bluntly told “it’s wrong”. Extremely poor customer service and won’t be returning. A shame as we always use to come regularly. ( we have also arrived at this time before and have always been aloud to sit down and have a drink)

We went for lunch for mum's 92nd birthday on New Year's Day and the food was delicious.

Good atmosphere, very clean and great selction of drinks in the pub/restaurant. Special mention to Evan this evening, very friendly and quick service! Keep up your hard work, your really making a difference to your work place 😊

I have to congratulate The Governor's staff for excellent service and a superb Xmas dinner. It was far beyond our expectations for such a busy day. They had even reserved a table at the bar in case we had to wait but the table was ready on time. Our first family Xmas Dinner away from home but won't be the last. Many thanks!!!

A nice enough place if you can spare a couple of hours for a two course meal.. An hour to get the main and an hour to get the dessert.. 🤣 Wasn't even particularly busy..

Excellent service from Olivia throughout the days we were guests. Check-in was smooth. Food and drink service quick and efficient. Always on hand. Good communication from staff even when we couldn’t have dinner in the Restaurant due to problems in the pub. Even offering different suggestions with us not being from the area. Thanks from Room 6.

Had a seniors’ lunch today and the food was very good. Great chef on today as I’ve had a few poor ones! Also brilliant service from a delightful young lady.

Usually had good food and service however went for a meal last night and service and food not good walked through door and felt rushed before got coats off asked what we wanted to drink and we just said can we sit down first? Then it was ages before we were asked again! Eventually order taken I requested Beef burgieon (not spelt right) without broccoli advised I could have carrots. At this stage waitress didn't write our order down! How would she remember? Then she came back and advised no beef left so picked pie, again with carrots. Took forever to arrive in fact a table of 4 next to us came in after us was served before us. At no time were we asked if we wanted any more drinks, in fact I had to call her over. Starter arrived I ordered chicken straps which came in a small tin dish not plate. Main course came with broccoli which I particularly asked not to have, gave to my friend who couldn't eat 'cause too hard. Then on to mash well it had a hard surface as though left on plate and was dry. Had sticky toffee pudding which was fine. So will not be going back sad really! Have previously had good food such a shame!

Myself and a colleague stayed here last week for work. It is a great place, nice location with a very reasonable price for the room. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. We were shown to our rooms and everything was explained clearly, which was a nice touch.The rooms are modern and comfortable. Great night sleep! We only ate here for Breakfast. It was a fantastic breakfast for £10. Would stay again. A+

Very disappointing Christmas meal. Sprouts and carrots too soft, potatoes and parsnips hard and Yorkshire pudding inedible - a flat hard pancake. If I had not been part of a large group I would have sent it back. Service and decorations good though.

Came here as dog friendly for their dog. We all had the seniors menu which was very good value. The food was all very well cooked and served. I had bangers and mash everyone else had fish and chips.(after winter greens soup and followed by crumble). Fairly quiet in the bar side as it was a Monday but busy in dining area. Fairly slow, though we didn't mind as not in a rush.

It was my birthday and I am so glad I chose here the buffet was fabulous and staff were great. Thankyou to Steve and the team for a great night.

On our arrival Olivia was so helpful and welcoming, and Scott was was an efficient and friendly smiley face at breakfast, which was delicious. Cozy pub atmosphere, and splendid tasteful comfortable room 4. A delightful stay. We’ll be back.

I came back to the UK for a 3 week trip from Australia. Visited the Governors multiple times as it’s one of the best pubs in Cheadle hulme. Very cosy vibes with a great selection of food and drink. Karen behind the bar is one of the loveliest people you’ll ever meet and another reason we kept popping in for a drink :) definitely worth a visit! Highly reccomend

We went for the launch night of the new menu. We were very impressed with the items on the menu. It’s not just the meals on the menu it’s the little things that you can ask for. It’s the condiments that help the reviews

Been going in the Governors for some time and it has changed for the better in the last few months. The food has improved, the staff are still very helpful and friendly. A lady called Natalie goes over and above checking customers are happy with their order whether it be food or drink and with a few laughs along the way.

Met a friend the other night for dinner and drinks. The staff here are great and took our order straight away. The food was really nice and Kirsty had the steak and ale pie all home made. Stayed for a few drinks. We will be back soon. Well done to all the team.

My elderly father and auntie and myself have been coming here for the last few months on a Friday for lunch, as they really enjoy the senior menu as it’s such good value for money . We arrived today to be told that the senior menu had stopped Thursday and Friday and is now only available mon-wed which was quite disappointing as my only day off from work is a Friday so can all get together for lunch. The staff were very good in explaining the changes to the menu and senior menu. We ordered off the main menu, the food was good just a little more than what we were expecting to be paying. We were talking to people on the table next to us and they were also disappointed with having the days limited to when the seniors menu was available. We will return at some point but we will be looking around to see what is on offer for the oldies as a change.

We decided to go on the spur of the moment- there was no difficulty in finding a table and the staff were very helpful in particular Callum. There was a good range of food and vegetarian and vegan meals plus gluten free were all available and there was a choice. Service was prompt but never rushed and having not visited for quite a while we were impressed with the new layout and decor.

Last minute decision to nip out for something to eat with the family and was pleasantly surprised..Food was all served quick with good sized portions..Shout out to Natalie who nothing was too much trouble for even taking the grandson to get his own ice cream which was lovely..Certainly be going back soon.

Ordered two fish and chips and drinks. Fish was dark brown and overcooked from outside while old, crumbling, slightly discolored and dry on the inside. Mentioned to a member of staff but did not hear back from manager.
