Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!

We’ve just returned from Sunday lunch here as an early birthday treat for my husband, what a treat it was! Small, cosy dining area with lovely staff. We both had the roast beef which was excellent, followed by cheeseboard and rice pudding. Everything was absolutely delicious!

Fabulous, charming hospitality in a stunning setting. Daily menu is really excellent, full of local produce, taken in a relaxed, spacious dining room. Wine list is as described by the owner - small but serious. Super comfortable room all in the most gorgeous glen/valley. Highly recommend driving to/from Moffat and visiting the falls.

A weekend away in the Scottish Borders led to us unexpectedly finding this wonderful restaurant in the Yarrow Valley today. It was one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in years (delicious local beef and pork) and a seriously tempting menu focussed around local ingredients by Bryn Jones. The honey cake for dessert by @she.likesbaking was also incredible and I’ve only just realised that Oxana Jones is not only a wonderful front-of-house host, but also an extremely talented baker. Thank you to your team, it was a memorable lunch and we’ll definitely be back for one of your tasting menus and an overnight stay.

We had a brilliant meal while on holiday in the Boarder of Scotland. This place is a real gem! The food was great and cooked perfectly. The service was spot on, not too rushed, and the surroundings made the whole meal perfect, and to make it even better, we were able to take our dog with us too! I would highly recommend this restaurant and will be back next time we stay locally.

We visited the Gordon Arms with friends on a trip exploring the Borders in September. Staying one night with dinner. For starters we had the Baked Fig, Smoked Mackerel, and the Potted Shrimp. For mains we had Wild See Bass, Barnsley Chops, and Rib-eye Steak. For dessert it was Creme Brulee, Honey Cake, and Armagnac Prunes. We all agreed that the food was very good indeed. I had the Barnsley chop and it was some of the best lamb I've ever eaten. A very generous sized chop, cooked to perfection and full of flavour. The honey cake was also exceptional and worthy of a notable mention. It's clear that the dishes crafted by Bryn aren't finicky or overly clever self indulgent offerings, but simple honest classic flavours that are delivered exceptionally well. It is no surprise to hear of the awards and accolades won, deservedly so. As you'd expect with somewhere that sells itself as a "Restaurant with rooms" the rooms weren't quite up to the exceptional standard of the food, or indeed represented quite as good value for money as the dining experience. However the rooms were comfortable enough. The bedding and towels were very good quality. The only very slight negative from our stay was that despite Oxana's friendliness and personal warmth we all felt the dining room was a little cold on a late September evening. Having the fire lit in the room would have made the evening perfect. We would certainly go back if we are visiting the area again. My only fear is that given Bryn's rising star and increasing popularity we may find it difficult to get a table!

THE BEST restaurant on planet earth. “The Award-Winning The Gordon Arms Restaurant with Rooms”. The menu changes frequently taking full advantage of the changing seasons and takes it inspiration form the land and sea, using only the finest ingredients, locally sourced where possible and cooked to perfection by the head Chef Bryn. The desserts are to die for and expertly baked to perfection by the very lovely Oxana. I now have an all time favourite desert, “The Mascarpone baked cheesecake with berries” simply divine ♥️

Outstanding Sunday lunch Potted shrimp and smoked mackerel and local charcuterie as starters Beef rib , lamb Barnsley chop mains. Rhubarb crème brûlée pud Other alternatives on a varied but not , fortunately, overly extensive menu based primarily on locally sourced ingredients. This is not a pile it high with everything Sunday lunch, ( although generous in a normal sense) this is exquisite finely crafted food. I have not had better in the area , or probably elsewhere. I am kicking myself for not visiting earlier. Along with the food the service is excellent welcoming and kind. Beautiful location and restaurant, and despite its history it is restaurant with rooms rather than a traditional pub , but there is a small bar area. Booking strongly recommended -all tables taken. Lunch £36- 42 for 3 courses excluding drinks - worth every penny and more.

We are a well traveled couple with a passion for food, and have dinned in eateries all over the world, and have sampled some amazing dishes from various cuisines, so we consider ourselves self confessed foodies, with a seasoned palate. We live in the Scottish Borders and have some amazing award winning eateries, but for us “The Gordon Arms” is by far the best in the whole of the Scottish Borders and we can say that confidently has we have eaten in them all. Bryn, your food speaks for it’s self, but WOW you have earned the “Chief’s Kiss” The Yarrow Valley Venison Wellington, with red wine jus, roasted potatoes, and savoy cabbage, is now my all time best dish. The Yarrow Valley Venison Wellington was cooked to perfection, it just melted in the mouth and was like slicing through butter. Please this must remain a staple on the menu. Not forgetting Oxana, the amazing hostess. She’s very attentive, friendly and nothing is to much trouble, but she’s more than an hostess, she’s an amazing baker the most Devine Honey Cake - A well deserved Bakers Kiss, you and Bryn are definitely a match made in heaven. If you’re traveling through the Scottish Borders to your destination please consider a little detour and pop in for lunch or dinner, you will not be disappointed.

Nestled in the scenic Yarrow Valley, our recent visit to The Gordon Arms Restaurant with Rooms was like reconnecting with an old friend. This marked our 6th or 7th return since the new owners took over, and each time feels like a warm embrace. We decided to try their November 5-course tasting menu and wine flights, and it was nothing short of delightful. The chef's expertise shone through in every dish, turning our evening into a simple yet heartwarming experience in the heart of the Scottish Borders. What makes The Gordon Arms truly special is the consistent warmth in their welcome and the genuine care in their service. It's more than a restaurant; it's a place that feels like a comforting retreat. And here's the lovely surprise – the November 5-course tasting menu with wines was just £48 per person. A humble touch that makes this gem in the Scottish Borders not just a place we return to for the food but for the down-to-earth charm and value it brings to every visit. A genuine 5-star find that keeps us coming back with a smile.

If I could rate this place lower than a 1 I absolutely would. We called to make the booked as it was one of few places that accepted dogs in the area during our lodge break. The women took our booking but didn’t disclose that there was a minimum spend per person of £23. This also was the same terms for our toddler. We arrive to find out the minimum spend and that they have no kids menu. So after being seated we decided that the minimum spend for a child who wouldn’t have ate anything from the extremely posh menu was too much and we’d just have drinks and leave the women who sat us down acted appalled and aggressive started clearing our table whilst we were still sat with drinks. After clearing the table she took herself behind the bar where she stood and stared at us until we paid and left. I must add the place only had 1 other couple so it’s not as if we took up a place. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant before. Won’t be back!

Saturday lunch - a fantastic meal and top service. The menu is dominated by local produce. We went for three courses for just over £30 which is a great deal, especially when the cooking is as good as this. Seriously excellent food cooked by a proper chef who also popped out to say hello - all part of the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I fully recommend this place - well worth a drive up the spectacular Yarrow Valley. They also do a takeaway service so you can enjoy the same quality at home.

I have visited the Gordon arms twice this year, once for food and once for a stay over in room 3 and food. It is a lovely quiet location with excellent food and rooms. The hosts are most welcoming and very hospitable. At breakfast I ordered extra toast half way through and it came in time to finish our breakfast, including their own made jam. Our evening meal was amazingly delicious (local venison) and service was friendly and speedy. The view from our room was also amazing if you take away the dreaded Scottish weather. Overall an amazing experience, oh and not to forget the great choice of wines!

We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant recently, while in the area to watch the UCI Cycling World Championships. There were 4 of us and our elderly dog in his buggy. We all ate something different and everyone enjoyed their meal, but the dish that received the most praise was the creme brulee with rhubarb which my daughter had. She said it was so light and creamy with the best caramalised sugar topping she had ever tasted. We heard about it a lot on the journey home! Sadly no photos.

We recently enjoyed an evening at The Gordon Arms where we stayed in a very comfortable room and ate extremely well at both dinner and breakfast. The room was beautifully appointed with very comfortable beds and good quality linen. The room was simply decorated but had everything we needed. Everything was spotlessly clean. Even though we were at the front, the road was very quiet so we enjoyed a wonderful nights sleep even with the window open. Dinner was an experience. The choice was very good and beautifully cooked and presented. Breakfast the same. The choice of wines were excellent too. Overall, the ambience was lovely and we were made to feel very welcome from the hosts. The surrounding countryside is second to none and although we were both reasonably local to the area we enjoyed the change of scene and what the area has to offer. The inn has been freshened without losing the character and timelessness that is its special feature. We wish the owners Bryn and Oxana every success. Please keep on doing what you are doing already as it is a winning formula. We will def be back to stay again.

Oxana (owner) is an excellent host, makes you feel very welcome, also a nice touch when Chef/owner Bryn comes to the table to ask if your meal was enjoyed, to which we both said YES. My husband and I were staying at Broadmeadows Farmhouse b&b; recently and the Gordon Arms was recommended as a good place to eat by our host. I'm so pleased she told us. This has to be one of the best restaurant meals we have eaten. Not a crumb left on either plates and that is very unusual for myself. Would certainly look forward to visiting again when next in the area.

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime whilst on holiday with our two Border Collies. Lovely clean pub and very dog friendly. Good choice of items on the menu. We had steak and ale pie which was lovely - meat was perfectly cooked, and served with a selection of vegetables. Reasonable price and very good service. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Not only great food, felt like being at a friends house too. The owners are so very welcoming and helpful. Historic building but so fresh and up to date. A fabulous place to stop for a meal or stay for a visit. Breakfast is just so good. And a function room for an event too. I can’t sing the praises enough for visiting here, the views and walks are amazing. This is just what I’d love about a local inn. Well worth stopping by or staying at. You won’t regret it and will leave feeling like one of the family. 10/10

Parking is a bit of a problem with some extra spaces at the old petrol station. The interior is bright and new after the 2015 fire rebuild. A spacious interior with a bar area and a dining area. We were quickly seated and served. The food was excellent and the price was reasonable. A popular inn with plenty of walkers, motorbikers and locals. Also a hotel and a good base for exploring the area. Great views of the hills and very tranquil surroundings.

Set in the heart of The Scottish Borders The Gordon Arms is a wonderful base from where you can explore a simply stunning area. You will arrive as a visiting guests and leave as friends. The facilities at The Gordon are excellent with ample sized rooms, we had a twin room, with a lovely shower. All the rooms have a kettle for tea and coffee and quality biscuits too. Downstairs though is the bar and restaurant. The food is delicious, fresh cooked to order and homemade by Tommy the chef, served by Susan both owners of The Gordon.

Nice friendly bar and dining area. Really welcoming after a long hike in the hills. We were there on the 3rd Sunday of the month which is an open mic music session so we had live music to accompany our meal.

They couldnt be bothered, neither could I, took money elsewhere. I understand I did not ask for high value items from menu, but place was dead quiet, no excuse for 35 min wait. Snack attack in Selkirk Square nicer greeting, same order served there and then and cheaper, sit in too.

Used this pub as a meeting place for friends who were travelling up to join us for a weekend in the area. The food was really lovely, home made tarter sauce with the fish was yummy! They made us very welcome and accommodated one of our party who is wheelchair bound without fuss or bother.

It was a very cold Sunday when we thought we would drop in for lunch at the Gordon Arms and we were delighted to see it was up and running again after the unfortunate fire in the premises. It is an attractive traditional country pub and the owners should be congratulated on its refurbishment which has a long history in the Borders.

The Gordon has renovated after a fire but has lost none of its historical charm in the process and has increased comfort with a very nice dining room, well spaced tables , good atmosphere and very friendly, pleasant staff. The menu isn't fancy but offers good produce, good sized portions and good value. Caters well for families and children and groups of friends as well as couples and solo diners.

After the disastrous fire Susan and Tommy have re-built the hotel which is now one of the best in the region and has the complete support of all the locals. The food is really good and of course the service is second to none plus since the re-build the lounge is lovely and spacious but best of all it is lovely and warm on a cold day. If you like good quality food at reasonable prices plus a bit of local chat then this is thee place to go. Once again one of the nice local hostelries that specialise in local food and local ingredients cooked to the highest standards. We go fairly regular and have now got a lot of our friends going as well which shows just how good the Gordon Arms is. Well worth a visit and you will not be disappointed.

We stayed here for a night on our Scotland vacation. We had supper and man was it good! Started of with soup...very tasty. Then we decided on burgers...my wife had a "normal" burger, which she could not finish, and I had the Famous Gordon Burger. How can you improve on a burger you ask? Put Haggis and Bacon on it! The only trouble with the burgers is trying to get your mouth around one! It was a tough job, but success!

Family meal 6 adults and 4 kids (age 3 to 6). Great food and lovely atmosphere. Staff were great with the kids too. 5 of us had 3 courses and thoroughly enjoyed every one. I had garlic mushrooms, then the burger with black pudding and chorizo. Pudding was baileys cheesecake (homemade), amazing. Although there is no official kids menu they do cater very well for kids and all kids cleared their plates.

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.

Great little cafe. Excellent bacon, sausage, and egg role for the price. Coffee was ok. Opens early.
