Stopped in for an impromptu bite to eat after lunch time. The kitchen was closed but the owner went and sorted a meal out for me himself and took the time to talk to me about the events coming up. Will definitely be back again. Great atmosphere.

We popped in here for a light lunch yesterday. Very nice welcome, asked to choose a table and owner would come to us. Ordered a starter each - 1 pate, 1 fishcake - both were plentiful and delicious. We have eaten here in the past, and enjoyed it, so hoped the change of name and ownership would live up to past experience, it definitely did. We do not live close to the pub, so it will not be a regular venue for us, but will certainly visit again whenever in the area. Well done to the new owner, we wish you the success you deserve.

Went with our family today for the 1st time, firstly want to say what a friendly atmosphere and warm welcome, the service was very prompt. The food was amazing with great portion very good value for money. We had starter mains and dessert all three courses were amazing. Will definitely be coming back with my family. The owner is a genuine guy. I have the chef a 10/10

My husband and l called in on the off chance for lunch, so pleased we did, had a very warm welcome from Barry the landlord he asked if we had booked, we hadn’t but it was absolutely no problem, we had a nice table by the window, the food was very good and enjoyable, cooked to perfection, we were served by a lovely lady who couldn’t do enough for us (I didn’t get her name😔). So just by stopping on the off chance was well worth it, we came out feeling well fed and watered, it was such a treat to have great service all round. We will certainly be going back. My family and I attended this great pub for a sunday roast and the service and food quality is excellent. From the moment you are enter inside you are greeted by the lovely staff and the friendly locals. Great atmosphere, very friendly staff and locals even better food!

We had a fab experience here. Barry and his team have done wonders in bringing a new lease of life to this pub. We last came here years ago when it was under different ownership and were reluctant to come back. I'm very happy we retried it as it far exceeded our expectations. Not only has the decor improved substantially, but the food was brilliant. I would definitely recommend it. Thanks Barry and happy birthday Bertie!

Took advantage of a brilliant Sunday luinchtime deal at the pub. So very glad we did. A very welcoming atmosphere in the place and great service from the staff. The lunches ( 1 beef and 1 pork) were excellent and a ngood quantity. It was all cooked (and presented) beautifully. Will definitely be returning. If that's typical of the pub's fare then we will be going again soon.

we had our Christmas day dinner here this year , A very warm welcome and a real family vibe in the pub . full traditional turkey dinner and a rare roast beef was thoroughly enjoyed by us . under the meat was hiding lovely parsnips, cheesey broccoli and sprouts with pancetta, everything was perfectly seasoned and full of flavour, with a lovely juicy gravy. this was after our starter of scallops, black pudding and parsnip puree. Pudding was the landlords speciality of cheese cake. I don't really want to advertise how good it was as we plan on returning next year and of course through out the year .

We just had dinner at the Royal Oak, there's a lovely comfortable atmosphere around the pub, and the food was amazing! Chef made my (usually incredibly fussy) son chicken goujons and he absolutely loved them! He was very impressed with "Theo's Chicken Goujons" :) The rest of the food was delightful, and the service impeccable. I especially enjoyed the friendliness from the staff and management! Highly recommend and appreciate this place, will definitely come back :)

My husband and I visited here for his birthday recently and we had such a warm welcome by Barry and he took time to chat with us and even buy a birthday drink for us! It was a very pleasant experience. The food was exceptional. There wasn't an awful lot to chose from and lacking in veggie/vegan choices, however, we spoke about this with Barry and I know he has many plans. Cheers Barry!

2024- Birthday Tomahawk steak was fantastic. We felt really spoilt. Would recommend 🤩🤤👍 Took the kids to see Santa and the pub was warm, very welcoming and friendly. Really generous presents and we had a lovely visit.

First time here since the place reopened under new management and back to the old name. Very friendly, nice atmosphere and sensibly priced compared to some local pub restaurants. Owner/host v keen to please. Recommended. Will return! Ps. seemed dog friendly, bowls inside and biscuits etc.

We have just visited this lovely pub and enjoyed breakfast. Service was brilliant, everyone was very friendly and made us feel welcome and it was lovely to meet Barry, the owner. The food was delicious and even my daughter who is coeliac could enjoy a breakfast too.

Met here for a family lunch. The lunch menu consisted of pub classics (fish and chips/burger/scampi etc) plus a really decent all day breakfast as well as lighter bites like salads, sandwiches and jacket potatoes. Everyone in our group had something different and we were all pleased with our choices. The landlord was lovely, even providing a delicious cheesecake when he heard it was my brother's birthday! A really lovely place for an uncomplicated lunch! Easy to park too, which is always a bonus!

Attended a Stand Together Against Cancer Fundraiser which was well attended. Staff were very friendly and a very enjoyable day in a lovely setting.

Stopped today for a spot of lunch.... wow what a find.... nice welcoming staff great menu... they had some banging scotch eggs in the bar..., But I needed something a little more.... So went for the wagyu burger... wow blown away.... great little place deffo worth a visit

We have been twice in the last couple of weeks and were pleased by the food and service on both occasions. It’s refreshing to have a local pub that serves ‘pub grub’ at a reasonable price rather than those pubs that charge restaurant prices for overly fancy dishes.

Had a great evening hosted by the new owner Barry who made us feel really welcome. Food and service was excellent with good size portions and reasonable prices. Great to see that Barry is trying to run this as a traditional English pub with good food and a warm welcome. Also looking forward to some of the musical events coming up later in the month where money is being raised for worthwhile charities.

Nice English pub. Good food and lots of open beers. The service was great and very nice. There is also live music every Friday. That was awesome and had a lot of flair.

Didn’t have ginger ale to serve. Which I find weird for a British pub not to stock.

Just popped in on the off chance for a pint and maybe a bite. Glad we did. From the outside it’s being painted so as of now I think even the owners may admit it’s not overly appealing but ignore that. Nice inside and a really nice garden with shaded and sunny benches. The roast beef sandwich served with chips for a tenner was superb, a proper homemade sandwhich really good, filled to the brim with beef. The Bacon, Brie and cranberry sandwich was the same, filled to the gunnels, no skimping. It was only that we were a pair of gutty so and so’s that we finished it. Lovely pint of thatchers also. Service was superb and you felt welcomed by the locals. If you’re driving by pop in. If the rest of the menu was like those sandwiches you’re on to a winner. Thanks to all.

We visited this pub on Friday 19th July as we were playing a gig in the snug. We all had a meal beforehand which was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere in the pub was very friendly and we all had a great evening. I highly recommended a visit for the food and the live music.

This Pub was simply outstanding!! Barry the Landlord looked after us from the start, and he and his staff were brilliant throughout the meal we had. The food was absolutely exquisite!! The beers were brilliant, the locals all said hello and the service was sublime. I wish Barry and his team all the best for the future, and hope this pub is here for many more years to come!! This english country pub is under new management and has reverted to its old name of the Royal oak. the new owners are young and enthusiastic and th food is excellent. It is a typical country pub with lots of local characters. cream teas are superb and the food is very god. well worth a visit

My partner and I came across your lovely pub by chance today. The food was delicious and huge portions. I had lasagne and my partner had the lamb shank. The owner was very welcoming and the staff very attentive. Hope to return for Friday gig night and more fab food

Wow what a hidden gem. The pub is in a lovely location. There is plenty of parking. When we walked in we got a warm and friendly welcome from staff. We got shown to a table and the menu looked great. All 3 of us ate and oh my gosh the food was amazing. If I could give more starts I would. I can't wait to go back for another amazing lunch.

Writing as a musician who was invited to play here/who ate here too. Pub is a straight 10/10. The staff are super accommodating and really nice. You’re treated very well. Food was good. The venue has a bit of a tight load in since you go in past the bar where people drink but they move for you and when you’re actually in you have plenty of space and when we played the clientele were great. Up for a party but no one like up on the stage getting up in your face/on your equipment or anything. It was just a really nice venue with staff I could not fault and the who place had a nice atmosphere. We are 100% looking to come back and happy to spread the word about this place because as a musician there are a lot of pub venues that you get all your stuff trodden on or people get way too drunk and harass you and you’re pretty much an after thought for the venue so when you get to play somewhere like this that does go the extra step to make you feel valued and who do a good job at it, it does stand out and it is absolutely worth mentioning. Thanks for having us guys. I’m certain we will see you again!

I can strongly recommend this lovely village pub.has a great range of ales and home cooked food the staff are always really friendly and the landlord is really friendly the pub has under gone some refurbishment under the new owner and looks like it’s future is going to be good with the pub soon to be opening its function rooms .

Been on a Sunday for a roast a few times now and each time the roast has been absolutely delicious. Big portions and very reasonable prices too. Would highly recommend this pub.

Great pub! Lovely selection of proper home cooked food, great portions, good selection of drinks and lovely staff. Plus a large beer garden to rear and some great live music here too. Looking forward to more visits in the future!

The new owner is still refurbishing the pub and it looks loads better already. The menu, albeit small, is offering good traditional pub food, which was delicious. The staff are really friendly and helpful. It was quiet in there for a Saturday night, but we didn't mind that at all! We'll be back soon

The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. First time visiting and the regulars made us feel like one of the family. We could have stayed there all day. Sunday lunch was fabulous. Not too overwhelming so we managed starter and dessert too. Definitely going back soon, apparently Friday night live music is not to be missed.

Used to be a great place to eat, but after a 20mile drive, we found that they no longer serve food!!

Stopped for Sunday lunch with friends, while passing through. Three main courses of various meats ordered. Not huge but reasonable plates with vegetable side dishes. Plates were cleaned and food enjoyed. Great if you eat meat. If you don't beware. The Sunday roast Vegetarian option is a couple of spoonfuls of what could be described as Paxo stuffing. It looked, smelled and tasted like - Paxo Stuffing. No homemade nut roast, or roasted veg delights here. The side veg were nice, but I was left feeling hungry. And pretty annoyed. Could do much better. I realise that vegetarians are a nuisance, heaven help any vegans, but if you don't cater for us, you will miss out on group bookings where one or more guests don't eat dead animals. I am fed up of paying over the odds for a plate of poorly presented vegetables or a mushy bake. We ordered desserts. They sounded nice, but were clearly not homemade and small portions. Would have liked to have complained, but didn't want to make a scene and embarrass the friends. Overall - poor.

Excellent food at very reasonable prices. The service was friendly and efficient, and there was a good selection of local ales. It has a nice, genuine country pub ambiance - it's not part of a chain, and has its own unique charm. It's also a short walk from Chawton, and on a nice circular walking route. We'll definitely go back next time we're in the area.

A wonderful little pub down country roads in Hampshire. Reasonably priced (fiver for a pint), nice friendly staff and excellent food. The beer garden was quirky and we enjoyed sitting in the sun being watched by the little Robin. Highly recommend.

We went to the Golden Pheasant for a family lunch. We all thought the food was great and the service was exemplary.

We hadn't booked but called in on the off chance of having Sunday Lunch Greeted warmly and showed to a table. Drinks served promptly while we read the menu A good choice to suit most tastes and what a great idea, a mini roast option for those with a small appetite. From order to table the roasts took about twenty minutes, freshly cooked and well presented. Enough room for a delicious pudding afterwards Relaxed atmosphere, and as close as you can get to a traditional pub. Two course meal plus drinks for two people was £30 Excellent value

We had my mum's 80th birthday lunch here with 24 guests and it was amazing! The food and service were exceptional and very reasonably priced. All our guests raved about the food and how lovely the staff were. Thank you to all the staff at The Golden Pheasant for making my mum's day so special! ☺️

Well where to begin...Firstly the smell...we felt like we were holding our breath the whole time we were there. If we weren't so polite we would have left. It is a great place if you only like kidneys and seafood. Our food came, which looked like microwave dishes and the pie was watery and stew like, only a flat pastry top... not fresh veg and 3 chips, also an added special ingredient of, you guessed it ....kidneys! The chicken Fricassee was not pleasant at all. Even the bread roll was a super market bought pack of rolls. No lunch menu offered, but over heard another couple had one and ordered sandwiches. We also heard the staff member talking to other customers about how they haven't been busy since Christmas.... We can see why...Very bizarre menu! Let's just say we will not be visiting again.

The pub wasn't busy but even though they were short staffed, the service could have been a lot better. The roast of the day looked ok but the side plates of vegies were cold, the main dishes were cold, and even after one main was "microwaved" , along with the 3 side dishes of vegies, still wasn't hot. Once "reheated" the staff didn't bother to check if everything was ok. The 2 lunches of roast beef were slivers of beef, and fatty. The turkey dish dried up when microwaved. No one asked if we wanted dessert, and although the guy serving apologised to a degree for the poor food and service, there really was no care. The place has been for sale since before the pandemic, they don't want to increase staff due to costs, yet they won't increase traffic flow with poor reviews. Probably best to cut your losses and don't serve food if you can't handle it. Whilst they didn't charge for 1 meal or drinks, there was still no genuine care. Shame, because the potential is there and it's a nice venue.

Should be no stars. Entered the pub at 12:10, were told it would probably be about 1:00 before we would eat. Ordered our meals to be told the order would go to the kitchen later..........1pm order had still not gone to the chef and it would not be going for another 10 mins, at least. There was only one other table occupied. 1:10 still not gone. .......we left. What an absolute joke!!!!!!

Very disappointing. A very tired place that needs some serious updating. Very limited menu, maybe 4/5 main course choices. Asked for fish and chips, no fish. Went for the lamb shank, described as slowly and lovingly cooked - obvious bought in. Served with a spoon of mash, awful chips that just tasted of oil and no veg. If we'd realised, we would have ordered vegetables as a side dish. Went straight from the pub to Tesco to get something to eat!

Terrible. Inedible. Never again. Not even offered a part refund. Two tastes and left. Awful
