Royal anchor liphook in East Hampshire

Went here last Monday with my grandmother, grandfather and partner, and the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and polite, and Jess who cooked our food did a great job. The pub had been going down a little over the years, but the team now could bring the pub back to life and I am really hopeful for them. I will be coming back next time I come to visit my family.

I started working in the area a couple of months ago, and this is the local for me. Lovely pub, local, decent prices and great staff. Special mention to Bren the Manager who is always welcoming and always has a good conversation to greet with. Also Brad, Tim, and the beautiful ladies,Bex and Kerry who always greet me with a smile and excellent service. Don't miss out, definitely worth a visit for a pint which may turn into 5 and a meal :)

Worst experience we have had in years. Staff wasn't helpful. Wasn't friendly. Eating are starter, main meal comes out halfway through are starter. We tell them that we're still eating. Not interested. Still put the plates on the table. Couldn't finish our food.we have been coming here for many years We've had a few occasions with family and friends not anymore.

Absolutely apauling my daughter who is celiac has just had a meal there and returned home violently ill after what she believes was caused by a bread roll that she was told was gluten free very poor education of staff this can be life threatening for the likes of my daughter you will be hearing from us when you are open again we are now waring to see if she needs to go to hospital. Needless to say we won't be eating at your restraint again nor recommending it to anyone.

This was our first visit here, a treat for after a lovely morning out during half term. I came in with two children, myself and daughter ordered a full English and my son ordered a child’s meal. The full English breakfast’s arrived what only I can say was a plate full of beans, the sausages were rubber texture and we found a pea under our hashbrown. There was also a thin white plastic line of something in the beans. They had no still water so I had a tea in a stained mug, no corn on the cobs for children’s meal either. We did order desserts child’s brownie, adult brownie both came out on dirty bowls and was slammed on the table and a adult candy mania to share, they had no whipped cream so added more chocolate bits on. Sadly we will not be returning or recommending this place.

Just came down from Wales to visit friends and family and grab a quick bite. Service was fantastic and the food was delicious despite a short wait which we were advised. Bex is a credit to your team.

No fish and chip what a let I never gone with fish and chips on a good Friday a total let down

Astonished, simply had a cup of tea...felt like I'd finished before I started, the mug was totally filthy, obviously rinsed but not washed for what must have been days or weeks....an actual layer of grime...the photos are of an empty cup as I poured the contents into a slightly cleaner one...disgusting..how unclean was that...avoid this place...its grim

Visited recently. Despite only having 1 chef working at the time the food was delivered quickly and was very good. I was served by Martin who was extremely polite and helpful.

Had Sunday roast here today, thought 15.99 for two dishes? But it was very good. Would definitely come back and eat here again.

Husband used to come here all the time as a child. Our first visit as a family, the service has been great! And the food hasn’t disappointed at all! So much for your money and decent quality. All plates cleared (which when you have a picky toddler is a massive accomplishment!) thank you! We will definitely be back!

Our food was not great, had a burger come out raw on the inside and then realised it was the wrong burger altogether! Sent it back and still was the same. Lauren our waitress was amazing, should be getting paid more for what she deals with. She is amazing!

Lauren, our server, did a really good job dealing with our food issues. We had an undercooked Mac n Cheese, incorrect burger (came out as beef burger when was meant to be chicken) missing multiple things off our meals. Meat was undercooked however again, our server Lauren, did a fantastic job dealing with the our issue and was incredibly professional. Pints were decent but even then, you can tell that the lines haven’t been cleaned recently (I also work in the hospitality industry). All round experience, not great. Very disappointed…

This was always a place to go for a cheap and cheerful dinner, nothing special just reasonable food at a cheap price, but the quality and service have dropped and now it’s just not worth the price, even though it’s still cheap, I suppose with rising prices somethings got to give, and they have chosen to drop the quality

Went for lunch at Liphook Hungry Horse today with my daughter and the staff were lovely. Polite, helpful and happy. Food was great. Will be back another day.

Sadly the meal took an hour and 10 minutes to come out and most of it was cold, the chips, my daughters pasta, when eventually the garlic bread had come out it was rock hard, they had cocked up my daughters skewers and she got some disgusting breaded chicken that looked awful, and one of the chicken winks was still pick in the middle how can that be when it took over an hour to come out. The amount of complaints that day would have been loads, whilst I get it was Mother’s Day but it didn’t seem that busy I’ve seen it a lot busier years ago and you have coped brilliantly! We cancelled the puddings as they never took our plates away and we didn’t want to wait another hour for them. Whilst I appreciate it may be new owners and you want to make the money on Mother’s Day may I suggest less quantity and make quality food as that was bloody awful and put a massive dampener on Mother’s Day!! Bearing in mind how bad the food was no apology no can we get you anything else nothing!

Went for a quick bite for lunch. New owners, so thought I would give it a go. Oh dear... nothing has changed, in fact it's worse! Beer barrels all over seating area, cases of drinks not put away and left in public seating. Nobody seemed to care. Zero effort made towards customers to make them feel welcome. Food nothing special. Will never be going back, felt like I needed to have a shower when I left. The worst "pub" I've been to.

Went there for a dinner and breakfast the past few days and both experiences were amazing, the staff were kind, very friendly and made sure we got everything quickly with a smile. The picture shows the breakfast burrito which is a full English in a burrito.

Cheap and cheerful for the whole family

Went here for my anniversary for a meal. Was such a great atmosphere, lovely staff, friendly and accommodating. The food was wonderful aswell will definately be coming back for his birthday 🤩

Very happy with our recent visit here for dinner and drinks. Lovely atmosphere and very attentive staff. Food was tasty and we stayed longer than planned as we had such a nice time! Keep it up guys, our new fave place to eat.

Called in for lunch today at 12.45pm Ordered within 10 minutes. Food finally arrived 1.33pm!! No apologise. It appeared that the waitress decided that as l didn't want chips to add 2 extra fried eggs. Thereby confusing the cook. Bar staff were clueless as to why we had to wait for the "extras"! No apologies again. Men's toilets were unsanitised. No soap and no locks on cubicles. Place has gone downhill rapidly and won't be visited by me again. Beware!!

The pub has a real friendly and welcoming atmosphere going on food was pipping hot and nicely cooked can't fault the service at all even though was a little busy staff was really helpful and friendly and fast landlord is a really nice down to earth guy will definitely be going back!

Welcomed as soon as we came through the door, lovely and clean, atmosphere is perfect, could sit at booths or tables, ordered at bar, food came out lovely and not a long wait, Hubby had one of the Super special breakfasts, definitely worth the money, so tasty. I had bacon butty, bacon was gorgeous and crispy! Perfect. Definitely recommend going here!

Visited this pub today. No fried food as both fryers were broken. Ordered a lasagna but it was not edible, dried up mince meat no pasta only mushy cheese on top. No wonder you have to pay up front so you can't refuse to pay for terribĺe food.Only one member of staff on acting as bar maid and waitress. Asked for J2o drink and was given a bottle so had to ask for a glass then I requested some ice. The glass was packed with ice so no room for drink Not a happy experience and feel robbed.

Katie and Martin were exceptionally helpful staff members. Our food arrived quickly and was extremely delicious (beef burger + mix it up). We’ve been loyal customers for over a decade here and it still remains as good as ever.

Went for some food with some friends and I must say what a lovely spot this is, friendly staff, welcoming locals and the food is spot on! Will definitely return.

I came here with my children brother, sister abd there children and partner on sunday 11th of February 2024 after hearing thatits now under new management and it didn't disappoint. Its so much better than the last few times I've been here. I used to be a regular and after sunday I think I will become a regular again. The staff couldn't do enough to help us especially as we have a few picky eaters. I had the gammon which was perfectly cooked my brother tried the jerk chicken and highly recommended it. We can't wait until our next visit.

Disappointing. The building (once a smart hotel and historic coaching inn) is now dilapidated and the garden, formerly pleasant with a kids' playground is now abandoned. The only real ale was Abbott of dubious quality and several items ordered from the menu were out of stock, necessitating repeat journeys between table and bar. The food was OK but it used to be much better. The service was good considering the obvious understaffing which left the bar unattended for lengthy periods. Some points too about the pub's admin: 1. The website shows all tables as unbookable. Several phone calls were unanswered so a 20 mile round trip was made to book the table. On arrival the booking had not been entered in the diary! 2. On arrival I looked at the menu which suggested ordering with the Greene King app. So I downloaded the app, connected to the pub's WiFi only for the app to repeatedly tell me there was no WiFi. 10 minutes wasted. Overall, my impression is of a business deliberately being wound down in preparation for sale to a property developer. I hope I'm wrong...

I decided to pop into the Anchor initially for a coffee but then decided on a full breakfast as well! (@11.30). Having not frequented the Anchor for a long time (based on previous experiences) I was pleasently surprised by the quality of the food and beverage offered (and less than a tenner!) The service was very good and it appears the new Manager has already made significant changes to improve the overall experience! Well done!

Lovely to come and visit The Anchor under new management. It’s definitely worth a visit so will be calling in again for sure. Will try the food next time.

We went to the Royal Anchor for a quick lunch on Wednesday afternoon, food was really good value for money and we were served by a lovely lady who I belive was called Carrie (possibly Kerry). Overal a very enjoyable experience and look forward to returning.

Hard working staff, whole place needs cleaning and decorating. Dont expect to drink my coffee out of a paper cup. Not good enough.

I have been using The Royal Anchor Pub for several years. I enjoy the laid back and comfortable atmosphere and have enjoyed several quiz nights. Kerry and the staff are welcoming and friendly. Great for a coffee, lunch or dinner with or without the family.

What a shocking experience at the Royal Anchor Liphook. We are used to their mediocre service but today was awful .Our food arrived with things missing that are clearly stated on the menu. Food arrived at different times and when we went to complain the waiter totally ignored us. Very rude. We had to wait for the long queue of people ordering before we could ask for our meals to be corrected at the counter.

So disappointed. Booked a table for Sunday lunch, on arrival told we couldn't order a roast for over an hour, so chose alternative meals. Had to wait for about an hour for our meals to arrive, and in the meantime people who arrived long after us were served Sunday roasts, which we had been told we could not order. It was so disappointing, watching people tuck into what looked like really good roasts, while we were still waiting for our 2nd choice of meals. Then to add insult to injury, they forgot our granddaughter's starter and desert, despite being asked twice. When they eventually arrived (after she had eaten her main), we had all lost interest. Maybe the chef didn't like us? Not good service that's for sure.

Unfortunately had a bad time. I came with a friend and was told I couldn't get anything with prosecco, such as one of the many spritz on their drink menu, because that would mean opening a bottle of prosecco, which is apparently not allowed. the barman was really rude and condescending about it and when I asked why it was in the menu he said it was old and he had no Idea what's on the menu. there was a 45m to 1h wait for food which is understandable on a busy weekend afternoon and we would have waited however due to the rudeness I felt really uncomfortable and wanted to leave. also the place where we were sitting smelled like piss.

Recently visited the pub and I must say since new management has taken over you can really see changes. The place is a lot cleaner and the staff seem happier. Overall great atmosphere and would defiantly recommend.

We came in for an evening meal and was not disappointed. The steak was cooked to perfection by thr chef and Martin (the staff member who served our food to us) could not do enough for us. He made us feel very welcome. We look forward to going back again soon. 😊

I come here often for both meals and at leisure. I must say that the most recent time I came to this pub I was delighted with the service by one of the bar staff Lauren. She was very friendly and helpful and made our night. I hope her managers give her the praise she deserves!!

Nice pub/restaurant, typical pub menu, good portion sizes and prices. Dog friendly area by the pool table. HUGE gardens and loads of outdoor picnic tables. Make sure you log your car reg at the bar or you'll get a fine from the parking company!

Claimed to be dog friendly, offhandedly pointed to one table where we could dine with our dogs, no other dog friendly tables in the dining area. Were not made to feel welcome at all. Salad served was inedible, dried cucumber, dried & wrinkled 2 pieces of tomatoes, salad leaves withered & brown. Big disappointment normally very happy with experiences at other Hungry Horse venues

We came here last year and it was very good. Just came here for lunch today and it was an awful experience. We were told that food was delayed so we waited as they were going to let us know when it was available. We heard nothing so went up to the bar to ask? As I went to the bar to ask I could see there was a big queue and people were ordering food. I asked why have you not said anything to us the reply was there now is a hour wait now!!! The most useless service and customer service I have experienced, would have assumed this pub has changed hands or staff. I will never go here again watch out people!!!

We usually like coming here for lunch and couple drinks before visiting old thorns . Today we visited and got in just before 12 the bar lady advised no food till 12 which is fine , we grabbed a drink and waited it got to 1230 she advised there was still no food yet and she'd let us know when.. so we waited again got another drink, more people began to arrive , so we went to order food again and advised will now be at least 1 hour wait.. so we ended up leaving and having to find somewhere else . Unfortunate as we always loved the service and food here

Got a parking ticket of £100 for having a half a pint parked for 40 minutes at 930pm at night. No signs were seen to indicate you cannot park there until you register. Certainly last time i will ever go to this pub. Just pure extortion

Nice pub/ restaurant environment, reasonably priced and fair quality food. Certain meals leave room for more flavour hence the 4 stars. All in all, a good place for a meal out.

Good cheap grub typical of this type of pub chain but served cheerfully and pretty quickly - avoid the ice cream !

Nice hotel / pub in the middle of Liphook, fit me pleasant and busy but not overcrowded, just the way I like it!

Okay fine dining it is not. But lunch, cheaply, with my two rowdy little boys? Perfect. The feed the family for £15 deal is ridiculous (in a good way). Service was excellent. Plenty of room so I didn't feel we were disturbing anyone. The pie meal (ale) is actually fantastic. Will definitely be back!

Second visit in a week, food and a beer. Service first class food brilliant, Jess/ Martin and Kerry polite and very helpful. Martin checked my food was ok and offered any assistance if needed. The food was not good. Mash +peas +pie just about warm. Roast dinner ok. Waited an hour for our food. I won't be coming back.

my family and I have been going to the royal anchor for my whole life. The staff are all such sweet, kind hearted people who always have a smile on their faces and the food is so good and nostalgic. This place is the way to go for any occasion and you are always guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face and your belly full. Special shoutout to Dan and Bex for taking care of us ♡♡♡

5 stars across the board. lovely pub however the stars are gained by this one bar staff in particular, she goes by the name jess and she truly brightens my wine wednesdays up. immaculate service (always with a touching smile). without jess i wouldn’t go to this pub she puts the royal in the royal anchor. my queen 👸🏿.

First impressions really good. The staff are professional, friendly and nice, customer service A+ The decor is modern, inviting and cosy. I like the nice touch of tellies on the side of the table to keep the kids entertained while you wait for your food. Yes the food, the food is really good. I had staek with onion rings very generous portions. If I could change something though, I'll do food meals with drink combo. Edit Service went downhill. Went there on the 30th of October 2023, ordered steak chips and some drinks. It took over 30 mins before I could make my order. To order, you have to go to the bar where there's only one staff and wait your turn. The food came but was under cooked , the stake tasted raw like blood, it seems like the meat was just heated on both sides and given to me. The server just threw the plate in front of me and barked at me to get my own cutleries and ketchup Tables were sticky very sticky and unwiped
