Amazing! Went out for the afternoon and found this wonderful pub. Karen served us with the most wonderful customer service. Nothing was too much trouble. She was brilliant with our children! Will definitely travel to this pub again! Really lovely service!

My family and I have been coming to The Royal Anchor for many years and often bring along visiting friends and family. We generally have good meals and friendly service here. Occasionally the availability of dishes can be hit and miss. We ask what’s not available when we come, although sometimes we find out something is unavailable after placing the order. Staff do try to help find a suitable alternative and are very apologetic when this is a case. Overall the food is worth the visit. Portions are quite decent.

Standard pub, clean and friendly.

Very good service. Very good price. Only down side was that the pie and mash. It only had approx 2 table spoons of mash and the pies meat wasn't soft it was chewy. The best value for money was the Ultimate big combo, this was a massive winner.

Visited on the 12/10 for a family meal to celebrate a birthday, we had pre-booked the table and received received an email confirmation of our booking. We were seated and then got moved as they had got us mixed up with another party even though we had repeatedly told them that was not us. We were moved to a table that did not sit all of us and that blocked a fire exit (health and safety issue!), despite the rest of the restaurant area being completely empty. We were told we had to order by half 5 at 20 past 5 when two members of our party had not arrived yet and we were a group of 12 which included two kids. We were told we had to order by this time due to the another large booking they had and only having one chef working who wasn't even a chef but the temporary manager apparently, In the end we had to leave as we were being rushed, we were sat blocking a fire exit and overall we felt like a burden. We then had to find somewhere else to have dinner which was not easy as a party our size needs booking in advance. Worst service ever. EDITED: Emailed manager as requested on the 21/10. Still no response.

Visited The Royal Anchor a few weeks back one Sunday evening for a quick dinner. Turkey roast dinner was very poor and gravy was inedible, Roast dinner arrived with turkey slice rather than roast turkey. The staff did replace the food with something different free of charge and after complaining via email to the manager we were fully refunded for the whole meal. Won’t be visiting this pub again but do appreciate the refund.

Been hear before but have seen huge changes. The manager Brad gave my amazing service, food and drinks where above what we expected. Would definitely recommend

New to the Liphook area & parked in the Royal Anchor car park for 42 mins, not realising it was chargeable. Have now received a £100 fine! Disgraceful. Great first impression Royal Anchor. Will avoid now & advise others to as well. If parking revenue is so important to your pub/hotel, just set up a parking machine for payment or set up a code entry system, not a camera that spies on everybody.

Coffee machine broken again!!!!, dirty cutlery again!!! Going downhill!

Good food, pleasant staff always willing to assist

We went for a late birthday meal for my sister and my niece ended up with food poisoning was ill all night don't recommend eating here gone down hill big time . Pls save self from getting food poisoning too x

Under staffed, broken glass washer to name s few things. Staff are friendly but they were run off their feet trying to serve people on a Sunday. It needs refurbishing, there’s a general out of date unclean feel to it. We ate there and the burger was cheap but the rest was ok. I wouldn’t rush back.

Staff are friendly and hardworking (Shona and her mom in particular). We are Wednesday night local regulars and only issue is how regularly items are "off". Be prepared to make a second choice. Good prices and er are up for curry Wednesday and wine Wednesday.

3 of us visited here , for Sunday lunch today , Was not impress , service was very poor , dinner was cold took a while before gravy arrived , which turned out to be extremely salty that we could not eat our roast , very disappointed , we did complain n was given free dessert , Such a shame was so looking forward to roast ,

Fabulous staff Very welcoming Came in today the 23/10/2024 with 2 wheelchair users, they were very welcoming towards us which is fabulous to see now a days definitely be recommending to everyone.

Cheap and cheerful, yes, but great if you don't fancy cooking! Steak and chips delicious, served quickly and staff reliably attentive. Kelvin, Kyle and Martin get the thumbs up. Best chips for miles and the restroom are beautifully clean 😊

Excellent local pub; food generous and delicious, great value for money. Staff always friendly; Martin went above and beyond to welcome and look after us. Thanks to Kyle behind the bar and Kelvin in the kitchen. Will definitely be coming back! Especially for the sizzlers and sticky toffee!

food was so dry, gravy salty, mash was microwave, carrots were solid, so was the green bean

Hi, very disappointed with the roast dinner today. V.salty gravy. Vegetables. V.hard. and cold. Meat dried up. The roasts used to be so good. We asked for hot puddings. Plates v. Cold. Custard. Tepid. My sponge was hot. But partners crumble. Ice cold in places. Staff are lovely. But the food let the place down.

Freya and Brad perfect hosts. One negative thing. Ask customers when they arrive to give vehicle details. It might be a large sign but when you are waiting for people you look away from the pub and not at the sign.

I just wanted to thank the staff at the Royal Anchor for a very pleasant lunch. Freya, Shona, and Brad, were very accommodating and the Food was great, (complements to Kyle the Chef), and served most promptly. This was very good value for money and I plan to return very soon. Martin.

What really upsets me is when dishes arrive missing key ingredients from what is advertised on the menu. Nothing is said before ordering, while ordering, after ordering or when the plate is finally delivered to the table. Then on realising (and attracting the server back to question it) being told "Oh. I think we've run out, I'll just go and check" Comes back and confirms that is the case. So my korean chicken burger is served with just the bbq sauce on it. No bed of lettuce, no sweet chilli coleslaw and no herb garnish. What planet do these people live on? If they cannot fulfil the dish as described then take it off sale. Of course there is no recourse because they take payment up front. How do these places actually keep going when they do not care? It is true that you get what you pay for. Edit: There is no point in sending you an email Brad, nothing will change and I will just be wasting my time. I am sure you were there so should be fully aware of what is going on (or not in this case) in your kitchen. The best thing Greene King could do is offload it to a company that actually understands the hospitality business.

Had a meal there recently with my family. The food was not at it's usual good standard. Added to this, was the fact that I then received a £100 parking fine for using their car park and not registering my car in the pub. I was totally unaware of this procedure . ROYAL ANCHOR, Please can you make clearer notices about this rip-off money making scheme to your customers. This could perhaps explain why the pub was practically empty on a Saturday lunchtime.

Prob the worse food I have ever eaten, shocking staff very rude. 2 roast beef dinners, well I must say. Would t feed it to the fixes, 4 tiny potatoes 2 small pieces of beef, hard mash potato, dry veg. Says it all really Used to be such a nice friendly pub with great food, never even again will we visit Used to always be packed and now hardly anyone in here should of given me a clue to be honest Staff hygiene, young girl on waiter service could do with a good wash.

Sunday was the worst experience I’ve had with a sorry excuse for a turkey roast dinner two thin slices of sandwich turkey and I think they were supposed to be cremated soggy roasted potatoes never again will I eat there

We ate here as a family of 6 it was really good, food was amazing. I loved my bacon burger and one of us had a steak medium done and that was awesome too! Kids desserts were free with their food too, really pleased overall will definitely come back!

Waited a long time for the worst food I've ever seen come out of a supposedly professional kitchen. We returned the food untouched and had to wait 15 minutes for the manager to "finish a phone call" and come and authorise the refund. I don't know if the chef was off and they had someone else covering the kitchen as I truly doubt a chef would have sent out the plates we received, If that is the work of their chef then they obviously don't know how to cook and haven't been trained and I'd avoid at all cost.

We used to take our grandaughters for lunch or dinner here about 15/16yrs ago.Delicious meals,pleasent decor,staff couldn`t do enough to ensure it was a great experience.Today(august 25th) we took our eldest son for sunday lunch.Boy what a change!!! Told 40 mins wait,ok we thought it would be worth it,how wrong we were.1&1/2hrs later the meals arrived and what a disappointment.Son`s and my beef could have soled shoes and 1 slice only,hubby`s turkey was turkey roll warmed up roast potatoes must have been cooked in the morning,veg was either cold or raw.Decor tired and scruffy,service soso.Before leaving my husband told the under manager how we felt about the meal,he didn`t want to know just gave a mental shrug.Needless to say we shan`t be returning.

Multiple issues with the food with things missing. No coleslaw no kofta no onion rings etc. When it turned up it was hot and well cooked but disappointed no jalapeños or spicy fries!! Shona was on her own behind the bar much of the time stretched to capacity but managed polite, hospitable and professional. If I had a vacancy I would employ her tomorrow.

Been here many times , sadly this time was awful. So much that was on the menu was not available because someone was on holiday. We had starters plates were not cleared before they brought the mains out , one starter was a sharing patter and there was not a lot for £10 half a garlic bread slice and 5 hollumi sticks , maybe it was because they did not have enough food to go around because a person was on holiday, they did not even have any bread to make a chicken sandwich come on guys really Sainsbury's is just up the road. Mixed grill they had no sausages and all looked lost on the plate . The chips that came out was fries not chips !! , had a pie which looked nice but pastry was rock hard with mash the mash looked awful and very dry so had to ask for gravey which you would have thought would have come with the meal , but the be fair the server did get some once being told we might not have any !! Pudding was a sorry state the brownie looked no bigger than a Cadbury chocolate finger !! I had the candy mania and shared it , I was bigging it up to be let down with not much candy and no cream . Sorry to be writing this but has a local person we won't be coming back until they have sorted staff out there . While waiting to pay we felt we was over looked and waited for ages while staff ate and had conversation with people at the bar .

Was told Mash potato only served Sundays even though it was listed as a choice on the kids menu ! Eventually given some but it looked like something you’d use to paste wallpaper with - thick and gloopy. She also tried to charge us an extra 99p for it !!! Was told No sausages available even though they are on the kids/adults menu ! Asked for rice with kids meal as it was on the kids menu . It was listed as sunshine rice so expected yellow rice which he would have eaten . However what appeared was yellow rice with cubes of carrot plus sweetcorn - neither of which he likes so he left it and had 4. Chicken nuggets only!!

We pre-booked a table for 8 to celebrate a birthday. Once there we ordered a round of drinks and set up a tab. We were told they didn't have any garlic bread or cauliflower cheese. We decided to order 1 burger, 2 steaks and five mixed grills, to be told they didn't have any steak. I asked to settle the bill and was told the burger was sent through to the kitchen and we could have it to take away. I asked why only one meal was sent through bearing in mind we were still discussing what to have instead of the chosen meals. She said she would take it off the bill and would tell the kitchen not to cook it. The staff were lovely, but looked and acted harassed although the restaurant/pub wasn't busy. I did have a concern over safety. A member of staff dropped a sauce which went all over the floor by the bar. I suggested she cleaned it up before serving me and I'd wait. She said she would do it later. I offered to clean the floor but she argued with me and said no. In the end after numerous times of offering she got some blue paper towel and cleaned it up. It wasn't the thought of the cleanliness, it was an accident waiting to happen with the sauce a slip hazzard as it was by the back entrance and along the bar.

Have been going here for years, always treated it as "you get what you pay for" and always been very pleased. This, however, was the third time in a row that I've visited and had the following problems: -Multiple menu items unavailable without a prior heads up -Tables not being cleared, dirty plates, cutlery and glasses littered the venue. Also tables that were clear of plates and glasses, weren't cleaned afterwards, many were covered in crumbs and liquids etc -Food not really up to standard (cremated burger bun, items inside the burger were different to what's on the menu and a portion of chips having mysterious burnt chunks in that weren't chips) The staff were all lovely as always, so would like to commend them on that, but they weren't really very attentive. For instance, none of the staff are bothered by clearing tables when you've finished eating and obviously nobody checked over our meals before bringing them out. We would have mentioned the food issues at the time, but didn't want to have to wait for replacements when we had already been waiting quite a while, and everyone else in our group was already eating.

The staff here can't do enough to be helpful. This incredibly historic place (Queen Victoria regularly stayed when en route London to Isle of Wight), is now bizarrely a budget Hungry horse pub from Greene King.
