The Golden Mile Country Inn in The Vale of Glamorgan

Terrible food, don’t bother if that is what you’re visiting for. The tiny roast pork portions did taste nice, but they were gone with two bites. The pork belly was rubbery and the texture was like rubber. Couldn’t eat the spuds as was swimming in some kind of watery sauce as you can see in the pic, looked like it has all been thrown on a plate without any care or attention. Overall an absolute disaster, and all for nearly 20 quid, absolute robbery. Don’t go there for food if you’re expecting much. This is a 2 star eatery at best. Server was apologetic and this review is no reflection on them.

First class service and food. Cannot be faulted. Location perfectly. Owner behind bar absolutely spot on. Toilets immaculate.

We went for our Anniversary lunch after a good experience a few years ago. Sadly, today was not a good experience. I had the pie of the day, chicken and mushroom and my husband had the curried chicken burger. The pie was quite tasty but the only pastry was a lid! No pastry whatsoever inside the pie so technically a casserole with a pie lid. Also, the sauce was very watery. Very disappointed. £17.50 for an almost pastry free pie!! The chicken burger was very nice, quite a small portion though. £16.95!! The chips could have been nice if they weren't so bity and hard, also I could taste fish on them so it seems as thought they are cooked in the same oil as the fish? Didn't really think a great deal of the service, our waitress was quite dismissive when I brought the above to her attention. Overall, incredibly over inflated prices for sub standard food. I will never return sadly!

Unfortunately there was a power cut just after we had ordered our food so we had to wait for that to be sorted, then wait for ovens to warm up again. Couldn’t be helped and staff were happy to serve drinks during that time. When food arrived it was delicious. Thank goodness we didn’t order dessert though as our waitress started cleaning and putting away the cutlery, I did wonder if someone had upset her as she was doing it with such a force that we had to leave our table and go into the adjoining bar/lounge to hear ourselves talk! Tbh it put a real dampener on the evening. Food was excellent so we did tip, but can’t say the same about the server.

We were a family of 3, myself Gran, my Son and his 26month old toddler. We arrived for lunch at about 1.15pm. I sensed trepidation from my son and the restaurant manager but I did not want us to eat in the bar by the big screen. I wanted a screen free lunch and saw no reason not to be seated in the bright airy restaurant which was sparsely occupied and child free at that time. Our little one, small as he is, is used to eating out and is developing good table manners because his parents insist that we interact as a family, talk quietly, put phones away, eat with good table manners and stay in our seats!. He was delighted to see the child friendly cutlery provided for him and settled into the trayless high chair. He even chose what he wanted from the child menu..fish and chips with baked beans. My son had the scampi and I went for the steak and ale pie. My pie was absolutely delicious, packed with melt in the mouth steak in lovely gravy under a shortcrust pastry top, homemade with care. The chips were tasty and good, dripping cooked homemade chips. The little one had no complaints and polished off his food cleanly using his cutlery. He loved having a pot of ketchup to dip in. He also moved some of his fathers scampi. The scampi was good too, served with the lovely chip tartare sauce and a whole half of lemon. The veg was nicely cooked green beans and tenderstem brocolli. We just had soft drinks. A really nice lunch for under £50. We sent back empty plates, left a tidy table and everybody happy. We will go there again . Works for us.

We have just had a meal for my birthday and it was all delicious 😋 I’m a cook myself so for food to be this good really impressed me, definitely be back soon.

Although not very full, it was quite noisy. The menu was difficult to read with the small print, and the low lighting. Not our type of venue to eat.

Friendly staff but when asked a bar staff member a question not that helpful as didn't know about party said just look around so she was busy so I understand but another lady came and look us upstairs were the party was we would not have known to look upstairs so would have left not seeing are family down stairs had a good time then

Went for lunch yesterday meal supposed to be served at 1pm delivered at 1.50 then another long wait for desserts plus no heating on had to put coat back on to eat

Partners burger, lovely! I got the beef casserole, which was a large lump of suet crust, with few bits of stewing steak n couple of sliced mushrooms in gravy which disappeared into the suet, making it very dry! Drinks expensive also! Staff lovely!

Love that they have a dog friendly area inside( and out). My dog loves that she gets a treat from staff. Food is good, smaller meals available. I went hungrey one Sunday and had a fabulous Sunday dinner! Take away available too

Dog friendly dining area, very pleasant and efficient staff, even providing and refilling dog water bowls. Food excellent, with good selection and price. Only negative was that the room was a bit gloomy, and carpets need replacing

Both meals were not nice. Chips looked a bit burnt and undercooked inside. my fish was mainly batter. Very expressive for poor quality. The young girl asked us what the meals were like we told her she apologised, not offered anything at all. Saturday 16th July about 12.30. Won't be returning!

Nice atmosphere, lovely home cooked food, good service. Even a Vegan option for our son. Drinks were a bit expensive but we will be back.

Lovely food , they also do a small plate menu if you don't have a large appetite. The downside it's the price of the drinks a Tonic water & Malibu & coke cost more than 1 meal . This really puts you off going back . Nice atmosphere & staff though.

We were staying in Hartlepool for a nice weekend away and visited the golden lion today for Sunday lunch, absolutely beautiful food, myself and my husband went for the topside of beef and it was cooked to perfection fresh vegetables and mint sauce, then we decided to have a dessert, blueberry and white chocolate cake and custard, out of this world, will certainly be back again, food was amazing the staff were amazing we highly recommend this place and it wasn't expensive either

We were there for my granddaughters wedding reception.Everything was very good. Service was brilliant the lady who was overseeing things was great nothing too much trouble. The buffet was excellent. The only minus was a strong smell of drains by the bar area otherwise all good.

Not had a meal there for a long time COVID etc but was always good, will try and get there soon. Call in for a beer with my mate on occasion, the real ales are always kept right which is a skill

Eat gluten free and they serve a good gluten free menu. The food is lovely and the staff are really friendly.

One of the best places for either breakfast, lunch or dinner in Hartlepool. Great breakfast, all four of us had a different dish and all looked appetizing and tasted great. No complaints here.

New staff are efficient at the bar, but the new chef in the kitchen was sending out smoke signals to the Apaches when we arrived

Wow, this place has nosed dived in terms of the service. Staff are surly to the point of insolence. This place used to be good food and service, not anymore sadly.

Foods good, nice atmosphere, great through the day for older groups of people for breakfast and lunch.. Could do with a bit of a renovation in ladies toilets.

We hadn't been here since well before the start of the pandemic, it hasn't changed a bit. We had lunch, I had the calfs liver, my wife had the gammon. The liver was OK, nothing to shout about, and the gammon was very, very salty. The toilets were in the same condition as pre covid, always wet floors and smelly. Overall this wouldn't be our first choice for lunch/evening meal.

Food is lovely but the drinks are a bit pricey.

A group of 10 friends had a great meal, with good service, and nice food. The staff were friendly and the prices reasonable.

Food is good quality, love to see more craft ales on, the staff are always so lovely. They absolutely know how to make you feel welcome which is worth its weight in gold for repeat business, look after customers and they'll look after you. Keep up the great work guys.

I can’t rate this place highly recommend enough; the staff are a great bunch, there’s a good selection of beers, spirits and wines and the food is second to none; try the rolled belly pork with black pudding mash you’ll thank me later (unless you’re a veggie but don’t worry - they’ve got your back there too... the home made spicy bean burger is epic!).

Just visited the Golden Lion and had a Chicken Parmo and a pint of beer. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were friendly and courteous. Highly recommended.

The staff are so lovely, always pleasant even in these difficult times. No matter what, they maintain a professional and customer focussed disposition which is the recipe to get returning customers time and time again, well done to you all.

Had a great day. The Golden Lion had good social spacing, the garden is laid out very nicely and that made it a relaxing afternoon. The food was lovely, my wife who seemed to have chosen the best meal of all had the Hartlepool Cod which she said was cooked perfectly. The lagers we had were spot on and so everything was perfect. The Lady who dealt with our table service was very young and yet was professional, very courteous, well organised and efficient. I would go back for another afternoon like this in an instant! Thanks, Golden Lion, for a lovely afternoon.

Simply outstanding. Lovely to be back and had a superb meal. Felt very welcome and Covid safe and that’s down to Simon and great staff. Hopefully see you all soon but many Thanks for a lovely visit !!!!

Absolutely fantastic. Felt very safe, social distancing adhered to at all times, staff courteous and masked constantly. Food was lovely. Slightly expensive but worth it and value for money considering I couldn't eat everything. Lady offered to box up leftovers before I asked.
