what a fantastic breakfast for the price with unlimited make your own toast and coffee, great friendly staff presence i would definitely recommend this to all locals and visitors to the area I also want to say compliments to all the staff who run this and especially the kitchen staff as the breakfast was cooked to an excellent standard and served to us with a smile. thankyou so much for a pleasant morning regards george marston

We ordered an Indian takeaway which was fairly priced and was cooked and delivered quickly. The food was excellent and we will certainly eat here again.

Came here with a few friends on a Friday night and absolutely enjoyed it, the atmosphere was great. Also the new menu they have brought out is really good (Indian cuisine)

Have been here for carvery past few Sundays, really enjoyed it . Had strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake recommended by Danielle bar staff delicious 😋.will definitely be back

Was a last minute decision my husband died and we just came from cremation we all wanted a spot to eat and a beverage so we all decided to pop to golden lion as not to far we walked in was greated by a great smile from the ladle behind bar who showed us to a little part of the pub which we had to ourselves there was about 20 of us and she was working alone but that was not a problem nothing was to much trouble for her which I found out her name was Nikki took all our food orders drinks kept asking if everything was ok food came out hot and all together to what a great team and lovely pub which made my husbands send of even better Thankyou Nikki and golden lion

I will definitely come back! They serve delicious food and Tony the waitress is always happy to help make our experience a good one, an overall great pub!

We were a party of 5 adults and 3 children. Manager kindly sent me a menu in advance and set the table for my dad in his wheelchair. All staff were friendly. Food came promptly without being rushed and was reasonably priced. Pleasant family lunch.

We had a kids party for 13 kids and 15 adults couldnt fault the staff very helpful The food was excellent, kids meals All served at the same time, same with the adults We did preorder the meals, and everything was just as ordered Defo using this place again We all had a fab night out A big thanks to the staff

Came 4 a big family meal for my grandads 79th birthday. We all ordered our food by our table numbers. Staff didn't even know which tables the food was for, messed our orders up. Said we had something when we hadn't, manger just had attitude with us. Bad mouthing us 2 other staff and regular staff where we could hear. Saying we didn't know what we all orderd and we all perfectic. It's disgusting and not organised at all. Never had many problems before just small so not complained. But today was terrible, young man they served us our meals was rushed off his feet. No help at all, did have any Pepsi or come had 2 go shop n buy cans of pop. No crisps or peanuts when we asked as we arrived at 1pm. Food wasnt the best. Manger is a disgrace arguing with my 16 year niece saying she had pudding and she hadn't. Personally I wouldn't come 4 food here again service n staff terrible.

Food is excellent value for money. A great selection to choose from. Large portions so if you're on a diet probably best to go on a 'cheat day'. Staff very attentive. Free Mothers Day Bubbles was a nice surprise.

The Golden Lion is easy to relax in, very child friendly, Staff are friendly, Service is good and the Steak is 1 of the best i have tasted.

Nunca he conocido un pub tener terrible falta de servicio! Entré y porque estaba tan tranquilo, no estaba segura de si estaba abierto, teniendo en cuenta que era justo después de comer. Estuvimos en el bar por aproximadamente 5 a 10 minutos y nadie vino para servir, así que pensé que debe ser permanente en el lado equivocado, así que caminé hasta el otro lado de la barra, y todavía no hay personal? Por último otro 5 minutos más tarde, una mujer iba a través de la trasera, completamente ignorado incluso yo estaba allí, y estaba gritando a otra señora por la parte trasera de nuevo sobre su descuento." 2 minutos más tarde en el jaleo aún después de la fecha aún no ha sido reconocido incluso. Yet again we had a lovely meal. All cooked perfect and always fresh ingredients and always piping hot. So nice to have a descent salad that you can tell as just been prepared. Never had a bad meal here. As a vegetarian there is a really good choice for starters',mains+ desserts. The house wine is not bad either. Thursday night is quiz night again. There's a nice atmosphere and its a good night out.

A great little local pub, vibrant for a midweek evening and very cheap in comparison to pubs elsewhere in the city. Highly recommended.

I haven't been here for years and decided to pop in. We ordered our drinks and my cider was so flat that even after changing it was still flat. We ordered the steak and scampi ultimate meal with free desert for £9.79 each. I wanted my steak well done my friend wanted medium. Both arrived and looked as though it had been cremated. Desserts arrived and they were ok although my chocolate fudge was a little hard possible stale. Would we visit again, not likely!!!!

My family and I had our evening meal here yesterday.....and was pleasantly surprised. I drive past it everyday...yet never been in!First impressions...how clean the tables were and carpets underneath! The pub wasn't busy but started to get a little as time went on. Staff were friendly and quick to show me their loyalty system they have there. Food was great and quick to arrive...my lads enjoyed their meals and no one complained. A great find and a great price. Recommend a visit!!

Really nice pub, the main course meals are really nice though the deserts are sometimes "not defrosted" so you can't order them!Nevertheless, I like how there is plenty of seating well away from the main bar for quiet meals and the staff are always really nice and friendly.

Friendly staff, always greeting when walk in, nice friendly pub, food great, great prices! Had a lovely time at Christmas party kids loved it! Went In for a meal other day there was carol singers, lovely getting all us in the Christmas mood! Overall a great pub would recommend I've now be one a regular !

Absolutely astonishing how this pub has turned around! Such a lovely place to chill and have a drink with friends and family and the food is amazing! Nice and cheap too! Just under £10 for 3 double vodkas and red bulls! The jukebox gives the pub such a great atmosphere on a weekend also will definitely be visiting here again more regularly! My new fave local!!

Stopped off here for breakfast on the way from Middlesbrough for the Wolves match. Opens early, we ate at 11am. Standard breakfast for £2.49 was excellent and the "sizzler" for £4.29 enormous, + unlimited tea or coffee for £1. So impressed we ended up leaving the car there and walking 20 minutes to the ground so that we could walk back for a meal after the game. Again good selection of food at a very reasonable price. Friendly staff and a comfortable atmosphere. Will definitely use again when going to away matches in the area.

I popped in this pub on a sunday afternoon after fancying a change from the normal of popping down the local.as soon as I stepped in the place there was a warm welcome feeling, and a very vibrant atmoshphere. I fancied something to eat and went for the chicken combination at about £8 which consisted of chicken goujons, chicken wings and a half a chicken, and was very filling and cooked about right, coupled with discounted priced beer, i'm very glad I gave the place a go and will do again.

While it is a nice pub for the local to have a drink, i dont rate it at all as a food establishment. It was burnt, near impossible to chew or swallow and completely lacking in taste. Preeious visits were not great but sufficient enough to use as a local place to go and eat. It will not happen again.

I live quite local but have not visited this place before due to reputation. What an eye opener! It was busy, I think with locals as they all appeared to know each other but it had a very relaxed atmosphere. It was a warm bank holiday so as I said very busy. They had a children's entertainer and football on for the big boys so everyone in our group was happy. The food was good and the service was excellent. We went out for a quick meal and stayed 4 hours. We had a great time with the "locals" and staff. This is a great friendly place we will definitely visit again..........and if I hear another scary story about the pubs reputation I will have to correct them. Hence this review

Me and my partner at here last month, it's a nice little pub but the food is terrible, everything either burnt or dry, I had a pie that looked and tasted stale with horrible lumpy instant mash, it was like wallpaper paste, and my gravy was like water. Was very disappointed because neither of us ate out food, what a waste!

Been a while since I've been to the golden lion and I must say I had a great time! Lovely staff always ready to help. Food brill and lovely happy atmosphere! I'll be back!

what can i say, this is one of those 2 for a tenner type menus, in a busy pub showing lots of live sports and really busy on match days, but the menu has a good selection and there King Size mixed grill is excellent value and stuff full of a massive 28 oz of meat, and is cooked to perfection every time, im lucky i get to eat here fairly often and enjoy the atmosphere and the service levels are very good with polite and knowledgeable staff

The pub could do with a refurbishment, the steak was nice, but the salad was cheap, droopy and wasn't fresh. The price was good value and the service was great. Would go there again, but not for a special occasion.

Lovely pub, AWFUL food.I decided to go with my partner for some food, after three years of avoiding the place after a terrible food experience. I was let down yet again, it was tuesday which is curry night, so I opted for a beef masala. I was presented with lukewarm, flavourless curry, hard, stale, instant pilau rice and a Naan the size of my eyeball. The entire portion size was pathetic and would have been more fitting for a five year old, and the entire meal was BLATANTLY a frozen ready meal, even though the price of £5.99 includes a drink I was still utterly disgusted. Onto my partners meal, he opted for the mixed grill, something which we both usually adore in other sizzling pubs - His two TINY baked potatoes had been so nuked in a microwave that they were inedible, my partner was unable to even pierce them with a fork, his egg was cold and, to me, the sausages looked anemic. I for one will NOT be eating here again!

Always get what you pay for, cheap and cheerful. Extensive menu, very good choice. Best pint of carling in the area.
