What a pleasant lunch!! Came in today for the first time with my sisters, we were served by a lovely girl with dark hair. The food was very enjoyable and the service we received was excellent! We will be back, thank you.

I don’t understand what’s happened to this place go every Tuesday and the past couple of weeks the food has been awful popped in Sunday for carvery and that was worse don’t know what’s happened to the staff here won’t be returning this place needs a huge turnaround

Booked to have Sunday lunch today 1/9/24 & must say the food was awful All the veg ,Potatoes, were all dried up & the roast potatoes were burnt & rock hard The meat was ok but nothing special Not Cheap Not enjoyable Wont be visiting again for food

Great food experience. It starts with being able to simply book online and once we arrived we were looked after expertly. Drinks on offer is fantastic, and the food choice is great. We opted for carvery (as it was sunday) and it did not disappoint. I would advise booking as it gets busy! Staff were wonderful and very friendly. We stayed much longer than expected, as the football was on! We will definitely return. We may even be your new regulars!!

Great food, I had Surf & Turf, scampi cooked perfect, steak was Medium rare again perfect, the Castle Inn must cook the best chips locally, my Wife had kebab which she loved. Will definitely visit again. Sport type pub so if your into sport snd great food. This is definitely a great pub choice. I don’t normally go local, usually prefer country pubs, this pub, however, draws me to it for the great service and excellent food.

Staff to busy talking to each other. Ordered steak couldnt eat all fatty and tough was served in a bowl crazy bowl full of greasy water complained said would change the medium steak but said no to medium well was told what do yo expect I said it's not edible only then tool away and replaced with still below standard steak. No apology at all. Plus didn't come out with steak knives they are kept near door in cutlery tray unbelievable no thought for health and safety. Used to go regularly when Andy and his family run it and great food and service. This is now somewhere we would never go again. Female staff more bothered about each other than the paying customers. Don't bother with your apology now should have been done when complaining. AVOID.

We made 2 separate food orders, seconds apart, for the same table. (Please note we ordered both lots of food from the same member of staff and made it very clear we were all together at one table). Half the food came out fairly quickly, however, by the time half the party had finished eating, there was still no sign of the rest of the food. A young girl came round by the table, and I asked her what was going on as we had only recieved half of our food. She waved her hand at me and said "yeah well, take it up with the boss", and walked away! Another member of staff then came straight over and her attitude was pretty much "do you want the food or not!" We stated that we would like the food as we had a 7 year old child waiting to eat, but under the circumstances, we would appreciate a round of drinks on the house for the inconvenience caused to us. I was then told I was extremely rude to ask for this! At this point, a male member of staff approached us and proceeded to blame us for the issue for putting 2 separate orders in and not ordering all together! We asked for the manager, to be told by 2 different staff members that he wasn't in the building, which I've found out not to be true! Please note, they also delete any negative feedback from their social media. I've also now been blocked from their social media page for letting them know the issues I had in their pub last night! Absolute amateurs! Get some polite, customer focused, professional staff in your establishment! EDIT...despite the generic response to this review by the "owner", the actual owner has responded to one of my social media comments basically calling me a liar and stating that I was the problem! Avoid at all costs! Please also note the pictures of the far from professional responses myself and another member of my party received from the manager, who has admitted he was in the pub and couldn't have given a hoot about the low standard service we received from his staff We did not stay for the entertainment, nor get up and dance, nor did we order desserts, bunch of bare faced liars

Popped in for a swift one mainly for a trip down memory lane. This place has changed a bit over the years, it's open, bright and airy. Reasonably priced drinks (didn't eat so can't comment) and although not served with a smile a decent drink of Banks's mild. Disgusting behaviour from pub staff when our party only received half the food ordered, we were met with comments such as "yeah yeah, take it up with the boss", and "what do you want us to do about it" Vile attitudes from people who should not be working in hospitality!

Very friendly and super fast staff

We popped in for food on the off chance as we had never been in before. The food was beautiful and the two ladies behind the bar was very friendly and interacted with my 5year old making him laugh. We will defo be going back.

Come here every week, brilliant service with a smile makes my day every time I come in but i do have my fav staff Amy,Roxy & Fran always go out there way for everyone they need a raise ♥️

Really good weekend spent in the Castle. Really accommodating the staff and management . Pom is a great host Amy and Roxy were great craic , food was lovely and a really good pint Will be returning for sure

Ive been to the castle alot of times now since it's been taken over and the new staff are wonderful they cater to my every needs and my childrens fussy eating. We usually dine on a Sunday and often go on for drinks with my partner for the entertainment on a Saturday night and the girls behind the bar are fantastic workers and a barrell of laughs the atmosphere is up there. Well done to the new owner and his gang.

Staff are rude towards customers who aren’t regulars. They sit around laughing and shouting with each other. Dressed inappropriately in very revealing clothing and look unhygienic. The cutlery had dried food all over them and was extremely dirty. Food was not to a very good standard, we had the carvery and unfortunately the beef was not edible and tasted off, the potatoes were swimming in grease and was all over the plate. When informing staff they did not care, we weren’t even given an apology. Since The castle has changed hands to the staff and owner from The navigation it has gone extremely down hill and in need of some retraining of staff standards and some new chefs.

Not eaten in there, so I am unable to comment about the food. However, the place is Fantastic staff are fab the whole atmosphere is perfect. Most of all I love the fact there is always entertainment on ar weekends this is a bonus

We go to The Castle for sunday carvery every week and we have never had a disappointing meal. The food is so delicious. Staff are very friendly.

Visited the castle on Saturday with my two friends and daughter, and from the moment we walked in were treated by the loveliest friendliest bar staff I have ever met. Abie and the lovely young gentleman behind the bar, were so helpful and caring, and made us the best cocktails ever. The food was plentiful, hot and tasty. The lovely Abie even presented me with a birthday cake, and a round of shots, which we all thought was such a lovely thing to do. Would thoroughly recommend the Castle pub for a warm relaxing and friendly night out

We visited for the 1st time yesterday, we are new to the area and decided to try the carvery which was very nice indeed. Wasn’t too busy either and staff were friendly. Will visit again

Mothers day meal My sister booked sausage mash Hers was ok I ordered scampi chips mushy peas Member of staff come to say They have no mushy peas The scampi come out burnt Ten pieces when i should have had 12 My son had cheeseburger meal Half way through the burger It was raw and i mean raw Called the young lad over behind The bar he shook his head in disgust And said i will get u another one sorted My older son had carvery After seeing my sons burger completely put us off Our meals not going to lie I got a refund for the burger meal And was offered puddings drinks We declined One thing i will say when Tracie & pete had the pub The food come out piping hot And 100% cooked Oh the manager tried to say Thats how the burgers come When cooked And theyve had a lot of burgers Come back Maybe u need to buy a probe To check to see if food is cooked Before you send it out In future I will not be eating here again Thats a fact

Lovely food and staff very attentive,Abby was so kind and helpful, music good karaoke too. A massive thank you to staff for the birthday cake that they gave my friend,we felt so welcomed and didn't want to leave.

Food was amazing. Shamefully the heating was broken and therefore the place was being heated via other rather loud equipment. Would recommend when that's fixed

First time back since April 2023. Wow what an improvement. Exception service and all happy and more then happy to help. The carvery was fantastic, the variety Is outstanding, presentation also fantastic. Absolutely enjoyed. It's clearly to see the cook puts her heart and soul in to every dish. A chef came along and gave my grandson a balloon and crayons with puzzles which his face lit up and promised to bring a lollypop if he eat well. Such a great incentive and much thought gone in to make children welcome. We wouldn't normally stay out as long as we did. As he was occupied. We stayed for extra drinks and deserts. Our experience was like nowhere else I've been before. We will most certainly be making it our regular Sunday lunch place to be. I highly recommend it. For the moment we arrived to our good byes at the door was the best. It's most definitely a hidden gem.

Popped in for an evening meal around 6.30pm a little Quiet in there, Good service. But got to say the Food was Fantastic so Credit where Credit is Due 👍🏻

Had a lovely meal here last night. Doesn't come across as your standard pub meal - staff clearly take pride in their presentation. Not long after there was entertainment on just left everyone with a feel good vibe! Definitely be back again!

Absolutely awful meal, the burger tasted like it had been boiled. It just disintegrated on the plate. Will never eat there again!

Went tonight for a much needed after work drink. Great service to start and great portion of fries although absolute lack of bar snacks was concerning as no nuts or crisps and Xmas was not a great reason. After 530pm things were shocking, 1 poor member of team, large queue for service and such poor customer service which was not fault of 1 team member. No sign of help until man came in and served in hat and coat to people who hadn't been waiting as long. Understand budgets need to be hit but level of service made me leave early and could have spent more time and money there If staffing levels weren't so low

Been to the castle on number of occasions, this last was the worst, entered and were told our reserved table was that one in the corner, not taken to table, waitress looked school age, two members had carvery which in there words was rubbish, 3 others had menu meals which were adequate, service crap, pricing, overpriced, food, back street cafe at best, atmosphere, dead, will not be returning,

Been to the castle quite alot& everytime has been so pleasant. Lovely pub, great food, hard working staff that go above&beyond constantly checking everything is okay with food/drinks. Big up Andy the manger behide the bar always a vibe with customers.

Never had a bad experience here. Fantastic staff in Abby and Andy who I’ve seen the most always there if you need anything at all. Great atmosphere and always enjoy the food too.

Such a warm and welcoming place to go. The food is always good and the staff will always make you feel welcome and will go above and beyond to help you with any request. Abby and Andy who run the pub are brilliant and always working very hard. Abby is so good with my kids when they have been in there.

Had our Daughter's Wedding Reception here. Had a brilliant time, everyone enjoyed themselves. Anna and her team laid on a hot and cold buffet. The drinks were flowing and the staff were helpful with all our needs. They even have a DJ on in the evening (we were there on a Saturday) so we were treated to entertainment. Well done The Castle you made our Daughters Day complete.

Arrived for Sunday Lunch which is a carvery . We have eaten here for about a year . This time we knew something was wrong , went to the bar to order drinks and food . No draft pop , so can of pop for my partner , was given a dirty glass with lipstick all around it . I ordered water , no sparkling or still , asked if they got anything except pop she said soda water , again served in a dirty glass . She changed both glasses but the same thing happened again , dirty glasses ! We then went to the carvery , which looked ok , the cauliflower cheese was just sauce , the potatoes are frozen variety . The worse was to come when we started to eat , it was cold ! The Turkey was cold as well as the beef . The Yorkshire puddings was stone cold and they was served from the top of the hot plate . Why? The only thing that was warm was the stuffing , so we decided to take it to the bar we’re I was greeted by a chef who I asked her to touch the meat and the Yorkshire pudding to see how cold it all was , her reaction was yes , shall I microwave it for you ! I refused as you served me cold food , which should be served at a certain temperature… both meals ruined , not dealt with professionally, they refunded our meals , and I said what about the Pepsi .. he asked is there something wrong with it .. I said yes no food . After having dirty glasses and cold food you seriously was not going to refund me for the whole meal . The hygiene and food control is so bad , I am surprised they are open . I was then told by a customer that it had got a new manager and how bad it has become . Shame as we have been coming for a year .. never again .

Popped in on Saturday for food and the service was quick and friendly, decided to come back the next day and have carvery it was amazing

Well what can I say! How different is it since a change of management! 4 adults 2 kids. Chicken burger, asked for side salad …… expected more than 1 slice of onion, 3 carrot batons, and 2 slices of “not fresh “ iceberg. It looked that bad that the waitress looked embarrassed. No vegan options for dessert Kids lolly’s were apparently all frozen together solid due to previous manager unplugging the freezer. Now I question the level of food hygiene here, it’s been 4 weeks since the take over and it takes till today for them to notice that there is still food in the freezer that has obviously been defrosted & refrozen!!!! Finally In replaced for the lolly they gave the 5 year old ice cream, 1/4 of the way through we found that the glass was cracked, chipped & broken. ON A KIDS DESSERT !!!! Unfortunately we did at this point decide to complain, the manager wasn’t available, but the assistant went to investigate & came back with a refund for the “side salad” & 2 kids pudding and the caveat of “will sort you out if you come back next week” Due to food hygiene concerns we will not be returning.

Had a family meal here for our Anniversary It was a little quiet when we visited this time round . The staff are all friendly and serve you with a smile, they made our disabled grandson really welcome.

Booked a table for the Wednesday night cavery only to be told when we got there they are no longer doing carvery on a Wednesday night was so disappointing thought we would give them a try under the new management in my opinion they should have put something up on there website to say they were no longer doing them on a Wednesday night everything these days is about word of mouth so unfortunately I won't be recommending the castle

We visited last Wednesday as a family and were surprised to see a mid week carvery. They had a choice of 3 meats turkey beef and gammon and plenty choice of veg. I opted for Beef and Gammon and was certainly not disappointed. The veg was so fresh and soft and we were given a small bowl to share the veg with our little one. The carvery chef was so happy and smiling it was a pleasure to see a great work atmosphere. Will definitely come back to try carvery on a Sunday as we heard everyone on about the chefs Dauphinoise potato's that are only on Sundays.

Have visited here numerous times over the last couple of years and always had a really good time. Unfortunately when we visited for Father's day we were really disappointed, carvery was really poor, you were left waiting for veg to appear, some was cold . Some of my family ordered food from the menu, this took almost 30 min to appear (although I was informed their food was good). I know Tracey has not long taken over the reins here and she seems to be struggling for staff, so I don't want to be too hard on her. We will return again and hopefully it will be back to it's normal standard.

Came in Saturday night for a late dinner and karaoke and cant say i was dissapointed. Food was spot on even though the kitchen was closing soon, and the pub itself just had a warm welcoming feel with the landlady always floating around getting to know everyone. Reminds me of how local pubs used to be.

Came here for carvery with my grandson last weekend loved the new family feel to the place and the new owners are so welcoming. My grandson was so excited with the bouncy castle and the carvery was to die for, even went up for second helping of veg. Will definitely be returning again.

Been twice since the new owners have taken over, the carvery is amazing especially the added touch of the dauphinoise potatoes its nice to see on a carvery. Alcohol pitchers are generously priced and great to enjoy outside while the little ones play. Food in the week its always spit on the pulled pork burger being my favourite.

Worst carvery I've ever eaten. Beef was hard and chewy. Vegetables was hard and undercooked. Mash wasnt mashed properly, with big lumps of potato still left in it. Stuffing was like sawdust. Gravy was watery. Never returning again.

Just had a wake here, Great service with the new manager, Tracey. Did the food for the buffet which was excellent, so much to choose from hot and cold. Also was a lovely dessert table too. Would defiantly recommend, nothing was too much trouble. Love the Maiden Family

Lovely family run business who have a sense of humour whilst they work in a very busy environment. We booked a carvery and wasn't disappointed. Sat in a quieter alcove away from children and football. Excellent meal with plenty of choice of fresh meat and vegetables. Checked on us to make sure we were OK. Desert was very tasty. Real ale on tap.

As always 5 star beer and entertainment always on point. Staff are always on point too. So all in all second to none ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As always our time at the castle was a lovely experience. As it was Mother’s Day it was busier which is to be expected. Even with this the food was fantastic and service as always was amazing by such wonderful staff.
