The Golden Horse in Portsmouth

The food was inedible. There was so much oil and grease in the b b q sauce it was 1 cm layer on the top, the spare ribs looked like they had been deep fat fried, the chicken fried rice was soggy , like porridge consistency and full of oil. Random bits of chicken and vegetables were on top The only thing that was edible was the small bag of prawn crackers. This was purchased Tuesday evening , around 9.50pm. Then 24 hrs later . Chronic diarrhoea and nausea. £17, I paid for this rubbish it's utterly disgusting.

worst Chinese food I have ever had.

Easily the worst food we have ever had… nobody ate it. Every dish was foul!! Chicken balls were like donut batter and burnt , pancake roll just ooozed grease. Salt and pepper chips were still frozen, and crispy chilli beef…. Eew no idea what even that was… so disappointed. Delivered and binned witin 10 mins!!!!

We have had several deliveries from the Golden Horse . Always quick very pleasant gentleman seems to always deliver . Great food , haven't had a bad meal yet and we've tried various dishes .

ordered 2 sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style and got two tubs with what seemed more like 1 serving split between two tubs. quite disappointed 😞 usually love this place

mushroom chow mein was superb, burrito sized spring roll was brilliant and lady was rlly nice and also asked if i was vegan!! solid.

Always a risk ordering from a new takeaway but I am astounded at how nice this is!

Ordered from JustEat and you’d think it was a different restaurant compared to these reviews. Really tasty, packed full of flavour and with a nice kick. Crispiest salt and pepper tofu & chips we’ve had. I ordered the Malaysian Hofun which didn’t have a description but it was Fantastic; a thin wide noodle in a chow mein style.

Really kind lady but the food was really bad. Cheap fatty meat,super seeet sauce like syrup. The rice was the worst it was soggy and stodgy but more than anything just plain bland. Sad to say this because the owner was really friendly and kind but the food was poor.

The food was awful, we ordered a house special chow mein and a beef curry with egg fried rice, it's clear who ever cooked this meal cannot cook ! it was the worst takeaway we'd ever ordered, I wish we had taken pictures but even then it wouldn't describe what we were given, no flavour, no spice in the curry, stodge for egg fried rice, noodles swimming around in water was the chow mein with a meat which was impossible to identify, I can only suggest you avoid if you want a good chinese meal because this isn't it.

Women at the desk is lovely but the food is terrible I've now got a bad stomach I threw half in the bin it literally had no flavour asked for it spicy wasn't one bit spicy that pictured meant to be a chicken chow mein was looking forward to it aswell as the food is very cheap compared to other Chineses.

We've had several meals from this establishment and can safely say I've never had a bad meal.Well recommended by me.

Delicious food and fantastic service

Fried rice came with water which made it taste soggy, never had deep fried spare ribs before - they tasted ok but really not what I was expecting or ordered and even though we spent over the amount needed, we didn’t get any of the free offer items. Always seems to be the same with this place - a couple really good dishes and a couple meh dishes.

Worst Chinese I have ever had! Wish I had read reviews before ordering! Will not be coming here again. Wish I could put zero star! Staff are rude on the phone laughed when we complained!

£23 for a meal that I wouldn’t feed to my dog! Absolutely shocking greasy horrible tasteless rubbish. Would not recommend to the local zoo let alone any human being… just don’t order from them as you will be disappointed

While the delivery was on time, it way by quite a wide margin, the worst Chinese takeaway i have ever had, the dumplings tasted awful and looked like they were made by a 5 year old, and the rice was overcooked and tasted foul to the point i had to spit it out or throw up, will never order from here again

Friendly, quick, tasty need I say more?

Mostly a great meal. Only down side was the rice noodles seem to have been boiled to death and were stodgy and clumped together. The satay was great and so was the soup

The food was barely warm. There was hardly any black bean sauce and the sauce was very greasy and tasteless. Spring roll not edible at all. The chicken balls were mainly batter and very greasy. The only nice part was the rice. Threw it in the bin.

First time ordering from this restaurant and was a bit worried after reading the reviews. But wow the food arrived hot and fresh, it was very tasty. The chilli beef was to die for the sauce i could of just had a whole tub of to dip my chips in tbh. Will 100% be using again.

The food quality for what we had was excellent but the Chicken Chow Mein was a bit bland. We would order a different Chow Mein next time.

Food was inedible, chicken balls has black bits in them, sweet n sour sauce was like pure vinegar, Thai green curry looked like something from a babies nappy with hardly any chicken, black bean beef was slimey! All went straight in the bin! Wish we read the reviews first!

The food was ok but the egg fried rice was very greasy that the grease leaked in the bag. It was not very nice at all. But the crispy shredded beef and squid are nice.

Crispy shredded beef was not crispy, it was very soft and chewy. The S&S pork was very crispy and was marinated in the sauce. The spring roll was really greasy.

Oily greasy mush. Can’t fault the speed or service but the food was slop.

This is the worst Chinese food EVER. The chips the soft on the outside and rock hard in the middle. The curry sauce was a darker brown than gravy and LITERALLY had no curry taste at ALL. The beef in blAck bean sauce dish had practically no taste at all. DREADFUL RESTAURANT

I'm sorry to say that we couldn't eat much of it. Every dish was really greasy even the rice which was also burnt. I don't like giving bad reviews but there was nothing pleasant about the meal.

Late food. Missing items and rude staff. Don’t use them.!

Despite having a low score on google reviews, we decided to order from them. Wow! Quickly realized why they have low scores. They could not take my card details correctly which resulted in the transaction being declined, they then said they would not try again as they were busy and had better things to do, they said they'd already wasted enough time on my order... just wow! Terrible customer service. I'll be going back to my regular, Fortune House.

Its winter and cold but two out of three dishes were barely warm. The delivery man was dressed in appropriate ppe and took care with his interaction. A major plus for me.

The food is not bad. I would however not recommend the chicken fried rice. The price, quantity ratio is not the really good. Try the squid whilr you're at it.

I am not picky with food, so I don't write reviews often, and I appreciated that there was a restaurant open after 12am once we arrived to Portsmouth after a long bike ride, but the meal we got from Golden Horse was truly abysmal. Crab meat and sweetcorn soup was ok, but king prawns were really soft and mushy, almost as though they were processed, or really low quality, dim sum was a mangled mess dripping with fat, rice was overcooked. Really not a great experience

Was not what we ordered. Asked for shredded duck and got slabs of duck and the Battered chilli prawns still Had the shell on. And when we called up to explain what had happened when our 2 year old had started to choked the employee was rude and didn’t care about the kid and said it’s meant to have the shell on make it taste better. Also ordered shredded chicken but came as chunks. Was not impressed and won’t be ordering from there again.

Please don’t order from here the food is tasteless cold and honestly horrible. There are far better places to order and I solemnly regret ordering from here.

The Staff is friendly. Enjoyed the Singapore rice. Plus there’s a 10% discount for students on orders above £6. Fair bargain

everything's weird and just barely edible (one dish is not even edible). the "hot & sour soup" has nothing to do with the real chinese hot & sour soup. it's a weird mix of things you never find in real hot & sour soup: celery, red bell pepper, chunks of ginger, bean sprouts (LOTS of it), corn, and big cubes of fried tofu. it does have bamboo shoot (but in chunks, instead of julienned as in the real version), but other than that none of the usual ingredients (e.g. woodear mushroom, egg ribbons, etc.). the soup itself also taste nothing like the real thing. the "wontons" in the "wonton noodle soup" also has nothing to do with real wonton. instead of grind/minced meat, it has little chunks/cubes of meat. the wrappers are so overcooked or soaked in broth for too long that they've become a mush (in my experience this only happens after soaking in broth for hours or overnight). the noodles are also not the type of noodle that wonton noodle soups usually come with. the "tofu with black bean sauce" is really salty. if you order this, you better get plain rice to go with it or you won't be able to eat it (i ordered mine with stir fried noodles which is already seasoned...). the "chow mein (ho fun)" is so oily it literally has more than a centimeter of oil at the bottom of the container. but the most horrendous amongst the dishes i ordered has to be the "chili & salt tofu." i mean, if i wasn't the one who picked and placed the order, i wouldn't be able to tell they are tofu (and i'm chinese!). they're like chunks of dried up sponge with an ultra salty crust. they're inedible.

The food wasn’t that great, the curry was abnormally hot for a regular Chinese curry, and there was very little meat on the ribs. I won’t be ordering from here again.

Absolutely discusted with my order .... my chicken balls where grey meat inside and the curry I ordered didn’t even contain chicken ...Never would I ever order from here again .....

Absolutely disgusting! Greasy, tastes like all oil is burnt/ reused, no meat in the chicken balls, slimy noodles, sticky / wet egg fried rice. Best bit was the prawn crackers.

Worst Chinese I’ve ever eaten! Rice had peppers diced into it- which overpowered the whole dish. Kung ok chicken had tiny pieces of chicken in it and im guessing massive tofu pieces aswell- couldn’t taste the sauce at all. Would definitely not order again or recommend to anyone

Food is very good and tasty, but needs more meat product in it. I had 3 chicken dishes, all had very little chicken in them.

The most disappointing Chinese we’ve ever had. Curry was almost black and had absolutely no flavour to it at all, rice was greasy. Mushroom chow mien again was so incredibly bland, I don’t even know how you can do it like that. Very disappointing, won’t be visiting again

Just brilliant all-round - the dishes always have a varied range of flavours and ingredients and a mecca for vegetarians and vegans looking for something other than the same old mini spring rolls! The vegetarian pancake roll is huge and packed full of veg and beansprouts with delicious crisp batter and the dim sum are out of this world!

Thai green curry...dyed green with food colour. Literally was dark forest green. Chicken and prawns had soaked up the the green food dye too and were bright green. Very odd. King Prawn balls still had shell on inside the batter. Chicken satay luke warm.

The food was mediocre at best, wouldn’t recommend as there are many other chinese restaurants which provide better food and service. The food is also overpriced for what you receive so think twice before ordering.

Tried to deliver my food to the wrong address, contacted me by phone, Tried to explain where my property was, after having to ring them back several times, they just went back to the shop. Hopefully will refund, shame because the food is good if you can get them to deliver, worth a try if you live in an obvious place,, but why anyone would ring doorbell at number 18 if you live at number 3,

Well. Both chicken curry's were half filled. And has the consistency of water. With oil floating on top. Never again thankyou

I wouldn’t use another Chinese place! It’s amazing! Lovely tasty food every time! My nan has been using them for over 30 years! And we’ve only ever used this place. :) it’s lovely!

just wonderful food - diverse, tasty and packed with flavour and spice with a good range of vegetarian options. And with friendly and speedy service and reasonable prices, I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

The curry sauce tasted pastey, food was horrible, we wasted £20 that food was late and cold, would never recommend

Chips were not cooked properly in fact they almost still had roots so undercooked 2 different lots Of chicken balls in the same bag, 4 dark brown and really hot and 4 were pale and squishy and cold Also cold sweet and sour sauce the curry sauce was granulated still where it not with hot water mixed properly And possible the worst chow mein I have ever had It’s not hard

Fantastic take-away. Iris who works here is a lovely lady with a nice smile and friendly. Good food is always fresh.

Disappointing at best. Bland food. Curry and Satay sauce both tested the same but one was more expensive than the other. Crispy duck was in no way crispy, chips were undercooked and no free prawn crackers as advertised. We won't return.

My favorite Chinese by far, always full of flavor and tastes way better than most. No sludgy rice or bad sauces, all tastes fresh and great!

The woman who runs this is incredibly friendly. The food is much better than standard takeaway restaurants in Portsmouth. It's worth having the crispy crab dim sum.
