Deep Blue Fish & Chips in Portsmouth

Just ordered large chips and a pie, the pie was put in the large chips box so only barely even 1/3 of the box was even chips! The chips were for two people. Absolutely disgusting.

Amazing food and really friendly workers

Quick service, good quality fish and chips, other food on the menu includes chicken nuggets, halloumi and 'frickles' which are deep fried pickled onions.

Chips must have been out all day, stiff and reheated for sure, undersized portions. U wanna charge top money, expect higher critiscm. Not going back.

Naomi served me on Friday with such politeness, she also explained I can use the app to collect loyalty points and to order on in future if I wanted to. I was very happy with my order and food I received and will be back!

Naomi served me over the weekend and has done on a few occasions she always greets me and other customers with a smile and provides excellent service. The food always tastes really good and the portions sizes are perfect. My personal favourite are the chicken bites :)

This is a great chip shop - the food is always cooked great, normally to order and fresh. Kelly’s service is always great, always happy to help, even when I’ve come in just as the fryers are about to be switched off!!! A firm favourite of ours.

Really nice food but very small portions!! I ordered for me and my 2 young children. I came on here to look at the reviews after my meal because I thought they had given me 1 kids size chips instead of a large as we only had 3 handfuls (1 handful each) The small box wasn't even full. It seems this is the large size after reading through the reviews.

Had Managers special cod & Chips with curry sauce and drink. Decent portion for £9 would go back again 😋

The worst fish and chip shop in Portsmouth the large chips we’re the smallest large portion I have ever seen wasnt even enough for one person.I asked for a small sausage and batter and they only do jumbo sausages the curry sauce was tiny. The worst part was this cost £9.37 absolute daylight robbery avoid at all costs. I even had to ask if he was sure he done me a large portion which the man re assured me that was a large portion of chips complete rip off

Ordered two regular chips and a small fish on the tablet, I’m not exaggerating to say it took over 20 mins. There was one person in front of us. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such small portions of chips and half of them had bruises/black bits. Won’t be returning

First of all, chips and staff are great, however the portions are very stingy. £4 for a couple handfuls of chips is not good considering other chip shops in area are same price but will give you atleast double this amount. Moved to two stars because they gave me an automated generic message in reply to my review

Terrible sized portions, not as advertised, chips full of oil. Not happy at all, never visiting again. Would not recommend to anyone. Not as good as other Deep Blue shops I have tried in the past. Overall it was a terrible experience.

AVOID: Extremely poor value for money. Ordered large chips here which in every other chippie we use will easily feed 2 adults. Large portion here was less than 30 chips with some inedible scraps…that’s more than 10p per chip. Also had a saveloy and battered sausage….my other half said it was the worst saveloy she’s ever had. Definitely will not be returning especially as there are plenty of superior and MUCH better value for money options nearby.

Stopped there yesterday for saveloy and chips disgusting overpriced the chips where re cooked hard and warm the saveloy was nuked so much the skin had come off and still served it a simple food that you can't get right you should be ashamed

Absolutely disgusting 😤 they forgot some of my order. When I got home rang them they couldn't do nothing about it. Said next time they will give me the items. Only 2 mins drive away and my food was stone colds and over cooked . Will not be returning. Over priced aswell

For a fund- raising event we booked in advance and ordered 90 meals from Deep Blue in Eastney Road. From the beginning, nothing was too much trouble and Kelly and her team ensured that the food they delivered was piping hot and delicious. Everyone loved the food and asked when the next event would be. Thank you to Kelly and her team at Deep Blue for contributing to the evening which was a great success.

This is our go to place and our first stop every time we visit from Essex, it never fails! Thank you all for feeding hungry travellers.

So we paid for large. Not impressed with the large cod. £25 for 1 large cod 1 regular cod and regular chips and the curry sauce. My partner thought the large cod was her regular. Not great value for the size of meal. Did taste nice though just not enough for the price.

The staff on duty were very helpful and pleasant to talk to , with good knowledge of the contents of the menu and local area.

Lovely food, very tasty gravy and curry sauce and great value for money. The solitary staff member serving was working very hard, certainly needed a helping hand as it was lunchtime. Could also do with some radio music in the lobby area 😊

Went to Deep Blue on Eastney Road tonight as my normal chippy was closed. Bought two battered and two chips. The shop was chaotic with no organisation at all. It took ages to order and even longer to get my food. When I got back home the boxes were opened to find they were half empty containing what looked like kids portions of soggy chips and overcooked sausages. Definitely not worth over £13. Next time the Crispy Cod is closed I won't go to Deep Blue.

We ( myself and my 2 adult children with special needs ) dine here regularly during the summer, service is always good but was exceptional when we visited Thursday 8th of June. Our server was Bailey. Our meals were freshly cooked to perfection, and served with a smile. Toilets are always clean, and a nice atmosphere even when busy. Will be back next week.

Kelly was very helpful and friendly while quickly getting our order ready on Wednesday and also let me know about ordering on the app so I could skip queues next time. Thank you

The Mrs went to pick up Fish and Chips. We ordered a standard chips and when she got it home and opened the box it was less than half full. It wasn't a big box either. I took it back and complained and they filled the rest of the box up. The second experience, I went down to get some chips and the door was locked. It said they closed at two. It was about 7 minutes to two. I decided not to give up and went to the Crispy Cod in nearby Locksway Road who were open and who provided a very satisfactory meal for a fraction of the cost of Deep Blue. I've been back to the Crispy Cod a few times now and haven't once been disappointed.

The smallest portion of chips I have ever received from any chip shop. Rip off merchants. Judging by the appalling reviews I should’ve avoided. Never again.

First time back in a long time last Saturday and a massive improvement - service was great - haddock, cod, chips, peas were all freshly cooked and even the gherkin was spot on. Team were really helpful and friendly to everyone who came in!

The chips were tasty and the service was friendly and awesome. I dont think i ever been serviced by a friendlier person.

Ordered from the Eastney branch twice in the space of 2 weeks and on both occasions it’s resulted in disappointment. Way too expensive compared to what you actually get. Portions sizes in my opinion are not representable to what you order. (Might have something to do with them squeezing multiple items into the box’s. Looks good but does the customer no favours.) My last visit I ordered 2 fish, 2 chips & 2 sausage came to £30.14. Typically I had £30 cash on me and there was no way they was letting me off that 14p. Would have been happy to drop it in later that night but don’t think they’d have been happy for me to do it. Well within their rights not to but can’t help but feel a little aggrieved. I also only live 5 mins down the road, by the time I got home, everything was stone cold. All in all, can’t say I’ll be visiting again…..

You can always rely on good nosh from Deep Blue...I highly recommend them...

Wednesday Lunchtime +..... only one other customer, so service was fast. Crisp batter, fish lovely and moist. Very nice lady, and the place was spotlessly clean.

You can find better value for money elsewhere, but the food is good, just a bit pricey.

Not great. First 2 things I asked for I got told they can’t do it at this time (1830). Ordered 2 sausage in batter, 2 savaloys and a portion of chip. Nearly choked when he said £17 odd. As it’s £11 odd in my usual. Only when here as I was in a rush and passing. Chips were ok but not great and very tight on portion size. Never again.

Called here at 1.30 apparently they don’t do fish at this time . Strange as they are supposed to be a fish & chip shop . I had not been for a long time as the last 2 times I had been the curry sauce were shockingly bad. It were solid and wouldn’t pour out of the pot it were served in . I will not go here again

Walked in at 7.15pm tonight to a guy asking for a burger. There was a bearded man near the fryers and a young boy at front. They told this man he couldn't have a burger as they had turned of their hot plates. He didn't understand why they couldn't do it as they were open he then asked for curry sauce they said they had also turned this off. When he questioned this he was told well we want to get out of here when the shop shuts and to do this they have to turned stuff off so we.can finish at 8. I then had asked for cod which also couldn't be provided as the fryers were off too. The man walked out and I was quick to follow. Also I'm fed up with going in there asking for peas fritters which are clearly advertised on their board. Once told we only do them on Fridays then the next time when getting my mum cod and chips I tried to order peas fritter again they said no they said they had mushy peas.. I then pointed they had batter to to which she just shrugged her shoulders. Might as well just shut. Ordered crispy cod online via their website after even with delivery charge much cheaper and just as good save your money this place gets worse and worse.

For starters the shop was very scruffy and greasy looking and the servers clothes looked like they have never seen a washing machine plus no headwear was worn ! We had cod and chips but the batter was disgusting it was flat on the fish and didn’t even look like batter and the chips wear cold and looked like they were old marked up potatoes . Put me off going back .

Just had the worst chips ever. Warmed up from lunchtime, rock hard. Totally rubbish and a waste of money. Never again

Chips arrived almost cold and soaking in vinegar - box was absolutely soaked. If that wasn’t bad enough they looked old / reheated. Disappointing as usually they’re nice and fresh.

Had till problems but still served customers in front of me, I was last in the queue but when it came to take my order i was willing to pay cash or card. They said he was unable to take my order and was immediately closing even though there was food cooked and three customers ahead of me which he was able to serve. Will mo be going back or recommending this shop. Ever heard about pen and paper and cash. Closing on a Saturday when pompey playing at home seems crazy but more disappointed on not being informed about the issue, waiting 10 minutes while he served the rest of customers to then stated that I wouldn't be served, there was no one else waiting. How difficult can old school selling be. Technology is not the end of customer service its a tool. Think outside the box sometimes is my suggestion. Never going to any deep blue shops again. If I could give minus stars I would.

Popped in while we are on holiday couldn’t fault the quality the fish was lovely and fresh while the sausage was cooked perfectly. Staff where lovely and helpful.

Not been able to get fish and chips on each visit due to being told no serve for 30 mins one time and 45 nins on another visit.

Very good quality fabulous fish

SLOW. 15 min wait and not busy. BUT, If the people standing around behind the fryer helped the girl up front it would of been a 5 star and 5 mins. The food was great. Fish was chips were fantastic and about as good as they get. Frier guy, don't just laugh at the girl serving and making the orders, be chivalrous and give her a hand. The customers will be much happier as well as the staff.
