The Golden Hind Fisheries in Bradford

We were staying in Haworth and wanted a meal with friends and thought Fish & Chips would be a good idea to have back at our flat. It was quick and easy to be served. The meal was great, we enjoyed a relaxed and lovely meal with our friends requiring no preparation. Thanks to Golden Hind.

I like fish and chips...a lot. This is the best fish and chips I've had since my first Yorkshire fish and chips as a child - 50 years ago. And I've been talking about that one for the last 50 years. My husband and I both had the small fish and chips (Southerners just don't have the stamina!), and considered for a moment, going back for more. Lovely friendly people too.

Awesome food , bit of a queue , but nothing major but it is because the food was good

Superb chippy Fish n chips were cooked to perfection and we waited outside on the seated area,delivered to us quickly. Owner came n wiped the table first then the other owner the fryer made a point of coming out to see if we were happy. Not that’s customer service Recommended

Beautiful fish and chips. Friendly staff make you feel like part of the family. They chat to you as if they have known you all your life. The fish is cooked when you order ensuring it is fresh and crispy.

Simply wonderful fish and chip shop - the Locals' Choice and recommended to visitors. Definitely the best in Haworth. Wide menu now includes smaller portions of fish and chips for those who find the standard generous Yorkshire helpings overwhelming. Wonderfully friendly staff. Take away only. Check frying times to avoid disappointment. Unconditionally recommended. Update September 2025. Still absolutely wonderful. Now possible to telephone ahead to order and beat the queue. Still unconditionally recommended.

These are undoubtedly the best fish and chips I have ever had, and unlike other fish shops they don't repeat on me which is probably down to what there cooked in. 😋😋

We’re a group of motorcyclists with an appetite. We do weekly chippy rides and had been told about The Golden Hind Fisheries by some friends. Great chippy, really friendly owner/staff and tasty food. We will definitely be back!

fish and chips as i remember them, i had the smaller portion with a few scraps and perfect for lunch, even better i walked down to the park and dined alfresco, i am looking forward to my next visit

We've never managed to catch Golden Hind Fisheries open when we've been visiting Haworth but this time we were lucky and what a treat! It was well worth the wait. All cooked fresh to order, lovely thick flaky haddock in delicious crispy beef dripping batter and gorgeous chips............we'll definitely be back!

Lovely fish and chips cooked to order so you will have to wait but it is worth the wait. So if you don't want to wait and want fast food go elsewhere and stop whinging!!!

It was one of the best fish and chips I've ever had!! And the owners were super lovely and friendly. Loved everything about this place :) Curry sauce was also 10/10. I will be dreaming about this place until I am back.

We had some of the best haddock and chip that we have ever had. A crisp and light golden batter allowed the flavour of the haddock to shine through. The chips were were light and fluffy inside. A perfect combination! The Golden Hind is only open Wed to Fr 11:30-1:30 & 4:30-7:30. You do not want to miss out. The couple who ran the place were delightful.

The best I have had in years. I have them most Fridays. This guy knows how to cook fish and the batter is excellent.

We were staying just a few metres along the road for a few days, but had to wait till our last night on the Wednesday for the Golden Hind to open. A very warm welcome from the owners and also two other customers. Great chat while the food was being cooked. About 19 quid for two fish suppers, an extra portion of chips, a roll (or a teacake as it's called in Yorkshire) and some mushy peas, is great value. Fed three of us easily. Everything is delicious. Brilliant place, would highly recommend.

Had the nicest fish and chips in a long while (possibly ever). Sat outside on a drizzly day chatting to two lovely local ladies and their dogs. They rated the establishment so highly that they came every week, rain or shine. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the price was excellent! I wish we lived nearer. Thank you!

We are regularly visiting family in the area and Paul’s fish and chips are just the best which make our trip to Yorkshire always special. We highly recommend the Golden Hind for their outstanding F & C.

Wonderful fish and chips, opposite the holiday cottage we were stopping in so had them a second time as they were so good. Sad I didn't get time to try the proper yorkshire fishcakes. As a yorkshire girl I miss proper Yorkshire fish and chips like these, Leicester doesn't really know how to make them the same. As for winging people wanting vegetarian food its a fish and chip shop you idiots. Sorry but go somewhere else.

Five stars for 'Golden Hind Fisheries'. Top class service with a smile and a warm welcome from the three staff (not forgetting the jolly customers I was chatting with). As for the fish and chips they were absolutely delicious! The chips were thickly cut and fluffy inside. The oh-so-tasty fish had light crispy batter and was cooked to perfection. Hey, I'll be back. The two of us visited in January 2022 and had 2 portions of fish and chips. We both agreed they were the best fish and chips we've ever had! We've had many portions of fish n chips from different establishments since then and use the Golden Hind as our quality benchmark. So far no one has come close to beating them!

If you are visiting Haworth you would do well to make your way here. The Golden Hind is one of the last bastions of proper British fish and chips and I can't wait for my next trip!

Found when visiting howarth. Lovley fish and chip. Cup of tea. Sat outside on table and benches. Staff very friendly. Fish was fantastic. Can't remember the price but definitely visit again.

Downhill of High Street, 5 minutes along Sun Street and you will find a "most excellent" Fish and Chip establishment, The Golden Hind, you will find all normal deep-fried foods available (not mars bars thankfully). All at very reasonable prices and cooked to perfection. There is no seating inside. you will though see a number of "picnic benches" situated off road to the left of the establishment. Enjoy!

Excellent! I visited alone during the trip to Haworth village. I had Fish & Chips and was excellent. Also I enjoyed a little chat with the staff while waiting for it. He was really friendly. I highly recommend it!

Seriously good fish and chips and they even get the salt and vinegar right when you ask for lots. Beautifully, juicy fish with light crisp batter and chips just how they should be- brown and tasty! I hate pale chips and these were perfect, you don't find them too often these days. Curry was was great too and the owners were friendly. I'm baffled as to why you don't open at the weekend, surely you would do a roaring trade. Would absolutely make the journey to eat here again.

Went to this chip shop today unexpectedly with my partner and dog after unsuccessfully hunting the egg seller's box, we got 2 fish 2 curry sauce and a chips to share, we ate it on the bench outside and it was honestly the best fish and chips we have both ever had, Perfectly cooked chips, perfect fish I don't usually like batter but really enjoyed this.

This is a great fish & chip shop, perfect traditional fish & chip and friendly staff. Won't go anywhere else now!

Excellent personal service from the owner who cooks fish to order and are delicious highly recommended for a truly authentic Yorkshire fish n chips experience. It's a shame the owner has reduced opening times to just 3 days a week do check before you go.

Visited here based solely on the reviews. Waited 15 minutes to be served, then told that they had nothing, absolutely nothing, that was vegetarian, including the chips. No, cheese and onion pie, no veggie burger, nothing, even the chips are cooked in beef fat! So, after having waited so long outside in the cold, I bought fish, chips and peas and a can of coke that cost over £8. I thought that the OH could at least have the fish and chips and my vegetarian daughter (I didn’t have the heart to tell her) and I could have the chips and peas. Waited another 15 minutes for it to be ready to be then told, sorry but we have run out of peas so you can only have a half portion! This was still very early in the evening. Got them back to where we were staying, emptied out the very small chips, and the small fish with a very large amount of batter, The small portions actually turned out to be the best thing that happened in the end because the chips tasted awful, and the peas were completely tasteless and inedible so were left. On the plus side, the local cooperative sells Gaviscon and are open late.

Don't waste your time , go find a GOOD ONE . This place has come down since the last owner had it , Dennis was the best at making fish &chips theses people do not have a clue. !!! Such a shame . But Haworth...

Best fish and chips in Yorkshire, in my opinion

We visited Howarth on a cold, rainy day in December and were relieved to find the golden hind which had proper chips and potato scallops, which I haven't seen since childhood. Very friendly service and would highly recommend.

Excellent as always! I love their (Yorkshire) scone with scraps (bits) in their very fresh bread cake (bap, bun, T-cake). Never disappoints

Excellent service, everything is done from fresh. You can tell when eating the food. Well worth waiting for your food to be cooked . Best fish I've had over the years. Would recommend to all who visit Haworth!

The best takeaway fish & chips I’ve had in a long long time. The fish is cooked to order in beef dripping, as all good fish & chips should be. Try the scones (aka patties in the part of West Yorkshire I grew up in). Friendly & cheerful staff. Fantastic value. I highly recommend this establishment.

Used the F&C shop for an evening meal to save on cooking, whilst staying in the next village. Good ordering service but no selection of fish. The fish we had was lovely, but the chips were nothing exceptional - tasted rather 'lardy' - can't say...

Lovely fish and chips - friendly staff, little space with a couple of picnic benches next to the shop to eat if wanted and we got our first taste of a 'scone' which I'm told is a Yorkshire specialty - you need to try it - I'd definitely go back for that (flavour is a bit like a Scotch pie - strange! - I really don't know how but it was delicious!).
