After a spur of the moment decision to go out for dinner, we went to the White Hart in Puckeridge, but unfortunately it was so busy we couldn’t find our way to the bar. We then went to the Golden Fleece in Braughing. Greeted by the landlord on arrival but we still waited about 10 minutes before we received our drinks. After placing our order at the bar we waited at least an hour before it arrived. Sadly we were very disappointed with our meals, our order of muscles and chips was ok, BUT the bread for mopping up the tomato sauce was very thinly sliced and stale. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with our meal and won’t be venturing to this pub again.

Normally I cook for the family but on this gorgeous sunny Sunday, I booked a table in the restaurant. We were welcomed by Jade and her team and opted to sit in the terrace for drinks before lunch. Overlooking the garden, this is a lovely space to enjoy pre-meal drinks. Dave called us to our table where we were served superb beef and pork and an excellent nut roast. There were plenty of seasonal vegetables and lovely creamed leeks. All gluten-free as our son-in-law is celiac. The staff were very attentive and the whole experience was just perfect for a 50th birthday celebration. Even the desert had a candle. Top marks guys, just excellent.

We had lunch for 6 people celebrating our wedding. Although we arrived early, the manager was accomodating and offered us a great spot in the garden area until our lunch was ready. We had a 3 course meal; every dish was of a high standard and good quality, the food is cooked fresh. There is a Specials Board with a good selection of choices. There's also a wide range of wines, spirits, beers and lagers available. The pub/restuarant is very clean and spacious. We highly recommend the Golden Fleece for any celebration, the staff went above and beyond our expectations. Thank you for a great day and looking after us and our guests and making our day so special. Pauline & Susan x

We sat in a delightful covered terrace with proper tables and chairs (there's also a large garden). Service was provided by two extremely attentive young ladies. My wife had a generous lamb roast, and I had a beef rib with a bourbon and chipotle sauce. The beef fell of the bone, the sauce was expertly flavoured and not too sweet. and this dish was the best I've had in any pub or restaurant so far this year. We're looking forward to our next visit.

We were searching for somewhere to seat 9 friends but other restaurants or pubs were saying know or they wanted more people for a roast one who done the booking, said that she had been before so we all arrived and we were very happy with being welcomed as we were, then being shown to a room that would put some lounge’s to shame. The staff always making sure we were well catered for. The food was plenty and the vegetables were very good and fresh. We already have agreed to go again. So cheers to all the staff and landlady and landlord. May you have many more happy customers.

Terrible food! They should be ashamed to serve something like this. I usually don’t leave reviews but this time i really had to leave it out here. I was in town for the weekend & felt like would be great to have a meal at The Golden Fleece. I asked if could have a burger which is on there menu & they told me that they do not have a sit available until 5pm..mind that at I came 1pm. I told them I was fine with a take away & it took around an 1 hour to get my food. You can find below a picture of what I got for 16pounds!!!. Nothing on my burger… apart the patty which tasted really bad & was overcooked. On top of that You could tell that the chips had just came out of the freezer. 🤢I know that they had a lot of customers that day but this shouldn’t be an excuse.

Set in the lovely quintessential English village of Brqughing in Hertfordshire, The Golden Fleece is all that you could wish for in fine countryside dining. The pub is situated on the B1368 with adequate parking and a lovely garden and patio area. Inside the roaring inglenook fire welcomes you on cold winter evenings and the bar is friendly and comfortable. Excellent choices of real ales and the choice of wine and gins is exceptional. We booked late on a Saturday for six of us and were seated in the spacious restaurant. The food was not delivered quickly - an indication that everything is freshly cooked to order. My venison steaks, cooked rare to my liking, were lovely with a superb sauce, lovely seasonal vegetables and everybody else’s meals were equally excellent. And, I just love the beers here. Well worth a visit.

Thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch. We both had a roast, roast chicken and roast lamb, good portions and everything was very tasty. If you didn’t fancy a roast the normal menu had a good selection. Impressed that they can cater for gluten free and dairy free. We were full but wanted to try dessert, both had the baked cheesecake and it was very nice. Good service and we thought good value for money. Will definitely return.

We booked a table for Sunday lunch at 1.30. Arrived in good time, lovely warm pub but quite surly bar staff met us, we went to our table, ordered quite promptly but then waited 1 hour 15 mins before our roasts arrived, very poor quality, dry meat, hard roast potatoes, a cauliflower cheese that was unrecognisable! All in all a very unsatisfactory meal. Attentive waitresses asking us if the meal was okay, what could we say! not their responsibility to cook a decent sunday roast. Sorry but we would not re-visit.

We have visited twice within a week as it was so enjoyable. First visit with a inquisitive very young child who wandered around with many natural sounds of enjoyment. Our second was just the elderly grandparents. Welcomed genuinely on both occasions by very helpful staff. Specials available each day open including Sunday. The roast beef with traditional Yorkshire's etc was beautifully cooked and carved. The Cajun salmon equally well cooked. All accomplishments generous and al denti. Desserts are most tempting. Range of wines is impressive with many available by the glass with 4 options. Also choice of ales. Well kept. Service was helpful, unhurried yet attentive. Please don't all book at once as we want to return. Not cheap but very good value.

When looking for a suitable venue for a special birthday party, there are not many to choose from in this area. However, The Golden Fleece was not only the best from a seating point of view, but also as far as menu choice and flexibility is concerned. Chef Jess is skilled in this area of expertise and offered us a great choice with the ability to tweak if needed. We were able to decorate the spacious dining room with 60 stuff and leave the cake ready for presentation at the end of the dessert course. Everything went like clockwork. The staff wore masks and were extremely attentive. The food was epic and just delicious. Out grateful thanks to Jess, Pete and the whole GF team for making this celebration so very special

Honestly the worse dining out experience my wife and I have ever had. It was so bad we were laughing all the way home. I had partridge breast. All 3 of them. Go figure. And the rubbery reheated unseasoned bird was laid on a grey soup of barley which as I commented to the wife looked like the contents of the late birds stomach. My wife had a beef wellington which she described simply as Yuk.The pudding was a microwave sponge with tinned custard. But worse than the terrible over priced food was the service.Waited 45 minutes for a cheese stater and overall we were in this god forsaken place for 2 hours. And no it wasn't because they were busy. The icing on the cake was that the place was absolutely freezing. My wife had to put her coat back on. We were glad to get back to the car to warm up.Staff smiled a lot in false belief they were serving food worth waiting and freezing for but that was it .I don't want to put the boot in but I said to my wife on way home that Toby carvery was better (may God forgive me) at least the meat is fresh.

Nice pub and gardens. Friendly helpful staff. Food was lovely but not good value for money. Sat inside because weather was too hot nice and clean.

Have been here twice now and each time received a friendly welcome. The menu is interesting and varied catering for dietary requirements easily and without fuss, such a simple but important benefit for anyone who needs this information. Our food was very good and the service was timely and interested. I was offered, without asking, a dessert to suit my needs that wasn’t on the menu but was absolutely delicious, really appreciated this. I would highly recommend the Golden Fleece for lunch or dinner to mark any occasion or for everyday dining.

I'm coeliac and love eating here... The owners really understand allergies and have a gluten free and dairy free menu.

Well there is tapas and tapas. In truth the best tapas is in Spain and Catalunya but in England it is very difficult to find a pub/restaurant who knows what to do. The Golden Fleece produce great English tapas with style. The food is freshly prepared and cooked to order so it tasted great. The selection of beers is good and the wine, although a tad on the expensive side, is excellent. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the whole experience is very good indeed.

We arrived for our booking, and had to wait about 25 minutes for one person who was delayed for traffic, so we were not in a rush, but....

Visited with four others and were given a nice round table in the restaurant. We chose different meals but everyone was happy with their meals and the general ambience of the room

On the same day we took friends from Wiltshire here for lunch and enjoyed the great beers and excellent Braughing Sausage baps, GF for me. In the evening, we were taken out for dinner with great local friends. The service and food is excellent and the Rock Eel is the best that I have ever eaten. Excellent service and great food and drink.

The traditional pub is set in a lovely Hertfordshire village and has two distinct eating areas. One is in the main bar with beams, huge log fire, wooden floors and tables. The other is more in the style of a restaurant with a carpeted floor, pictures for sale on the walls. The staff were very warm and friendly and food and drinks very good.

Went with friends to celebrate a 25th Wedding Anniversary. Thoroughly enjoyed the event but why serve curries with a knife and fork at a stand up buffet. Really?

Managed to book a table for today’s Sunday Lunch and was seated promptly offered drinks as we sat down and given both the menus of the standard menu and specials. We all chose our drinks and they were promptly delivered to our table. Our food order was taken and we all chose Sunday roasts chicken and lamb. Drinks, meals and staff excellent. After our meal asked for the desert menu which was also promptly delivered to our table but we all decided not to have a desert. Just wished that they had some traditional deserts like apple pie and custard or jam sponges.

We came for Sunday lunch. This books up early in the week - but if you cannot get a reservation, come between 1200 and 1215 and bar tables are available. An unusually varied menu for Sunday, with a special separate vegetarian menu. Very reasonable prices considering all the awards it has achieved. Excellent fish, though my wife's roast was not so great which has knocked off a star. . But highly recommended nevertheless

Excellent lunch. Crab and prawn starter, and Camembert starters, and lamb rump mains. Really very good. Enjoyed the quality, tasty food and atmosphere of the pub. Service was good. Beer and wine was excellent. Booked on a travelzoo deal. We brought our 2 year old so, which was fine and high chair was available.

We have visited this venue many times. We have found the menu to be very comprehensive and enjoyed many of the various dishes on offer with no complaints, hot, delicious and competitively priced. The staff are wonderful, chatty, friendly, helpful & nothing is too much trouble. We have taken our sons, wives and grandchildren, they too have enjoyed the quality of the food with a great choice for the little ones. I highly recommend this venue for either a quick bite, when passing through or for a delicious Sunday roast.

Picked Rosey Lea because it has kerb appeal and there was a pretty terrace to enjoy the last of the summer. Had a simple lunch of baked potato and a glass of wine which came to £17.45. The spud was OK and came with a decent amount of salad. However, for that money I want a big, fluffy and really hot potato where the cheese is happily melting in to the mix. The one I had was warmish and smallish. Service was friendly but on the slow side.

Although my previous visit was some while ago, this beautifully-maintained venue has not changed. The environment, the service, and the food on my recent visit was as good as ever.
