Probably Hertfordshire’s best Sunday roast the roast beef with toast potatoes and vegetables wonderful.I actually booked one of there fabulous Cow Sheds well heated and very comfortable the staff are very friendly and helpful this is the place for Sunday lunch.

Fantastic local pub, perfect for food, drinks, groups and working alone during the day.

Just been for a meal and booked one of your cow sheds. What a wonderful idea. Shed was warm with the heater that you can control along with the Bluetooth speaker which you can play your own music. Food was absolutely delicious and the young guy serving us was really courteous and attentive. Would recommend and I’ll definitely return.

Great atmosphere, food and service.

Excellent food, good beer. Cozy Dutch barns to sit in as private parties up to 6 people, obviously bigger parties can eat in the pub, or alfresco.

We visited as a family after a long walk and really enjoyed our meal. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was very good. We will try and come back for their Sunday roast and maybe they cocktails!

We booked a garden cow shed for dinner it exceeded expectation. The food was of a high standard thank you Amy concidering how busy they where. Sophie our waitress was amazing she was patient and kind and kept checking we where ok.

Quite possibly the best pub in the whole of Hertford. We had our Wedding reception here and the owners and staff made it such a super special day. Alistair, Anna, Louise, Kate, Max,Tom and countless others from Team Bull made it THE most memorable day. If life had rewind we would be back again each week to do the same again. Team The Bull you were Superb and continue to be week in and week out!👏👏

Friday night dinner. Two couples, Fish & chips ok. Ribs ok but just warm, two burgers were terrible, Probably almost the worst burger I've ever had. waited ages for condiments. Told the young waiter the burgers were awful and his reply was "but was it good though". What a stupid answer. I asked him to tell the chef. food very much overpriced including the wine. Never again.

Another visit here, last Friday - pizza night! Place was absolutely heaving with great people; mostly locals all supporting a great village pub. Alistair (longtime Landlord and owner) turned up and spent time mingling with everyone and chatting to him again was a pleasure. Any time we visit family (Jules & Anissa)in the village; we pop in and have a great time; whether just for drinks or food or both! Back soon!

What a fantastic pub! My friend and I had lunch today, she got the beer battered cod with chips, and I went for a Sunday beef roast. My friend complimented the batter on the fish, saying that she could taste the beer coming through and it was very crisp. My roast tasted absolutely delicious. The gravy had a beautiful taste that ran through it, the carrot was cooked perfectly, The red cabbage was so delicious with such a beautiful sweetness to it, and the meat was very tender. We booked out the shed for our lunch, and it was lovely. The space had a very relaxed and comfortable aesthetic, and the seating was actually comfortable. There were loads of cushions to add even more comfort. It was a lovely space that offered a lovely chilled vibe. The service was second to none today. Our server was fantastic. He came by often enough to make sure that we were being well looked after, and not too often that we felt that we weren't being left to enjoy our afternoon, he got it spot on! He was very friendly and helpful throughout. I wish I had got his name, actually, because he deserves to stand out 'thank you!' I'm planning on going back again, as I had a lovely time and the food and service was great!

We always get a great pint and the music was excellent with Indi Forde.

We went to the bull for a bank holiday lunch & we were extremely disappointed. My 20 month old is gluten free, they had no food option for him, other than cucumber sticks (which they didn’t bring out) he couldn’t have chips, any kids meal. Which is absolutely appalling. One family member ordered after us, but was told she had to wait ten minutes before ordering as the kitchen is too busy. She went back ten minutes later & ordered. Waiting 30 minutes and she had no food. she went and asked for it in a take away box, staff said yes. 15 minutes later she’s still waiting, by this point we’d all finished eating. She went back in and staff admitted they’d forgotten to cook it. So she left without having any food. Also The food we did have was very dry. Overall a terrible experience and we won’t be returning.

Had Sunday lunch here with some friends. We had booked one of the Cowsheds which made for a very pleasant meal as you have your own little pod and are isolated from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the pub although it seemed really nice in there also. Food was very tasty and it was a real treat to find that they serve Harveys (from Lewes in Sussex) beer. Couldn't ask for more. Can highly recommend!

We were here for Monday lunch. The staff are seriously wonderful, it makes a difference. The really important point is that I had the spare ribs. Every year My wife and I go to the USA, visited almost all the states, the home of spare ribs. The ones at the Bull were at least as good as the best in the USA if not better. Treat yourself to something really special!

I got a lemon and lime and it was absolutely amazing the service was quite good but there was a small wait. The inside was quite full and loud but we sat outside and the garden space was beautiful.

An amazing lunch stop on a Monday! Reduced menu but still lovely choices. Great service and a lovely cozy feel inside. We really enjoy our lunch. Recommend the veggie burger and the classic burger! Would definitely come again

Popped in for a Sunday lunch with mum, not pre booked. Had no room in bar/restaurant but Cameron, our server said there was a cow shed available. Turned out to be a lovely, well equipped shed of which there are 6. Had duck for starters, roasts (lamb and beef) followed by desserts. Only complaint food wise is a roast for me is meat, crispy roasts and a Yorkshire. For some reason, they put the roasts under everything else instead of pride of place, which means they get soggy. Everything else was lovely, and a good selection of veg too. Cameron was an excellent server, polite and a credit to the venue.

Mothers Day Lunch was fantastic. Attentive and happy staff, even though extremely busy. We normally wouldn't go out for lunch on such a busy day but very glad we did.

Was looking for a quick dinner on a Wednesday evening and i have driven past a few times so thought i would check it out. Thank god i booked as it was rammed and had a great atmosphere. Great country pub, cosy fireplace and some excellent food. We had a table for four and all enjoyed our meals. The half rack of ribs were fantastic, with a delicious, spicy sauce and very good sides of fries, coleslaw and corn on the cob. The drop of a star for food and service is down to a dessert. Our Café Gourmand arrived well before everything else, such that it had all gone by the time other desserts arrived. Also, the Gourmand bit, rather than being a small collection of delightful miniature desserts was just some chocolates from a rather average box of chocolates. Very disappointing! Other than that, definitely recommended.

Went to the bull for valentines the day after as we didn’t like the Valentines menu, the food was amazing however the service was very slow and there was no backing music on. Shame the service and no music let the whole experience down.

Nice place to eat and meet. We had a lunch menu for Saturday, and it was excellent. Loads to eat and very tasty. Good value as well. Have a dining room and a place to eat if you have a dog. Also, outside a covered area.

Just had THE most excellent meal. Highly recommend the ribs, cooked by a proper chef. Service is very attentive and I will definitely be returning. Can’t speak highly enough of The Bull at Watton-At-Stone. Give it a try, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Another Monday and I'm out cycling with pals. It's not the riding but social aspects of riding that gets me out so a good pub stop is important. I think I've been here before but it would have been a long time ago but I know I've ridden past here. Never mind all that what is the pub like, you say. More and more places aren't opening on Monday as trade isn't great so a good pub in a decent location is great to visit. The Bull hits the spot. Food is up to par for a pub and there were plenty of customers in. The staff were cheery and efficient so it's definitely recommended by me. That's it, if you're in the area, do visit

We went on the 3 rd Dec which was probably one of the coldist nights of the year. The inside was no different it was freezing , asked for a couple of logs to be thrown on the fire which they did but were damp so all that created was black smoke . Pubs have to realise that it’s no good cutting down on the heating if you want it to remain busy , There charging enough for food and drink so let’s have some heat

First time to this restaurant, and I would say that I will definitely be re-booking, it was nice to have a roast dinner that actually had taste, Service was great. Can’t believe this place is only two minutes from me and it’s the first time I’ve been there.

We eat here probably once a month all year round. Walking here from tewin or driving in the winter. Staff are always friendly and accommodating. Food , especially sunday lunch is consistently very good even when the restaurant and bar are packed.

Very expensive for the quality of food, Camembert starter to share (£18) described as coming with artisan bread, there were 2 plain bread sticks and 4 small rolls that were not fresh, definitely wouldn’t describe as artisan at all! The fisherman’s basket (£24) was very oily, fried and pre frozen, the fish items all looked the same brown colour, we saw on the table next to us who had Brie & Halloumi starters that looked the same brown colour, everything deep fried. I can still taste the oil now. We wouldn’t return, definitely prefer The Tilbury or White Hart where the food is cooked fresh and probably the same price. Also hate the 10% tip that is already added to your bill but ‘optional’.

We were a group of 11, all were in agreement that the food was excellent, the waitress was too.

Stopped for light lunch of starters: falafel and hummus with flat breads and brie bites with side order of fat fries. Despite being busy Sunday food arrived promptly and exquisitely presented and delicious. Very friendly helpful staff and excellent range of real ales. Will definitely be back to try the roast dinners!

It's a fantastic pub in a great setting just outside Hertford. Staff are very polite and attentive, and the service was prompt. The food was something else, I always have ribs if it's on the menu, so I've had a lot of ribs from many places. These are easily in my best so far. The starter was the wings, which was also phenomenal. Everyone at the table was happy, and we can be picky with our food if it's not what we expect. These guys didn't just meet. They exceeded. It's definitely a place we will be visiting again to try everything else on offer. Thank you to all staff.

Since moving to the village, the Bull has been my favourite place to go. We pop there after cricket, me and my partner pop down for a snack or dinner. Drinks are great, staff are superb and always a nice vibe

Came in with family for a sunday lunch after being recommended by friends and we were not disappointed !! The roast dinner was delicious and a hefty portion, when my mother couldn’t finish hers she was immediately offered to take the leftover home with her nicely boxed up by staff. I have to specifically mention our waitress Em. We could not have asked for better service from her, she was attentive and approachable and we felt so welcomed by her. Nothing we asked was ever too much and she did everything with a smile. We will definitely be returning!!

The day before their was a bull feast, which was all day and into the night. So we thought it would be to late to book a meal but know they rose to the occasion and dished us a superb meal.

Very concerning how one of the staff was so cross with one of the waitresses, she looked so upset and the man seemed uncaring as to how his behaviour affected the girl.and myself as the customer. He was banging the ashtrays on the table as I think he was indicating they weren't clean enough but I'd rather sit with a dirty ashtray than see this girl treated with no respect - upsetting

Stumbled across The Bull during a cycle ride. Lovely food served by two equally lovely members of staff, in a lovely outside space behind the pub. The halloumi and falafel wraps were served very quickly, and we both loved them. Perfect!

Really nicely refurbished since last time we visited

Popped in after visiting nearby Nursery. Although it was at the end of their lunch service and they were preparing for an evening food event, they kindly said they would provide us with food. We only wanted small portions, but both my fish & chips and my wife's chicken wrap were quite substantial, tasty and excellent value. Helpful, very friendly staff and plenty of outdoor seating, so we enjoyed eating in the sunshine. They were having a new pizza shack built, so pub ideal for warm evenings although their wooden huts offer seating areas if chillier. Good restaurant menu as well. Obviously a well-run popular village pub, well worth a visit.

As always the bull never lets you down. First rate food and drink with great staff. Fireplace settees are great if you can find them empty!

Meal was excellent although menu was a little small but I understand why it is cut down at the beginning of the week . Food was beautifully prepared and cooked. The chips were crispy outside and fluffy inside and the home made burgers were a treat. However the most outstanding thing was the service. Gill, who looked after us was a cut above. I would expect to find her calibre of service in a top class restaurant . She was welcoming. Helpful with requests that were a little different. Checking with the chef if things were available. There when we needed but not too intrusive. She made our dining experience a real joy. We will definitely be back. Gill has made sure of that She needs to be treasured and well looked after.

Lovely 14th Century pub. Tasty food served in generous portions. Service excellent with a good selection of wines. Had a business meeting with a Regular Patron who as such was spoiled rotten. Prices reasonable. I shall definitely return!

We went as a first visit for Sunday lunch. I tried to find out but forgot to ask when booking if they had a carpark. They have and it's the first time I was able to drive in to a space at the front. Lucky....

I came for lunch and ended up staying the entire afternoon working from one of the cow sheds at the back (see photos). I had the soup as a starter and the harvest bowl for mains. The food was amazing but only topped off by the amazing service from Gill with a G. I had forgotten what it was like to receive 5* customer service but Gill has restored my faith that you can still get excellent service in 2022. Make sure you treat her well and look after her. Brief response. The four of us wanted to meet for a family lunch and we had a good experience on our first visit here. Ambience, service and quality of food and presentation were good and we'd go again. It was not cheap but probably fair...

Use this pub quite a bit for meals - usually no complaints, but, on last visit disappointed that one of the main courses arrived just warm - which we sent back .It was returned completely heated through as it should have been. Unfortunately, the rest...

The cowshed was not prepared. Run out of pizza And bar b a sauce. Really. Then suddenly bar b q sauce appeared. Very disappointed. Had been recommended. Would not return. Manager was inexperienced and a nervous wreck.
