We are regulars here as we love the homemade pies. We meet regularly as a group of walkers and enjoy the food, wine and atmosphere. We bring our dog and sit in the snug dining area. We enjoy everything about this pub.

Lovely pub, good food, my only complaint is I found the portion sizes very small more like a child's portion size The curry was in a tiny bowl also only half a tiny bowl of rice. Very few potatoes on the other meals ,Apart from that a lovely friendly pub with a good variety of foods . Long wait for the food during the week although the place was empty.

Really lovely little pub. Like stepping back in time to Old English in the depths of Devon. Usually just pop in for a pint of Stowford Press & half a Becks on the way home, but tonight we stayed & experienced their pub food and it way exceeded our expectations. Just delicious & perfect presentation. With friendly service behind the bar every time we walk in - you can’t ask for more from a country pub. Quality stuff. Thank you & we’ll see you again soon. Best Wishes, xxxx

Nice pub and food tasty. However 2 of the meals were wrong. Even though it was all written down exactly. When this was pointed out, the waitress was reluctant to offer the correct choice saying it would be at least 15 mins. So we accepted them having already waited about 30mins. This is the 2nd time this has happened. My carotts arrived half way through my meal. with a cursory 'sorry' There was no genuine apology and no offer of coffees, a drink or reduction in the bill. Very disappointed at how they dealt with their mistake. I dought that we will return. Very sad as we walk in the area a lot.

Old fashioned, small traditional pub in a pretty rural location, popular with walkers and locals alike. Log fires, home cooked food, not pretentious at all. This is not a pub chains recreation of the traditional pub, this is the real thing, where horse brasses and copper kettles are the order of the day, and you can sit and read a paper, step back to the 1950's oblivious to the modern world whilst the rest of the world rushes by. The ladies toilet us inside, the gents in an an annex so man up in cold weather! If you boots are muddy, the landlord provides over shoes for you to wear. As there are no phone masts, phone connections in this area are poor, however the pub does provide wi-fi for customers. We enjoyed a home made burger and chips, McDonalds eat your heart out!

Really welcoming country pub. This is not a gastro pub in looks, but rather a proper old pub. We liked this, as there as now so many gastro pubs, which all look nearly identical. The barman was really friendly and so were the other customers. In some country pubs, you don’t always feel that welcome, but not in this case. The plates and other tableware are very old school and the menu is mainly pub grub, but don’t let that put you off, it is done exceptionally well. I had sausages and mash and it was full of flavour, with meaty local sausages, not stuffed full of filler and added water. Even gravy was also packed with flavour. My partner was also really impressed with her meal, so given the prices are very reasonable too, this places really deserves five stars.

This is the sort of pub you fantasise about finding after a long walk in the country. Comfortable, cosy and friendly, with superbly kept real ales (including a very good local Hadham IPA), a range of ciders and simple, but plentiful and very reasonably-priced food. In particular, try the excellent range of home-made pies. I came here in September, but I bet it will be even nicer in winter, with the open fires making the atmosphere even more enticing.

Having read recent reviews of this establishment we were keen to find out for ourselves. We looked forward to meeting the rude landlady and entering a pub from a previous century. We noted with glee their expectations of children’s behaviour and anticipated selecting a real ale from an average selection. We hoped the chef would be present as we were in need of a good Sunday lunch. Upon arrival we were greeted with a friendly smile: not a good start. I had difficulty in choosing my ale as the choice was fine: I plumped for a well looked after pint of Bass. Wendy opted for a Diet Coke which she reported to me to be fine. We ordered our food from a good menu, me roast pork, Wendy going for vegan sausage and mash. The vegan/vegetarian options here are very good. Then, it happened!! A toddler began whinging and crying in the restaurant. We waited for comments but sadly the child calmed down too quickly. Intervention not required. We ate our excellent meals in the company of other friendly folk, both local and others. Upon completion of our fine fare we mulled over the idea that we could play hide and seek but the wonderful old building didn’t appear to offer any places for us to hide. Our table was cleared with a smile and pleasantries so I decided upon another fine pint of Bass. We were disappointed to note Roger was not behind the bar, so on this occasion we couldn’t watch and listen to the amusing squabbling that occurs as he interacts with The Rude Lady. The lovely Hannah poured my pint and we chatted in what is a lovely village pub. Plenty of other visitors tucked into their lunch as we paid our bill, offered thanks and joined in humorous comments regarding the Grand National. 2 good meals, 2 pints of Bass and a glass of coke for way under £30. All was fine. If you don’t have children and, like us, prefer to have some time without children then we highly recommend this pub. If you do have youngsters that are prone to being noisy and running around restaurants then maybe another establishment would be more suitable. Thanks to The Rude Lady for looking after us so pleasantly. Next time we shall expect a good bust up with Roger! Jono and Wendy xx

I visited this pub as my grandad organised a mother’s day meal. They have signs saying children must be kept sitted and quiet at all times. My daughter is two years old and clearly excited to be out, her cousins were keeping her occupied by playing hide and seek so she was screaming with excitement I believe the bar manager come across and shut the door where we were sitting a number of times before this she made remarks about my daughter, I went to the bar and said to her do you have a problem which she replied the baby screaming is disrupting the pub bearing in mind there’s about two other people in the building, I told her she was rude as she didn’t even say anything just shut the door, I was then told she called my child a rat! Disgusting behaviour don’t cater for children if you don’t like them!!! Awful service!! Never ever will I visit this place ever again!! No wonder the pub is dead and outdated!!! Shut it down!!!

The staff are wonderful, chatty, friendly, helpful & nothing is too much trouble. Picked Rosey Lea because it has kerb appeal and there was a pretty terrace to enjoy the last of the summer. Had a simple lunch of baked potato and a glass of wine which came to £17.45. The spud was OK and came with a decent amount of salad. However, for that money I want a big, fluffy and really hot potato where the cheese is happily melting in to the mix. The one I had was warmish and smallish. Service was friendly but on the slow side.
