If you're constantly getting reviews saying how dirty or grubby the place is - why not do something about it? If the tables are sticky (which they most certainly are, as today we had to move twice and the third table was still just as bad) then why not replace them? Better still, save some money and clean them. The toilets? I visited in November (over two months ago) and the exact same dust covered toilet brush was sat behind the toilet festering in filth. As for the flushes - "please press both buttons hard". I'd rather not use both hands when I know for certain that they will not have been cleaned. The carpet could do with a clean, or just ripping up entirely as it's that black you can't even see the pattern underneath on some parts. Most of the time, the staff can just be seen stood behind the bar just chatting. Why not do some cleaning? As for the panini I ordered today, it was a good thing I was absolutely starving (after waiting even longer because they didn't get my order correct, and gave me a sandwich instead). I appreciate how they rectified the problem, but to literally just spread the filling from a sandwich to a panini when it looks like this is just, well... poor. I would like to keep coming back because we visit Chesterfield a lot and our first visit exceeded our previous ones - but something needs to be done, otherwise you will lose good custom. But it's literally like they don't even care and that's a shame.

My partner and I have been to the Golden Fleece on three different occasions. I always order the Cheese Panini with added tomato. It used to come with chips included but our most recent visit saw that they have changed the menu and taken the chips off and they are now an additional £1.50. My partner ordered the Steak Panini and we ordered a side of chips to share. The chips came after we'd both eaten half of our meals, like they had completely forgotten to do them at all because when they finally did arrive they were scorching hot and covered in oil. My panini was slightly luke warm too, but I was starving so couldn't be bothered to complain and just ate it. My partners was "okay" and that's about it. He said the bar service was decent. It seemed to be a lot busier than usual, but the TLC that needed doing from my last review still looks like it hasn't been touched. Decent enough food. Slightly tacky, old and dirty. Can't really think of a lot of places that do Panini's so you'll have my custom still. The chips are lovely, just a shame about all the oil.

We go quite often to the town of Chesterfield and on occasion in the past have visited the Golden Fleece. We popped in for a snack on Saturday, and first impressions were not great the alley way entrance was dirty and the tables had full ashtrays on them when you consider that it was only 12am it looks like they had been there a while. The tables look tatty and overall the bar has a rundown appearance,We placed our order and sat down the food came fairly quickly I had a steak panini and my wife the chicken and bacon salad ,this was ok bacon nice and crispy but the chicken was a little dry and I felt there was far to much lettuce. The place was very quite with a huddle of staff around the bar .Think they should get some cleaning done. The real problem came when I used the toilet they wer absolutely disgusting they were dirty and stunk to high heaven god knows when they were last cleaned but the manager/manageress should be ashamed of themselves, the concern I have if the toilets are like that what is the kitchen like. One thing for sure is a I will not be returning here again and I certainly would not recommend it to anyone either.

My partner and I don't know that many places in Chesterfield town centre to eat, and we'd already been to The Burlington but it was busy due to the football being on. We walked in and it was fairly empty, sitting in the downstairs area where there was only a young couple with a baby eating. There were no menus on the tables and it didn't appear to the cleanest of places. I didn't expect that much with the food hygiene rating being a four but I've seen worse. After seeing the Steak Sandwich that the other couple had ordered, my partner ordered that because it smelt and looked nice. I ordered a cheese and tomato panini, with there being an extra £1 charge for an additional filling (tomato) making it cost £5.95. Despite it being empty, we still waited around 15 minutes for our food to be prepared but it wasn't that bad. Both meals came with what looked like their own handmade chips with skin on, and they were huge. I couldn't even finish my meal off because I was full, so I can't really complain of the price when it did it's job of filling me up. We both reckon this place would be a lovely, with all the lighting coming through from the conservatory part as you walk in and the shape of the building but it's just lacking a little TLC. The place smelt a bit an old smoking pub, the wallpaper was missing bits and had rips in and the seating area at the bottom was a bit discoloured and creaky. If they refurbished the place, it would be a lovely little place to eat 🍅🧀

Decor inside feels a little dated on the lower seating area where we sat and feels like it could do with a little bit of a spruce up with some paint, hence the4 stars.

Been coming to Chesterfield for years but came across a board offering all day breakfast we venture in what we thought was an alley way which in actually fact is a lovely outdoor seating area, even more surprising when enter place was a bright modern and very clean pub. Menu although not massive is varied I opted for the bacon sandwich which came on lovely brown granary thick cut bread my partner had the scampi which came with the best chips we've ever tasted. Used to pop in lunch time quite often in past but since we have moved offices not been for a couple of years.Menu changed all sandwiches same price, which I think is a bit ridiculous as costs more to make a steak sandwich to a tuna one.We were pushed for time so ordered a steak and a tuna mayo after being told that the tuna mayo wasn't runny.Mine came and there was more mayo than wanted i.e. more mayo coloured than tuna but as we were pushed for time didn't complain. Mine was on granary but the bread was certainly not fresh as the bread was hard. My colleague had the steak on white and said it was nice and soft. The sandwiches came with chips which looked very nice and chunky, but having tasted a couple decided to leave them. To quote my colleague who said they tasted like they had been cooked in old oil.So very disappointed in all and certainly won't be going back.

We were hungry so seemed a nice place to get a sandwich or similar...... Decided to have a bacon and cheese panini and the wife had a tuna mayo panini....... It took an age to come so was beginning to wonder what on earth takes so long to make a panini, but then it arrived all was forgotten about the wait. I kept meaning to review this place, but got reminded when I picked up a voice mail yesterday. I booked a table here for an evening meal with my girlfriend, got there and found out that they didn't serve food after 5 o'clock. Needless to say I wasn't happy as I had booked online and planned a whole evening. We ended up going somewhere else, but that's when I got a phone call from (as I found out yesterday) the general manager. She was incredibly apologetic for the fact that we had booked a table and not been able to eat as their online system shouldn't have let me book it for that time of night. She offered us a free meal as compensation which, given that she didn't have to do anything and could have just ignored the situation, I think is just the epitome of excellent customer service. If the offer is still there, I would love to come and eat in your restaurant :) Keep up the amazing customer service!!

I always give new places and ideas a go - those trying them deserve a bit of support. Couple this with the fact that I'm a big fan of Spanish culture and food and I was looking forward to trying some tapas. I visited a little while ago (sorry for the lateness of this submission) so my grasp of fine detail isn't great but I know that we went as a family and a few bits and bobs cost £40. I don't mind paying that if the grub is good but, sadly, it wasn't really up to par. The chorizo bore no resemblance to what it should have done. The children's meals were OK (English fare) as were the nachos. Everything else wasn't much cop. I'll probably give it another crack and choose different things but will lower my expectations on the next occasion.

Anyway after a few minutes a lovely waitress explained to us that is was table service and asked us to pick a table she was very attentive and with the drinks ordered they came quickly. We decided to order the Tapas 5 dishes for £22.95 - Bread and olives, ( the dipping oil was unpleasant and only a drop of Balsamic vinegar in the bottom) - Meat balls (dry and a little chewy but flavor was good could have done with more sauce) - vegetable paella which was perfect, rice very tasty and not sticky - mushrooms in some garlic sauce were also excellent - salad was plentiful and delightful with lovely shavings of cheese on it. We were given some free potato wedges which were not worth eating soggy, and oily. The service was very good and the food came quickly. Overall bill was very reasonable with a two lagers and a bottle of wine £35.00. Atmosphere with Latin music playing in the background was great. Will go back and try again.

We visited prior to 2015, as mentioned to whoever deleted my review prior, and chose to spend our lunch meeting with friends by the door close to Top Shop and Greggs. Despite only ordering 4 toasted sandwiches, it took near enough an hour for them to reach our table. From where we sat, we could see members of staff just standing around, expected considering there were only ourselves and two other tables in use at that time. A slow service doesn't warrant over an hour for sandwiches. The quality when they arrived was bland and less tasteful than what could have been made at home

Very disappojntef with our experience to the golden fleece. The staff's customer service is terrible! They appear to be unable to communicate ! One waitress put a bowl of meatballs in front of my friends 7 month old who (not surprisingly) pulled it off the table onto himself. Luckily it was cold so he didn't scold himself! The staff only appeared to be concerned about the carpet; hovering about it stare at it! We had to ask them to bring another portion out to which she looked blankly at us. The tapas main ingredient seems to be salt and lots of it. Asked if they had a card machine to pay and the answer was just a yes; and she walked off. They gave us the wrong bill and when finally my friend politely told a senior member of staff how terrible it was, she just looked at her! I definitely wouldn't recommend it unless you want to feel very unwelcome, like bad food and non - existent customer service!

Finding the pub where we usually eat in Chesterfield, closed, we stumbled across this place. Had to wait to be served, and we were about to walk out (only 2 other tables had diners so it wasn't busy) when the waiter appeared. The table had not been wiped and still had crumbs on it and was all sticky, but we didn't want to make a fuss. We ordered the food and literally, it was served 2 minutes later, stinking hot, which means: microwave reheated job. I am only giving 2 stars because the waiter played a song I requested. I cannot of course say that the tapas aren't good as we didn't have any, this is based on our own personal experience

Decent Tapas, good value and friendly service. Not really a restaurant, town centre pub with noisy disco. Tables not particularly clean, sticky from previous diners, bit like Wetherspoons or Crown carvery. Not great for a relaxing evening out but ok for a quick bite!

We had tapas for 3, we had more than enough food and plenty of choice, our problem was the food wasn't hot in temperature, we did tell the waitress and she offered us a discount or some drinks. I think it might be due to the amount we ordered but we will know for next time. The bread that comes out with the starter is over whelming too big, and a lot of waste - I think this needs looking at.The staff were very good and friendly but not in your face.

We were in Chesterfield to go to the theatre, and decided to have a bite beforehand. Our first choice was packed out so we wandered along the high street and found the Golden Fleece. It advertised itself as a Tapas bar so we gave it a go. It was truly lovely, very quiet when we arrived but slowly filled up. The menu was well presented and their was a choice of "standard" or Tapas meals, we chose the fixed price set meal for £16, and it was great. The waiter/ barman was helpful and friendly and the food was spot on. The portions were about right and the flavours were fairly authentic we felt.

We came to Chesterfield for our last holiday in our caravan this season. And as we had a few things to purchase we popped into the town to take advantage of the excellent markets and shops this town as to offer, Anyway after a few hours of shopping we needed a break and some food and drink, We spotted the Golden Fleece down a passage way . The menu is a mixture of English and Spanish. The pub has a tardis feel to it ,there is a pleasant outside seating area then a open bar area then it carries on up some steps to another seating section. We were eating later that evening so only had a snack both of us had panni's mine steak and onions my wife chicken both came with home cut chips and a side salad. Both were excellent and service was quick and delivered by 2 very pleasant staff, we are looking forward to our next trip to Chesterfield so we can try the Golden Fleeces Tapas menu

My partner found this hidden spot amongst the shops whilst walking around chesterfield. On entering it was pretty quiet for half 1 in the afternoon but as we always enjoy trying new places we decided to stay. The gent who served us our drinks at the bar was very friendly and we then found a table to eat. The decor is a bit random, paintings on the walls with miss match furniture and just too much open space for my liking. In plsces like this I love seeing 'stuff', the kind of 'stuff' you have collected over the years at home, trinkets from holidays, homey christmas presents etc. I just expect to see a few cacti and some sombreros hanging from the ceiling etc. But that could all come in time as it usually takes a few years to collect well 'stuff'. Onto the food! They run a 5 for the price of 3 tapas deal which I always love due to the choice of food to eat. The menu was extensive and very informative of what you are about to order as some people are very opposed to blind ordering. So we picked our 5 and waited for our meals. They came in about 15 mins, and they came in force. We were not prepared. The dishes of tapas were brimmed to the edges of spicy goodness and we had a tray of nachos too. The food was hot, spicy and delicious, everything we could have wanted. We ate as much as we could but had to leave some as it is a very good portion sizes for tapas in a deal. So I suggest maybe 3 of you share or ditch the nachos for another dish or you will most likely be leaving some for waste. So despite the lack of 'stuff', the food is brilliant and we shall return in the future.

I love the idea of Tapas in Chesterfield and was very excited to try the 'new' Golden Fleece. They have done up the outside really nice and with the Spanish music playing out there you can fair imagine it will be a lovely place to sit in summer.Inside there are now a few paintings around the walls to contribute that Spanish vibe but other than that everything else is exactly the same. Same furniture, wall paper, even the pictures on the walls near the ladies toilets. That ruined it a bit for me in terms of the atmosphere. The staff were attentive enough and friendly but it's certainly not a high end eatery and you don't get treat that way either. The food was 'okay', reasonably priced but nothing that would draw me back there in a hurry. I have no idea what the chef was doing with sea salt either but it was all over the bread board and in the oil completely spoiling that part of the meal.I'm not saying I'd never go back there, I imagine having the option to have a tapas or 2 with a pint in the summer will be a pleasant thing... If it lasts that long.Hope they can improve things as its a good idea and one that would be a welcomed addition to Chesterfield.

Been in today for lunch, the first time since it has turned into a 'tapas'bar, and what a shame. The customer service let it down, had to walk in past the chef smoking outside, then wait for the manager to finish a phone call to get a drink, we ordered food which on the whole was nice, but had to ask for plates to eat the tapas off! no one came to ask how it was despite being really quiet and there being a lot of staff about, we didn't get asked how the meal was until we had finished and when we said nice except for the bread which was awful she just smiled said ok and walked off, leaving us a bit stunned and sat looking at dirty empty plates! As we walked out the manager just looked at us and didn't even say bye! Overall very disappointing and we wont be back which is such a shame!

First visit since it's recent refurbishment and they've done a nice job. The beer garden has been improved with 'sails' covering the exposed areas and new wicker furniture, also hanging baskets and border plants which creates a nice atmosphere. Inside it's all had a 'refresh' with fresh paint, and some nice murals echoing the 'tapas & salsa' theme. They now do table service and have added to their existing menu with tapas options etc, which now caters for a wider audience. Staff now have distinctive uniforms, which is a nice touch. We ordered cheese & ham panini with chips & salad to share and it was both delicious and plentiful. Will once again be a regular customer.

the food here was fabulous and great value for money with generous portions. I ordered a fish finger sandwich that i thought would be bog standard fish fingers and was pleasantly surprised when it came and they were home-made fish gougons with a layer of mushy peas for good measure and gorgeous home-made chips. Lovely friendly staff too
