Excellent food for a very reasonable price. Nice atmosphere too. Thoroughly recommended for a nice mid-week evening out and weekend celebration.

Had a great meal here tonight. We both had the Fish and chips and Mushy Peas. We got 2 fish each, both cooked to perfection. I’m not a lover on big chunky chips, but again, cooked spot on. It was a real plateful. Staff were excellent. This place has come a long way from where it was. Well done.

Went for Sunday Lunch this afternoon and it was brilliant. The food was amazing along with very friendly staff! Would highly recommend!

Different place but very expensive

Basic fare. Nothing special. Not a great selection on the menu. Ordered cheese and garlic bread extra which didn't turn up. Told the waitress and she returned some time later (when we had finished the main course) with a portion of cheesy chips. When we queried it she replied that they had run out of bread!!

Excellent food choice,very well prepared and presented. Not long to wait before it arrived. Very reasonably priced and served by really helpful and pleasant staff. Dog friendly, even had dog biscuits on the bar. We went because it was quiz night and we weren't disappointed. It was a bingo themed quiz which made it all the more interesting and the quiz was free to enter. There were free homemade buns at half time and free homemade chips after the quiz. The evening was completed by another roll-over card game, which was unexpected but lovely. This was one of the best family evening events I have been to in a long time, well done to the staff. Do I need to add that we will be back soon.

I rang up before I got there. When I got there the was a guy before me just walked in saying you still doin food the girl behind the bar said no we have stopped so he walks off and I said iv come for food have you stopped serving she says no 7pm Tuesday night ordered food I wanted to double up on the rump done it before here she said no you can't do it got food they had forgot peppercorn sauce I waited about 10 mins after my food had already arrived the steak was very fatty ate about half of it what was actual meat the rest was rock hard they came over and asked how everything was I said about the steak and she said there's nothing I can do about it (why come over and ask how it was then) her overall attitude was like she had somewhere better to be and I felt like she didn't want to be there at least crack a smile. It used to be a good place to eat and wonder why it keeps changing ownership. I'll definitely be avoiding it from now on. Parking was ok but if you park at the back its dark and struggle to see the white lines on the floor at night

Went for Sunday lunch today and it was spot on. All starters were piping hot and decent portions. The two small beef dinners were well presented, a good sized, and the extra gravy and cauliflower cheese was a nice touch.... cauliflower cheese was delicious by the way! I had the fish and chips, beer battered fish was tasty and beautifully cooked. Home made chips were a hearty size and a real treat, no frozen fries here!! We then succumbed to desserts and again, really lovely, good food. The attentive service, unrushed and relaxed, with quality food, decent portion sizes and fresh ingredients all well presented, mean that we will definitely be back.

Not the best public house I have been in. But a nice public house .

Went on Boxing Day it was a christmas present from my son and daughter in law. Arrived at 3pm, the place was cold. Ordered food which took 30mins to arrive not a problem as there were 6 of us. But, only 4 meals arrived complete, one half complete, 2 were incorrect and 1 arrived after about 10 mins, which was wrong. 5 mins later the same item returned with onion rings which was also incorrect at which point my son gave up. The food which did arrive was tepid or overcooked or cremated. The manager made a tame excuse, offered a free round of drinks WOW. It was without doubt the worst meal ever and I am 71yo. I was very upset as it was a family celebration ruined.

We all ate from the Christmas menu, we had 2 courses and it was absolutely delicious. We all had turkey and all the trimmings. The vegetables were properly cooked and even the gravy was lovely. For puddings we had Xmas pudding , chocolate cherry mousse and duo of desserts. We all said it was the best pub Christmas meal we’d had in a long time. The food tasted home cooked, presentation was spot on and the pub had a great atmosphere. Compliments to the chef and to the young lad that served us! He was very friendly. We have said we’ll definitely go back again soon.

Booked a table for 5 few weeks ago, they rung my friend this morning to ask if we could go an hour early at 530 because they wanted the table by 7. This wasn’t convenient to us so we cancelled the table. Really bad way to run a business, obviously the people who were booked in at 7 were a bigger party, all down to money crosses my mind 😡

The starters and desserts were fine but the main courses were a big letdown. The turkey looked as though it was sandwich turkey, not fresh turkey. The mashed potatoes were cold and the roast potatoes were almost impossible to cut through. The stuffing was tough to cut into. Everyone in the party struggled to eat the meal. Our vegetarian member said her meal was dry as no vegetarian gravy had been served for her. She was told that all the gravy on the table was vegetarian which suprised us us as 1. We weren't told about this and 2. We had never come across vegetarian gravy having been served for everyone as standard anywhere else before. One family member had ordered cod and when he commented on the very small quantity of vegetables with it he was told that as fish was so expensive smaller poritions of veg were served with it to compensate. There service was very friendly but dreadfully slow. After going to Blue Stoops for years it is unlikely that we will return in future. What a shame!!

Updating my review from 5 years ago. Gave 5 stars then but in my opinion it went downhill and we stopped visiting. However we've since returned and the new owners have turned it around again. Lovely atmosphere and great service. Food is delicious. Yesterday I had the "Mixed grill Madness!" Wow! £10.99 bargain. Everything cooked to perfection!

Today I popped in to the blue stoops on my way back home and what can I say the service was amazing and the homemade French onion soup was out of this world I would definitely be going back soon I would advise to book

Food is very nice, service is quick and all well priced. Space is limited so I'd recommend booking in advance.

Terrible food, worst mixed grill I've had, dry over cooked meat, cold chips. Table very sticky, not cleaned properly

This was my first visit here since the new owners / managers took over and in general we were pretty happy with everything. The service was a bit on the slow side despite it being quite quiet but we enjoyed our meals when they did arrive. The gammon didn’t have the promised onion nest on the plate but when we asked the young waitress dealt with the situation really well and we got rewarded with an extra nest too which was appreciated. I chose the fish medley and it was very tasty and of course the best thing are the homemade chips. The mushy peas were proper ones and the tartare sauce was very tasty too. The scampi meal was enjoyed as well but the portion of scampi was perhaps a little on the mean side for the price. Overall the standard of food is still excellent and it remains a reliable favourite for pub grub.

Not been here before so thought we would give it a bash on menu 2 for £15.00 I had chicken with Diane sauce ,chips & peas Husband pie ,chips & peas. My Diane SAUCE !!was saute mushrooms on top of a piece of chicken ..over cooked on one side (took home for dogs ) and home made under cooked wedges Husbands pie was over cooked and dry and same wedges not chips Staff were lovely service on bar quick ...just a shame the food spoilt the visit . Very disappointed as it looked good x

We was there for coffee morning, very nice cakes and very friendly staff, going back soon.

Called for lunch, and whilst it was very quiet the atmosphere was welcoming. Our food however wasn’t anywhere near the standard that we’d received for our recommendation to go to for kings. I had a jacket potato that was no bigger than a tennis ball, and felt like it had been cooked in the microwave and left to shrivel all morning, and was very dissatisfied with the little pot of processed cheese. The other meal ordered was a chicken baguette and it too appeared to be processed/packet cooked chicken that had been reheated, and served with the smallest salad. For £6 for the jacket and £7 for the sandwich, it wasn’t anywhere near the standard where I’d have anticipated it would have been. A real shame, but we shall not be returning nor recommending the blue stoops.

Well what a turnaround on the Sunday lunch food from the previous owners. I vowed not to return after reheated belt leather type beef and cold veg. Took my 87 year old father out for a hopefully nice lunch treat for him. Spoke to both the new people running it on arrival, and the chef prior to ordering, and they assured me the beef would be as I would like it, melt in the mouth, and it was :-) Veg fab not overcooked, cauli cheese always has to be a Sunday lunch staple veg so hoorah. The staff were sooooo friendly, welcomed my dog Alfie despite his initial panic barking, as did other customers making a fuss of him. Please guys, now it's this good could you do me Sunday roast beef dinner every day after work ?? I'd be there !!! See you soon for sure :-)

We entered the dining area and we were not greeted by anyone. The one person of staff was doing some cleaning behind the counter and completely ignored us until she finished her business for some endless time. When she finally greeted us like some kind of nuisance that had entered the pub there was another couple waiting as well and we were all told that the kitchen was already closed (5 past 8pm) while they had clearly served food to some customers a few minutes before (clearly it had been a busy day with people returning home from Chatsworth Country Fair and stopping for some food). I am afraid that rude non caring staff gets 1 star from me regardless of everything else.

Hot Fresh cooked home made food.

Deleted my 3 star review from last year as this visit was a big improvement from last time. Food was very nice. The place is a lot cleaner and the staff were attentive and nice.

Nothing mighty about the mixed grill and I had the salmon which was pink and looked like it been thrown on the plate asparagus was un chewable , not very good service looked miserable so no I won't be going again shame cos it used to be a decent meal there

Had a fantastic meal at the blue stoops last night . Couldn't fault it, I had the chesterfield burger which came with a very generous helping of their home made Stilton sauce. Also the home made chips are worth the visit alone. Will definitely be back again.

What a lovely atmosphere. Busy friendly and such great food. We came on quiz night, place absolutely buzzing, but the food and service were excellent. Polite efficient staff and quick service for the number of tables booked. Definitely will be going again, and soon! Well done Sharon and Paul

Staff not available all the time. Food was good. However the food is not always good, a bit hit and miss!

we visited here for my grandads birthday, a surprise birthday ill add. Once we arrived here, the place itself is lovely. the atmosphere was warm and cosy and had a old-style-tavern feel. So the place itself is nice, but then.. came the food :( We all had Sunday lunch with the normal amenities like stuffing and vegetables etc; but when it came to getting our food, we soon realised the wait wasn't worth it. Most meals (including my meal) were stone cold. The meat was horrendous and considering they "warmed the meal up because it was cold" it was almost unedible. A few bites I had of my beef and I wasn't at all impressed. Just the like the beef and all the other meats my family had, the veg and all the other amenities were again, cold. even after warming it up it was warm but not appetising at all. Very dissapointed and upset by the food, my grandad also was not happy, on his birthday! of all days to be unhappy... The staff was ok in terms of customer service, however; the staff kept asking us what we had ordered constantly which made everyone quite annoyed. So, what needs work? Well, all the staff (MOSTLY the chefs) need to have a sit down and really consider reviews like this one and a few others; and instead of closing down, improve on the meals and improve on the way you cook them. With all this being said, I will not be visiting blue stoops again.

Nine of us called for a pre-ordered Sunday Lunch time meal. Drinks served to the tables. Main meal was an excellent choice of Sunday Lunch beef and pork meals and, to be different, I had a Chicken Tikka Masala and poppadoms. Service was quick enough with a full room of diners, the plates well filled and the meal was piping hot. Dessert was a selection of hot pies, cakes, sponges and ice cream – all of good quantity and quality – the Ice Cream Sundae is well worth a try if you need filling up ! The bill split between us came to around £17 each including drinks – a reasonable amount for a decent filling meal. We will certainly return to see the New Management again.

We visited for grandads birthday and I am severely disappointed. Upon arrival our server did not know the state of our preorder insinuating we had 4 meals missing. However we confirmed a few days prior When it came to seating us there was 14 of us . Our tables were not set up in any way and had to sort them out ourselves with no help from staff Now let’s eat! …. We all ordered a variety of foods and for some reason most of the meals came out one by one almost like they cooked a meal and bought it out before cooking the next one. Further more a lot of the plates of food were stone cold. A few were sent back for reheating once and even a few twice! I personally will not be visiting this establishment again

Thought I would try the beefburger but alas tasted like pork sausages, still ok but not a beef burger.

Been 3 times now and no mixed grill on despite the signs outside advertising it, does it exist! last week went on Monday for steak night but no steaks or mixed grill as meat not delivered, got there ar 5.45 tonight, wasn't busy but all tables reserved except one which we got, ordered mix grill, had run out but did have steaks on for steak night, had a rump steak instead, staff didn't know the cost on a Monday but till would work it out correctly when I settled??- when meal arrived there was no onion ring nest or grilled Tomatoes, when I questioned i was told they'd run out of tomatoes (although plenty of halved tomatoes on salads) and as it was steak night and cheaper than normal so you don't get onion nest (ie not the meal on the menu) had i have known you didn't get tomatoes or onion rings i would have paid normal steak price as discount only around £4!! and had the meal i thought I ordered) Food itself was ok but service spoiled my experience and won't be rushing back - As an aside, as we got the last table, an elderly couple came in 5 minutes after us and were being turned away so we invited them to sit on our table, we finished our meal and they finished theirs and more than half the tables were still free, surely you get a time for the bookings and could have offered them a table and a time limit, needs looking at although we enjoyed their company, all in all not great!

Our favourite local restaurant just got better! Always loved it here, but now they have home cooked chips and delicious meal choice on the specials menu (melt in your mouth salmon) to make it even better. Also now open all afternoon too, so can pop in when we walk the dog! We'll done to the new owners - and good luck 👍

You get what you pay for,not bad quality food steak was cooked great but the quality of the meat was poor,no onion nest on mixed grill madness ...not a bad place for some cheap grub

We visited Blue Stoops last Sunday together as family after hearing good reviews about their food on the Chesterfield “grapevine”. Good, doesn’t come close. Where meals are concerned, in this economic climate, you’re finding prices rising to maintain quality. Or prices maintained and the quality not what it was. The meals we had were not only reasonably priced but the quality, and quantity, was terrific value for money. The beef melted in your mouth. We wish the new owners all the best and we will certainly be visiting again. This time to try out the midweek fare!

This place looks good now under new management. I'd a butterfly chicken & 6oz rump steak combo. With chips salad and peas. The quality was much better than last time. Although prices have greatly increased since I last dined, I have no hesitation recommending the food if the standards are maintained.

Just been for Sunday Roast dinner. New landlord and landlady Paul and Sharon were really lovely and welcoming. The food was fantastic, great value and the service brilliant. Will definitely be back and will recommend to others.

We have been here before and it was lovely. Unfortunately we have been again today for lunch. We ordered drinks and sat down. My husband ordered us both the mix grill on the deal at £10.99 each on Monday and Tuesday but normally on any other day would be £18.49. For nearly £20 a meal I'd expect homemade chips not frozen. The food was dripping in Greece. We left most of the meal and took the meat home for the dogs. (Even my dog turned her nose up at it) the place was filthy. Window ledges, fire area, toilets, windows all filthy. I mentioned it to staff who clearly wasn't interested and found it funny behind the bar. Wouldn't recommend. Save your money for another venue

It had been a while since we last visited the Blue Stoops, but is now becoming our favourite place to stop off while walking around the area. Having initially just called for drinks, we were tempted by the 2 for £15 menu and ordered pie...

The pub is very run down and the Gents toilets were filthy - looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. I certainly wouldn't want to eat there knowing the standard of hygiene they maintain.

Hair found in food, sent back, no apologies so cancelled rest of my meal, half of the menu not available, sarcastic staff and overall really gone downhill since last visit WILL NOT be visiting again ..

Spent over £80 on meals today. Sunday roast, Beef couldn't cut it , mind eat it. Was absolutely disgusting. Asked to speak to manager, never came. No apology. Nothing. Would not recommend this place.

Had a fantastic meal today, good selection on menu, not just Sunday roast. First class staff and service and the food was excellent, asked for extra gravy and custard no problem and no extra charge. Would recommend a visit.

Visited since taken over ownership and unfortunately it is not the same quality or food. The staff were good but 2 mess had to be sent back as not warm enough and not particularly appetising , think the kitchen staff and menu needs an overhaul

I come up to the stoops alot with my family as its the one of the only places my nan will come- she has dementia and gets confused alot, she is also gluten free. The staff are always very welcoming and so helpful. The chefs come out to talk to my grandma about what she can have and makes her feel very comfortable. There is a wide choice on the menu for everyone and they always have boards full of specials as well. This week I chose to have the mac and cheese, which is my favourite special they have. We also had a plate of loaded fries for the table. We had the cajun chicken one, it was a very generous portion. The rest of the table had specials including the hand rolled cornish pasty and the mushroom and Stilton burger. My nan (gf) had a gammon with pineapple and chips, she was very pleased with this. Most of the puddings are gluten free as well which is very refreshing for my nan who usually can't have pudding when she goes out as places don't tend to cater. My nan had the lemon meringue pie and my grandfather was very pleased to see his favourite of home made tiramisu on the special board. Not a bad price, and the experience over all is lovely, the staff are always great even when having to deal with difficult requests.
