The Golden Crown in Watford

I used to have a favourite Chinese takeaway restaurant that was in Bushey, which has sadly shut down due to the owner retiring. For the longest time I couldn't find a Chinese takeaway which came anywhere close to the delight of stuffing myself with their food, until I ordered from Golden Crown. My girlfriend who is rather picky, gives Golden Crown 2 thumbs up 👍👍 My usual orders consist of: Spare ribs peking style (which are great) Egg fried rice (can't go wrong, and Golden Crown does not go wrong) Chicken Chow Mein (Yum!) Kung Po Chicken (Juicy thick well textured bits of chicken and thick sauce) Beef in Black bean sauce (great beef great sauce) Crispy Chilli Beef (great beef again, slightly chewy which I like - not crunchy) Spring rolls = good And to top it off of course they treat you to free prawn crackers.

We really enjoyed the set meal for four people easy to order, and delivered on time.

This was the first Chinese restaurant I ate at in watford and then I’ve turned into a repeat customer since then. I love their chow mein, the flavors are amazing, the service is great, and it makes you feel right at home.

We ordered King prawn with egg fried rice.large portion and very tasty free delivery too. Nice and polite staff good service

Lived in Watford for nearly 8 years now and for what I order (black bean, duck pancakes, chow mein, chicken balls) this is the best. The duck is always on the bone and never too dry, and the prices have remained really consistent last few years. One of the only Chinese’s where you can get rice/dish mixed in one for a cheaper more affordable (1 time meal) price. Smash out orders and the young lady/lad on the front desk are always sound.

Worst food stay away at all cost!!!!! Chicken is terrible chips are soggy the noddles are disgusting please stay away worst Chinese I’ve had in a long time

Always find the food quite salty, however, it is very local to us.

My scoring may seem too good as only God gets 10/10 but the ratings are less than they should be. The food is authentic and just the right amount of sauces and spices. Staff are friendly and helpful and would be difficult to beat as it taste like a proper restaurant!

Absolutely amazing value and big portions. It’s one of the best takeaway Chinese I’ve had. We had the crispy shredded beef, salt and pepper prawns, chicken curry and pineapple rice. Everything was way better than the average rating here suggests, that’s why I feel the need to write this review.

Pitty!The food i ordered was looking nice and smells more nice!I was so hungry,i started to eat,and surprise:VERRYYYY SALLTYYYY!I tried to dont mind,i ate half of the portion and i decided to call them and telling them(i ordered 2 portions).They was nice and told me to bring back the food ,so they will cook another 2 portions for me,the king prawns was still there (verryyy salty),they just changed the noodles!Sorry but it was my first and last time ordering from you!When i said SALTY,is mean SALTY!

crispy beef was just crispy batter. Mixed starters were greasy . The price has gone up. Not worth it and won’t order again

Me and my fmily order food for over many years but recently started feeling different less sauce meat and veg . Less quantity for the money.

I don't often eat Chinese but when I do this is the place for me. The dishes I order are consistently good, its normally a speedy delivery and the staff are very friendly on the phone. Highly recommend these dishes in my photo 👍🏻

I do use this take away normally and have no real issues. We decided to order Chinese on New Years Eve. I anticipated that due to Tier 4 restrictions they would be busy. Clearly they did not. I phoned at lunchtime to ask if we needed to pre-order due to NYE and was told they would be fine. Phone your order through as normal once open. I phones between 6.30pm and 7.00pm. Both lines were engaged ( I found out one is used for the credit card terminal) and the two occasions I did manage to get through, I was asked to hang up so that they could process a transaction. I drove to the take-away and ordered/paid at 7.10pm. They were clearly busy. Told delivery would be around 90 minutes. I called them at 9.15pm and was told it would be within 30 minutes. I called again at 9.50pm and a hysterical girl told me she didnt know which driver it was with but would call me when the driver was on his way. I called at 10.20pm and she told me it was out for delivery but had forgotten to call me to let me know. Delivery arrived after 10.30pm. Food was fine and hot. My main gripe was the communication. If you know it'll be 2-3 hours you can plan around it. As we were given crap information, it ruined our evening, and no call or apology since. I know they were 'hit for six'. I thought they would be. Just don't understand how they didn't anticipate this. Other take-aways stopped taking orders when they realised they would struggle but this one didn't. Disappointing and the mark down is due to comms. Please be honest with people if you are struggling.

Me and my boyfriend always order small chips, plain chicken curry and egg fried rice and we’ve never been disappointed! He’s a fussy Eater and we try a lot of places but we order from here at least once a week!! We’re really obsessed with it... the lady is really friendly and delivery is extremely quick too! After a few weeks lockdown closure due to CV19. It's been closed for business, however I'm pleased to say it is once again open for take always and may I say it was well worth the wait. The food was just beautiful. Welcome back golden crown, nice to taste you once again.

I regularly order food from the Golden Crown. It is an unpretentious, good quality and reasonable value take-away with quite a varied menu. The food is always delivered in reasonable time, hot and invariably delicious. I'm happy to recommend this place.

Have been using this takeaway for more than 25years, and the food is always excellent. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad meal here! It is reasonably priced and a cut above purely takeaway restaurants. Sometimes the wait for delivery can be long (have waited 1 hour + on occasions), but to me that is a good sign, because they are always busy and popular.

The egg fried rice with no soy sauce is proper nice.. They know I have fish allergies and are spot on everytime.. You may have to be patient with phone ordering if you have specific requirements, people forget there manners when there hungry!!! The waiting time can be a little longer than most but overall its everything I'd expect from a high street Chinese takeout/delivery and definitely not as greasy as most.

After a few late deliveries Golden Crown have redeemed themselves the past couple of times and things seem to be back to normal. Great tasty food and delivered well within the stated time for our past 2 orders.

Over 2 hours wait !!!! They need to sort their delivery waiting times I ordered at 9:15pm and I'm still waiting at 23:30 REALLY! Will call and cancel and be going to bed hungry!!!! Don't Order from here .....

My food still hasn't arrived. I'm Not impressed. I keep calling the restaurant. And they keep saying it'll be 15 minutes. This isn't the first time I've had an issue with this restaurant. I will not use them again.

Delivery went from 45 mins when we ordered to then an additional 30 mins on top. Ordered over £50 so requested lemonade as our free drink but received coke. No free prawn crackers and still got charged delivery. Very disappointed as always our favourite take away place. Perhaps order direct in future

Had salt and pepper prawns, satay chicken and Singapore noodles and everything was spot on. Really good. Always love this place and tonight was even better than usual!

They gave us the wrong order then they thought they hung up and we heard them saying we are bad customers and that we always complain.Very bad service they always give us the wrong order. Food is average I suggest you do not order here we asked for a refund they refused so we'd eaten all the food by time the other dish THEY got Rong arrived we was all full up PATHETIC!
