We waited over two hours for our order to be delivered. I phoned and complained and they said it was on the way. After 2 and 1/2 hours it still had not arrived, so we went to the shop. The order had not even been cooked and they were really rude and dismissive. Also they were still taking orders despite knowing that they could not fulfil orders. Disgusting. Avoid.

A friend recommended ordering from here after having take away for mothers day. We have eaten a lot of Chinese take away and got to say was very impressed with the food. It was very tasty arrived warm and nit oily like some Chinese food we've eaten locally. Really enjoyed! So deserves 5 star 🌟

Went 5.30pm as soon as it opened. We placed the order and because they were being kept busy with the online delivery orders. Our order took long. No fault it shows you how popular the place is. The food was very good and the staff at the front was always updating us and apologising for the delay. We will most certainly be going again. Tasty food.

An absolute piss take ordered nearly two hours ago? And still haven’t received my order? Delivery driver needs the sack it’s a piss take! Won’t be ordering again!

Mushroom chow mien was really nice but crispy chill beef was tasteless no chilli

Not been here for years but the had Thai dishes on the menu and my usual restaurant was closed. Very limited selection of Thai dishes that aren't really what I'd have expected. They should stick to Chinese dishes.

Best takeaway in Hertfordshire, consistently good, flavour is tiptop, service and speed is tiptop👌👌

By far the best Chinese takeaway on St Albans Rd. Be sure to try the Mixed Hors d'oeuvres and the King Prawn with ginger & spring onions. Yummy!

Good food but can be hit and miss. Food can be really oily but very tasty as a treat once in a while.

Delicious food delivered when stated. Pleasantly not too much salt in the dishes! Our first time and would use again.

Please do not be fooled by the outside of the place. Although admittedly the front looks quite grotty, the food they serve is lovely. The only complaint would be the time of the delivery, The estimated time of an hour went past and it was another 40 minutes before they arrived. When I called to enquire as to the whereabouts of the food they just said they were busy. Fair enough but wouldn't it be good customer service for someone at the take away to call their customers just to keep them informed?

I'm not going to give five stars ...because that would be hard to maintain, what I will say though, is that these guys/girls consistently serve me quality HOT fresh takeaway food. I like them alot

I can’t comment on the delivery service but for collection the service is always great. Food is of good quality and the portions generous.

3 hour wait for food which was over cooked and lukewarm. Customer service appalling, didn’t seem bothered when contacted them after 1.5 hrs wait, stating hadn’t even started preparing order as busy. Took 2 further calls before order arrived. Never using them again

Moved to norfolk 4 years ago and missed slow boat,Back in Watford today and just had the best Chinese ever,would recomend,

Instead of slow boat suggest they rename it dead-slowboat. 2.15 hours still no food and attitude of staff is disgusting. "What do you want me to do about it" was their answer when I asked how much longer my order was going to be. When it comes eventually I hope to bloody God it is out of this world. Please though, everyone, avoid diarrhoea Dave in future

Absolutely disgusting service, the food is always lovely, however expecting you to wait 2 hours for a delivery is just ridiculous, barely even an apology, chased after 1hr40 mins to be told they hadn't even started cooking it. Will not be using them again.

Absolutely love Slow boat. My parents have ordered here since I was a kid. I'm now 28 & living on my own with my own family & still order from here. Staff are lovely as always, food is lovely as always. They say delivery can take up to an hour & a half on the weekends but they always deliver alot sooner. Cannot fault you guys

When am hungry it's my favourite take away.

Ordered from here rather than our usual takeaway - what a mistake! Delivery was longer than expected and when it eventually arrived, it left a lot to be desired! First of all, when unpacking the food from the bag, i noticed there was some sort of liquid all over everything. This was later identified as sauce from one of the dishes, it had got into some of the other packages. The food itself was mediocre at best. This next bit is pretty horrific so please read! While eating his food, my father noticed something sharp in his mouth. He quickly took it out to find it was a 5cm long piece of metal! After an inspection of the metal, it appeared to be part of a scourer which actually cut his mouth! Disgusted, my husband called to complain. They must get a lot of things like this happen as they quickly told him it was part of the scourer used on the pans and to go in to collect a refund! Disgusting place!

We’ve used this takeaway 4 times now and the food has always been nice. We used to use another restaurant but the food was inconsistent and quite expensive for a take away. Deliveries from Slow Boat can be hit and miss even hellishly slow but if you collect it works better in our opinion. For the price it’s much better than any other Chinese take aways in the area. If you want gourmet Chinese food you’re best off sitting in a restaurant and paying a lot more. :-)

TOOK 2 HOURSE FOR OUR FOOD TO BE DELIVERED AND ALL WE GOT WHEN IT WAS DELIVERED WAS A SORRY ABOUT THAT, NO DISCOUNT. WHEN WE REPEATEDLY RANG UP THE LADY WOULD PUT US ON HOLD AND THEN SAY THE FOOD IS COOKING. WE WILL NOT BE ORDERING AGAIN. I WILL MAKE ANOTHER REVIEW CONCERNING THE FOOD AFTERWARDS

Delivery time was 10min earliar than I was told which was great. The crispy duck was nice. All other dishes were okay. I ate it all but I have had better. I would still come back and order again.

Absolutely awful food, worst Chinese I’ve ever had hands down, do not order from here!!

We have always had a great take away from here, for many years. But we had such a disappointment when it took over 2 and 1/2 hours to arrive and then all the dishes had been packed out with Onion!!!! Won't be ordering here again!

Another good takeaway from Slow Boat. Arrived hot and 10 mins before stated time. Lovely tender meat dishes with a good quantity of meat. Less greasy than other Chinese I have experienced. Will use again.

Ordered chow mien and prawns in salt and chilli. Plus spring rolls. The chow miens were good. The beef was tender and the chicken was also tender. The prawns were good with just enough spice. However the spring rolls were a bit soggy. Would order the chow mien and prawns but not the spring rolls. Nothing to write home about but nothing to complain.

Ordered on a Saturday night, spent £60! They told us the wait was one hour and 20 minutes we said ok fine but thought that was quite long. The time past and it still hadn't arrived we rang up after an hour and 30 minutes to be told they hadn't even cooked it yet and will start it now! It arrived 2 hours and 5 minutes after we placed the order. When I rang to complain the woman said I could have £10 off my next order because I will never order from there again she gave me £10 off the bill. To be honest I don't think this is sufficient! Regardless of the food quality I have never waited so long for a takeaway!

Only ever use this takeaway for Chinese food. Nice selection. It is a good everyday fare. No real surprises but always hot and tasty.

Have ordered last night the pork balls was discusting over cooked.and the chill beef wasnt crispy.will not be ordering g from here again..

Best Chinese in Watford, excellent food.

Had another takeaway from here and it turned out to be very poor indeed. Dishes were very salty and all covered in a sweet gloopy sauce. This included the spare ribs and chinese style chicken. Shrimp rice had 4 prawns in it. Spring roll was all pastry. Most thrown away. Not good, not cheap so will be trying elsewhere from now on. PS Meal delivered on time so no problem with service

Bit disappointed with the food this time, normally very good. Food ordered wasn't what was delivered, rice was a different rice dish. Food was okay but lacked seasoning. Delivery time was okay and cost was pretty standard. Would try again as normally better quality, although I may collect.

staff are easy to understand, very helpful and friendly.with quick delivery times i spent a long time trying all Chinese around watford to find one that was nice, slowboat are the best by a long way, nothing else even comes close! order elsewhere and you will regret it. best Chinese i have ever had! 10/10

Food quality varies depending on the chef. Can be expensive for quality and portion size. There are better takeouts nearby, but it's perfectly fine.

I definitely would not recommend this restaurant. I ordered an orange chicken and the sauce that came with it smelt awful. The oil needed changing, I didn't realise until I got home and when I pointed this out to them they said they would do this I went back again one more further time and again the oil had not been changed. I never went back there again the food was pretty awful tasting compare to other local Chinese restaurantsand take aways

We have lived in Watford for over 30 years and once we found The Slow Boat, we have never gone anywhere else for a Chinese takeaway. Helpful staff, food is always good.

Ok so the front of the shop needs a little bit of an update and it's not on the nicest road in Watford....but do not let that put you off going inside!Slow boat is one if the best Chinese take away albs I have ever tasted! The beef in black bean is so tender and the crispy chilli beef is deeeeeelish!!! Delivery can be a bit slow (although has very much improved) but if you can, go and collect! My fave Chinese take away by far!

The food is excellent!!!!!!! dont be deceived by the look of the place, the food is wonderful and not expensive, we have tried many and this is the best by far!

Called in just before closing and bought a chicken with rice dish. The meal was very tasty and the service was happy, friendly, courteous. I now prefer to go there rather than any other chinese takeaway

best food for takeaway in watford. I have been having food from there since 1995 and the quality is real good from then.

I have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions and have always been very pleased with the service. Last time I took my two teenage grandchildren with me and although I hadn't previously booked, we were given a nice table in a quiet corner where we could enjoy the food while having a chat among ourselves. The staff were very efficient and didn't keep us waiting too long between courses. The food was good although the portions were a little small compared to other restaurants. When we asked for our bill, the staff seemed to be a little bewildered and we had to wait for almost twenty minutes before we could leave the restaurant. Other than that, everything was fine and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family.
