Staff, beer and food are all utterly top notch. I am really loving this pub now. No more stupidly loud music, no drugs, no underage drinks, no pervs or paedos. This is a genuinely nice pub. The bar staff are utterly wonderful!

Excellent Sunday lunch today. We found the Golden Cross by chance and will definitely be returning. A coeliac's heaven with their 100% Gluten Free kitchen. Our coeliac son is currently studying at Coventry University and I suspect he'll be popping in now and again! Keep up the great work and thankyou 😁

This is said to be the oldest pub in Coventry (they post the history on the back of the menu on the tables) and is very welcoming. Employees are friendly, as were some of the locals there. Food was very good, and catered for dietary requests without any issue. There was a wide range of gins, vodkas and they also served real ale. The overall atmosphere was lovely, and definitely a pub I would recommend, helped by its location near Coventry Cathedral which adds to its list of positive reasons to choose it as a place to visit for a drink and/or food.

Awesome vegan options. Tofish and chips £15. So refreshing to have a pub serving homemade and fresh vegan options. Plus it’s very quaint with some cute nooks. It’s nice to sit near the windows as it has a bit more light. There is an upstairs if downstairs is busy.

This is a very pleasant pub with friendly staff. A reasonable range of real ale which they change relatively frequently. From the outside it looks like a very old pub, and it is, but over the years they have clearly gutted the interior on several occasions. Nevertheless it’s still very comfortable and place for a beer. I only wish they had left alone as it was originally.

This was our second choice of the evening and I’m pleased to say that we are glad that the previous restaurant could not turn down there music 🎶 (it was exceptionally loud)😂 The pub was not overly crowded and pleased to say no loud music. We went to the bar and ordered some drinks then looked at the menu and ordered our food. We didn’t have to wait very long and it was served piping hot and plentiful, 1/2 way through our meal we were asked if it was okay that’s a nice touch that seems to have disappeared. My husband even had room for a dessert, again this came warm with ice cream.

We visited at 5pm on a wet Thursday evening in February Half-Term. On arrival the barman gave us a friendly welcome and we took our seats in a surprisingly light and open bar. It was early and quiet when we arrived - a family was just leaving, a regular was sat at the bar, and there was a friendly chap sat by the window who chatted with us as he finished his coffee. The bar was well stocked with a good selection of draught beers, including the excellent Bath Ales Gem, a couple of nice “proper” ciders in boxes, lots of gin, and a decent Pinot Grigio. Our 7 year old daughter has Coeliac Disease, which means that if she were to eat even a tiny crumb of anything containing gluten - wheat, barley or rye, she’d be poorly for several days. She’s understandably very nervous about eating out, and the first thing we normally do is to wipe down the table to re-assure her. Everything was very clean here anyway, but unusually, she was pleased to announce that we didn’t need to do that here as everything is gluten free. I should say at this point, that if you don’t have allergies or coeliac disease, don’t let the fact that it’s gluten free put you off - it only needs important, but minor tweaks to ingredients that you won’t notice, and the food is great. If you do have coeliac disease or allergies, you will be safe and well catered for here - awareness is very good - for example, when I asked for a gluten-free beer I was offered Daura or Old Specled Hen in bottles and warned about the (very small) potential cross-contamination risk of the gluten-free beer that was on tap. Food wise, there was a good selection of reasonably priced offerings on the menu and we all decided to go for burgers - a Classic for our daughter, a Black and Blue for me, and fish for my better half. All came with a generous portion of perfectly cooked, thin skin-on fries. The beef burger patties themselves weren’t home made, but were good quality, tasty, a good size and perfectly cooked. What made them great for me was the attention to detail on the accompaniments. They came in a seeded crispy bun that you wouldn’t have known was gluten free. The beef burgers included a good amount of cheese, home-pickled onion and cucumber, gherkin and a thick slice of carefully-selected and properly-ripe beef steak tomato. Our seven year old polished off nearly all of her adult portion (kids meals are available, but she wanted the burger). We were all pretty full after that, but shared a large helping of what is the nicest carrot cake I’ve tasted - very light and perfectly spiced and not containing any walnuts, which I can’t eat. It was served with a cinnamon cream and some frozen berries. The pub filled up up nicely with a good mix of people from all walks of life during the time we were there. There wasn’t a tv or obtrusive music where we were sat, and everyone was talking to one another rather than fiddling with their phones. The barman became very busy trying to both serve at the bar and food to the tables, but did a good job holding the fort until delayed re-enforcements arrived and made time to chat and make us feel welcome. What made it worth the 2 hour / 100 mile trip for me though was that we all felt safe and welcome and for what may be the first time in her life, our daughter could choose to eat anything she wanted to eat on the menu, just like everyone else. Keep up the good work guys. I wish every pub was like this.

Went over there for Christmas dinner and I've got to say that while the food itself wasn't bad, it wasn't anything to write home about either, it was OK, that's all I can say about it. For the price I expected a bit better quality, though portion wise it was a good size. The biggest problem was with the waiting time. While I do understand that larger groups are more challenging over 1h waiting time is not something that should take place. Maybe on a normal day it's a bit better, but it did bitter my experience.

Looks an amazing pub from the outside, dates back to the 1500s so you'd expect it to have bags of character. It does, and the beer is very well kept. I had a pint of Gem, the Bristol-based brewery and it was perfect. Unfortunately I couldn't finish it because all I could taste was the stink from the men's toilets. It was pervasive, and I don't understand why the management think the whiff of piss enhances the experience. Pity.

I'm sorry I didn't take any photos, I meant to and I forgot! 🙄 this was a lovely, relaxed and friendly atmosphere I would liken it to sitting in a large living room with a bar at the end! the staff were friendly and welcoming, I visited with my partner, on Thursday 28th of September. We had an evening meal, I booked the table for 6pm, we both had the tempura prawn starter, which was presented very nicely with drizzled sauce over the plate, we had five large prawns. For our mains we both had the Chicken Supreme, with a lovely mustard mash, and green beans and carrots the Chicken was cooked properly, and not dry! the sauce was a creamy stilton sauce, which was lovely, but you don't get much on the plate, so I asked for and paid £1.50 for. We both felt our meals were worth what we paid, as the quality was good, the only slightly negative thing I have to say is we would have liked a bit more vege on the side. We would both definitely go back, they also have live music nights it's usually rock/indie music, which interests both myself and my partner.

When we were getting served this evening he was rude to the (female) bartenders. I would like to say he hasn’t ruined the night but honestly, his attitude stinks. We never mind being asked for ID - most of us work in customer services. WE GET IT. but if you ask, at least be polite and not questions whether the new passport is acceptable forms of ID or not. We booked a table for 3 on a Saturday evening for a meal before the theatre. The booking system was all online and very easy with text confirmation. When we arrived 2/3 of the pub was set aside for a private function which left us a table in a very small area with 3 or 4 other tables a large screen TV with football on an a lot of people crammed into a very small area. The food was excellent, but be warned the starters are big. 3 starters for £16.00 we had an olives/humus with flat bread and 2 types of wings and 3 pizzas, ranging from £11 to £15 each. However, the pizzas came before the starters, the starters followed shortly and we had all our food in one go on a very small table, when I questioned this with our server he simply shrugged and said the chef cooked it all at the same time. Not an ideal situation at all, but the food was excellent, though 3 pizzas and 3 starters is too much for 3 people.

Came here today with my son, daughter and her boyfriend. Upon entering a girl shouted some other girl to serve we asked for the menus to have a look. We went outside and had a look at what was on offer, the menus were really sticky and dirty so were the tables. The young girl came to take our order only for them to say they didn’t do that menu anymore. I was a little confused to why we were given it. They only serve the breakfast menu until 2pm. Ordered breakfast it was quite greasy and the mushrooms tasted like a burnt pan. Sausages were nice. Coffee very poor and watered down coke.

The village cafe offer so much, be it breakfast, lunch or coffee and cake. The staff are excellent and friendly, service is first class. Our visits here started as a once a week meeting now our friends meet us here, only today we went to another cafe and they requested we meet next week at the Village Cafe, it’s a place loved by all. Well done to Charlotte and her team, keep up the good work 😊
