Lovely cosy pub atmosphere and service with a smile. The food was hot and very filling. The only downside was the kids play area outside was right next to people smoking, possibly could be moved but a great place to eat!

(updated review after second visit experience, two weeks later) I visited Penny Farthing again and Ian, the general manager was there to bring us to our table. This time I ordered the Ribs and Chicken set and my wife ordered Sunday Roast. The food was fantastic. The meat fell off the rib, the tangy-ness of the chicken wing was just nice and the Southern fried chicken fillet was flavourful. The Sunday roast…you can’t go wrong with it…very nice. One thing I would like to mention is one the staff upon noticing us trying to get a we-fie, offered to take a photo of the whole family. Really made our days. Thank you for the kind gesture. Enjoyed this time round. ============================= (First visit experience) Overall, it was a pleasant visit. The atmophere was good. My kids enjoy playing at the playground within the pub. The reason I'm giving 3 stars (though partially my mistake) are: (i) I made my order at the counter. I ordered Steak Americano and was given Sirloin Upgrade without me realising it. I only realised it when I went back to check my receipt wondering why I was charged £2.00 more. (ii) The food arrived as I was attending my kids at the playground, so my wife was not fully aware what was in the Steak Americano. When I started eating, I also didn't realise things were missing from my order till I finished my food. That's when I realised why my steak was so plain. My Steak Americano DID NOT have topping with crispy bacon, melted Mozzarella & Cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce. It's just a plain steak. Felt a bit overpay for not getting what I wanted. :(

The food is amazing!! We both had fish & chips and it was beautiful. The chef was called Elaina and we can always tell when she is in the kitchen, as the food is always superb without fail. 5 stars to her!!! The service staff are all lovely and friendly, and they do everything they can for their customers. Nothing is ever too much trouble! We strongly recommend this pub to anyone.

Great place to bring the kids and reasonably priced.

Lovely food as usual, lunch was a bit busy in the kids holidays but we didn’t wait too long. Ordering online was pretty easy and everything got brought to the table!

This pub is great all round. Food is delicious and the service from all the staff is always the best. The kids even love it with the indoor area and outdoor play area. Callum always makes us feel so welcome and the atmosphere is amazing for the whole family. Always love coming here every week.

We had a table booked for a certain time and the manager Ian couldn't do enough for our party of 12. Amazing hospitality. Everything came out at the same time, piping hot and will definitely be coming back.

Encantador pub con la ventaja añadida de que el lugar es totalmente apto para perros. Me hubiera encantado traer a mi anciano personal aquí. Almorzamos con sándwiches y baguettes que venían con un lado de patatas fritas. Ambiente agradable, tranquilo a pesar de que era el descanso de Semana Santa, pensé que habría niños corriendo por ahí, pero los que estaban aquí apenas sabías que estaban por aquí porque se portaron tan bien, crédito a sus padres. El personal no vino preguntando cómo estaba su comida, me gustó porque siento que si su comida no estaba a la altura de los estándares seguramente se lo diría, en lugar de estar a mitad de camino de un bocado y que se le pidió que respondiera a cómo estaba su comida. ¿Volveremos? Sí, y trae al perro.

I am a vegetarian and was diagnosed recently as prediabetic, so my diet is now very restricted. The staff were very kind and let me have a meal composed of 3 vegetarian low carb side dishes even though some were not on the menu as such.. Love the salad. Sad there was no main with haloumi

I loved it, we came out as s family of five it wasn't cheap or affordable we had 4 adult meals, 1 child, 5 adult puddings, 1 child and drinks came to just under €100. But service was 2nd to none, clean and tidy, and food was good size and great. We all had a great time. The only thing that let it down was it was a warm day so we sat by a window, but outside that window was tables which allowed smokers and we had to shut the window but could still small the smoke. Also in the kids play area no smoking signs but adults was smoking and no one thier to ask them to stop. Lovely place but due to health condition and them not stopping smoking around restaurant it would not return. But if your smokers and adults support the place it's great food & cluster service. It's a shame as we all loved it. Thank you to all the staff you were amazing and the chef great food.

The food we had was served very promptly after we ordered and it was hot and freshly cooked. We were really impressed with the quality and will definitely be back again soon. Car parking at this establishment is very good and the staff are pleasant

Really pleased with meals, catered for meat eaters & vegans too. Lost one star as I find it unfair that when u veganise a dessert by taking away the toffee sauce and icecream u still pay full price.

Have been here many times in the past. This visit was very disappointing. We had the flatbreads with salt and chilli chicken at £11.99. The flatbread was stale and hadn't been toasted. I had a tiny amount of small chicken pieces with basically tomato, cucumber and a bit of sauce. Nothing like the description, and it was cold. The chocolate tart dessert was also stale. But the staff were great.

I'm sorry but trying to enjoy a meal and a chat with a DJ blaring out is not nice! I personally do not think this pub is the sort of pub for a "very loud" dj. Also the takeaway pizza £11.50 with discount for blue light worker was about the size of a kids pizza!! Daylight robbery. I personally will not be going back there again..... prices way too high £18.50 for bottle of wine and not good if you just want a quiet meal. On the plus side food and service was good

We came for a 21st birthday and we had accidentally booked it in for the wrong day. The manager was so accommodative and welcoming regardless of our mistake. He took really good care of us, learned our names and made us feel so welcome he even decorated our table with the decorations we provided. Our food was great. Really good portions and flavours. Staff and manager checked on us often to make sure everything was okay. Bartenders were lovely. Especially the really tall one hahah he was super friendly and welcoming when answering questions about drink preferences etc. Thank you so much for the hospitality and warm welcome.

Booking online is always easy to do snd today’s booking was no exception. I was able to state that we have a dog and a five year old with us and be seated accordingly. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated. Service was friendly and speedy throughout our visit. There is always a welcoming and friendly vibe in the place, even when they are really busy which is what brings us back over and over again.

I made an error on my booking time, and arrived an hour late. However, it was met with a warm response and the staff member, whilst the pub was full, still managed to find me a table within 15 minutes. The bar was well staffed and quick to serve. Food came out hot and as described. Staff were pleasant, tables were cleaned. Quiz was good. Would definitely recommend.

The wife had Sunday roast and went large but came as standard with only a small amount of gravy, I had a rump steak asked for medium but came more well done, I must say this is the first time this has happened, all the rest was ok

I was very happy with the organisation on Sunday . 24 family members booked for various meals and to be honest couldn't have asked for better service. Sorted area of tables, meals brought out as close as could be so we were eating together, all meals were perfect, no problems at all. Worst website on the planet, don't bother trying to book or use any features on it. Best feature the Newlands is just round the corner.

Lovely food and lovely friendly atmosphere.

Booked for a family meal of 18 people. The seating was great as we had the whole corner to ourselves, only thing id change is the fact the tables werent put together so we all had to sit seperately. We had the table from 3-7 which was nice as we wasnt rushed, we were able to take our time and leave when we were ready. Food was amazing, couldnt fault it. Eveyone had something different and no one had any complaints. Staff were very friendly and service was super quick. Children made the most of the outside area. We will deffinately be returning.

Es tan bueno como siempre es la comida es increíble Probé el pan de pizza de ajo queso que era increíble. También tuvimos la hamburguesa con queso los helados para niños, el nuevo plato de costillas y parrilla Ultimate, el surf y el césped, la parrilla mixta, pollo cazadores y el pescado con papas fritas y todos dijeron que estaba todo delicioso.

Love this place. Really quiet when I went in for lunch, so plenty of choice of where to sit. The Staff were really friendly and helpful and our lunches were really tasty. Will go again. Nice car park beside the pub and a small outside play area for younger children.

Great night for a family and friends gathering, handled a pre-order for 12 of us very well and all three courses came out hot and tasty and everyone had a great time! Looking forward to the next one!

Stumbled on this pub while looking for somewhere to eat,wish I hadn't one if not the worst meal I have had. Looking the the menu I choose a donor kebab meal on a flat toasted bread with salad and garlic mayo with chips. The meal cost £12 which was quite a decent price for a kebab . The flat toasted bread base was not toasted properly and was cold,the kebab meat was very small pieces,and the sort you get from a box in iceland,it was dry and overcooked,hardly any garlic mayo on(a bottle of mayo was brought to the table but was completely empty could not squeeze a drop out) the chips were over cooked. Even the coffee I had,a Americarno was such a small cup and cold when brought to my table. The whole setup was designed for maximum profit for poorest quality. If you look at my reviews this might be the worst ever as I do try to be fair

All of the main courses were delicious and fulfilling, and also looked really appetising. The desserts are heartwarmingly sweet and the portions are man-sized! It's a lovely place really, we're coming back as soon as we can :)

Thankyou for a lovely afternoon at The Penny Farthing for our Group Open Doors. When I came in to book for a party of 29 people Chris was polite and helpful and throughout the booking process kept me updated. We were welcomed in today and had a lovely meal with great service from all the staff including the manager Ian. Everyone went home content so again thank you for your hospitality and great service.

The Penny Farthing is every thing a good local pub should be. Friendly, welcoming and good value. Their pizzas are tasty and the perfect accompaniment to one of their good choice of beers. The place feels homely and they run fun events like the quiz on a Wednesday. It is a proper local.

Absolute delight coming into this pub. All decorated for Christmas. Staff are very welcoming and friendly always checking if everything is okay. And the food prepared by the chef Elanor was a complete delight and this first time in months been able to eat a full meal. I would definitely highly recommend to friends and family.

Great team, so attentive and kind and make you feel welcome, the only negative i have is the price of the Beer which seems to be always increasing, The Beer i drink is Morretti which is now £5.90, when if came in last year it was £4.80 so has increased by 23%, in era where every penny counts. I would hate to not contribute to my Local pub due to the prices forever inceasing, when the other local pubs are nearly £3 a round cheaper for the same drinks my partner and i drink.

I came to Coventry to have a Meal with My Daughter and her Boyfriend as her Birthday is soon I have to say the service Food was great good portions and definitely value for money would definitely recommend.

When booking the table online, I couldn't advise I wanted a table for 3 (me, my wife and our daughter) but when I got there I was told I only booked for 2. This was sorted out relatively quickly, which was fair enough. I did have issues ordering the food though and the staff member was quite defensive. My wife wanted the vegan chilli but didn't fancy rice or chips with it. Previously, we have been able to swap this for a jacket potato with no issue, but tonight the server was adamant it couldn't be done. I asked agai. If we could swap as we have had this before and eventually this was agreed but I was told it shouldn't have ever been agreed as it messes with stock levels. I asked if the server would be happy to pass on feedback that it could be an available option and was told that so much is referred to head office that there's no point and nothing gets changed, which is an awful attitude to have. I also order a sharer to come out as a starter, but the mains were brought out first and I had to send it back and ask for the sharer to come out first. We have used this pub as a family a lot and it recently seems that when it is busier the staff aren't as helpful and it seems like a struggle. Not the best experience we've had from a service point of view. The food was good though when it came, but that is only a part of the experience ce.
