The Golden Chippy in Greenwich

It is a fantastic place. The food is top class and the service is good. There are places inside and outside and, despite people are constantly coming and going, you have the time to enjoy your meal or ta take it away freshly prepared. For us the best chippy in London. The place is clean and doesn’t smell of cooked oil.

Without doubt the best chippy in London. Let’s hope his trade increases despite the idiots at Greenwich council! Keep up the good work!

What a great place. Great staff ad great F & C's. Love the new wall sign even if Greenwich Council do not. Have they got nothing better to do than get the guy to paint over it. Get alive!

We had heard great reviews so my family and I went there last night. First of all the staff are great - accommodating, professional and friendly. Now for the food - EXCELLENT!!! Homemade tartare sauce with a fresh salad and perfect chips. BUT, the piece de resistance was the fish. Top quality haddock in the lightest most delightful batter! We highly recommend a trip there to savour the best fish & chips I’ve ever tasted and I’m a northerner so that says a lot !!!

The golden chippy was my first stop on my London trip as me and my friends travel from New York, I originally found this spot on tik tok watching a series of a girl looking for the best fish n chips in London. When ranking the 11 restaurants the golden chippy came in number 2 and even tho it wasn’t number 1 in my opinion the fish looked like it had a nice crispy batter compared to the number 1 witch is exactly what we were looking for. Upon arrival we were welcomed by the owner who immediately mad us feel at home before we even walked in the door (we were outside taking )after being sat down we were greeted by our sercer IBO he was warm and welcoming and very knowledgeable, the attentiveness he showed us made us feel wanted and welcomed. We ordered 3 orders of cod 1 bartered sausage and 2 pieces of Cajun fried chicken, when the food come it is hot and fresh and made with love. We will def be back thank you ibo and family for making us feel welcomed.

Not only does this place have some of the best fish’n chips I’ve ever had, the staff are super friendly, and you feel like you’re family there. Ibo took care of us and answered any questions we had except for the fried chicken recipe. This New Yorker now has a must go to spot anytime I’m in the area.

We've recently been to this restaurant mainly because of the very good reviews online and we were not disappointed! The food is amazing, the fish is really fresh and served very hot. I almost missed my flight to try this place and I can say it was well worth it!! Best fish and chips I ever had in my life. The service was also excellent! Super friendly and down to earth people. The Best Chip shop in London. Super crispy batter coating a sweet, meaty and flaky fish. Get a meal for £11-£19!! Make sure you sit in so you get the amazing side salad, unlimited tartar sauce, unlimited chips (but I've never needed to order more) and company of the friendly team. My favorite fish and chip shop in London! Really fresh fish and the owner is very friendly, love the little side salad that comes with it too. It’s got about 10 seats for dine in so don’t expect anything fancy but cannot recommend it enough. Also they fry in rapeseed oil, my BF has a peanut allergy so this was very important.

Having heard great things about 'The Golden Chippy' I decided to take myself there for a birthday treat. The people were friendly, the atmosphere was nice and the food, Cod & Chips, with a tasty salad... WOW! They really did live up to their reputation! Was recommended this place by a friend and it was definitely worth the journey over the Thames. Great chips, brilliant battered sausage and with gherkin, curry sauce (which comes in a jug) and a bottle of Peroni came to around £18. Managed to get a table inside and really nice friendly service.

Disappointing I'm from London so although the price was high it was not a surprise. Cod and chips £15.50. Large cod £12.00 was decidedly standard and standard chips £3.50 somewhat small. Waited 15 minutes as told would be fresh. Chips greasy and soggy, cod much the same. I had read good things about this place but sadly it fell well short of expectations.

Not what I expected at all, took the kids to Disney on ice so was staying in the hotel across the road. Got back quite late and needed to get some dinner.Thought we pop in and get something but not had high expectations. My god how wrong was I and what a gem you are with your bright lights. The guy who served us was really nice and talkative. We decided to takeaway and glad we did because we absolutely smashed your food it was one of THE best I have had in a long time. Picture this: you've booked a terribly stuffy, 6th floor Airbnb in London during the worst heatwave in years. The box fan they provided is weaker than a Boris Johnson promise. You're thoroughly exhausted but feeling great after a long week exploring the city and that very day you visit the Royal Observatory/Queen's House in Greenwich and are off to find food right as it starts to rain. The owner of the Golden Chippy welcomes you in and sets about cleaning an outside seat, setting up the rain cover and asking you about your day in the cheeriest way, happy about the rain and obviously loving what he and his family do for a living: cooking great food and making you feel at home. Not only is the food amazing, but the laughter, questions about your travels, where you're from, and how you are enjoying the food are all warm and genuine. Truly the best fish and chips I've ever had, and after a week of splurging it was our best food experience after a week in London. According to google there are 20,000 restaurants on London. This has got to be top 15 easily and is worth a visit (or two).

Good place to get good delicious food from friendly people especially the owner/chef. They welcome and serve all (locals and foreigners) equally without reservations. I first eat there with my colleagues (from 4 different nationalities) in July. During my second visit few weeks ago in November they were even more welcoming to my daughter and I. I have had the opportunity to eat in and order take way - good food, delicious food, good experience!

Coming from the US, we wanted to find the best fish and chips and the Golden Chippy certainly exceeded that hope. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the owner and felt such a warm welcome. This energy carried through the entire visit and is something you do not get often anymore - I admire this a great deal. The fact that the food was as delicious as it was, makes this restaurant the full package. The fish was light, crispy, piping hot, and flavorful. The chips nice and fluffy. The tartar sauce was easily the best I’ve had and tied everything together. I will come back here every time I return to London. Thank you to the owner and team for the experience!
