The Glorious Art House in Exeter

We were going to a show at the Corn Exchange so had been searching on Google maps. A fabulous review popped up for this eating place and it was convenient for lunch before the show. I am so pleased I read the review and decided to visit for lunch, brilliant cafe, lovely veggie friendly menu and friendly service. Visit if you can, you won't be disappointed.

Lovely tea and coffee. Yummy vegan cinnamon swirl. Lovely bright eclectic vibe. Friendly staff.

Literally the best morello cherry blondie!! The decaf oat cappuccino was also excellent. Relaxed, friendly, colourful atmosphere..lovely.

Have visited a great many times for coffee, cake, and light lunch. Our favourite coffee in Exeter! Many options available for drinks, snacks, and meals for the carnivore and vegetarian alike. Staff are always excellent - greeting all customers and offering suggestions on the best food available on the day. The building is narrow with seating across two floors (and courtyard) - and at busy times it can be tricky to find a table; but it's well worth it. Music will always be on quietly in the background, and this paired with the quirky decorative choices makes for a unique fun feel.

Excellent vibe and atmosphere, the décor is beautiful and it's a lovely place to be. The service is outstanding and the baristas are super friendly and lovely. Definitely coming here more often!!

Love this place very much. Beautifully decorated , with many paintings to enjoy. Giving a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation.

Good food with healthy options. Friendly staff. Let down by the cold. In winter especially people want a cosy warm atmosphere to enjoy their drinks/ food : (

An amazing place, great coffee & always some great art to see upstairs.

The city centre was extremely busy due to the Xmas Market so we decided to walk down Fore Street as it is quieter to find a coffee shop. This small shop is a delight with its quirky decor. The cappuccino was excellent and service very good. We sat in the ground floor but further seating is available upstairs and a small garden area in warm weather. Definitely worth the walk.

Came in quite by chance and had carrot cake and coffee. Wonderful little cafe with great service from Grace highly recommended to anyone in Exeter situated close to city centre.

A friend of my father's worked at Glorious, at the bar. A fairly assorted range of cakes and herbal teas. The toilet is up the top floor, but you should really be careful with the last flight of stairs. (I mean, I didn't trip over them at all, but they are pretty steep.)

What a wonderful find, away from the hustle and bustle of the City Centre....and a refreshing and delightful world apart from your Costa's and Starbucks. The hummus and bread snack - plenty to fill me up - was delicious, as was the coffee. The cakes looked delicious too. I shall be back for a slice another time! A perfect place to sit, ponder and enjoy. Staff were genuinely welcoming and friendly. Thoroughly recommend it.

Great little cafe/ restaurant with great choice of cakes, food and drinks. Great colourful eclectic decorations. As well as inside seating in the ground floor and 1st floor they have seating in a small external courtyard at the back. In the toilet look out for the relaxing bird song. Very friendly staff. I can recommend the spiced chai

Had a great lunch with a tasty Americano and a fruity iced tea. There weather was a bit variable but nice to be able to sit in the courtyard.

Quirky, bright place towards the bottom of Fore Street with a lovely little outdoor space. The cakes are great (and the lunches looked pretty good too). The coffee was not, sadly. Very weak and pretty tasteless. A shame, because everything else about The Glorious Art House really is very good (even the birdsong in the loo!)

Absolute GEM of a place! Lovely lovely staff. Really good brunch menu. The atmosphere is CHARMING! Everywhere you look you see something new and something pleasant. I was just wondering around and found this quirky place. Stayed for a couple of hours to decompress and read my book. Absolute delight. Plus the espresso martinis are great;)

What a gem of a place! This was recommended to us by th e owners of an AirBnB we were staying in and Im so glad we went. We had a flat white, hot chocolate, hummous and bread, then finished off with banana and chocolate loaf cake. All proper lush! Its got great friendly staff and a fab chilled atmosphere. Would highly recommend and just wish we had one nearer to where we live. Thanks guys

Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. The menu is smal but tasty, all you need for a lunch stop. The bread used for the baguettes is very tasty: these are absolutely delicious. As is the accompanying side salad with balsamic dressing.

Recommended to me by nearly everyone who was talking about where to go in Exeter, and this place didn't disappoint! Lovely pastries, sweet treats and drinks, and overall very cute and artsy. I appreciate as well their interactions with the local community, such as having fliers and hosting an event in their upstairs. Vegan options I believe as well

This is a really lovely cafe. Their coffee is amazing but also I ordered dahl soup and it was divine! On top of this- it is really quirky and the staff are friendly and helpful :)

Absolutely delicious coffee with the friendliest baristas. There’s a nice couch which overlooks the street, perfect for people watching. A nice quiet place to have conversations and get work done.

I had the nicest flat white of my life at this cafe. A little gem in the city - the cafe has a lovely atmosphere, very funky/quirky art work and decoration. The staff were extremely sweet and polite. Will definitely come back again!

Went for lunch. Friendly staff, quirky cafe but warm and welcoming. Very tasty baguettes and drinks. Just what we needed on a cold winter day. Just lovely.

I really like this place. The menu is small but all really good, the coffee is good and the cake selection top notch. The place has a lovely atmosphere and there is always something interesting to look at on the walls. There also a little courtyard that is great to use in the warmer months.

Absolutely gorgeously quirky cafe with the best cakes. Lots of interesting art and projects to look at and something usual to look at around every corner. Lovely little outdoor area too. Staff are wonderful and owner Rosy is just amazing. Thoroughly recommend whatever your needs and tastes

Hosted our friends baby shower here today and it was great. They gave us the room upstairs at no extra cost, service was friendly and the waffles were delicious!

Unquestionably one of the unique boutique café in Exeter offering a selection of beautiful cakes (GF) and outstanding coffee, relaxed atmosphere and super awesome staff, portion sizes are very generous. Totally love it there

A wonderful and vibrant cafe. My partner and I are now regulars. The hazelnut hot chocolate with oat milk is highly recommended. Staff are brilliant and so friendly!

Absolutely lovely place! Everywhere you look you see beautiful little ornamental colorful pieces of art and tableware! The service was amazing, so friendly! And the food was really good.. would go back when in the area for a proper breakfast and a boozy hot chocolate!!

Very rude lady. I am exempt from wearing a mask (although I had one covering my mouth out of courtesy) but was made to leave the premises, against government guidance. Recommend try elsewhere.

I’m working my way through all the coffee shops in Exeter and this was such a fun one! My husband and I found a sweet spot by a window upstairs and had a really lovely time. The cappuccino was good not great, I’d go back for the atmosphere and treats. My husband got a brownie and enjoyed it. The service was great, we got there about 45 minutes before closing and weren’t treated with annoyance but welcomed graciously. Definitely worth a visit!

This was a beautiful and cosy café. The staff were so friendly and helpful even though they were very busy due to the well deserved popularity of this place. I had the most delicious vegan fig cake. Highly recommend!

Super cute cafe!! Wish they had more tea options but my tea was good and the staff are super nice. We're already making plans to come back for the hot chocolate, which looked amazing for the table next to ours lol. Also surprisingly quiet for the bulk of the time we were there.

Quirky art house cafe with lovely welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend the chocolate and coconut flapjack! The little garden is a real surprise although the weather wasn't right for our visit.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and accommodating, the food is very tasty - they went out of their way to seat our group of parents and toddlers, and a great time was had by all!

Best big red settee in town. Located down quieter end of Fore St. Watching all the people go by with a pot of green tea and apple & blackcurrant cake. That's me with the pot of tea, not people.

Definitely one of my favourite cafés in Exeter. I always make a point of visiting at least once (often more!) when staying with my family in Devon.

Glorious use to be a beautiful, lovely lil stop gap for a mocha/light snack, the gardens lovely in the sun and the upstairs decor was beautifully furnished an the staff were EPIC! NOW ITS LIKE TOTAL OPPOSITE! .. Glorious is not the word i would use, the trouble is i cant find a word to describe the appaling service. Our mochas took seemingly forever to recieve a luke warm beverage that had little taste and a whole lot of lumps?? I mean how hard is it to STIR. nt to mention it didnt even taste like a proper mocha, the coffee used seemed to be instant, like what could they not be bothered to turn the coffee machine on?? I will never go there again, unless i go with my own spoon as one was not even provided to stir the **** i was served. Go to THE COSY CLUB, LLOYDS LOUNGE there u will find excellent Service, no pressure and Great food n drink! I truly feel it is a shame as Glorious (not) use to be a truly lovely place to relax and enjoy a mocha with friends. I can only hope the guy who served us learns to make a mocha or drops the UN~Glorious service. My apologys to All the Staff who had previously been fantastic Nb. The lady currently there was also on it with customer service smiles but seemingly went along with the AWFUL cherade as she was the one who served it to us. Upon leaving " enjoy the rest of ur day" We will, as we then went to the Cosy Club, where upon we received EXCELLENT SERVICE as Per STANDARD! And awesome Food *:D Not forgetting GENUINE SMILES *:D May Glorious become Glorious once again by Getting better Staff *=};-)) or learning how to stir an Instant coffee, when they cant be bothered to make a proper one for approximately £3! Lmso I will not be recommending my friends, colleagues people i barely know or even frenemies rrfl! Remember COSY CLUB OR LLOYDS LOUNGE OR SOUTH STREET STANDARD... IN FACT ANYWHERE BUT THE UN-GLORIFIED UNGLORIOUS!

My absolute favourite place in Exeter to get a coffee. Staff are lovely and their food is always so good. I love taking friends here or visiting on a weekday to get some work done if its quiet. If you haven't been, go!

We visited for coffee and cake. The shop is small, but has a lot of character. The cake selection is good and the coffee is great.

Very tasty coffee and cakes, fun place to sit, and very nice (if a bit busy/slow) service. Didn't feel fully socially distanced however as it's quite small, so be aware.

Went to visit their gallery space and decided to have tea and coffee with my sister. The staff are so so friendly. The cafe is vibrant with a relaxed atmosphere and the coffee is fantastic.

Debido a la situación de COVID las mesas se han distanciado socialmente así que tomamos asiento. ¡Pedimos 2 cafés con leche y eran los mejores cafés que habíamos probado en mi vida! La temperatura era excelente y estaban deliciosos. El servicio fue excelente, tuve una agradable charla con el chico detrás del mostrador. ¡Definitivamente regresaremos ya que no podemos dejar de pensar en el café! Tendré que probar la comida la próxima vez también. X

A delightful artisan cafe, lovely coffees and teas, some very tempting homemade cakes and snacks far better than the franchised alternative, decorative interior design and delightful garden to the rear and friendly helpful staff.

1st time going here and loved it . Staff are super friendly and welcoming. Prices are great and drinks were so yummy. Really cosy , was reluctant to leave 🤣 Will be coming back here more regularly in the future ^_^

He estado en este café varias veces antes, pero desafortunadamente mi experiencia hoy fue realmente pobre. El café en sí está muy bien decorado pero sucio. El caballero detrás del mostrador fue muy agradable, pero claramente no había suficiente personal o tazas para todos. Tuvimos que esperar 20 minutos por dos tazas de té, y cuando llegaron, la jarra de leche y la tetera estaban incrustadas con comida vieja. El hombre tuvo que preguntar a otros clientes si habían terminado sus tazas solo para que hubiera suficiente disponible. La jarra de leche en particular tenía limo marrón alrededor del interior de la boquilla, como si no se hubiera lavado adecuadamente por un tiempo. Nos sentamos en la ventana en un sofá roto y había trozos de comida muy secos en el suelo. Al final nos fuimos sin siquiera tocar el té. Entiendo que está ocupado para el comienzo del período universitario, pero tener un poco más de personal disponible, algunas tazas más y una limpieza profunda podrían haber hecho que la experiencia sea más agradable.

The art house really is glorious! Excellent staff, excellent food. You really do get the organic, veggie, vegan vibe when you enter this magnificent food heaven. As a soup lover (no Heinz artificial soups etc), their soup went down as a real treat, accompanied by some home-cooked bread and organic prices. The building is absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend, Keep updated on my other reviews.

Everything about this cafe is wonderful, the fantastic decor, chilled atmosphere, smiley staff. The hot chocolate and cakes are amazing! Have visited many times with friends before and has never failed to deliver. If i had one suggestion, i’d like to see more things on the menu as i believe there are only a few light options. In a cafe as nice as this, it would be nice to see some more proper mealy things on the menu to spend more time in there. It’s also quite pricey but excusable to keep local, independent businesses going. Would definitely recommend!

Lovely coffee and friendly service

Paramos aquí para desayunar. Pedimos gofres y capuchino, que eran una delicia. Todo estaba preparado recién y con amor. El ambiente en la cafetería es muy especial e inspirador. Es un buen lugar para sentarse y quedarse un rato.
