I was shocked to see the landlady short-measuring spirits from the optics to customers slightly the worse for wear.... This wasn't accidental - it was done several times whilst I was watching, taking the second measure on a "double" when the optic measure was half filled from the first. Cheapskate poor behaviour from the landlady of a busy local :(

The food here is outstanding. After a long day traveling, myself and my brother popped in for dinner. Truthfully the nicest food I have ever eaten, wholeheartedly recommend to anyone in the area. I had the vegetarian option of stir fried greens with ginger, and my brother had a steak and ale pie with mash and peas. Both were presented beautifully, smelt delicious and were completely outstanding to eat. My compliments to their chef. Throughly recommend.

Popped in for Sunday lunch. Really good price for the size of the meal. Options of one meat or a bit of both. Served hot and quickly in a very pleasant dining room. Both Jayne the landlady and Andy the chef were extremely attentive. Shelly the barmaid was also efficient and friendly. Nice courtyard to sit in with hanging baskets, dog friendly too. They advertise B&B too, live music, Sunday games etc. Highly recommend.

Called in for lunch whilst staying at a local campsite, this is a friendly traditional cafe with a good selection of homemade fayre. We arrived at midday and they were fairly busy. We were offered a choice of the breakfast or lunch menu which was nice. We were with our dog and the cafe is dog friendly. My wife had home made cheese scones which she said were delicious and the best she had eaten, they were warm and beautifully presented in packages tied with string and served with chutney and cheese and a salad garnish. I had the cooked breakfast that was excellent and decent ingredients that were cooked well. We had drinks that were good and the home made ice cream excellent. The place had a great vibe and was spotlessly clean. They obviously had staff issues as there was a sign in the window advertising for staff and a notice saying that because they were short staffed there could be a wait. Despite being busy we didn’t feel that we had to wait too long & the waitress apologised for the wait on more than one occasion. This is a charming cafe that I would recommend & definitely return to.

Someone’s put in a lot of work to get this pub just right. It’s friendly, welcoming and comfortable...not at all flash, but a very pleasant, proper pub. We received a friendly welcome and very good service; our meals were very well presented, good quality and very good value for money, enjoyed in the fairly basic but nonetheless comfortable and pleasant outside beer garden.

First Sunday roast for the new management here at the Globe Inn and probably one of the first customers to partake. Both of us having chosen beef from the choice, (the other being chicken), and what a choice. The beef was gorgeous and plenty of it, with four veg and roast potatoes to die for (crispy) all with a tasty gravy. Only one slight criticism was that the Yorkshire pudding was not home made. Once the word gets out about this meal it will be hard to book a table. All in all a perfect Sunday lunch, a good price and for us the No 1 locally. Congratulations to the new management and wish them all the best for the future.

On way from Berkshire to Plymouth and had planned to call in at the Route 5 restaurant (but couldn't turn in directly as we were approaching from the wrong direction) but the was a blessing in disguise. Weren't sure where else to visit but then decided to come off the A38 at the local services which just happened to bring us into Buckfastleigh and in turn to The Globe. Was a bit typical of the old westerns when the stranger enters the bar and the piano player stops but once we'd got our bearings we ordered some drinks and lunch. We had a large ham, eggs and chips, a bacon and cheese baguette plus a fish finger baguette. All were served promptly and piping hot; my meal (the eggs etc) was monstrous in size but simply superb! Called in for a light lunch on Saturday 9th July. We could not understand why only one member of staff working, who had the job of serving behind the bar, taking food orders and delivering the food to the tables. When we arrived three tables were uncleared and remained so for some time. Have never come across a pub serving food where they were really unhelpful. I am limited on what I can eat, so asked if I could just have the chicken burger minus the chips. Without hesitation or even thinking about the answer was a flat "No". How very disappointing, I could have understood it if I had asked for something unusual not on the menu - 3/10 for customer care. Dined in a restaurant in Plymouth that evening, they couldn't have been more helpful, 10/10 for food, service and customer care.

For example.....my daughter is a very fussy eater and won't eat broccoli without it being smothered in cheese sauce.....the chef didn't find this an issue and was happy to whip her up a cheese sauce. Arrived in Buckfastleigh on a Monday to find it closed - except the Globe Inn that is. A few shops open but most of the eateries were either shut or not really serving a full meal. Saw the Globe and went in. Asked for a table and thought "oh dear we are the only ones here - not a good sign". How wrong can you be. A great menu with really good prices. Had my elderly parents with me and all of us have allergies to one thing or another but no problems here. I went for my favourite of Ham egg and chips - standard sized and my mum had the same but a small portion. Dad had a small sausage and mash. Well I think maybe I should have had the small portion too. I could not finish the meal. It was all fresh, piles of decent chips, layers of hand cut ham, lovely salad garnish and lovely eggs. The salad had a tasty dressing too. All three of us struggled! The prices were excellent, far lower than I have come to expect around these parts especially when you consider the portion sizes. Chef was a friendly and happy chappy too and obviously proud of his restaurant. There are plenty of posh bits to eat as well with a well stocked specials board. Highly recommended.
