At last, we have been visiting Swanage for over 30 years and the globe has always been one of our pubs of choice. It's been off the radar for the last two years or so BUT it's back, thanks to the locals for taking it on as a community pub project. We have recently been back in and it's back to the friendly welcoming family friendly pub, we went in Monday 19th August 24 and full of locals which we haven't seen for a long time. Beer etc back to a choice and all well looked after, as is the big back garden. Well done Swanage community, brilliant.

Very friendly staff, very welcoming for families. Good prices on drinks and snacks. It is close to the town and bus stops.

What a great find! considering the landlord had only recently taken ownership, starting to make the place his own and has had to climb some mountains to get it reopened - what a fantastic visit we will definitely be back! We were made to feel so welcome by both the landlord and locals. They looked after our puppy with fresh water and treats. The chef delivered food out to some customers that looked amazing and they said it was great! Keep doing what you are doing and it will for sure be a complete success 😁 Keith and Caroline

Thank you so much - great afternoon and evening of rugby, darts, pool, music and drinks. Very accommodating and kind staff, our dogs and children were welcome, the service was brilliant and as the kitchen was shut we were invited to pop and get food for the kids from the local chip shop. We had a great boogie, Stuart was a fantastic host and our visit was the highlight of our half term friends and family trip.

We went in here on a cold rainy December night, and were made to feel so welcome. Our dog got treated to his best dinner ever, such kind, generous people. Thank you

Lovely family run pub, great atmosphere & a large beer garden. Dogs are also welcomed. The food is lovely & good sized portions.

Had a table booked for lunch, but after 30 minutes of waiting, nobody appeared interested in taking our orders or even asking if we were ready to eat. The afternoon entertainment appeared to be a patron/staff member - it was hard to tell who was serving and who was just helping themselves to a pint - seeing how loud he could belch.

Booked for Sunday lunch while staying in Herston Cross and whilst the pub is not the prettiest inside, the Sunday lunch could not be faltered. I had the vegetarian option, beetroot wellington and hubby had a roast. Both meals piping hot very tasty and great value for money.

Fantastic day on the Herston Trail, dropped in on a walk from Harmons Cross fete. Great beer, fantastic staff and a lovely garden, visited the pub on holidays before but now it seems move friendly and a great place to spend a sunny afternoon. If there were less pubs between here and the White Horse we would have have stayed longer.

I anitially came for the drinks and pool, but I keep coming back because of the amazing service, especially now because of there amazing new menu items.

10 of us went in on a wet and windy Tuesday. The Landlord, Carl was very friendly and accommodating, we all had lovely meals including ham, egg and chips, chilli con carne, special burger, chicken nuggets and chips, and for me, a vegetarian, he kindly offered a beetroot wellington - normally reserved for Sunday lunches which was very tasty! There was a lovely big garden with a covered area and all new picnic tables which we look forward to sitting in when the sun finally makes an appearance. Sports on the TV, pool table and darts to keep the men and teenage boys happy and dog friendly too! We’ll be back :)

Booked as a large group of friends and family. The landlord was so accommodating and the service was excellent. Lovely food enjoyed by all. Will definitely visit again.

What a poorly run dump a couple with children who would rather sit there smoking and chatting to mates than serve or clear glasses or any form of work , lovely building but just being left to deteriorate unloved we are here for a week and would rather sit on a park bench with meths than do back there

This used to be a lovely, quiet pub with tables and great for a catch-up with friends. Admittedly, it needed a small update. Serve good etc. BUT it's fine way too far the other way now. The music ( loosely called that) is way too loud for the size venue, no tables, dirty glasses. Don't bother visiting.

Really lovely local pub, with an amazing Roast Dinner on New Years Day. The New Landlord was really nice and very accommodating especially as my daughter has food phobias, he literally asked her what she would eat and made it very easy. All the food is home cooked and really tasty. We will definitely be back.

An amazing roast dinner, 2 x beef, 1 x chicken & 1 x gammon, all fabulous & accompanied with perfect roast potatoes & seasonal veg. Friendly, helpful staff & a cosy ambience! Will definitely be returning.

So we gave the new owners and chef 20 hours notice, they took a request for the food the b'day girl wanted and knocked up one of the best pies any of have eaten out, even catered for 3 more than planned. Lovely evening and...

Recently met the new land lord and landlady. Beer is good. Clean pub and a banging roast dinner. Roast was gastro cross home cooked style. Honestly couldn’t fault it. Will definitely be back soon.

Fantastic local with really friendly staff and regulars. If I lived nearby, I would certainly spend a lot of my life in here. Timmy Taylors (favourite tipple of Madonna) on offer - and very tasty it was too!

The scathing landlady is an absolute bully who judges people in the total wrong manner. She totally rips off customers with her embarrassing prices of drinks then kicks them out and bars them when they question their crazy prices. Never go to this pub. She...

Great pub with welcoming owners. There is nothing pretentious about this place which is fantastic. I felt very welcome even though I am not from Swanage.

Came out from town centre to see John MCclean play. Never been to the pub before but certainly will again. Great little place with lovely garden and friendly staff and visitors. Band was outstanding. Taxi from town good value.

Managed to fit a group of 7 in for an evening meal at short notice. Food was great and the puddings - Wow! Enjoyed the Bannofee and Waffles with walnuts and ice cream. Will definately visit again. A standard menu and a Specials Board 🙂

Good food good value and a decent pint. Pate to share. Two Sunday roast beef with all the trimmings.

Booked a table at The Globe after viewing previous complementary reviews. When we arrived, not much parking, but really that goes for all of England. Not much ambiance inside. I realize it's a pub, but I was very hesitant to even stay and have my dinner here. Decor was really outdated. Ordered nachos for starter, not great. Both our main meals were ok, flavorful but really not amazing as some of the other reviewers had said. All in all it was ok, but I would not go back for another meal here.

Staying in Swanage for a week and wanted Sunday lunch. Read some reviews and decided to go to The Globe. We were found a table as several were already reserved and ordered our food I had the roast beef and there was plenty of it with roast parsnips, potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding. The vegetables were in a separate dish and there was a great selection and we got a jug with extra gravy My husband who doesn’t normally eat a lot of veg went back for more The deserts were also good Both my husband and myself said it is one of the best roasts we have had out and would recommend it

Been coming down to swanage Dorset for 20 or more year always seen the globe from the main road, but never thought of going in, until the last 4years are friend moved here tonight we decided to pop in for a meal and we where all surprised at the standard of food and service, we hadn’t booked very small and advise to book we were welcomed and with suggestions we managed to be seated comfortably, luckily some one had cancelled so it was all change, as I said the globe is on the main road into swanage on the right hand side entering the town, can be missed the food service excellent, not sure of parking but plenty of space on main road,

Absolutely stunning, being a gay man this is not the type of place I usually go, HOWEVER the food came out on time and hot aswell as that the chef a must if you love great food, brilliant service, and hunks, full marks, try it you will love it, ive even booked the same table again next week, let’s hope it’s the chef

Whenever I'm in Swanage (couple of times a year for diving) I always go into the Globe at least once. I can't help but not. The atmosphere is so friendly, I always feel welcome. The beer selection is always good and well looked after and the food options are very tastey.

We booked at table for 16 people for 7PM, we arrived 5 minutes late which we thought would not be an issue. We went straight to the bar to get drinks and then sat at our table to look at the food menu’s. We were told we were not allowed anything from the specials board as there was too many of us and had to order of the normal menu which wasn’t told to us at the time of booking. When ordering 1 of us from the table just wanted a special which we thought wouldn’t be a problem but they kicked up a fuss and told us the “ chef was angry” as we didn’t arrive dead on 7pm and refused to cook just 1 special which was appealing and we could hear the chef complaining from the kitchen as we were sat outside! When asking questions about the menu the staff didn’t really seem to know anything about the food. Our friend who is a vegetarian went for a vegetarian option and was given a crab salad which was an obvious mistake. The steaks were ice cold and things were forgotten with our orders. When saying politely we were not happy with the service and food. They were very rude and genuinely not very nice. We go to Swanage every year and will NOT be returning to eat at the Globe Inn. I’ve never had such bad service!

That lamb shank..! What can I say, pure poetry. Add that the staff is wonderful, the place is lively, with a great beer garden and the locals super friendly. Well worth a visit in Swanage and eating there is a must.

Yes, the Yorkshire pudding was overdone & we weren't keen on the cinnamon cabbage, but apart from that WE LOVED IT!! Roast beef needed no knife & everything else was utterly delicious, Lani's table service was outstanding, the gardens are beautiful & the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable-HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Found this pub near our holiday rental. Don’t be put off when you see the building, the staff are so friendly and so are the locals . The service was excellent, food is first class . I had the rib eye steak cooked to perfection and good value .good choice on the menu and a great board of specials Check it out you won’t be disappointed.

Wonderful friendly staff the two of us and our black lab Sidney couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome! We felt like locals?! The other half adored the real ale and the food was not only great value for money it was amazing. We will be back again next year, don’t miss out on this little gem of a pub! Only downside is they only do food Thursday-Sunday

Went to the globe for a beer prior to going to the indian friendly pub nice beer and nice place to go closes early mid week

It’s been 2 years since our previous visit but we were looking forward to going again. The pub still does nothing from the outside to pull people in but I guess that’s what makes it even more of a ‘hidden gem’.

No doubt the best food I have ever had! Service was so polite and friendly. Couldn’t recommend them more!

We booked a table for 4 for Sunday lunch on the back of these reviews and I am so glad we did. There was beef, pork or chicken on offer and we all opted for the beef. Great selection of veg, extra gravy and yorkshire pudding all home made and delicious. Eaton mess, blackberry and apple crumble and banoffee waffles finished the meal off to perfection and we were all gorged. Service was personal and faultless. They described themselves as a little pub with a good chef and I second that.

We ate as a family of 5 last night. Very busy with only 1 waitress taking orders, delivering food and clearing away. She was run off her feet whilst bar staff who had no one to serve did nothing other than deliver the odd drink. Dinner served 7.20 finished deserts 9.20! Sat with empty plates for 30 mins.

I notice that the details section describes the Globe as a pub that does good food. A bit of an understatement - it's a really nice pub that does great food. Excellent Timothy Taylor Landlord, a spacious pub garden and really tasty food. Will be back next time we are in Swanage.

We have now eaten at The Globe half a dozen or so times when we are down on holiday in Swanage. Having just returned from holiday I am pleased to say that the food is as good as ever. In fact I would go so far as to say that the Cod in Mornay Sauce, served with mustard mash was one of the best meals I have had for a very long time. As mentioned elsewhere, this is a pub that does great food (Friday to Sunday), as opposed to a restaurant. The beer is good and we always get a friendly welcome from the landlord and staff, so for us it's now become an eagerly awaited part of our holiday.

Went with family of six all very happy with the quality and speed of service. Top quality food especially my chicken and homemade chorizo. Definitely a cut above standard pub grub. Highly recommended

After reading the reviews, I kind of expected it to be rather nice, but instead I got a pub with no atmosphere and something that looked more like a social club than a pub

Didn’t get as far as eating food. Ordered at a booked table 2 hours later. Just wanted a quick bite. Would’ve been gone in 45 mins. Took food and drinks order then told us 15 mins later we’d have to wait until 8pm. Owner’s never gonna make any money if he employs kids who’ve no business acriment. Shame

Felt very welcome and had an excellent meal with all my family. Not only was there the very good portioned Sunday Roast but other excellent meals to choose from. We all enjoyed what we had and at a very reasonable price. Well done to the Chef and the landlord for all there hard work. I would recommend it to both visitors and residents in Swanage to enjoy a well cooked meal with a lovely homely atmosphere.

Visited 28/10/18. Staying in Swanage for a few days and booked for Sunday Lunch. An excellent Roast beef with lovely crispy potatoes lots of vegetables and even extra gravy. Well done to the chef! Even a lovely log firel

Staying locally with friends, and a friend had booked this for Sunday roast. When we walked in, I was very unsure. Tiny place and in need of a freshen up. However ... she said to trust her. The food was very reasonably priced and we could have chicken and beef! When it arrived, it was beautifully presented. Plenty of veg and extra gravy for the table. Beef was cooked to perfection. Everything was great. Highly recommended and 10/10 to the chef. Don’t let the looks to put you off.

Lovely little pub with fantastic food and beer. All the staff were so friendly and dogs are made very welcome. The foid is to a high standard and I would recommend to any visitors or locals to give it a try. Locely

Try the light meals, had a nice fish and chips for £6. All the staff were friendly and good service too. Beer garden is a bit of a shambles, wouldn't take much to tidy it up and look more welcoming. Dog friendly.

So or not, you soon feel part of the pub family. Looked after as if at home with warm smiles and friendliness. Sunday roast beef superb - the beef literally melted in your mouth, lots of it too. A lovely selection of well cooked vegetables and as much gravy as you’d like. The next best thing to the appetising looking and tasty food was that it was all hot. So rarely happens. First entered this pub as a four year old with the habitual dirty hands and knees in 1978 with my family who used to stay at the local caravan park. I harboured very fond memories and decided to take my own family to the Globe after introducing my childhood steps in Swanage to my own children. 40 years later and my memories have been sincerely massaged, it’s such a little Purbeck gem. A special mention to Grace and Dan who were so good at seeing to our needs that we thought they were Management. You’ll pass the Globe entering into Swanage, remember it and visit it. You won’t go wrong

Heard good things about the globe from my father in law, Rang in the afternoon but they were full but to my surprise Wendy rang me back said they could fit us in ,and I can say with security that the service food and atmosphere was lovely our waitress was smiling ,very quick on her feet made us all feel very welcome .

We have visited this pub in Swanage a few times. The pub is looking tired and there was a pungent smell of stale wee near the bar. We sat in the garden which looked like they couldn't be bothered with, unfortunate with the weather we have been having recently. Most of the garden furniture looks like it's going to fall apart. I can't comment on the food as we didn't eat here, the menu looked pretty good though.

As a large party of 10 adults and 11 children visiting Swanage, we were very impressed with the welcome, service and food on offer at The Globe Inn. The menu was varied and reasonably priced, the hard-working staff were friendly and efficient - accommodating our desire to sit first outside in the sunshine with pre-dinner drinks, then sit inside to eat - and the food served was all delicious. Thank you to all who gave us such a warm welcome and a great night - we will be back!

We came in and had a meal with our two small children. Staff were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious and well-priced. This is now our first choice pub in Swanage for family eating. Well done to the owners and thank you to the staff who made our trip really pleasant.

Staying in Bell Street and popped into the Globe on our last evening!! Shame we didn't go earlier in week, would of ate there more..great food, friendly staff and landlord... great value for money, didn't feel rushed... great evening...will definitely come here more when we return next year.

This is a proper local pub serving fabulous food at a reasonable price with really friendly and helpful staff. We have been coming to Swanage for quite a few years and this is our first visit to the Globe. Why we haven’t been here before is a mystery. The food is superb I had lamb shank which melted in my mouth my but all the food we had was excellent. To top it all the beer is top notch, you can tell that they look after it properly. We will definitely make this a regular haunt

This is the first time ever in my life that I said "this meal would be my last wish meal". My off the specials menu - loin of pork with vinnie cheese and mushroom sauce was out of this world, served with a generous helping of fresh veg. This meal was worth the wait. I had to stop myself from licking the plate clean. The waitress (as too all the staff are great); a relaxed family atmosphere.

I see that the two most recent reviews aren't that complimentary but those reviewers have a total of four reviews between them so I'd suggest taking those with a pinch of salt!

This used to be a great pub with an excellent landlord - I don't know if he's moved on now or if he was just away, but the whole pub was chaotic and it was not clear who was doing what. The chef seemed to be darting between the kitchen and the barbecue and very little food was coming out of either. In the end we cancelled our food order as it was taking so long and appeared to have been forgotten.

Only ever been in here a few times when visiting Swanage for a pint of Timmy Taylor which has always been well kept and I’ve always found the place to be friendly, lively and welcoming place to be.

We had Sunday lunch here recently and were very impressed with the food that we had. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was plentiful and tasty. We would definitely eat here again when we are next in Swanage.

Visiting Dorset to see family, 11 of us and we had booked the Globe for Sunday lunch (Easter weekend) - we were running late so phoned ahead (very late) that didn't seem to be a problem, which was kinda worrying if it was good (i.e. booked out to the brim, good) My family were the first to arrive, lovely old English pub from the outside, not so "lovely" inside however. So why the "Very Good" rating? Well the staff were lovely, and the food (trad Sunday Lunch) was tasty and plenty - good old British fare. We had a walk to do, so didn't stay for desert, but based on the main meal I am sure that was great too. I am not sure of the ownership or how long the current guys are there for - but a lick of paint and tidy would do this place a world of good - I love old English, but, if we had not booked I might, just might, have turned the family around and headed of for something else - would have been a real shame...

We are staying just up the road from The Globe Inn and went for dinner yesterday evening. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Highly recommend this pub.

So, that was fantastic! From start(er) to finish, wow!!

Had a look at Trip advisor, this place came up with some good ratings so I gave them a call. They took our booking, no problem. So after traipsing around Swanage in near blizzard conditions we rocked up here. Ermm... Its a proper little local, not big. But we had pre booked so were shown a table for the 4 of us. Menu was not expansive but varied and they had the obligatory specials board. We ordered starters which came within good time - had the mushrooms which were lovely. Mains ordered - again, these came out in good time and were well presented. 2 x Crab & chilli linguine, 1 x Burger, 1 x Pork Belly. The linguine was lovely, just the right consistency, and despite other peoples comments NOT too hot, just right. The Pork belly was fantastic, the crust very crunchy and the meat moist which fell apart. Then onto deserts:1 x crumble 1 x Hot chocolate pudding. Again, both were lovely.

Pub looks a little tired, but don't let that put you off. This is a better than average pub that offers good food at a reasonable price, staff were friendly but not over bearing, and it beats a lot of the over priced/hyped pubs in the area. Well done guys!!

We stayed in Swanage for a week and was very disappointed with the quality of the food. It wasn't until the final meal, (Saturday), that we finally had a good experience. I had the rump steak which tasted at least as good as sirloin. The beer was excellent too - I had Hobgoblin Gold. My partner really enjoyed her food, especially the crumble for pudding. It really helped end our week on a high point. I would definitely recommend this place.

We were looking for somewhere for Sunday lunch and turned to Trip Adviser. We had previously walked past and discounted the slightly tired looking pub just down the road for us, only to discover that it was one of the top rated pubs in Swanage and, as an added bonus, was dog friendly.

Visiting Swanage to ride the Steam Train, I had consulted Trip Advisor for a pub for Sunday lunch and what a find!!! A great Publican, a very wet family of 7 were welcomed, shown our table and drinks orders taken. Only 2 teenagers ordered starters, which came quickly and were very large and obviously freshly cooked. 4 of us had roast lunch and what a treat , very large portions, piles of fresh veg and to die for roast parsnip, all served very hot. The other three meals from the menu where also great. We only had two sweets but the Brownie was delicious, and again home made. We then spent some time drinking coffee while the teenagers played pool.

Als je goed wilt eten tegen een fatsoenlijke prijs, is The Globe Inn een aanrader. Het personeel is vriendelijk en attent maar niet altijd ter zake kundig. De vaste kaart vertoont weinig verrassends, fish en chips, burgers, zaken die je in een pub verwacht. Maar de "specials" bevatten leuke gerechten zoals Hert en gegrilde vis van het seizoen. Ook kun je hier vegetarisch eten. Prima eten voor een goede prijs.

Camping close by, the weather turned and we wanted a place to eat. Having read good reviews of the pub, we went in and found ourselves to be one of three families eating. It's a small pub, but good. Banoffee Walnut waffles were amazing. The staff seemed to be young and very polite and attentive. Nothing negative to say about it at all.

I visited yesterday with two kids 8 & 11. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. There was a small wait to place our order but once ordered the food came in good time. The quality of food was fantastic! Well worth a visit if you are in Swanage.
