The Globe Inn in Dumfries & Galloway

I've been meaning to leave this review for some time. My partner and I visited one Wednesday in December last year. We were staying in the area for a few days and heard that the globe inn was good so booked ourselves a table as a treat. It was a wee quiet wet & miserable wednesday pre-christmas and arrived unsure what to expect, we didn't really look into it any further after we made the reservation. My goodness we were blown away!!!! What a phenomenal meal. The attention to detail, quality of ingredients, originality, presentation and everything tasted delicious. Just stunning!!!! Shout out to jonny (I think) who served us. We couldnt decide which menu to go for, and we're glad we took his advice and choose the tasting menu. Jonny was very warm, welcoming and knowledgeable about the plates that we were was served. He even took us a tour around the historical building after. We were surprised to learn he was fairly new on the job, seemed like he had been there for years. The globe inn is worthy of a higher rating on Google than it currently is. We would 100%%% return next time we are in the area. Thanks for a lovely afternoon!!

My dining experience tonight at the Globe was exceptional. The food was utterly divine - of note, the Salmon Mi-Cuit and accompaniments. I would travel back just to eat this again! The front of house staff were equally fabulous, with friendly and attentive service. We dined in the Snug with our small dog. So impressive that a restaurant of this calibre allowed me to bring Bonnie! 🐾 10/5 🌟 Will I come back? Absolutely 100% ( I live about 200 miles away but worth every mile!) Exceptional. Thank you!

Our lunch was very memorable. Amazing flavours and textures, artfully designed menu and a talented team executing the experience. Fine food and drink without the portentousness. A great surprise down an ally.

I had a fantastic dining experience at The Globe Inn on a rainy Wednesday night. Everything was delicious and the restaurant is a cool setting. I had the 7 course tasting menu. The highlight dishes for me were the Crab, Hake and Galloway Beef. Thanks for making it a memorable experience!

The food was great - especially the little bread rolls with butter at the start of the meal! We took granny there who has accessibility issues and they were very accommodating. The service was great too. Our waiter was nice, cordial and attentive. We had a bit of a wait for our first meal but honestly, the atmosphere, the food and the overall experience were just great. Definitely coming back next time we are in town

Excellent restaurant for a special occasion -one of the best for many miles. High and innovative standards across the board with combinations of flavours which leave you surprised and wanting more. The historic venue alone is worth the visit and if Burns was able to return to one of his favourite haunts I am sure he too would be delighted.

I’m 53 so I have had plenty of meals in my lifetime and I can easily say that this was the beautiful meal I have ever had- taste, aesthetics, presentation - everything. We had the set menu (5 courses). Omg! I nearly died! It was £45 for the most divine meal I have ever had. The presentation was more like art than food. It felt wanton to actually eat it when so much effort was put into creating the look of the food. The tastes were celestial! We are only here in Dumfries for the weekend but we are thinking about going again today for another lunch- it was that good. If this was in London, I think they might have charged around £300 per person. Absolutely outstanding!

Absolutely top notch food! Lovely to be able to take our dog in such a lovely environment. Book in advance to get a dog friendly table in the Snug. All the staff were attentive, knowledgeable about the food and helpful. The food was fine dining at it's absolute best. We live 7 hours away by car unfortunately, but will definitely be back next time we are nearby.

Cocktails at the bar before an exceptional dinner in the 1610 restaurant. Contrary to what the 2024 version of Le Routard indicates, this is not traditional pub cuisine but rather gourmet cuisine. Impeccable service (I loved Adele's smile).

Well worth a visit if you like your fine dining. The food is exquisite, and accommodating to those with allergens. The staff are very informative explaining the fine details of food, which adds to the appreciation of the dishes. A beautiful experience, and one I would recommend.

The food was amazing and the staff very knowledgeable. We had three courses cocktails and wine hence the cost As it was our Wedding Anniversary it was well worth the price.

We’ve been to this restaurant many times and it had been my parent in law’s favourite restaurant in Dumfries. We always came here to celebrate some special day or other. However today we had a pretty disappointing experience. The food was delicious as it had always been; however, the service was disappointing. We asked for our bill and waited for 40 minutes before having to ask again. After finally getting the bill and another long wait we had to go to the counter to pay. The chocolate that would normally accompany the bill arrived as we were leaving the restaurant. Upon leaving we mentioned the long wait to the staff when they asked us if everything was okay, however they didn’t really respond or acknowledge our wait. The food was excellent, but an important aspect of fine dining is the service and experience, which is reflected in the high cost. Sadly this was lacking on this visit.

The Globe Inn really delivers on every level when it comes to the 'fine dining' experience. The flavours, and aromas, experienced with each dish were outstanding. Presentation is impressive. The serving staff are very professional and informative whilst, at the same time, friendly, making you feel relaxed and welcome. Loved the cocktails too. Our visit was for a special occasion and eating here will make it more memorable. It was a real treat that we both really enjoyed. I must add a nod to 'The Hairy Bikers' who highlighted The Globe Inn in their final series without who we would have, most likely, not made this our destination, from Exeter, Devon, for our anniversary.

A lovely historical pub with a fantastic menu. We enjoyed every course and appreciated the little extras from the chef. The fish dishes were especially delicious, as were the cocktails. Try ‘the bee man’!

Recommendation from the Michelin Guild. The staff is very friendly. The Ambiente is very "Pub-Like" you will Love it. The food is just unbelivable fantastic. Every bite is like fasting Firework.

Sitting having a drink in a historic watering hole is highly recommend. An amazing selection of single cask whisky to choose from. Friendly staff behind the bar. Where else would you rather be?? 🥃

18/4/2024-Thursday. My husband & I went to this restaurant, highly recommended by my daughter. This was our 1st time to this restaurant. To our surprise, once we went inside this restaurant. The embient of the restaurant is so cosy, romantic and relaxed. The servers were very helpful, attentive with full knowledge about each dish that was being served out. Their service were excellent. Every dishes from the menu was uniquely present, and the taste was superb. We were coming back again soon. Thank you ALL the servers, the chef ( even though I don't know who). For their dedicated to make our visit a most memorable experience. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Most fantastic food. Staff so friendly and happy to talk about the food and history of the place. Will recomend to everyone I know, and some I don't. We will be back.

We ate Lunch at the Globe on the 28th of December 2023 in the snug due to our canine company. The food was amazing and we were treated to amuse bouche and other small additions throughout our meal. Exeptional. The Globe's management are dettermined that that they will earn a michelin star, as we were informed by the Maître d' on arrival. The quality of the food and service profess to that desire. Just 2 suggestions. As Maître d' it is not a good look to become involved in an public arguement with customers, no matter how wrong the customer is. Secondly. The Snug is part of the public space it is not a place where the medical needs of staff should be discussed with them. Take those discussions in to the back. Nevertheless, these are small matters. All in all we had a fantastic meal and look forward to returning, star or not.

Came here today with friends for a meal and Xmas drinks. Had a great afternoon! Superb food, superb atmosphere, superb staff - special thanks to Kiera who has an encyclopedic knowledge and really looked after us. Well worth a visit - we'll be back!

Hadn't been in The Globe for 3 decades, but had a fantastic meal here on Saturday. Opened in 1610, this old Inn was a favourite of Rabbie Burns in the late 1700s, with plenty of paintings and memorabilia. Great selection of beers and wines, an extensive list of malts, and excellent food and service. Will be back soon!

Very good food indeed. Good service from cheerful staff, but be prepared for a big bill. It is a very historic building, where Robert Burns definitely went in his time. It's been there since 1610

Service was excellent, friendly and informative as to what we were getting. Atmosphere was great and the food was flawless. There wasn't anything we didn't like, you can tell a lot of care, attention and expertise went into its creation. Amazing - thank you.

Wow! We always enjoy an evening in The Globe but last night was exceptional. Every part of the meal was exquisite. Well done the new autumn menu is delicious. Every time the food gets better. Fabulous service too.

Fabulous experience, we did the tour and then dinner. Tour so interesting and food brilliant.

Had the most delicious meal here today.. we just popped in for a drink but looking at the menu we realised the food would be a little bit special and it didn’t disappoint. I can imagine the chef buzzed at concocting these fabulous flavours and presenting them so lovingly..we would love to come back. The service was really great too.

Fantastic place full of history a pair of old shoes was found in the walls during a refurb and placed on display supposed to bring good luck .the Bar had an amazing selection of ales I had gunpowder and it was awesome

Wonderful food and very welcoming staff. They are keen to share their knowledge of both whisky and Robert Burns. The tour of the Inn is also good. We had a very enjoyable lunch here. Much of the food was comparable with michelin star restaurants we have eaten at. We will return here

We had a really delicious meal here and the service was great. Huge choice of whisky! We were able to bring our dog with us and sat in the snug, which is a really lovely room.

unerwartetes kulinarisches Highlight in Dumfries. exzellente Küche und freundliches, aufmerksames Personal. wie hatten keine Reservierung und haben auf gut Glück einen Tisch ergattert. schon alleine die Gaumenkitzler waren den Besuch wert. allein die Darbietung der einzelnen Gänge und natürlich der Geschmack würden 6 Sterne verdienen. ein geschmackliche Abschluss unserer wundervollen Schottlandreise. vielen Dank!

Called thinking we would have a drink. Not a problem welcomed and offered bar or high table seating. Very extensive drinks offering. My choice was the Ossian Stout, it's lovely. Wife had a Charlegmane cocktail which was very nice. 7.30 pm Thursday, we asked to see a food menu, not a problem but fully booked. Looks pricy but from what I witnessed the place serves quality. Special occasion place in my world. But worth a visit.

Underestimated pearl in foodland. I would almost st travel back an forth from Holland to experience this again. Totally surprised by all the free starters while waiting. All the flavours and structures ... it blew my mind.

Outstanding food with fabulous presentation. Lovely staff who deliver top class service. Dined here numerous times and it's consistently superb with a regular change of menu which has so much effort and skill committed to it. The chef is a culinary wizard. Eaten at numerous top class restaurants and The Globe is definitely up there as one of the best. It's not a cheap place to dine but you really receive great quality in every aspect of your dining experience so we were very satisfied. See you again soon.

We popped into this wonderful historic pub for my wife to sample the wonderful whiskey selection (I was driving 😭) the staff here are very attentive and friendly and we're more than happy to talk her through the whiskeys the snug was just the perfect setting so quiet and layed back she was converted to the love of whiskey especially the Annandale man of words which was sublime, would highly recommend this pub as it is all about rabbie burns and the whiskey which he would have approved I am sure.

Food was great, a few amuse bouche on the house were very tasty. Cooking was very good, pushing for fine dining. Had a private little room so we could bring the dogs in which was nice. 300 whiskeys available, their house distillery whiskey man of words/swords was excellent. We were not expecting much from Dumfries as it was only a stop over but this place blew our socks off.

Amazing, if I live in Scotland, I'd be back regularly.
