Pearl Palace in Dumfries & Galloway

I ordered a takeaway last night the 7th of December 2024 from the Pearl Palace. I was looking forward to the curried beef, fried rice, and Chicken balls done in batter. I so wished i had gone somewhere else. The meat was hard and chewy and the only vegetable in the container was onion, lots of it. The curry had no tase whatsoever and the Chicken balls were doughy batter. The whole lot was thrown in the bin as it was truly awful. I would never ever recommend this restaurant to anyone, it was just terrible.

Very good food. Ordered as last minute decision quick and tasty. Very fairly priced too.

I had a delivery and was beautiful fresh and I'm going to feed answer we live the rest much appreciated thank you , very fresh and tasty 😋

Used to love coming here but since the owner stepped back it's really gone downhill. I had prawn cocktail and a rainbow chicken but was severely ill with food poisoning. Will not be back

First class takeaway and very tasty, will definitely return for a carry out - curry was exceptionally good as was the other beef dish we had, meat wasn’t soggy but fried to perfection

Take away only now, restaurant closed, used to be my restaurant of choice for 2 decades, gone downhill now steeply. Very little other choice in dumfries now...so takes your chances?!

Sick of it now cancelled my calls several times now and it calls it's self a takeaway but won't pick up number of time's this has happened now I'm done take my money somewhere else.

Checked reviews to try to find a decent Chinese takeout meal. Top rated closed on Mondays so ordered from here. It wasn’t good. Chow mein inedible, crispy chicken soggy - most went in the bin.

My usual takeaway was shut so I gave pearl palace a try. Very tasty, no complaints.

Phoned up to check the restaurant was open for table service as well as takeaway. The lady who answered the phone said yes from 4pm. We arrived at 5:30, only to be told they're serving take-aways only '(

The outside of the restaurant looked so grubby, filthy windows, dusty decorations, dingy lights that we didn't keep our reservation. We walked past and went somewhere else on spec.

Totally disappointed with takeaway service twice I have called and said it was on way never again!! This has happened several times before ! Definitely wont be ordering ever again !

I phoned up for a delivery at 4pm an 2 hour later it came very cold and stinking I will never go there again

Delicious but my one criticism is that the spring roll and a soup filled me up hahaha

If i was to give stars for my meal it would be a one star the curry sauce was so sickly and sweet I couldn't finish my meal which was gutting salt and chilli chips did have alot of flavour but so soggy, we ordered onion rings they were spot on. my partner loved it said was the best meal he had in a long time he'd have it again I wouldn't first time trying here as our usual one was closed.

Ordered the takeaway at 4.20pm it arrived at 6.52pm cold new owner a shambles sending crap food out..

We ate here on a Sunday night but it was very quiet. I ordered duck with pineapple and ginger as on the menu and my husband had hot and sour soup and a steak dish. The soup was OK nothing special. My main came as duck with ginger and spring onions for some reason. I did point this out but I didn't want to wait longer for them to change the order. It was reasonable enough but heavy on the onions and the duck wasn't the most tender. OK but overall nothing special food wise, the staff though were friendly and apologetic at the order mix-up.

Went here for Christmas dinner and it was terrible. Meat had been pre-boiled then heated in a microwave. Partner had been hit 3 times with passing plates by staff. Food was awful, unaccompdating staff. Only cared about the money. Will not be going back. Ever.

Just had the most amazing Christmas Dinner at the Pearl Palace. The food was perfect, the staff were attentive and very friendly. Roll on next year.

We have been here before for lunch and there is a set menu costing £5.50 per head for two courses. You can upgrade the starter by an additional £1 per head and there are some other dishes on the menu which cost just a little bit more. Besides chinese dishes, there are European style items on the menu. I would imagine that the evening meals would be more developed and varied than the lunch offering, but I have given this review four stars for the quality and value available at lunch. The drink prices are typical for this area and the overall bill will be not much more than £10 per head including all you need for lunch. In common with many Chinese Restaurants, I feel they could ensure that the temperature is raised in the dining area, as it felt a little cold.

Food first class and reasonably priced, staff excellent, however toilets let it down, will still be back.

Me and my family went to pearl palace and first we had a huge wait for our food we was sat there an hour because they even started cooking our food because they started doing the takeaways even tho we had been there longer. Then when the food finally came it was awful my omelette wasn't even cooked properly and and my cousin's chicken was cold We will never come to eat here again

First and last visit. Place ramshackle and scruffy. Food awful, poorly cooked and inedible one dish particularly shocking and totally offensive smelling all returned to kitchen Definitely avoid.

I ordered a take out for me and my family and it was very bland. All of the food had a very stale taste. They even forgot my chips! I'd save your money instead of going here.

Excellent service and excellent food at very affordable prices. The courtesy of the staff was also impressive, making sure that we were satisfied with our meal and thanking us for our custom. I know that this is common practice but on this occasion it appeared to be completely sincere. Will definitely return.

We usually eat at a different Chinese when I'm down in Dumfries. Years since I've eaten in Pearl Palace, so happy to go along. My Shredded Beef in Special sauce was excellent. My sister however was served chicken instead of Beef in her Salt and pepper dish plus no extra chillies she'd asked for. No problem dish was changed but still no extra heat.Our complaint really was paying 70p for tap water. Apparently though this is quite allowable.Anyway the service was good, my family knowing some of the staff from years ago.They also fried 3 smaller Spring Rolls for starters when we'd ordered 2 to share between three of us.All in all a good meal. Would return and recommend.

Poor beef curry can say for def the worst curry I have tasted when I complained the waitress looked at me and smiled ; the meat was that tuff you couldn't eat it ; wont be back there saying that my partner had noodles and said was good

We always enjoy food from here so was totally disappointed tonight. The curry had a layer of grease on top and the chicken fried rice was really greasy. Not pleased

The best meal I have had in a Chinese restaurant, ever. I had three big courses and a coffee with sweets, two big glasses of red wine and a Jamaican coffee and was asked for £23.60. I gave them £26 with pleasure.

I am sure that the normal meals is above average due to te other reviews and it was lovely that it was open on Christmas day, alcohol was above average however now I am now out of compliments. Turkey was below average, 1st boiled then roasted, double cooked isn't really my gravy ..which was far too thick. Got knocked on the head over 5 times only 2 apologies. Customer service was below average hence I cannot add more than 1 star for this meal. Dessert was not correctly put together and the starter`s sauce was too potent. I am not impressed, but happy that they tried very hard.

I have eating Chinese cuisine in Hong Kong, Taiwan, London and I have to say that the food in this restaurant is the best I have ever tasted.

Always been my favourite Chinese to go to but I’ve always walked in and ordered, but lately the last few weeks I’ve had to phone my order in and every time the phone is ignored or busy. My partner tested it and went in when I phoned and they simply stood talking and ignored it and another time he said it appeared the lady was on the phone talking to a friend laughing and joking the whole 25 minutes he was in. I’m so disappointed because I always used this restaurant/takeaway for food for my break at work. It’s really put me off the ignorance they had.

I love Peking duck, but I have always been disappointed with the duck in GB -- until last night! My husband and I were pointed to the Pearl Palace by a man on the street, and we could not have been happier with our meal. The wontons were tasty, and the crispy beef had just the right amount of zing.

As we wandered the square in Dumfries trying to decide on a restaurant, we were looking at a posted menu of one of the many Chinese places here. A local noticed us and offered that his favorite Chinese place was right around the corner so we decided his recommendation was worth trying. Good call us.

I regularly have lunch here when I can get a table as at that time it is very busy. I always have the set menu and find it very good value, surprisingly good value! Service is always quick and efficient. I notice that the restaurant is very popular with larger groups.

I phoned to make an order for delivery an Asian woman answered the phone, I told her I wanted salt and chili crispy chicken and chow main. because of the massive language barrier I struggled too understand her, she explained that my order isn’t garanted to crispy and because of her accent I didn’t understand what she’s said so I asked her to repeat it, so I said that was fine she then repeated the order back to me and from what I could understand it sounded correct. When my food came I got chips instead of chicken so I phoned back to tell them very polity, and had a horrible nasty man tell me it was My fault not their fault I didn’t understand what she was saying and their was nothing they could do because I didn’t correct them and that apparently in her 22 years of working their this has never happened. After arguing for 10 minutes that I had said chicken and my parter heard me say chicken he said he would bring my chicken and take the chips and the £3.20 extra.

Good food and nice surroundings

Disappointing, no vegetarian dishes on the menu. Friendly staff. Quick service. They offered to make us a vegetable dish, but the result was very bland. And they showed that they do not know what vegetarian means by putting Prawn crackers on top!

Absolute disgrace.i came here today with my friend and my 3 month old son we were greeted by a young girl who was going to show us to our seats. An older lady came along and started waving her hands saying there was no space for a pram and that we would need to leave. The place was empty there was only 2 tables full! Her attitude was terrible. There was plenty of space for a pram!! We wont be back here. Very poor customer service and very rude older lady!!!@

Went here for lunch, it was excellent, the place is clean and lunch menu has plenty of choice of both Chinese and English dishes and is extremely reasonably priced, the portions are generous and the food excellent.

Friendly staff, good value three course lunch menu with plenty of options. Food quickly prepared and piping hot. Happy to provide take away box for my mum who couldn't eat all her meal.

Marked this as average as my husband and i will often order takeaway from here which is very good but had a disappointing experience in resteraunt. Went with colleagues for lunch and as im on mayernity leave i had my baby in tow in a pram. As soon as i entered i was told prams arent allowed due to health and safety. I tried to explain i was with the large group but the waitress didnt seem to understand much english and went to get the manager. I asked if there was a high chair but there wasnt and they explained they had got rid of it!! I nearly had to embarassingly about turn and leave but reluctantly they let us in with the pram eventually but we should never have been put through such hassle and made to feel so uncomfortable. The lunch menu which is 3 courses for £5 is excellent value for what it is and i had been meaning to go with my husband one day when he is off but as they are so unfriendly towards babys we will need to go elsewhere. Really disappointed with the pearl palace attititude and think they need to invest on a few high chairs if they insist on no prams in the resteraunt or relax this rule. I eat out alot with our baby and have never been told no prams before!! Never felt so uncomfortable that i think we will need to look for a new chinese after to get our takeaway from if thats how they treat long standing customers.

Having lived in Dumfries for 19 years, this was my first visit to this restaurant!

I was at this restaurant twice last week for dinner. Both meals were really nice and hot so obviously was freshly cooked.

Decided to come here on a whim last week and it was a very good decision indeed! Great service, food was piping hot and very tasty! 100% recommend

Well food is lovely. I'll start with that. But my server was classic almost stereotype angry Chinese middle aged woman who felt more like a drill sergeant. It made me feel uncomfortable and awkward. But again. Lovely food.

Went here last night as a group of 6 for a meal , food was okish, ordered a second bottle of wine but there wasn't any left of the first bottle we had so we settled for a bottle of house wine and it was...

Got my order completely wrong, offered a free chinese to compensate for it to then be refused the free meal the following night!! AVOID!!!!

Good meal good value lunch time meal

Lunch here is a bargain, 3courses for£5--10p per person. It's always busy when I go food really good.
