The Glenroy Bar in West Dunbartonshire

Recently moved to Dumbarton and was trying to sample the local pubs near the loch. This one's to be my new local. Usually can get a seat at the bar and get chatting with the staff at the quieter times and find them to be relatable with plenty of banter and always a good laugh. Exactly what you want to find after having a wee wonder away from the train station. Has outdoor seating which will be ideal for the sunny days to come.

Kelly is a top host. Not a local but made me feel like one.

Kelly the manager has an absolutely disgusting attitude to customers, never has any manners and always a sour look on her face. I come to the most weekends which is a shame because the music and entertainment is good however it puts me off going back when I have been treated so horribly by her every time I have went. She seems to enjoy being nasty to customers and I can guarantee most people that come here would agree. It needs to change

Had a fabulous meal there on Saturday. Shannon was very attentive and food was delicious! Mary was also lovely and we'll definitely come back again!

Very disappointed in our visit here, staff seemed more interested in talking to the locals than actually serving us. Had to ask for menus, order at the bar after not being served, had to get our own cutlery, napkins and anything else we needed. Had we been told there was no table service this wouldn’t have been an issue. They forgot my side order, staff member basically slammed under cooked chips on the table. Very strange atmosphere, almost feels like if you’re not local you’re not welcome. You had advertised a Mother’s Day menu, and then made people that came in for a bite to eat unwelcome. Food was undercooked and tasteless. I am never one to write a complaint up on here but I was in actual disbelief.

adore this place, the whole venue is amazing. they do food, drinks and live entertainment! thursday bi go is brillint and the quiz and karaoke sundays are the best. staff are amazing especially danielle and kelly!!

Glenroy is my local pub and it is by far the best pub in the area. The manager Danielle is incredible as well as gorgeous! Always has a laugh with the customers giving the best atmosphere!

I'm here about once a month much to my adult daughter's dismay. Good mix of ages and they do a bingo night on a Thursday to start the weekend early, most staff are wonderful!

Always a good night in the bar. Staff are friendly and welcoming one the best bars in the area. Live acts on most weekends with regular karaoke and bingo nights. Always worth a visit if in the area.

Nice wee pub to come and try yourself. Thursday is a Bingo night and have to say was a good laugh. Would recommend.

Lovely staff great atmosphere a gem in Balloch for sure was here for there bingo night on Thursday for a long w.e the host was absolutely amazing never laughed so hard she really is amazing

Great pub with even better staff. If you're in the area, do yourself a favour and go for a pint with not just some of the most beautiful girls in 'the 'Shire', who have some of the best banter, but also, some of the best locals who frequent the pub.

Great pub, have been a regular for a few years now. Always has a good atmosphere with fantastic entertainment over the weekend and friendly staff. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good night out while in the area!

Unwelcoming and the beer is dreadful. Didn't ask for food.

Went for birthday for pre drinks with pals, they had Christmas decorations up which me and my pals were touching/playing with. Staff member off shift came up to us told us to stop touching otherwise we would get barred so we stopped and apologized. Christmas bobble fell off Christmas tree while dancing as it was in middle of the room which we picked up off floor to put back on. Lady came over verbally going off at us saying we are banned for touching xmas decorations. Woman got security and the security tried putting us on the floor, staff member pushed us while security asked us to leave which started a fight. After leaving staff withheld personal items and wouldn’t give it back as they stated our personal items were in their property so it was their property so they could with hold. Phoned the police and they never gave personal belongings back untill police were on the phone. Great pub all in all with great atmosphere, good music aswell as cheap prices but need to rethink staff seeing as certain staff are violent and unprofessional. After police visited the staff in question said we were under age which was reasoning for the whole situation. Not true as IDs were shown at entrance and to police, which police confirmed as was celebrating 21st birthday.

Had a great night with my friends, however one of the bartenders serving us was really rude and made us feel unwelcome. The rest of the staff seemed nice. Good atmosphere, drinks were over-priced for what we ordered.

Came here for a stag do, the staff were all friendly and polite, they made us feel at home, and served us with some decent pub grub

Joined the pub at around 10pm, asked for a pint of tennants, was told they had run out. Asked for a jack and coke instead. Was quite busy. Drink was handed to me. I wanted to go out for some fresh air with my drink…which was in a plastic cup. Was told I could not at around 22:30. Went to have a sip of my drink and it turned out to be a gin and coke…that should flag up as a weird order and prompt the bar tender to ask…then I seen two customers receiving pints of tennants which I had asked for. So…I can only assume that they could not be bothered to explain to me that the barrels needed to be changed. Poor management, as the new lad behind the bar raised that the tennants had run out. Also why are we not allowed outside after 22:30…even with plastic cups??? All that space unused. Another thing whe I said if I can’t go outside where can I put my drink? Was told to put it on the bar so that the bouncer will look after it…absolute nonsense

£4.60 for a Carling. Not paying that

1 star is a far cry for the hospitality we experienced. Upon seeing the golden T outside of this establishment, our thirsty throats were sold. Once inside , we ordered our golden nectar tumblers and they actually tasted fantastic. Half way through our tasty tankards we approached the bolluck looking barmaid to ask about filling out stomachs with some succulent treats. After the one word answer from the bolluck looking barmaid we knew we were not welcome. So just to try and cheer up Gollum’s stunt double behind the bar we started reading their 1 star reviews. This was not appreciated. So all in all please go here if you want to feel unwelcome while lubricating your gullet, and please do read out the 1 star reviews to wind up that hacket troll.

Just spent the weekend in balloch and the Glenroy is by far the best wee pub around , the staff were so welcoming and helpful ,The manager kelly couldn’t do enough for you , had the best nights I’ve had in a while , will definitely be back , great place with some really nice staff

On Sunday 26th I had my brothers christening party in back room and the staff did everything they could to make it a perfect venue for us. We also carried on the night in the glen Roy bar. Had the best night. Thanks to Danielle, Kelly and her team for such a friendly and welcoming service for the party and drinks after. 😁❤️

I've been coming up from Liverpool to work for over 10 years & always stay at Lomond Park Hotel, staff are always friendly & polite, Kelly in Glenroy can't do enough to make my stay comfortable, I'm in the bar every night for a pint! Jen the nightporter is very attentive! This will always be my chosen place to stay!

The manager Kelly really needs to work on her communication skills and facial expressions. We arrived at 8.30 and two tables had reserved signs. My friend recently broke her arm and we asked if we could sit there until they customers that reserved the table arrived. The man behind bar said that was ok. Kelly said it wasn’t. By 9.30 one table was remaining and we sat down, prepared to move when the customers arrived. At this point I asked the young men sitting at the other reserved table if they reserved it. They said they didn’t but they knew Kelly so she gave them the table. Kelly then came over and asked us to move. I said would it be ok to stay until the customers came and she said “no I need to clean your table” with a face like thunder. Basically, if your not this woman’s friend then hard luck. If you have not been I would recommend reserving a table in advance as it is a great wee pub and the man behind the bar was lovely.

Spent a whole weekend drinking in this place for my cousins stag do, the staff were all very accommodating to our requests as a group, nothing was a problem, Karaoke on Friday night was awesome, Saturday night was a live band and the place was rocking, we had food here and it was to a very good standard, thanks to all staff for making our weekend awesome…

Me and my friend went to our local pub for a few drinks and it ended up being one of the worst nights we have had. We went to the toilet together, as girls do, and was met with the rattling of the door and aggressive shouting telling us to get out meanwhile there was 2 girls also in the cubicle next door. Nowhere was it stated that it was a rule for only 1 person to be in a cubicle and i was in the same cubicle 2 weekend prior with a different person and there was no issue. The manager, Kelly Brown, came stoming over to our table shouting at us to leave, we had only had 2 drinks at this point. My friend tried to tell her we have done nothing wrong which was met with more agreeing shouting and swearing accusing us of things she could not prove. She then banned us from all 3 venues at the Glenroy.

Sadly myself & 4 quite pals (all over 50) popped in for a night of darts & beers as we saw a dartboard all lit up through the window... unfortunately it was pretty clear they didn't want us in there? The Bar staff seemed genuinely angry that they had to get off a stool,put down their phone and serve us...not a smile,thank you or anything. The 6 other people smattered around the place stared solemnly into their beers while we tried to play darts...they then told us we had to stop playing darts as it was going to get busy?? This was 9:30 on a Saturday night in a small corner away from the main area and it was dead...like I say we were about to play some darts (our own darts as it's a £10 deposit to use theirs) and spend a good few quid in there but we quickly drank up and left... They clearly didn't want our business even on a cold, quiet January night...never going back which was probably their intention..but to be fair the one pint we did buy was lovely in a clean glass at a fair price...and the restaurant attached looked brilliant although it was closed. We found another bar nearby which was the polar opposite and had a lovely evening & that pub made a few quid so all turned ok.

Went with family for Xmas dinner today, it's hard to decide which was worse the food or the staff. The amount of glasses broken at tables I hope they have shares in a glass factory, the time waiting for the food to arrive and still needing to ask for other members of the family's meal was abismal. Asked for the music to be turned down 3x as we could not hear each other talk as it was far too loud, 1 member of staff would turn it down and another would put it back up, it was the worst Christmas meal we have had and at £65 a head the only decent part of the meal was the ice cream which we had to request as it had not arrived and still wait a further 40 mins to get it.

Omg I've never been so cold was at the public house Glen Roy (back room)was in there for a special 18th birthday party it was so so cold even polar bears didnt want to stay the amount of cash that was secured for buffet and the use of the hall was rediculious if It was me I would be looking for an apology and my cash back how disappointing for every one who was at the party so shocked to see guest's leaving very early as the hall was very cold. drinks were served in plastic tumblers....... One guest had a nasty accident in the toilet as the toilet bowel had crashed to the floor causing her to fall as the toilet was not secured so guest had a nasty tumble and was very very lucky not to have been hurt to badly I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THE BACK ROOM

Drinks were served on plastic tumblers, even if you were drinking inside. Music was far too loud for such a small place, couldn't hear friends even when they were shouting. Female bar staff was sour faced, never cracked a smile.

Sat in for some drinks and food not been here since the pandemic. Food was excellent the new owners and the staff where brilliant would recommend a visit made to feel welcome. Will definitely be back. Jim & Yvonne Fae Glasgow

Always a great experience when I’m in, Sophie’s always so friendly and bubbly behind the bar and happy to help. All staff including Jennifer who comes in every Sunday for night shift is helpful and welcoming. Looking forward to my next visit

Walked into the pub with friends before getting the train to Glasgow. It was a good atmosphere, good selection of gin and staff were polite and friendly. Nadia Went above and beyond to ensure we had a good time. We will definitely be back!!

Met some nice people here. Had a meal in the restaurant, fairly priced and very nice. Only downside was staff not aware of promotional price of my drink so by the end of the day l was 5pounds out of pocket, when I pointed this out, there's nothing we can do about it now.

I have visited the Glenroy bar any times over the years, it is a small bar with very welcoming staff and customers, you’ll always find great people and conversation at the Glenroy, the food is lovely here and the staff are very attentive and knowledgeable...

Best pub about! Very friendly staff, special shout to Kelly and Danielle, couldn't do enough to look after us, they have deals on drinks through the week and live music at weekends! Couldn't ask for a better venue to be honest, food is also outstanding!!

Group of 7 arrived at this bar to celebrate a big birthday, we all sat outside in the sunshine. After the third round of drinks, some of the girls went to order more drinks and they were told by the barmaid (who had an attitude)...

Great bar, good selection of drinks, weekend entertainment is fantastic. One of the best real bars in balloch.

Popped in for a drink as was a visit to the area. Had two kids with me, however as licensing laws seem to change from pub to pub, I thought I’d ask if children were welcome for us to be inside for one drink. Horrid woman behind the bar said ‘no, outside’ like they were some kind of dogs. Wife and kids sat outside, so I ordered a drink and her attitude was vile. No please, no thank you, slammed glasses down. She is certainly one for the locals!! Probably literally. Beer was terrible, music horrid and generally a hole of a place. Why people employ creatures like this I don’t know. Glad I’m double jabbed

If your looking for some where uplifting modern yet nostalgic this is the place for you. With many areas in side and out there is a space to meet any body's needs. Great bar and club that I have visited and can not wait to have a proper night there.

Staff were rude from the moment we signed in then told us 3 times they would serve us at the table, wouldn't serve us and ignored us so badly we had 1 drink in an hour so we eventually left. They had no problem serving their regular punters who came in after us, all while completely avoiding us. All the bar staff would do well to get a job outwith hopsitality and in general should gain some manners bunch of unhospitable amateurs.

Rude staff, felt so unwelcome here! Decided to take my money elsewhere after only being served one drink. Got bored after I tried several attempts to get served again so I left and found a better pub. 👍🏻

Had a table booked for sunday went in told them the name just got told well nothing in that name & have no tables available,to which i asked what is point of booking system then to be told theres no booking in that name & nothing we can do the guy was rude & girl behind the bar even worse. Not a set of people skills between them. Went in next door where the manager apologised about the mix up but was seated inside & waited forever to get served. The only good point a would say is the girl who served us the twice we got drinks was lovely. Other than that wouldnt go back.

Had a table booked yesterday for inside. Got to the pub, the booking wasn't taken correctly from the day before. The bouncer asked our name it was booked under, he said it wasn't on the list, we had a look ourselves but the name wasn't there. After a good while of trying to get in to the pub we were eventually allowed in but were told we might not be in long. There was one poor member of staff on the bar ran off her feet trying to accommodate a full beer garden and a growing number of people inside. After 30 minutes our drink orders were finally taken. During our time in the pub we seen other people who booked tables getting turned away as their names weren't on the list until eventually anyone could just show up and get a table after multiple people who booked tables were turned away. After a couple of pints we decided to leave as the night was very poor. Atmosphere was poor, attitudes were poor. Very disappointing first part of the evening.

Soon to be flats, I personally would not miss it, every time I go into it, I remember why it is not my regular even though it is almost next door to me. Always feel that if there was a piano player in the corner they would stop playing as I came in, just get the feeling of not being welcomed by the regular clients and the staff that seem to be friends relations of the regulars

It’s the Roy, the best pub in Balloch without a doubt, food is always great, brilliant value and the staff are always smiling and friendly 👏❤️👌🏼
