The Ettrick Bar in West Dunbartonshire

Server treated us like we'd ruined her day by choosing to come here. Basically she huffed around the entire time and made us feel so bad for existing that we ate and left as quickly as possible. Nice atmosphere and decor otherwise, but I doubt very much we'll be back.

Hadn't been here in many years. Went here for dinner with a friend and clearly stated I was Gluten free and the staff went to check what was suitable for me. I was told the steak pie was one of the options I picked this, they made it brought it out with a puff pastry and I was like this is Gluten Free too. I ate a chip and one of the stew bits. He came back a minute later and told me the chef said it was wheat flour. The chef didn't know clearly that wheat flour has gluten in it and the rest of the menu that well as he mainly dealt with the Indian Menu. Allergens are a big thing now and have been for sometime, this is not a joke I am lucky I am intolerant but some who isn't could of been in hospital or died. I find this error not acceptable now. The waiter staff were very apologetic and friendly and I ordered something else from the Indian Menu which was delicious. Personally probably won't go back just from this experience which is ashame.

I've been going here for years, mostly for the quiz on a Friday night. And the service has never been great, the manager Lee has always been horrible and rude to her customers, but we always ignored her and tried to have a good time regardless. But Friday night was absolutely abysmal. We went in and got told to wait in the bar for a table for food, which is fine. But after we had sat there for 1 hour and 15 minutes with no one updating us, or checking in on us, we decided to go up and ask what was happening. My dad is very timid and always well mannered and the response he got from one of the women working there was shocking, she said 'well we canny tell how long people are gonna take to eat'. Which was an extremely argumentative and defensive response, we understand that, but what we don't understand is everyone ignoring us the entire night and not apologising for the wait once. Even when we complained to the manager Lee, she just pretty much said the same thing, and had an attitude which basically implied she was thinking 'tough, you're not getting a table and we don't care'. The staff handled this shockingly, they should not be in customer service with these terrible attitudes. They did not try and difuse the situation, they only made it worse by being argumentative and uncouth. The staff also often shout at each other across the pub for everyone to hear, there is no class. No customer service, they really shouldn't be working in a job where they have to deal with the public because they clearly don't like the public. As evidenced by their miserable demeanor. Not to mention after all that waiting they said we could order from the bar menu, which we did (why they didn't point this out earlier is beyond me) so about 2 hours after we arrived we finally got food, slapped on a plate with no attempt at presentation. The only reason we stuck it out this long, was because we had friends coming to meet us later for the quiz. Otherwise, we of course would have left and not given them any of our money for this awful service. I will never go here again.

Great atmosphere, especially at the weekend with live singers. The curries are superb!! Staff are so friendly too.

Lovely warm welcome on a windy autumn afternoon. Food was delicious. Lovely clean and very well maintained establishment. 5 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟🌟🌟

Great local pub with fantastic atmosphere and wonderful food

We’ve been to the Ettrick Bar for drinks and dinner on a few of occasions and I would say that the experience was alright. Our experience this evening was however terrible. We asked for a table to dine (btw - they don’t take bookings) and were told it would be an hour before one became available. 2 hours later we were still waiting for a table. When we asked what was happening, the person was very dismissive and told us that we have to ‘wait in line’!! After 2 hrs and 30 mins, we decided to call it a day and went home, via the chip shop. Suffice to say, we won’t be back.

Absolute gem of a place in old Kilpatrick. Busy based and restaurant with a good vibe. We had the Indian food which was truly exceptional. The service was Hood and friendly. Prices were not bad. Highly recommended.

Indian food is the best I've ever tasted anywhere. Love it. The Ettrick is a great wee pub with friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Vile,aggressive staff!-Went out of their way to attempt to start an argument with us a calm group of sixtysomethings!-Won't go into too much detail but it seems there are two businesses operating out of one space,and their not getting on with each other was taken out on the customers(us)!

I've been coming here for a few years and always enjoyed it. The beer garden is fantastic with a big TV and plenty of seating. Great for a sunny day. Inside (both lounge and bar) is nicely decorated, cosy and clean but can be draughty sometimes. The menu has plenty on it and both the European and Indian food is delicious. Especially the lasagne and the korma. I've never been unhappy with my order. The staff are nice and the loos are clean. Will definitely keep going!

Warm setting, lovely welcome and excellent cuisine! Very attractive card and more than reasonable prices. I can only recommend this place, don’t hesitate for a moment 🌟

Five stars for the Indian Food - and the size of the Naan bread.

Great beer garden. Was really busy when I was there and couldn't get a table for food but did a nice pint of Guinness.

Great curry house - huge naans. Friendly service. Very confusing about the difference between the sports bar and not being able to order from the big menu outside.

Phoned asked few questions can you just walk in, are children allowed and was told yes , turned up and asked for table for 5, as we were walking in a lady was coming thru the door my partner kindly held the door we were standing and lady said wait a second, we only have that high table I said ok no probs, we were then turned away as the lady my partner held the door for was giving the table !!! The lady behind the bar seen the lady pushing by us !! Needless to say I will never return absolutely rude !!! I hope the selfish lady reads this !!!!

Food is amazing, very good curries

Below average food. Not sure what packet the chicken curry came from but it was cheap and tasteless. Service was good but tired looking pub with similar food. We won’t be back.

Brilliant restaurant with a great atmosphere. The staff are very friendly, cheery and so helpful, nothing is a bother to them. The food is delicious, the portions aren't too big but they are filling and the prices are reasonable. You can choose between the Ettrick bar food or Indian food. We chose Indian food for a change and we didn't regret it, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The Ettrick has a bar separate from the restaurant but we only went to the restaurant. There is free parking on the street. Try the Ettrick for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely disgusting was there with family for drinks when the next table one of them was being very sexists… so I said to them can you stop when saying to them very quietly and with their reaction “F OFF” and we got kicked out because they complained of me being confrontational yet I wasn’t happy with someone being objectified will definitely not be back even though this is my local pub absolutely shocking to think that they don’t even hear the women’s side these days and can let women be spoken to like I was with no harm at all so they could keep going with their night when we had to get out because of their actions DISGUSTING wouldn’t even give them my money now knowing that now it’s absolutely shocking

Popped in for a bit to eat. This place has a standard pub fayre for eating steak pie, mac & cheese. However, this pub has a fantastic Indian menu and is well worth trying. I would recommend trying the spicy mushrooms or one of the sizzlers.

Food is always top notch, the Indian food is incredible very authentic, the fish pakora is a must 😋

I was totally dissapointed with my recent visit to the Ettrick yesterday. My husband and I were out for food with friends in the afternoon where 3 of us ordered steak pie and the other ordered from the Indian menu. The Indian food looked delicious and a decent size portion although the steak pie had very little meat in it, maybe 7 or 8 small pieces with a watery gravy. I don't know whether there wasn't enough steak to go round but in which case they should of told us and 1 of us would have chosen something different. We that had the steak pie were all hungry a couple of hours after arriving home. I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon.

Would love to try this place but they don't have a booking service and fail to answer the phone, drove there twice and never got a table. Must be good shame they can't manage reservations

Top marks here, attentive staff who have a bit of chat, food was delicious. Genuine Indian Food, cooked here, don't think it's some local chef knocking up Indian food. It certainly is not. These people run the kitchen and serve authentic Indian food, as good as you'll get in an Indian restaurant.. Prices spot on too. Definitely recommend from me..

Went along the other Saturday to meet friends. The weather took a change for the better so decided to sit in the beer garden had a couple of rounds which I thought were reasonably priced. We were withering on something to eat so decided on the sharing platter from the beer garden menu. We all enjoyed so decided to eat there not one of us were disappointed. Having a steak pie full house 2 chicken sizzlers kebabs delish with rice and a chicken korma again all reasonably priced great service good atmosphere and will definitely be back.

Phoned up for table told first come first served went up told need to go to public bar till a table was ready but there was 10 empty tables because they were for four or more can’t get a table only two of us place was quiet never be back so don’t go if only two of you plenty other places to eat and better ur loss

Staff were very helpful and friendly, I did not enjoy the food and my drink of draught coke was flat but the waiter did change it without any fuss and also he changed my soup which was supposed to be lentil but it was tasteless as other 4 people at the table tried it and agreed with me. I had vegetable pakora instead which was nice followed by a chicken tikka masala which was very bland. Overall very disappointed and won't be back.

Went in April, it was amazing; staff and food brilliant. Then went again three time in May just to make sure staff and food were brilliant (for science I tell thee) and I can conclude that staff and food are absolutely lovely. I now need to be booked into the Golden Jubilee for a gastric band.

We decided to buy some tickets for the legendary Ettrick tasting day. On this occasion it was a rum tasting. The wide variety of rum was exceptional in addition to our mixers, garnishes and nibbles, such as a cheeseboard and other treats to pair well with the rum. Jordon, our host had in depth knowledge and also made the event with his craic. Afterwards we dined, as usual ordered the famous Ettrick curry. This place will not disappoint, staff, food and atmosphere. A true gem.

Warm and friendly service. Our server, Jen, was so patient with us and our lack of knowledge. She made wonderful suggestions and we had a delicious meal. I have a big appetite but couldn't begin to eat half of the Indian sample platter, though it was truly fantastic.

Went for dinner and drinks last night, I asked the bar staff what time last food orders are. I was confidently told 9pm. We had a couple of drinks while waiting for a member of our party. I went to the bar at 8:45pm to order our dinner to be told the kitchen is shut for orders as they are far to busy. So had to get a takeaway on way home, food was probably better for it. Will I be back... highly unlikely

Great Indian food and pub choice for those that don't like Indian food. Its a small place, no booking, just turn up. Very friendly and relaxed, although it does get busy so you might have to wait for a table at peak times but that's okay, the bar is right next door. Would go back anytime although just one picky point. I wish they would use less salt in their food, it tasted great without the need for quite so much. Would recommend for anyone wanting a chilled night out for dinner. Nor really a place for large parties. Not tried the beer garden yet, will have to wait for the weather.
