We were on a day out in Aberystwyth a week ago when we asked a local resident about a good place to eat. Glengower was the answer without hesitation and we soon found ourselves sat enjoying the glorious sunshine. The staff were very friendly (big thank you to the lovely lady from Belfast behind the bar) and before we even got to our table on the front patio, it was already set and ready for us. The kids were well taken care of with their food whilst I had a delicious steak and chips and my better half had scampi. My steak was cooked to rare perfection and the scampi were really juicy with crispy coating. We also had a fly-by from an Atlas A400M which was a sight to see! The prices were very fair for such good food and the next time we're back this way, I've not doubt we'll be eating here again.

It's got the location but lacks friendliness behind the bar, or so it felt on both our visits. Plus not being allowed to try a beer - that's a first. But otherwise, it's the Glen, it's by the sea in beautiful Aberystwyth, so what's not to love.

Asked about local gins and prices. I ordered I (lovely that I was told was £3.50 single 7 double and opted for a single. My husband wanted to know about other local gins and asked about 1 in particular. Turned out to be 2x as much. No mention of this until the bill came Seems rude not to forewarn us when we had specifically asked about pricing. 😕🤨

Great location at the end of the seafront and near the shops. Great friendly service. Tasty full English breakfast. Having been to a Doubletree Hilton in Manchester recently, the pastries and bacon are 100 times better. Lovely fresh pastries and freshly cooked bacon. My husband's only complaint was the mushrooms weren't seasoned. I was worried the rooms would be cold, but it was lovely and warm in the whole hotel and the rooms were clean with shampoo, conditioner, biscuits and a kettle with hot chocolate, tea and coffee. If I need to visit Aberystwyth again I would definitely stay here.

A lovely stay at The Glengower. My daughter and I were visiting my son Daniel who is in his first year at the University of Aberystwyth. We arrived at The Glengower to a warm welcome. Having requested a quiet room our bedroom was on the third floor. The stairs to the room with luggage were quite a challenge and wouldn’t be suitable for anyone with mobility issues, but we managed the climb. Our room was spacious and very comfortable, with beautiful sea views. It was lovely being so close to the sea and listening to the waves on the shore at night time in bed. The bed was very comfortable with additional pillows and blankets. The en-suite was immaculately clean and a decent size. The water pressure in the shower was lacking somewhat, but adequate. The en-suite in room 32 would benefit from a towel rail for hand towels and a shelf below the mirror for toiletries/toothbrushes. We reserved a table before we arrived for dinner on the evening and it is advisable to do so because the pub and restaurant was extremely busy. Our food was wonderful and the service was very good too. My son joined us for dinner and the three of us enjoyed a very pleasant evening. Breakfast was also good. My daughter and I both chose omelettes from the menu and they were delicious. We also tried the pastries and fruit juice, which were also lovely. When visiting my son again in Aberystwyth, The Glengower will be my “go-to” choice of accommodation. Thank you to all the staff who looked after us, and well done ☺️!

Been eating at the Glen for approx 12 years, every time we travel up for a visit from Newport, south wales, main gripe had to be the amount of flies flying around the restaurant, I wasn’t the only diner trying to swatt them out of the way ! ..the food is usually of a very good standard , the food this evening was very poor, I ordered 10 oz rump steak (£25!) at that price you expect the meal to be of a very good standard, the chips / onion rings were very greasy, they tasted like they’d been fried in old oil, the pepper sauce was pretty tasteless, the steak was just ok, drink prices have gone through the roof !!! Will be trying somewhere else to eat on our next visit

We had a terrible experience trying to have lunch here. Despite making a booking, we waited over an hour before asking about our food. We were given the excuse that it was busy. However, people who arrived 45 minutes after us received their orders while our kids were starving. Speaking to the manager, we discovered that the server hadn't even put in our order and lied about there being so many tables ahead of us. The management and service are utterly incompetent. We ate June 11. I had a "filled of beef ragu with smoked pancetta and taglietelli". Sounded very italian and delicious. I reality it was a watery beef stew with fettuccine that had come from a packet and was overcooked and tasted as if it had been sitting around for half an hour. There was no evidence of smoked pancetta. My wife had a "panko crusted pollock with sticy rice and a Thai green curry sauce and pickled vegetables". The fish was almost cold and the sauce had curry powder and did not bear much resemblance to a green curry. It was an extremely disappointing introduction to Welsh cuisine.

The title of the review kind of sums this up ! We were reccomended this eaterie by the owners of our B and B, normally we are a bit wary of mates reccomending each other, but in this instance the advice was excellent. With three dogs it can be difficult to find somewhere to accomodate you but the Glengower were happy to have them in and treated them very well. As we visited during the Covid Pandemic precautions were in place and were administered very well -all the staff had face coverings or masks - lots of hand sanitiser available - good social distancing throughout. The important bit - the reason for the visit - the food - was great. Even the Wife (hard to impress at the best of times) was impressed ! Downsides ? Possibly a tad expensive... and if you don't book a table on Fridays and Saturdays you probably won't get in (Although this is a compliment to the eaterie and not really a criticism).

We was greeted by the door and taken to our seat and they explained it was table service ect ect. We all ordered food and drinks - had our starters they were lovely and then had our mains not once were we asked if we wanted any more drinks, half way through our meal we was expecting someone to check on us and see if want drinks but that didn’t happen either, so didn’t bother going up to bar to get more drinks as didn’t know if we could. Two Hoots Tea Room at Devil's Bridge offers a delightful dining experience amidst the picturesque landscapes of rural Wales. Situated near the famous waterfalls and historic bridge, this charming tea room combines warm hospitality with a menu that caters to diverse tastes. Our dining experience at Two Hoots began with a selection of hearty mains. The burger was a standout, featuring a juicy beef patty nestled in a soft, toasted bun with crisp lettuce and fresh tomato. It was accompanied by a generous portion of golden fries, perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The salmon with poached egg was equally satisfying. The salmon was cooked to perfection, flaky and flavorful, complemented by a perfectly poached egg that added a creamy richness to each bite. The dish was elegantly presented and served with a side of seasonal vegetables that added a refreshing touch. For dessert, we indulged in their ice cream, which was a delightful conclusion to our meal. The ice cream was rich and creamy, with a variety of flavors to choose from, each offering a perfect balance of sweetness and texture. The ambiance at Two Hoots is cozy and inviting, with rustic decor and friendly service that adds to the overall charm. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring that our dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish. While the tea room can be busy during peak times, the quality of the food and the serene surroundings make it a worthwhile stop. Whether you're craving a hearty meal or looking to treat yourself to a sweet dessert, Two Hoots Tea Room at Devil's Bridge offers a delightful blend of comfort, flavor, and Welsh hospitality in a truly enchanting setting.

Ate here as part of a birthday weekend at the campsite with my husband! The food quality was absolutely fantastic, even though they were extremely busy, there were no shortcuts taken, everything was perfect! The porterhouse steak was amazing! The best we have ever had! Great quality, favourite, cooked as we like it! We will 100% be back!

Café in the National Library of Wales. A bit pricey - but otherwise a good hot chocolate and cake.
