We’ve just left the Glen-Yr-Afon after a wonderful Afternoon Tea for our Mum’s 90th birthday. What a stunning afternoon, in stunning surroundings, with the best afternoon tea in Monmouthshire. We’ve been to all of the ‘usual’ venues but the Glen-Yr_Afon surpassed them all, by a long way! Everyone had their own individual cake stand, full of sandwiches and cakes aplenty, served by the lovely and welcoming team. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a cosy afternoon tea or celebrating a special occasion. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you. It was wonderful !!

Absolutely beautiful hotel and wonderful service for our mums 90th birthday afternoon tea. The sandwiches and cakes were splendid and the lounge had a roaring fire which added to the ambience. Champagne was served by the wonderful hospitality of all who looked after us so well. Thank you so so much from all of us Highly recommend Darcey Butler with the Collins and Porter family.

Absolute gem! Sadly we only stayed for 1 night. Staff were fantastic, can't praise them enough! Lovely gardens. It's a 10min walk into Usk. If you're looking for a nice peacful break, this should definitely be considered!

I wish I could give them a better rating as the people are very friendly and the restaurant is Ok. However this place needs a major renovation. The couch in the room must be more than 30 years old. Look at the picture how it has many holes in the cover. The carpet in the room is dirty. The windows need to be cleaned. The outside of the hotel needs to be cleaned and painted. The shower in the bath tub is narrow and not easy to catch water etc. Cannot recommend

They worked incredibly hard to make a major birthday lunch go well, adjusting to numbers and layouts at the last moment. Credit to them.

Nice pub on the High St (Monnow Street), with pleasant beer garden. Live music venue with a popular Open Mic event monthly and occasional bands performing. A hidden gem, as you could easily walk by the small, discrete frontage, without realising it was there!

The venue itself is lovely, offering outstanding views of the river and a warm, welcoming atmosphere upon entry. The staff are friendly and attentive, with plenty of smiles, which adds to the overall experience. Unfortunately, the food falls short of expectations and feels overpriced for the quality provided. While I’m happy to pay more for good food, I expect it to deliver on flavor and value. The seafood pizza, which I’ve tried twice (hoping for improvement), was bland and rubbery, far from the standard I’ve enjoyed in other Italian restaurants or in Italy itself. My wife’s lamb shank was similarly underwhelming, lacking flavor. Desserts were another letdown—particularly the tiramisu, which was heavy on cream and light on the coffee-soaked biscuits, making it a far cry from the authentic Italian version. While the meatballs were enjoyable, the sauce was again bland, and the portion was unbalanced, with too much dry pasta and too few meatballs. Overall, while the venue is charming, the food lacks the freshness and vibrancy you’d expect from Italian cuisine. It’s a disappointing contrast to the beautiful setting.

Walked in the restaurant at 17.44 and had a table for 3 no problem. After waiting an hour we asked about our food and were told we were next and it would be out in 10 to 15 mins as they'd served a party before us who were going to the cinema. 15 mins later were told its OK you're next 10 mins. 15 mins later still nothing. Last straw was seeing them serve 2 tables before us who arrived after us. Walked out at 19.18. Waited 1 hour 34 mins. Seriously don't bother. Will never go again.
