Not great, lady serving said she was too busy to take an order without a table number - despite only 6 tables to choose from and my saying we would look out for it. Walked back downstairs out of building to garden to check table number then soup was salty and scone was damp (microwaved?)

The welcome when we came in was cold, as if we were a nuisance. Asking for a 'frothy' cappuccino was a step too far! They asked us what our table number was and we said we didn't know as we were going to sit outside and it was empty out there at that time. The man said "Just guess the number" rather impatiently as if we knew roughly how the tables were numbered and I wish I'd said 203,956. The atmosphere between staff was awful and the coffee wasn't great. Outside seating near the ghyll should have been lovely but there was rubbish everywhere (it was only 9:30am). Don't bother if you would like a warm welcome and a pleasant ambiance

Without doubt the worst customer service we have experienced. The staff were so unfriendly our kids literally refuse to visit Ambleside again!! Little surprise this unique and beautiful terrace was empty. should have known …If it looks to good to be true… it was!! We arrived for lunch carrying coffee cups and the staff welcomed us instructing that we don’t drink the coffee there and to take the cups with us. That was our welcome. After spending £40 on lunch the staff member then instructed that my daughter moved from a chair next to us as she was next to a vacant table. The terrace was empty and she was sitting there, while we waited for the food to arrive. The food was good, location lovely but the staff need to reconsider their career choices. Such a shame !!

If you want to sit by the river away from the bustle of Ambleside and have a decent coffee and cake this is the place to go. However, the staff are not very accommodating. We went twice. The second time they wouldn't bring coffees and cakes outside as they said they were short-staffed - they had 3 customers at the time and 4 or 5 staff! Shame as could be so great. Coffee and cake good. Other food looked basic.

We dropped in today for a drink and a light lunch. Was told at the counter when I went to order that our choice was for the pre 1300 brunch menu, and as it was after that time we could not have it. The menu should state more clearly that this is the case, the notice is small and almost an afterthought, could be better displayed. Then other stuff on the menu had run out. There was a queue so we just ordered a couple of coffees which were ok. The table had smears of grease on it, I asked for it to be wiped down and to be fair they did that promptly. Staff were quite miserable and we did not feel welcome. That's fine, I can spend my money anywhere. Would not recommend this place and definitely will not return.

No lemon for the Earl Grey tea. Staff are so glum in here maybe a course on how to smile wouldn't go a miss!! Note to staff, if a customer acknowledges you and says hi, don't just blank them, it's not good for customer service and certainly not good for your business reputation. We won't return as there are far superior establishments with much more friendlier and welcoming staff!!

14 pounds for a sandwich and soup and the first words from the waiter serving us the food at the table was "Only drinks bought from us", referring to the two Costa drinks we had purchased some 20mins before deciding to stop at the Giggling Goose", all he achieved was no tip and convincing a customer to never to return. The food was ok, although not as described on the menu.

Although the staff were helpful and friendly the food was of poor quality. I asked for a pork, apple and stuffing hot sandwich. There was no apple and the pork was pre-mixed with thick gravy, which was not advertised on the menu. I swapped for a fish finger sandwich but the quality was no better; thick butter, a smattering of lettuce and deep fat fried goujons, and the fat did not taste fresh. The tea also tasted cheap. Disappointing for a lunchtime sandwich that cost about £20 for 2 people. We won't be recommending or returning.

Evite a toda costa.

When we walked in, we instantly felt chilled as did our dog. We felt the staff were a little disorganised but very welcoming of dogs and gave them a biscuit. However it was fairly expensive for what we had to eat and drink. The same in Kendal would have been about £5 less. Great if you need somewhere for your pooch to feel accepted but food-wise it was a 6/10 for price and presentation. Good for emergency rain cover and I can imagine in summer it'd be nice to sit outside by the stream/river outside.

We stopped for lunch and had a lovely sunny break in the weather, so sitting by the stream was great. But I felt it was expensive for what it was. Cheese and ham panini 7.50. Cornish pastie 7.95. The kids meals were better value at 4.95 and came in a cute hamper. Service was good but they missed off the crisps on the pastie, making the 7.95 price look bonkers, and it wasn’t the best anyway with a meat content of close to zero... I’ve had better ones from petrol stations. The panini and scone we had were nice and the kids enjoyed their food. Too pricey in my view and anything over 7 pounds for a jacket spud always turns me off!

Shame that such a lovely spot by the water has such an incompetent hospitality team. Ordered and told it would be a 10-15 min wait. After 45 mins went up to ask after food - told it was coming. Went back 10 mins later and pretty much stood over them while they prepped three sandwiches, a pastie and sausage roll. Yep, that’s all we ordered! Got a half baked apology and told it was busy. Cafe was half full and it’s a Saturday lunchtime in a tourist town. Hardly a mad rush and not my problem. Extra annoying cos we’d met family (we’re visiting from Australia) and didn’t have time to go for a walk around the lake with them. Food - which I waitered to the table myself - was average. These guys are very poor at catering for special diets. I informed them I was vegan but the food arrived covered in mayonnaise. I took it back and they were very apologetic. They re did it but then "forgot" not to put butter all over the baked potato, which I only discovered after taking a mouthful as it was hidden under the baked beans. I therefore had to send it back again. For me it is not a huge big deal in the scheme of things but I'd avoid this place like the plague if you have a serious food allergy. Tried to have lunch here today just to be told that due to “unforeseen circumstances” there would be no lunches today. We were starving and had already been to three previous places which were all packed, so we settled for a pork pie and a toasted tea cake. Both were mediocre at best. The place has great potential but doesn’t make the most of its opportunities.

Quaint little cafe on the river bank with tasty food, but the wasps were quite annoying but other than that a good place to eat

Scones and sandwiches are lovely when they arrive but the service was all over the place! Food came out wrong 4 times and then we STILL had to go up for a spare cup, milk for the tea and butter for the scones. Perhaps they were having a busy day with it being so sunny!

Called in here twice last week for a quick lunch - can’t fault the soup and a sandwich option. Really great taste and made fresh in front of you. Service is always prompt and cheerful. For a quick sandwich or cup of tea / slice of cake you really can’t fault it.

Had a snack here whilst in Ambleside to ride the Fred Whitton Challenge the following day. Just had a coffee and a scone. The scone was a little too heavy for my liking, the coffee was perfectly ok. The setting is lovely and on a hot sunny May day has a great continental feel.

Had a good wander around Ambleside and took a tea break with scones here because the setting beside the beck is so delightful. It was warm enough to be comfortable outside so we made the most of it. Very glad we did.

Visited for lunch Easter Monday. Sat outside, lovely, but tuna sandwiches not great. Easy to make them nice but tuna on plain white bread... bland to the max. Sorry Giggling Goose was much better last time.

This cafe does a small range of really delicious lunches. I had the ploughman's (it was called cheese & pie platter, or something similar) - lovely. Lovely outside seating area, & plenty of inside seating as well. Already planning a return visit later this year.

We chose this cafe because of its setting next to the water and being able to sit outside. The food and service was excellent.

Nestled away above the river this is a nice little cafe with very friendly staff. The food is all homemade and enjoyable. Reasonable prices. Dog friendly and seating inside and out.

We stumbled across this lovely quant cafe by the water mill. The sign that struck us was 'Rodders Cream' and afternoon tea. We decided to call in and so glad we did. We ordered 2 scones each which were actually in the oven cooking when we arrived. They are made on the premises and they were well worth waiting for. They were massive, which we didn't expect . Plenty of jam and clotted cream. So much so that we couldn't manage to finish both of the scones. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. A lovely little cafe with outside and inside seating. Well worth a visit.

We only wanted a coffee and a cake as it was only 11.15 AM but had to queue for 20 minutes behind people ordering hot food and spending ages deciding what they wanted at the last minute Nice stuff but it needs organising a lot better Guess as its volunteer run it depends very much on what the staffing is on the day They need a separate area for those just having coffee etc rather than a meal

Lovely setting to relax and enjoy the views having lunch or just a drink. A few had lunch said was nice. Me personally thought expensive for soup but enjoyed my coffee. Worth it for the views.

Tried the drive thru...waited and waited was nobody home?, Was it closed? Reversed out and entered the shop and waited at the counter and waited and waited....3 or 4 staff just chatting away oblivious to customers. 17:00 pm on Saturday. Outstanding service.

Good location, pleasant staff but expensive for poor quality coffee and stale cake. Was offered a refund on the cake which I declined.
