Great hotel with friendly and helpful staff, the service is second to none. The hotel bedroom are beautifully appointed, large carpark to the rear. Dining in the restaurant was a pleasure as both the food and ambiance were fantastic with a really nice product range served on the bar. Great cocktails too! warm and welcoming with a roaring fire.

Stayed 1 night with my wife and took up the indulgent upgrade for £204 to include prosecco on arrival, 3 course evening meal and breakfast. The room was amazing, very spacious and decorated to an extremely high standard. Room was also immaculately clean! (Room 114) The evening meal was so tasty, good portion size and good quality ingredients. The staff really made us feel welcomed and delivered efficiently and shown professionalism, whilst also engaging in conversation with us in the evening whilst enjoying a cocktail. As soon as we left this place, we are already talking about returning soon. Well done Team George Hotel!, you really make this place 👌

Wonderfully renovated and comfy hotel located so close to Stonehenge, the Hawk Conservancy Trust, and many other fun activities. Friendly staff, beautiful rooms, delicious food in a cozy dining area, and a bargain. We were able to get a gorgeous room with free parking for less than the cost of a bare-minimum room at several nearby hotel chains. Cannot wait to go again!

So sorry for this late review! The George Hotel holds a dear place in my heart for several reasons! Its ambiance is nostalgic, charming, and perfect for a quaint, historic English town like Amesbury. Although I intended to stay only one night, fate had other plans for me. As a novice driver in the UK (I'm Canadian), I hugged the left curb too much and blew 2 tyres on my road trip from London to Cornwall. I was lorried to the George Hotel where they took great care of me! Sam upgraded my single room to a room fit for a queen! He was accommodating, friendly, generous as I sorted out my tyre ordeal. It took 3 days. During this time, Sam and Matt helped me with whatever I needed, including the occasional use of the hotel's phone! I had a splendid time exploring Amesbury and its history. I walked to Stonehenge, thanks to Sam's hand-drawn map and treated myself with some delicious sticky toffee pudding from the warm, welcoming bar/restaurant when I returned to the hotel. Everything about my experience at The George Hotel exceeded my expectations and reminded me of how much I love the UK and its lovely people. Thanks for being part of another memorable UK adventure!

The family went for Sunday lunch and we were really impressed with the friendly service and the quality of the food. They have their own car park which was convenient. Noticed that you can't pay in cash, not a problem just an observation.

Stayed here whilst visiting the area for work, breakfast and dinner service was flakey, waitress was a little lazy and I couldn’t work out if tables were waited with ordering as some tables got it and others didn’t! Food was generally pretty good, although attention to detail could be better such as full salt and pepper pots! Room was ok, although I didn’t sleep well due to very noisy floors and paper thin walls, road noise was also pretty loud. As the floors are uneven, I had to place pillows along the bottom of the door to stop the light from the hall way flooding in! Bed was however fairly comfortable! All that said, I would stay again as it is a nice hotel with lots of character, but just ask for a different room on a different side of the hotel!

Lovely little hotel in Amesbury, just 10 minutes from Stonehenge. The quaint and very old building had charm, even if it made getting to the room very difficult (3 flights of stairs and various hallways under ever lower ceilings until we arrived in our attic room). The room itself was very comfortable and clean, the bathroom was newly renovated. Brief confusion with the extra bed for the toddler as it was provided without sheets, pillows and blankets. However, upon request, something from the adult collection was lovingly designed. Dinner in the pub was excellent, although service was a bit slow. Breakfast in the same premises the next day was equally delicious and typically British. Overall, a house with charm and perfect for excursions simply because of its proximity. Child-friendliness is very important! Only an older waitress fell through the cracks because of her grumpy demeanor.

We are here Friday as we couldn’t be bothered to cook! This place could be so so lovely but sadly the food does not match up to the setting. Our starters were good, especially the scotch egg but the mains just seemed like they were brought in, pre-made microwave meals. I had beef ragu with rosemary dumplings but what actually came was salty beef mince with peas and hard plain dumplings. My husband had confit duck which was ok but clearly not fresh. We didn’t stay for desert. It was also such a shame to see it so empty on Friday evening.. honestly food is everything and if they brought the food up to standard, we would visit all the time as we are local and we really need some decent places to eat in Amesbury. I doubt there is much return custom which I would imagine would make such a difference in a place like this. We’ve eaten here a few times and the food has never been amazing but has definitely been of a better quality than we got on Friday night!

Waited 1hr and 10 minutes for our food order to come. Cabbage was not cooked properly. Beef wA stringy. Wrong items cooked. Fish batter was cooked but fish inside was raw and smelled of rotten. They say one child eat free on Sundays for every paying adults but we where still charged.

Room was OK, a small single fine for one night. Dinner was pretty good, but 4 of us ordered steak either medium or medium rare, they all came rare. I was advised against the cheese board by the waiting staff so opted for crumble which was good. Staff seemed keen to close up so we were done before 10! Bacon sandwich for breakfast was poor

Great experience over dinner with a group of colleagues. Staff were very accepting of our (my) loud behaviour on occasion and would highly recommend a stay/food/drink at The George - Grace put up with far too much from us and is highly commended for her patience!

This was our second time stopping at The George to break our journeys from Devon. The perfect coaching inn! Both times, the food, service, and atmosphere were fantastic and thoroughly delightful stops. The only negative is that it is too nice and leaving is such a hardship. One day, we will look to stay. Thank you.

We stopped in here for lunch, which was nice. It has been significantly renovated since I was last in here years ago, and it is stunning inside, fantastic decor and very stylish furniture. The food was good to, I didn't realise there was this little gem in Amesbury, I will be back to sample some more.

Very nice hotel with a warm feeling. Room was well appointed, a bit drafty due to the very old window but no problem. Staff very welcoming. There is a decent sized car park to the rear of the building which is good. Breakfast was very good. Update June 2024. Once again excellent, thank you 😊

We had a really good night here. The parking available is great, they were very accommodating to our special requests. We requested a second duvet and they brought another big one. That made for quite a lot of duvet in the bed but it was extremely cozy. The bathroom threw me for a bit of a loop. We had a room where you had to go down stairs inside bathroom. It was generally clean and inviting tho. They had glutenfree options for breakfast, something we anticipated would be a bit tricky. Overall I really recommend it.

A lovely lunch with chums. A sunny Wednesday in marlborough - what could be better than that! The restaurant is narrow but very long and then opens into the garden- if warmed we may have used that. Very good spanish tapas and lots of it. Waitress was attentive and friendly. A great two hours chatting away and time drifted on. We would return

Waited with no one in front of me for 3 members of staff to have a chat about dogs for an unacceptable amount of time before someone even acknowledged me let alone took my order. Out of the 3 only one of them was actually working..customer service skills nil
