We spent three nights at this comfortable and friendly pub . The rooms were spacious , clean and they even provided a bed for our dog as we only bought blanket bed for her ! Coffee, tea and bottled water in the room and a breakfast of your choice . All this at a very reasonable cost. . Had a really good nights sleep on the comfy bed. ( I meant to make a note of the make of the pillows) Our thanks to the staff

Lovely welcome mid morning on a miserable Sunday. It looks like an old fashioned pub from the outside and could do with a bit of paint but inside is very pleasantly decorated. Comfy furniture and spacious. We both had full English, nice to get black pudding. Good quality ingredients and friendly staff.

The food at the George is good. I had the best Calamari I have ever had. That was a starter. There is too much Mexican and American, a little more staple English food would be an improvement.

Phenomenal little Gastropub located on the main high street. Me and my cousin were down in Croyde Bay celebrating his birthday and fancied somewhere nice to have a Sunday lunch. I wanted a roast but he wanted a Burrito?! Can you imagine a place that sold both to amazing quality?! Well, The George excelled at both! Chris (Landlord) and Verity (Asst. Manager) were amazingly friendly and so professional to use tourists! The roast was homemade and was lovely! My cousin cleaned his plate of that Burrito (he said it was one of the best he’s had!!) - it’s a Tradition (Birthday Burrito!!) .. I would recommend this place as a wonderful place for couples and families. It’s friendly, has great good and the staff are wonderful!

This hotel does not deserve the custom. I am 73 years old woman, on the state pension and very much enjoy my holiday's. I was thrilled for my husband and I to finally be able to go and stay in a holiday home in April, finally after really what would be 12 months of lockdown for us being pensioners. I decided to book the George as a break stop on the way to Cornwall, obviously not realising that you can only stay in Hotels for business purposes. However the George happily took my money. It wasn't until they took my money that they asked the reason for me travelling, when I told them they simply said that my hotel had been cancelled but KEPT MY MONEY !! This was all within 5 minutes of booking, no loss whatsoever to the George refunding me after 5 minutes but no they decided to make easy money out of a very vulnerable situation. Through Covid-19 most of us have come together helping one another trying to make the best of what has been a very bad situation. Not The George Inn, they are just happy to rob money off pensioners who have been in lockdown for over a year just to line their pockets. I intend to take this matter to court to see if they can get away with it. But this Hotel does not deserve our custom. SHAME ON THE GEORGE. Very rude manager too.

I am absolutely appalled with the treatment that I received from this hotel. On Tuesday evening I booked via booking.com a room for 1 night on Friday 16th April. I got put straight through to the George, chose my room, money was taken from my account. After this I was sent a list of COVID rules and asked why I was travelling, when I explained to travel to second home I was told that it was not allowed and I would therefore not be able to stay. I asked for my money to be refunded and the manager agreed that it was a genuine mistake that I had made, however he would not refund me my money back and this was within 5 minutes of booking. Although he had 2 rooms available at the time of me booking he said he had lost business within the 5 minutes this took place and was keeping my money. I am a pensioner who cannot afford to lose money like this, his attitude was very nasty and left me very upset, not knowing which way to turn. I understand that hotels have suffered badly through these lockdowns but feel it is very bad to pocket money from somebody who had made a genuine mistake.

Came here one night in half term expecting some proper pub grub. What we got was frozen food...literally, it was not cooked properly at all! Prior to this we had already seen the manager hurdle abuse at the staff, huffing and puffing around the place and not acknowledging any customers so we did not bother to notify the staff about our food we just left full plates and got a chippy on the way home. I must say the only good thing about our visit was the young girls behind the bar and serving us, they brought the atmosphere up and made us feel a lot better in these worrying times.

I booked a table for 6 of us for dinner online as we are holidaying in the area and what a gem it was. Hand sanitizer ready on entry, staff were face masks and we were showed to our table. The meals ordered were so enjoyable even the childrens meal was great to have a selection instead of the bog standard menus. Three of the group ordered the home made lasagne which they have highly recommended, whilst another had the chicken & pulled pork burger and I had the hunters chicken. Topped off with a pudding plus alcoholic /soft drinks.. With or without the meal offers, you wouldn't be disappointed with this restaurant. Will definitely be back.

Awful experience at The George Inn. A group of 6 of us came in for a pre-dinner drink and were treated with visible disdain from the outset by the main serving waiter (not bearded bartender, but gentleman serving to tables). We followed all social distancing guidelines and requests but he was rude and made it clear we were not welcome, rolling his eyes etc. A really unpleasant experience and a dampener on the evening. Also an awful pint of Guinness which had a huge foam on top and looked like it should have had a 99 flake in it.

Never set foot in Braunton before. I Don't know anybody or establishments therein.6 of us decided to visit the George on a Sunday eve for dinner. After checking the menu I ordered soup of the day, carrot and coriander, and received leek and potato. I make soup at home and my own soup is of a higher standard than the George. Food was served to us with us waiting 5 minutes for cutlery. 2 of us ordered home made beef lasagne. This had no beschemel sauce and was only warm in the middle. Two friends ordered pizza which was overloaded with fat satured cheese to the point of being inedible. The pint of Cornish Proper Job beer was also poor. Despite initially wanting a dessert we decided not to and to pay the bill and leave. The cost of one of the pizzas was removed from the bill when the diner was asked why he had only eaten the crust of it not the whole. Wecwere intending to eat and then have a beer afterwards. Such was the food disappointment we drove straight back to the hotel.I would commend anyone desiring to eat there, to look elsewhere

We booked a table and was greeted by a lovely man who was welcoming and friendly showing us the menu and taking our drinks order (however they had no drinks menu so we didn’t know the selection and had no idea on price). After this another waiter came over to take our food order and was very unpleasant, unfortunately I didn’t get his name but just felt as though he didn’t want to be there. Our starters arrived and they were very nice. I had calamari and my friends had white bait. So we thought the meal would carry on getting better but this was not the case. Our mains turned up, my partner and I had a chicken burger that was dry and only had a few lettuce leaves in but the chips were nice. My friend had a pizza that looked like it came from the Coop next door and the other friend had bangers and mash. We had to pay for everything there and then when we ordered. When we asked to pay separately the waiter became slightly annoyed at this which was unprofessional and felt like he just didn’t want to be there. The only positive I can take from this restaurant is the first staff member who greeted us and the chips. That’s it.I would not recommend going there for dinner until they change somethings but maybe drinks in the pub area would be nice.

We stayed here for night and I must say the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The pub as a great atmosphere and is popular with the locals. The restaurant of an evening looks really nice too. Our room was a basic room with a lovely shower room, very clean and presented very well the towels were plentiful too. The decor of the room was very homely with tea and coffee facilities also very nice gesture of homemade cookies. The heating within the room works really well very toasty. A very good point too was the parking over the road even though it is a pay and display once you have checked in,the staff register your car on the car park. This maybe very popular within the summer months but we had not problem parking. Although you are above the pub the room didn’t seem all that noisy but please be mindful your rooms are over a pub. So if it is total peace and quite you want perhaps consider this. Once the pub was empty and closed the room is totally quiet. Breakfast was included in our stay the only negative I would say was the wait for breakfast 1 hour. The staff member was very busy trying to keep everyone happy. The breakfast was really nice and I must say she kept you in coffee and juice whilst waiting. I would definitely consider staying here again if I was in the area. We had a great time thank you.

To quote the website ‘Food is something special at The George Inn, Braunton. Our resident chefs go to great lengths to source fresh, seasonal and local produce wherever possible.’What. A. Load. Of. Bunkum. With limited offer due to a last minute stop in Braunton we decided to pursue the George. Not sure what possessed us to stay. Dirty pub, decided to eat in the restaurant. We were on our own and should have realised..... the menu certainly showed no sign of being seasonal, however hungry teens meant we persisted. Food took a long time to come. Fervently hoping this was an indicator of freshness as per the above description it certainly wasn’t. I detail the offer:Steak and Ale pie. Was served with mash potato reheated - one teens was still chilled in middle. Vegetables were sweetcorn and broccoli. Sweet corn and steak pie?Ham egg and chips. Two slices of ham from a pre pack courtesy of the Co-Op next door. Gammon egg and chips was a dish of the day and passable. Certainly won’t be returning anytime soon. Delightful waiter who tried his best. But don’t waste your time or money!

I visited The George with my parents on a Saturday evening.I had won a voucher for 3 meals in one of their quiz nights so the meal with my parents wasn't going to cost me, and I had been pleased with the meal I had during the previous quiz night so I was looking forward to our meal.On arrival, we ordered some drinks, explained that we'd booked a table and the barman offered to put the drinks on our meal tab & said we'd be shown to our table in the dining room shortly. We took seats at a table in the bar and chatted until our booked time, but the waitress was conspicuous by her absence. We waiting a further 15 minutes & I got up and motioned to the barman towards the dining room and said "shall we just go up ourselves then" ?He agreed and said "yes, go on up".The dining room was almost empty apart from a young family with children sat in the corner. We sat ourselves down and apart from a wine list, the table was totally bare.We spent a few more minutes chatting and looking around, and I have to say that the dining room is quite pleasant, nicely decorated and good quality tables and comfy high backed chairs. After being left totally unbothered by waiter or waitress for about 15 minutes, I went up to the bar, caught someone's attention and politely enquired if the dining room offered table service ?"Oh yes" came the response and I stood there for a few seconds until the penny dropped and he followed with "I'll get the waitress to come out to you". I thanked him & returned to our table. The waitress arrived as promised, menus and cutlery in hand & I asked if there were any specials ? "Oh yes" came the reply, without any further explanation.I asked what the specials were, to be told that they were written on a board in the bar area, as if we should all rise from our table and walk to the other end of the building to read it for ourselves !I enquired if she might return and inform us what these specials were, which thankfully she was happy to do.Now the menu is pub grub, there's nothing on there very exciting, but equally it all sounded good honest pub food and we chose a rump steak, a lasagne and a spicy bean burger. When the food arrived, my burger was presented on a flat slate tile, with the chips in a small metal basket and the burger bun a black charcoal type.My opinion on this is that this culinary affectation is not supported by the quality of the food on offer, and is an unwelcome annoyance.A small salad garnish was also included and this was the best part of my meal, the vegetables were fresh & crispy, which is more than my bean burger was. It was like eating bubble and squeak in a bun.The lasagne had a solid impenetrable crust that indicated that this portion has possibly seen the inside of an oven on more than a few occasions. The inedible crust was lifted in one piece and put to one side, the interior of this lasagne offered nothing to please either the eye or the taste buds.My father ate the steak and said it was "ok" but as he'd ordered it well done, I don't think anything could have been done to ruin it.Dad was happy with his meal & I'm not going to detract from that positive note. The waitress returned, cleared the table and enquired if we wished to see the sweet menu. Both Mother & I were keen for something to mask the taste of our main courses & both chose the sticky toffee pudding and custard, dad opted for the apple crumble and whipped cream. The sticky toffee puddings were hot, decent portions with custard and were enjoyed greatly, rather like a starving waif would devour a plate of gruel. We didn't quite lick our plates, but we were glad of something edible we could enjoy.Dad enjoyed his crumble but was confused as to why his "whipped cream" appeared to have come out of an aerosol can.Once more we were left "unbothered" for a while after we'd finished our meals and unwilling to dally any longer, I made my way to the bar to settle the bill.Whilst waiting to attract a barman, I was engaged by one of the kitchen staff, dressed in his checked uniform, sat at a stool by the bar."Did you enjoy the food" he enquired. Now I admit that would have been the ideal time to regale this chap with a lengthy narrative on just how uninspiring the food was and actually, no we hadn't enjoyed it, but I chose to only say "it was ok" which I admit was a vast exaggeration on my part.He replied with "what about the steak, did you enjoy that"? I replied, quite honestly this time that my father had enjoyed it."That's good" he said "I've never cooked a steak before" ! I really didn't know how to reply to that, and as previously indicated, Dad had enjoyed it, I shan't offer any negativity about that remark from him.Thankfully, the barman appeared, I offered my voucher, which covered the entire food bill, leaving me to pay only for the drinks we had on entering.I left the waitress a tip, if only to thank her for being pleasant and cheerful.I would like to say that everyone we interacted with was very friendly, the place looked nice, it's obviously gone through some sort of recent renovation and it's a welcoming establishment. The trouble is, the staff don't seem to have basic skills relating to the hospitality industry. There are much better places to eat in Braunton and the surrounding areas, and if you're going to offer food in that town, it needs to be good quality, priced accordingly, offer this, with good service and you'll get repeat customers, regardless what type of food you offer.Mediocre food and a lack luster service at any price will drive customers away & discourage positive word of mouth. You have a lovely establishment and have obviously spent a lot on the refurb, please spend some time and money on training the staff on how to treat the customer and the kitchen staff in the cooking of standard food.I would cease the use of the quirky slate and basket, black buns & any other frou frou.Return to using standard plates & get the food quality as good as you can get it.Allow the food to speak for itself without unnecessary affectations.

Decided to celebrate our anniversary with a curry (we had had a delicious curry here when it first opened as an Indian restaurant) and was worried as we hadn’t booked a table - we need not have worried. It was like the Marie Celeste where we had to hunt the staff to ask if they were still serving food! We were finally asked, by who we thought was the maintenance man due to his appearance, if he could help. Looking at the dirty dishes piled up on the serving hatch we thought we were out of luck but no, we could have whatever table we like. He sold the restaurant layout as a view of the traffic or the dodgy decor! As we had just come off the beach We think he mistook us for holiday makers who would probably never be back. We were given a menu and our drink order finally taken. Our bottle of wine arrived and was placed on the table by a young girl who obviously couldn’t get away fast enough as she didn’t even open it. After placing our order we waited. And waited. And waited. We went to the kitchen counter (still covered in the same dirty dishes) and enquired about or poppadom starters to be told it was on its way out. Shortly after our main meals arrived! No poppadoms and chutneys for us then!! We waited again for our peshwari naan which finally came out burnt and blackened and tasting like soot. We returned this to the counter again ( still holding the dirty dishes) as no staff were to be seen to ask for a replacement which duly came by a different member of staff who took our empty curry dishes away. We were under the impression that peshwari naan contained coconut and raisins and were usually light and fluffy? Not so - flat and tough and containing a yellow substance only! No tandoori oven used here we think. Thankfully the curry was absolutely delicious and can’t fault the flavours of the dishes! During our meal we were disturbed by another couple wanting food but who did this by shouting through to the kitchen over the dirty dishes that we’re still there!! This got louder and as we were finishing our meal turned into shocking abuse being shouted at the chef as their meal had t come out quick enough!! No one intervened. We asked the young waitress, who was setting up for breakfast, if we could have the bill and she apologised for the commotion going on behind her. We asked for the manager at this point and was told that only the assistant manager was in. Imagine our disbelief when the ‘maintenance man’ came to our table. We explained our experience and told him that we we’re actually locals to which his face fell! He should have intervened in the abusive argument going on in the middle of his restaurant! We are so disappointed in The George as we like to eat local and support he local businesses but like they say - if the restaurant is empty - there’s always a reason!! The reason is obviously because locals are not returning and not recommending it their friends! Our advice would be to walk on by and go to the Siam bistro around the corner!

The bar man was very rude. We ordered a sandwich and soup. After half an hour we asked how long our meal would be as we only had a limited time in the car park and we were the only people in the bar. We were told we were after a table of 10 and it would be a while. We asked why they had not been told this at the time of ordering and would need a refund as we were running out of time at the carpark. The bar man slammed our refund down on the counter - very rude and aggressive. This was only a refund for the meal and not for our drinks as we had drunk half of them. After half an hour of waiting for our dinner we explained we were saving our drinks for our dinner. We asked to speak to the manager who turned up at the third time of asking. After a brief discussion with the manager we finally managed to get the refund for our drinks. At this point the bar man stormed off in disgusted having been over ruled by the manager. The bar man needs a lesson in customer care.

This review is about the restaurant only as we did not stay there. Booked for a family dinner on our last night on holidays. Food was very slow coming out of the kitchen, when it finally arrived we had bits undercooked (new potatoes), some over cooked (chicken pieces of kids menu) and some bits missing (popadoms). After sending food back, waiting for replacements and never getting previously mentioned popadom, we were all a bit fed up at that stage so decided against more drinks and deserts and opted for a swift exit. Seemed like the kitchen could not cope with the larger party that we were. Some couples around us got served fairly quickly and from what I noticed, did not send food back so perhaps if it's just the two of you - give it a go. Otherwise, avoid.

My apologies to the George for forgetting to post this review from September ’16.My wife an myself regularly holiday in or near Braunton and were aware that the OHH Company (local to our home area) had purchased the George so felt obliged to visit. We had two evening meal s here and we are absolutely full of praise for the management, venue, staff and food. For my two mains I had the calves liver and the duck breast and without any hesitation can truthfully say that they were the best I have had, even beating their restaurants local to us.Well done the OHH and we will be back.

We enjoyed and excellent lunch (seems odd this place is not better supported, very quiet the day we were there), good wine although a little pricey for North Devon worth it to be able to sit and relax without blaring music or being rushed by staff.Their Tuesday steak night - two steaks and a bottle of wine is excellent value as well.

Maybe we were just there on a bad day. The staff were very friendly and showed us to our reserved table. Unfortunately the two tables pulled together were different heights and set for 4 - the booking was for 5. The steak night offered lesser, smaller steaks with less trimmings - so we felt a bit like we had bought cheap insurance and then found out that the cover was low and the excess high. We were asked for our dessert order 4 times within a few minutes. One of the staff offered a multitude of ice creams but when it came to ordering there were only 4 on offer. One dessert was with strawberries but these didn't materialise, when we asked for these we received raspberries but that "someone would check downstairs for strawberries"?? We ordered a drink with dessert and this did not arrive. This is a beautiful place (I know The George of old) - this is indeed a very modern transformation that really works. I think maybe the staff will settle in to compliment this quality in time. The food was good the experience was just a bit confusing.

Have eaten here twice now. They do a fantastic Sunday roast best I've had in years totally faultless. However I have been back for a quick lunch during the week ordered a burger and chips. The burger was fabulous. But the chips , I have to point out, on the menu described as lovely triple cooked chips. I'm afraid there really weren't as described they were just very ordinary frozen slightly soggy chips. Which is fine just don't advertise them as something they're not

Braunton is currently going through a bit of a purple patch in terms of good places to eat out so the competition is strong but, on the evidence of our meal last Friday evening, The George is a welcome addition to the bunch. The new owners (OHH Pub Company) have done a great job with their refurbishment of the bar / restaurant (can't speak for the bedrooms) and the staff are friendly and (generally) seem to know what they are doing. Although perhaps a little over-priced for the area, the dinner menu is varied and our choices had good ingredients and were well cooked. OK wine list but again not cheap. All in all a nice meal out but I don't think certain other eateries in the village need to look over their shoulder too hard just yet.

Warm welcome, gorgeous room and on suite, great and value restaurant plus four hand pumped real ales on tap in the friendly bar. Yes, we are happy, so, if you are in this area and fancy staying in a totally refurbished old fashioned pub in the centre of this busy town, then stay here,

We should have known things weren't going to go well when we waited over 20 mins for 3 drinks even though there were only 3 tables with people. There were more staff than customers in the restaurant but we still had to go up and ask for our drinks twice before actually getting them. The meal was ok although the potatoes had obviously been heated up a few times. The beef was so rare - one of us had it cooked more which was done without comment. When we finished our meal we sat with uncleared plates for about 15 mins before anyone came near us to ask if we wanted anything else - by this time we were the only people in our part of the restaurant. We are so surprised by the favourable reviews of this restaurant - were we in another place?? The staff were all very young and seemed to be untrained and there was no one who seemed to be in charge. This restaurant needs to up its game in terms of customer service, which we all thought was very bad.

This pub/ restaurant is under new ownership and has been tastefully refurbished throughout. We were amazed at how we were immediately welcomed as we walked through the door and then helped in our choice of drink by the extremely knowledgable staff. The staff greeted and thanked all customers in this manner, a refreshing change these days. The menu and food looked delicious, unfortunately we had already made arrangements to eat elsewhere but we will soon return to eat. Do not miss the opportunity to drink and eat in this establishment, they serve really good, local beers, craft ales plus the normal array of lagers etc. they also have some of the more unusual spirits and serve them in an unique way.

Once in our room which was clean, fresh and provided everything we needed - lovely ensuite, good storage and great coffee/tea/hot chocolate machine with endless supplies, there was little traffic noise and a fan was a welcome extra during an August evening. Breakfast was freshly prepared and served with great courtesy and a smile. When in Braunton we will definitely stay st the George and hopefully for longer!

Stopped in for dinner with our friends on Saturday night for a birthday meal. They had their two little dogs with them so it was nice to see a 'dogs welcome' sign on the entrance. Got a table, drinks and menu straight away from a lovely waitress who was very friendly. The menu had a lot of tasty looking things, but 3 of us went for steak, which was cooked perfectly, and my girlfriend had a vegetarian fish which she said was really good. The bar manager came over to see if our food was ok and we had a nice little chat. Friendly staff, nice fresh decor and fantastic food. We will definitely re-visit and highly recommend.

Turned up for family meal whilst on holiday. Had been disappointed the day before with our visit for breakfast which was slow and the service, albeit polite, was not organised and we had to ask for everything from cutlery to salt/pepper and ketchup.Despite this, we thought we would give it another go for Sunday Roast. Wished we hadn't bothered, no Roast and not enough steak for us to all have. The service was beyond slow and we were the only people in the restaurant. We only had one drink offered to us and never saw so much as a glimpse of the waitress so could ask for another one either. Again no offer of ketchup or if we require anything else to compliment food, so had to find for ourselves. The plain burger I requested for my 9 year old came with salad and when I politely mentioned I'd specifically requested plain I was met with a irritable attitude that the pulled pork and bacon had been removed, so what more did I expect! A plain burger is just that - plain. The food however was wonderful and it is a shame that the lack of organisation is letting this place down. It is too expensive for that level of service

Have been for a meal before and decided to take friends there for their first experience.Service excellent but the meals were exceptional. We all agreed it was arguably the best we have ever tasted and done to perfection. The two steak meals were as asked for which in many restaurants are hit and miss. The two loins of pork meals were also top drawer. Everyone commented on the quality and taste. Crème Brulee triple was delicious. Wines also VG but pricey. Staff friendly and attentive. One criticism is the amount of discarded cigarette butts outside on the pavement area. Probably need more frequent sweeping outside as first impressions are important.

since its refurbishment we have visited on many occasions fpr lunch and dinner and have been happy on all visits. In Braunton the service industry is dominated by the Squires family and to succeed you have to provide a consistently good service, I did think that The George would survive but after tonights visit I think it doubtful, They were short of staff, the lovely waitress that used to greet us as long lost friends has gone, the waitress with the blue hair is still there, and she is thier greatest asset, The two young uys behind the bar at best poor, 4 sets of people entered the bar and left without ordering as no one acknowledged them, the ladies toilets were awful, no lock on one door, hand drier not working, no paper towels, no toilet paper. £20,00,for what was described as rack of lamb but came as over done cutlets,so very disappointing,as a local I can only advise you to get a good manager in otherwise after the summer visitors have been and gone you will not be trading for long in Braunton, and that will be a loss,00

As Braunton residents we welcome the transformation of the George under its new management. It had been allowed to go down hill since its Thai cuisine days and we had given up going in so we were looking forward to someone taking the place by the scruff of its neck and giving it a good shake. The place now has a fresh, airy and welcoming feel to it and in the few weeks since its refurbishment we've been in for a morning coffee, an evening drink in the bar - the house Pinot Noir is excellent - and on several occasions with friends to try out the new menu. We haven't been disappointed. The staff have been unfailingly welcoming, courteous and efficient and the food has been terrific. We made a point of trying the Sunday lunch this weekend. It was superb. We are delighted to see that the village has another excellent restaurant to join those already here and wish everyone on the staff at the George a successful future and hope the village and visitors will support them.

Selection of different roasts (Chicken, Slow cooked pork belly, Rare Sirloin Beef, well done Beef and a mini beef roast) We went for the pork and the rare beef. All super tasty with nice trimmings and great homemade horseradish. Out toddler demolished half my pork, 2 whole carrots and a massive yorkshire pudding! Desserts were great too. Quick service and we would definately recommend, nice and bright inside and much more inviting than the old george! A great addition to Braunton.

But sure enough after checking and checking again, this was the George Hotel. We were told that half the items on the menu were unavailable to order. When our order arrived, every item was different to the description on the menu. Horrifically greasy, over cooked food that none of us finished. No salad, despite each dish promising salad. The food was the worst any of us had been served in this country. Really, really horrid. We told the manager and we didn't have to pay for our food, thankfully. They should not have served food that evening as it was clear that they were not in a position to do so - we were the only diners there that evening as well.We shall never return. So disappointing!

We stayed for 2 nights as we were attending a local wedding. The George is under new management (3 weeks), so I'm not sure what it was like before. The room was well appointed with plenty of space and an on-suite. The bed comfortable and the bathroom clean. Need to put up a loo roll holder as a tad awkward without one and the light fan makes a lot of noise after not being used for a few hours. We worked this out and it wasn't a problem for us. It was a bit of a shock to be told upon arrival that we had to pay cash, we should have been pre-warned of this as they had our telephone number. (Apparently problems with the machine as under new management and not connected.) Breakfast was fine although very greasy. Although it stated on the menu that it was fried, we didn't expect to have to drain the oil off the bacon onto a napkin before eating - perhaps a griddle could be used so less oil? Their must have been a different cook working for each day as the breakfast on Saturday was better than Sunday. Would have been nice to have had a pot of coffee instead of one cup of coffee. We sat in the bar and had a couple of drinks and the atmosphere was friendly. We didn't eat here as we were meeting up with family. All staff/management we met were very nice. We would stay again.
