The best Moules a la Creme outside Brussels but for one thing, it was described as Moules Mariniere which it most definitely wasn,t. But the mussels were big, juicy, succulent in a cream sauce to die for. Pity the Chicken Kiev had no garlic butter AT ALL. And when I asked to talk to the chef to congratulate him on his mussels he never came - the difference between a family resturant and a commercial one. What a pity.

We have eaten at the George a couple of times previously and love it as a restaurant. However we got married here a month ago and could not recommend this place more! We hired The George out for a full day and had an intimate day with our family and close friends and then a big party at night for around 100 guests. The run up to the wedding was seamless and Lynsey was amazing at planning and making sure everything was covered and organised. On the day, all of the staff were really accommodating and helpful with the set up and also incredible and attentive all day and night. The whole day and night was seamless and the venue looked gorgeous. The garden here is amazing and was the perfect backdrop for our photos. The big bifold doors opened up all day making the space perfect for the whole event. The food was really lovely and all of our guests enjoyed it. The George were very accommodating and allowed us to have our family back at the venue in the morning for breakfast, which was as expected, delicious. The rooms are also lovely and big. Would recommend this place for a meal or a drink (Several of our guests have been back since for a meal and loved it!) but would also recommend for any event!

I really shouldn’t be telling the world how wonderful this place is….I want to keep it all to myself !! …….but that would be unkind to the owners who have made this venue so beautiful. We had our lunch in one of the most beautiful gardens you could ever wish for….flowers, trees, lawn, beautiful presented tables and chairs, quiet ambiance and quality service….heaven !! I gave it my highest rating…..five stars……and that’s a rarity for me. A ‘ good fault “ is that the excellent chef is too generous. But, all in all, such a quality establishment is seldom found in “ this day and age “. We hope and wish the proprietor and staff continuing success for the future. Thank you.

Decided to have lunch here midweek on a very hot day, arrived 12.30ish and it was busy. Decided to sit outside under the parasols which was lovely in the warm weather. Staff were attentive and there was a good choice on the menu. We chose the fish platter and chicken Kiev, both were very good and we enjoyed them. I ordered chips with my platter but really it was adequate without them. The one thing I will say about sitting outside is that the chairs are not the right height for that tables when eating food. We both found outselves bending at an odd angle which made it difficult to eat. So I would suggest outside for drinks and inside for eating. Overall a lovely meal.

Overnight accommodation is very limited if you wanted to visit the town of Market Harborough so we extended our search a little further afield to the village of Great Oxendon and found this little gem; The George which is about a 10 min drive away from MH. It's a pub with 4 rooms. We were given a lovely warm welcome when we arrived and we able to check in a bit earlier which is always very handy. We absolutely loved our room. It had been decorated beautifully and was light and bright with lots of space. Ensuite was also of a high standard. We had a few drinks in the bar which was lovely and cosy with an open fire and then booked in for dinner which was also very yummy. Breakfast in the morning was unreal. So much choice and the quality was exceptional. What really makes this place stand out, are the staff and their attention to detail. They really do want to make your stay very special so we are very grateful to each and every one of them for a really lovely time. If I was to mention anything slightly negative it would be that when you are in your room, you can hear noise from the bar/restaurant/kitchen but that's really the only thing to mention.

Having been several times to this Restaurant Sister Pub we were looking forward to trying this weeks Auberge menu. On paper the menu was appealing. In practice the fish cakes were bland, the Chocolate Brownie was unlike other Brownies we had tasted and this is not a positive remark. The Stroganoff seemed as if it came straight from a microwave pack. We left very disappointed and will in future use the Sister Pub where over several visits every course has been tasty and well presented.

We were here for Sunday lunch, an anniversary actually. The staff are always great but today we felt the lunch could have been more interesting. There were no roasted root vegetables, there was no red cabbage, no Yorkshire pud with the pork, no butter on the veg and the potato mash could have been something more interesting as there were already roast potatoes. The pork was a little tough. The gravy was lovely as was the mash. The roast potatoes were fine and the mixed veg all nicely cooked. The rhubarb semifreddo needed more rhubarb and the lemon posset needed more lemon - the Viennese biscuit was delightful. We did end up feeling slightly disappointed. This is a very critical review and should perhaps therefore be scored a 3 but The George is wonderful and we felt this was an attempt to keep prices down - the three courses for £26.95 is very reasonable for a restaurant of this quality. But we would rather the Sunday lunch was more yummy and cost more.

We were cycling The Midshires Way and found our way to Great Oxenden via a precarious but pretty footpath (The Jurassic Way) with steps from the main track. Path NOT recommended if you have heavy cycles as there are two stiles en route. It ‘is’ a footpath, not a bridleway I suppose, so be warned. The George is a gastro-pub with a large car park and is finished beautifully inside. It also has a delightful patio area and gardens to enjoy in good weather. There isn’t a way around to the back so they kindly let us roll or bicycles through the dining area to the garden so we could keep a close eye on them. It’s a full service establishment so drinks are brought to you which was nice and the landlady/manager was friendly and welcoming. I chose the Friday fish and chips special which wasn’t one of the posher choices on the extensive menu, but it was delicious with freshly prepared mashed garden peas and a very nice tartare sauce. I chose the chunky chips which were tasty, cooked perfectly and very plentiful. It was good value at £16 We were treated to a thick slice of fantastic homemade bread which was delicious. My wife chose the sirloin steak, which, at £25, wasn’t cheap and unfortunately was very gristly. The flesh was very nice, but it was a struggle and not ideal. When we mentioned this however and showed the gristly, stringy remains the staff were disinterested and no offer was made to reduce the bill, which would definitely have been appropriate. We aren’t serial complainers but in the light of the lack of response regret not sending it back to the kitchen straight away. You live and learn. It’s a shame because this is a pleasant, sophisticated place with a warm welcome and at least initially, good service. If you are looking to dine in the area, In preference I would recommend a real treat, The Bull’s Head at Clipstone, which is considerably less expensive than The George. The Bull’s Head also differs in that it is a genuine country pub but with outstanding food and great service. We also tried The Stag at Maidwell, which was good and reasonably priced. They do close at 3pm on a Saturday though so be prepared to be cast out into the rain if you’re unlucky with the weather as we were ! 🤪

Situated on the main Harborough to Northampton Road, there is plenty of on site parking. The decor is welcoming and there is a lovley garden for the Summer months with proper tables and chairs (not picnic benches). We visited on a Friday lunchtime when the special of the day was Fish and Chips, the full menu was also available at this time. Having seen a meal being served we felt we just had to go for the special which was £16.95 inlcuding a glass of wine. Portions were generous and we were not disappointed. Service was friendly. We will be returning to try some of the other items on the menu, worth a visit.

As we had our toddler with us, I telephoned beforehand to ensure we could have a suitable table to avoid disturbing other diners. The staff were very thoughtful and reserved a table in the main restaurant and another in the bar area for whichever we felt best suited us when we arrived, which was very helpful. The food was good both in terms of quality and value (including my sons food). The service was attentive and welcoming. The variety on the drinks menu and wine list was also good. The food choice was excellent - there were a couple of Sunday roasts but 4 or 5 other options and plenty of starter and dessert options. We couldn't have had a better wedding party. Married in January with five guests then a party here in September with 45 guests. The George always does top quality food and they did that for a large party - choices of confit duck, beef medallions or sea bass for our mains and all expertly cooked with special additions like crispy crab ravioli with the sea bass. We were nervous about not having chicken on the menu but no complaints! We had two canapé tastings and they were even better on the day. The service was just great, professional and friendly and doing their absolute best to make it a great day for us - and they did. The DJ we hired did his best to subtly spoil it for us but he got people on the dance floor so no problem at all. I recommend to anyone hiring a DJ to pay half before then half afterwards so you have a little control on the day. The George is a beautiful venue, quite hard to describe but very modern inside with an open plan design with a couple of nooks and crannies and a lovely terrace with big glass doors next to the dining space. We highly recommend you hire The George for any celebration.

Despite only living a few miles away, I'd not been to The George in over a decade. We had friends staying over so thought it would be a nice venue for an evening meal. Having arrived about an hour prior to our table booking we had pre dinner drinks sat on comfortable sofas by the wood burner... Absolutely perfect on a damp November evening, we were given menus and ordered our food whilst sat in this area. We were shown to our table a few minutes before our starters came out, giving us a chance to top up drinks etc. The food we selected was a mix of items from the menu and extensive blackboard choices. All the dishes were nicely cooked and presented and the service was prompt and polite. After dinner we returned to the bar area for a relaxing post-dining chat and drink... Overall a wonderful experience and reasonably priced and I promise I won't leave it a decade before returning.

Having eaten here many times since it has been refurbished we have always had excellent service and amazing food. Sadly this was not the case yesterday for our table of four. We decided to order from 'the specials board' and 3 of us ordered our favourite Beef Stroganoff we did not have starters so after a very long wait asked if we could have bread rolls only to be told they will be served 5mins before your meal. We were offered sliced bread no rolls just before our meal, the Beef Stroganoff looked and tasted more like Beef Bourguignon there was no cream or creme freiche and a very small portion. It was edible but not what we had ordered. The head waiter looked surprised when we complained offering no explanation, after another lengthy wait was told our choice of dessert was not available. The head waiter did offer us complimentary coffee/tea but the whole evening was disappointing and lacked the usual high standards.

First visit here, 12 of us, had to pre order our menus which meant we didn't know what the specials were or the soup of the day. One of those menus where you have to look up what dishes are eg. Au Poivre Sauce, Petit Pois Francias. Lovely old building, recently renovated, lovely garden at the back. Struggled to park as car park is not big enough, had to park on the road. Five of us ordered the Fillet of Beef, it arrived rare, three of us, interestingly the women, couldn't eat it rare and ended up giving it to the men who were quite happy to eat it rare. Which was disappointing and expensive at £24.50, there wasn't much else on the plate, small amount of potato and some green beans. I wish they had asked us at some point how we want our beef cooked, perhaps they would have asked if we had ordered on the night at the table. The dessert - Chocolate Brownie was delicious however. Service was a little slow, we had to go to the bar for drinks, no one came to the table and asked us if we wanted drinks. They were very busy. Not sure i would return as i struggled to choose off the limited menu and then it wasn't right.

This is now our go to restaurant, the food is consistently good. The menu caters for most fancies. Auberge Monday & steak Wednesday offer tremendous value for money. The service is friendly & professional, special mention to Ellie & Lauren.

We took some friends who were visiting us to The George for a meal recently. The team at the George were so helpful and accommodating in relation to special requirements I requested prior to and during the evening we visited. The service by the team was excellent throughout the evening and the food was well presented and tasted delicious as always.

We had been to the newly re-furbished George for their set lunch menu a few weeks ago which was excellent. The gardens are beautiful and very relaxing for a pre-dinner drink. So we decided to try the 2 steaks and bottle of wind on a Wednesday for £29.99.

Very friendly & attentive service, with good menu, which is value for money. A thougerly enjoyable experience, in a nicely decorated restaurant and the ability to sit outside in very well maintained gardens. Will certainly be visiting again.

First visit to have lunch, were told to sit at the unpleased side pub section to wait, although we could see most of the tables in the dining section were vacant. Waited the best part of 10 minutes, so we decided it was not worth the wait for a meal that we would be paying for, and may or may not be any good.

A lovely gastro pub to have a sandwich and a drink on a Saturday lunchtime. They have a beautiful garden to the rear. The sandwiches were delicious and the service excellent. We will continue to return here time and time again for both a quick lunchtime sandwich and their lunch/dinner menu.

Hidden treasure here in a location so many have driven past without a second thought. Jamb on your brakes, dress in your good casual gear and enjoy food you should be paying more for!! Food and drink options terrific and delicious and generous portions. It mostly just the great food that brought us back again, the location and awesome service being a bonus.

Hadn't been here since they refurbished, WOW, what a wonderful job they've made, very plush and well planned out. Three of us for lunch, fantastic selection, expertly cooked and presented. Staff were extremely courteous, going to book dinner there over the next few nights.

We are regular patrons of The George, together with another couple that we regularly dine with. Ellie and her colleagues are always welcoming, together with the lovely log fire and comfy sofas in the reception area. The ambience is cool and calming. The food is delicious, and we've sampled a lot of the menu, never having been served a bad meal. At busy times, yes the service can be a bit slow, but then again we are never in a hurry so this does not concern us. For us eating out should be savoured not rushed... The menu changes regularly and we always find it hard to choose from several delicious options. Portion and price wise it's hard to fault!

4 of us booked for 8pm. All the food was great and the staff and atmosphere. We’ve been here a few times and have never had a bad meal. First time for our friends and they loved it. We look forward to returning in the Summer as the garden is lovely for pre dinner drinks. Total bill with wine and drinks £ 160

The George has had a complete makeover since my last visit a few years back. It is now a modern gastro pub. The food was interesting and excellent. The service was good and the waiting staff were attentive. The raspberry soufflé was a great tasting but unfortunately no raspberries. However they were very apologetic and did not charge so basically turning it into a plus. The only problem was we were seated very close to the fire and so one of our number was far too hot.

... but wasn’t. Strange, as this was one of the better meals we’ve had around here recently. Service was excellent. Quality and presentation of food also very good. I hadn’t been to the George for years but will definitely be going back. This place should be really busy and needs supporting as we need restaurants like this around here.

The 2 times we have been here for lunch we could not fault it. Excellent friendly and professional service. The food was also excellent, fresh, delicious and using local suppliers too. Absolutely beautiful furnishings and we are looking forward to summer to sit in the beautiful garden. We are also planning to visit for dinner one evening and I am sure we wont be dissapointed.

Came off the motorway to find somewhere to eat. We struck lucky, as just got there in time for food. Fillet steak sandwich was truly excellent and would definitely use again.

Scallops and black pudding starter decent enough. Cod and chorizo risotto also good. Treacle tart pudding the highlight. Nice staff. Decorated like a new build show home.

My Dad who lives in Oxendon and has done for many years took over the pub for his Birthday lunch for about 80 people. The pub has recently been totally refurbished and is totally unrecognisable from days of old when it was my local. The decor is tasteful and it now feels light and bright. Family who stayed in the rooms were very happy with the accommodation too. The staff were fantastic the service seamless and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for memorable day

The Staff at The Olive Branch always have a smile and they are volunteers. Nothing is too much trouble and they always make us feel welcome. The Homemade Cakes look delicious and the large Cheese Scones are always eaten by my friends. In the colder weather my friends usually have their soup and I always see someone in there eating a Full English Breakfast at lunchtime.

A proper pub/restaurant in West Haddon. Our first visit on Thursday evening, met by welcoming and friendly staff. How good to see a menu of interesting and diverse dishes. And it did not disappoint. We had starter of Ham Hock Terrin, followed by the Beef short rib and The Brisket pie both with fresh vegetables. All well cooked and presented by an obviously competent kitchen. Everything was exellent. The food and drinks were very competitively priced and the whole place had a good vibrant atmosphere. We will be back soon to try some of the other mouth watering dishes.

Visited on a Saturday night. It’s a warm and inviting stone-built country pub. The menu has a few interesting Portuguese influences and I can recommend the house red wine which is also from Portugal. The menu is not extensive but I’m sure most people would find something they like. I had a pint of prawns followed by lamb cutlets, which came with some nice green beans and new potatoes. The bill for 2 including 3 glasses of wine and dessert was around £100. Not cheap, but good value. It’s a very good option in an area not well served for gastropubs. It’s also dog friendly.
