Stopped here for lunch during a group hike. It was amazing. Super friendly staff, and they even made me a customised gluten free lunch (even cooked chips in the oven for my so they wouldn't be contaminated in the fryer which was super kind). Really amazing atmosphere and environment.

This was the first time we had been to this pub and was pleasantly surprised, very friendly staff, Sue was the Manager / owner, lovely lady and our waitress Poppy also very nice, we had a Sunday lunch, my partner had the Roast beef and I had the Nut Roast, beautifully presented on lovely hot plates, very nice veggies etc. We also had a dessert of cheese cake and Raspberry compote and cream. My partner had a real ale, (very nice indeed) I had a JTO. We had an Americano coffee to finish off the meal. We found that all the toilets were very clean and the hand dryers were the best we've seen/used anywhere. Plenty of things going on in the pub like a Jazz night and also tribute acts out in the garden most weeks usually at 4pm, no need to book. We will definitely be going back to some of those events. P

A lovely countryside pub, accessible by many of the surrounding walks or large free carpark outside. Wide ranging menu with traditional pub food and a specials board. What immediately struck us about our first, but will most certainly not be our last visit to the 'George' was the the convivial 'local's local' feel. We were reminded of a verse from the 'Cheers' theme... "Sometimes you wanna go Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You wanna be where you can see Our troubles are all the same You wanna be where everybody knows your name" The delightful Sue, owner, host, order taker, amber nectar dispenser and general front-of-house heartbeat of the George made us welcome and already one of the family. Subsequent diners were greeted by name, as were their young 'uns and as were their dogs. It was a crisp sunny Sunday, perfect for taking the pooches for a brisk walk followed by a bevvy and possibly lunch. The menu is small but perfectly formed, ranging from tasty 'snacky' to our choice, a generous serving of a very good roast beef and vegetables, served promptly on warmed plates. We didn't have room for dessert but made it anyway, I had the hot treacle pudding with a lake of warm custard, & 'imself was persuaded to have the Chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. He scarfed the lot, declaring it "the best brownie he's ever eaten". He was enthusiastic about the Moretti lager as well, especially as I was the designated driver! The maestro behind these culinary delights is Allan, husband of Sue, who together own the quaint, beautifully restored and eclectically furnished George & Dragon Free House. We enjoyed our lunch immensely; our visit mercifully didn't break the bank and to sum it all up, no sooner were we home that I was browsing 'Rightmove' for houses for sale within dog-walking distance. Well, a girl can dream, cant she? Thank you Sue & Allan.

Popped in for a refreshing pint of Tonbridge Easy Street Pale ale having walked 6k from Tonbridge. For a Wednesday 5pm, nice to see a few people in the pub and outside in the pub garden. Didn't have any food, but the menu looked good. It's a proper country pub and whilst I was probably the only one who walked there, there was a generous sized car park that most used. A couple of nice ales on tap and a lovely classic fee to the pub with the low beams and tasteful decoration. Aim to pop back another time and try out the food, but there are also music/quiz/other events the pub seems to advertise on a regular basis.

I had a bitter shandy to drink which was made with a local brew in Tonbridge which was very morish. Shame I was designated driver!!!!! Plenty of parking & an olde worlde ambience inside. Live music is also played here. We booked a table for 3 & dog who was welcome & went on to look at the stain glass windows designed by Chegall in All Saints Church 3 mins drive away (also with plenty of parking).

Service was friendly and although the roasts looked good I went for the steak and ale pie which was excellent. Prices were very reasonable. Couple of ales on, the local Tonbridge brewery beer I tried was in good condition. Everyone in our group from the toddlers to grandparents were very happy. The large garden should be good in the summer. There's a large car park and the pub is in a good location for the many walks you can do in the area. In fact the pub had a few walking guides for guests to browse through. Looking forward to coming back.

So I'm not trying to be unjustified here and I'll explain. The food was very nice, the staff were also very nice. However after my starter which was very nice, we had our mains brought out, 2 burgers meals, a sandwich meal and a kids meal. Now I ate a few chips first, then decided to make a start on my burger, it was reasonable enough to pick up at eat, I turnt the burger upside down to let it cool down more underneath, and I noticed something odd about the beef burger, upon closer inspection I found that the separation slice of plastic hadn't been removed from the burger before it was cooked. I kindly went to a staff member and asked them to come over as to not cause a scene with other guests, and showed it to her to which she was slightly shocked and decided to make me a fresh burger, which I was happy to do, unfortunately everyone else finished their meal before I got my meal back so I ate alone whilst everyone else waited as they wanted dessert. Now personally if I was in the position of the staff member during this incident I would have most definitely given a discount for the inconvenience cause. However me being the kind person I am didn't want to demand a discount but was pretty sure that they would do that as a standard thing as an apology. But I got charged full price for the meal with no deduction. Which really annoyed me, and I did say to myself before hand that if they didn't offer something for the inconvenience I would leave a bad review. And so here it is. The staff should have offered something for the inconvenience cause and the health hazard of there being plastic in my food. Otherwise it's a nice place to eat as long as the chef isn't having a "bad" day. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo before I showed the staff member in good faith they would say "hey sorry for that here's xx% off the meal." But No. (Reply to response) At no point was the rum and Coke said to be complimentary, I was merely asked if I wanted another drink, which initially was offered as a "coke" which costs your business very little, untill I said it was actually a rum and Coke I was drinking, replacing my meal is standard procedure. I'm sorry you feel the review is "harsh". I'll add a star out of kindness. However it did partially ruin a nice day out, having to eat after everyone else had finished. Could have been a totally different story if I didn't realise the plastic was there and had actually eaten it..

Recently had lunch here after visiting Chagall's stained glass at All Saints Church. Pub was empty although we had got there at about midday. We were wanting lunch. We wanted to choose a nice table, but this seemed to be problem to the staff. We wanted the loo and just wanted to wander and choose a place. The loos (ladies) are marvellous. So we settled down and ordered our lunch. My friend wanted a pint of lager, why not?, I wanted a J20, driving. Had lunch OK, nothing special but tasty. About three times through our lunch, a member of staff kept telling us that we "had done very well". My friend then ordered another pint of lager, and again, she was told that she had "done very well". I felt rather embarrassed by this as my friend is older than me, but she has lived a life and is a very accomplished lady and certainly knows her limits. Then, when we had finished our meal, we were once again told that we had"done very well". I am not sure whether we were being treated like a pair of elderly old ladies, or, little children who had done well in eating up nicely. No complaints really at all. Nice ambiance, lovely clean loos, decent food, but please please please, stop the patronising "you've done very well" Thank you.

We tried the restaurant because we were looking for a place to take friends for my husbands birthday. My husband was very pleased with his sea bass and although the steak pie was a little dry, the meal itself was good. We booked for four days later for four people. Although there were very few people eating lunch, no others in the actual restaurant, we had a very long wait even for the initial olives. The four meals were served together. The lady owner apologised for the delay but there had been ‘a problem’. Unfortunately the four meals did not come up to our expectations and we’re disappointing, Embarrassing when you have guests. Basically our two visits were a ‘hit and miss’ situation but probably not one we will try again for a while. A great pity because they have refurbished the restaurant very well and the staff were very pleasant and accommodating.
