The George in Rhondda Cynon Taf

What a brilliant suprise. We had 2 ribeye steaks and a drink on Steak Thursday and it was sensational. Cooked to perfection and a decent size too. Staff could not have been any more helpful. Wish I took a photo now, but it wasn't on the plate long enough. Special mention to Paul the Chef and Paddy for his hospitality and our waiter who was great as well. Loads of parking, plus the train station is only 2min walk away We'll be back soon

It's definitely worth a visit .. been over this evening for food, and the food was stunning We both had off the specials board. I have the veal in breadcrumbs and pasta. My husband had veal with chips . And I have to say we were not disappointed .. It's so nice to be able to try something different, and it's on my doorstep, but even if it wasn't, I'd definitely travel .. this is my second visit in a few weeks, and both times, I've thoroughly enjoyed the food. The first visit was the lasagne .. there were 11 of us the first visit, and everyone enjoyed their food

Had a lovely meal here tonight, after looking around for somewhere different to dine at, glad we made this decision, food was excellent, and attention to presentation also. This is a lovely homely pub. We always feel welcome with our children here. The atmosphere is always warm and the service is great. Food is very good and well priced. The owners have done a brilliant job at maintaining a traditional pub vibe that keeps us coming back. Dogs are welcome which is so nice to see.

Great pub, always a great atmosphere & fantastic staff who make onus feel really welcome! We were here earlier & there a bunch of girls who got asked for ID & took offence but the bar staff were polite & only doing thier job! As shown in the bar area anyone who looks under 25’s need ID. The ‘blonde’ lady who’s been complained about was polite & only doing her job!

Blonde manager is unbelievably rude! me and my 3 friends who are all 22/23 years old were accused of paying £35 for fake ID when showing our drivers licenses, we offered to show bank cards etc but were denied drinks and told to “cut the attitude” despite being polite through the whole experience! her attitude stinks and she was very patronising. she has even lied to the owner when we complained about her, saying that only one of us had ID which is not true! rude staff and respond to complaints by lying 👍 My family regularly come here in large groups for drinks and food, we will not be bringing business to this pub again as this is not the first time we’ve had a bad experience with this particular member of staff!

Just had a great meal, spoiled by some young girls without ID trying to get served, blaming the blond lady (the landlady) for being rude for just doing her job……..if you want to get served prove your age

What a lovely local to have and be proud of. Hannah and Richard are always so welcoming. They work extremely hard and employ the most polite, hard working professional bar and kitchen staff The people who come here are friendly and always up for a chat and a laugh, including their 4 legged friends!!! I've spent many a night and afternoon here, the cozy fire creates a lovely atmosphere. I can't recommend calling in enough, dogs welcome which is massive for us. I celebrated Christmas at The George last night and couldn’t fault a thing! There were 17 of us altogether and we ordered from the Festive Menu. The food was really good, the portion sizes were more than enough and despite the size of the table, the service was great and all the food came out together. All the staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Thank you for a lovely evening!!

First time here in years...outside it looked like it was in process of being demolished but they are actually remodelling and adding b and b rooms. First impressions not too good and its definitely dated. Went for a christmas lunch ..2 courses 18.99. Christmas music on and a few people obviously having a works lunch. The service was great, the landlady very helpful and friendly , waiting staff great too. The food was very good and so much couldnt eat it all...turkey, but no ham ( shame) and all the usual...loads of veg you helped yourself to and lovely jugs of gravy. No mash tho which is just my fave. Dessert was also well portioned and the lemon merringe gorgous. All in all its a great meal and value for money in a lovely earthy pub. Staff very nice and nothing was too much. It needs tweaks..like nicer furnishings and decor..its outdated. But its also part of the charm. We enjoyed our meal a lot and the atmosphere was nostalgic. Theres a carvery that I bet is lovely.

Ended up here because my car broke down and what else do you do. Service was a bit slow, Menu was very pub classics, nothing to write home about. All round, perfectly fine basic food at a good price.

Visited George today with my wife for Sunday dinner. Lovely greeting from Manager Ritchard on arrival. Served at bar straight away and cracking pint it was. Shown to our table in restaurant by one of the lovely friendly staff and proceeded to counter for our carvery. Food looked great with lots of choice and must say was very enjoyable. Plenty of meat which was cooked perfectly and roasties were lovely and crispy. Big thank you to Chef. Also big thank you to all staff who i found to be very friendly and polite. Highly recommend and looking forward to our next visit.

Booked short notice as it was a hot day. Very pleased that the veg was fresh and delicious. The gravy was hot and very tasty. My granddaughter loved the food as did I. I wouldn't hesitate to go to the George again. It was a fantastic dinner. Also, the management and staff were amazing. Beats the Cardiff Sunday lunches any day! Held my daughters baby shower for around 50 people the hot buffet was absolutly beautiful 😍 everyone was so pleased the food was so tasty. The staff went above for us, especially the 2 young girls working thank you so much to you all Highly recommended 👌

What a fantastic find. Came in for a Sunday lunch and left absolutely full! It's really well cooked and delicious. The pub is very welcoming and friendly. There is a little story to tell about the stone wall opposite that goes over the bridge, but I'll leave that for you to discover as it's fun to see first hand. If you're in Mountain Ash or just passing through, you'll be sure of a very warm welcome at The George Inn.

Booked in for 17 people well in advance, they took a deposit and pre order on food which we expected, that was fine. We were the only people eating that evening, even with the pre orders they still messed up certain meals, one of the dishes came out 35 minutes after the others, then the jacket potato was frozen so we had to wait another hour afterwards for the meal to come back fresh (I know some people would refuse the second meal but she had to eat) Food was coming out in dribs and drabs nothing came out together. Desserts were ordered and we made sure everything was accounted for, even then they still didn't bring out one of the desserts, to be told "Oh what was it? I'll go get it now" We refused the dessert and asked for the bill. Absolutely shocking service I've got to say, yes they apologised but I don't feel this was adequate at all. We will not be returning any time soon, so drastic changes are needed! I have the food a 4* because even with the bad service to food was actually really nice.

I was in the area and looked up Sunday roast nearby and the George came up highly recommended so I rang to see if they allowed dogs yes great so when I got there they couldn't accommodate me a single person outside they were too busy even though it was buffet style not impressed

A repeat visit with family for Sunday lunch . The carvery is great value and the food is tasty , hearty and plentiful , we received a very warm friendly welcome as on previous visits. Held a 50th birthday party at this venue and the staff here were amazing!!! Excellent hospitality, welcoming and very friendly. Buffet was fresh and plentiful. The following day we went back for Sunday lunch. Again, received a friendly welcome, staff were attentive, food was fresh and tasty. Nice to have a local pub with good food and friendly faces. Will be visiting more

Staff were fantastic but no food after 3pm is not good for a local pub 'Inn'. Missing a trick not serving food till at least 9pm. Missed 7 food orders with us lot 🙈🤪

It's open again but for drinks only (and bar snacks). The range of drinks on tap is increasing. Lovely woman is in temporarily to run it while they find new licensees.

I had a family member work here. The man who owns the George is a vile man, spits in peoples food in a time where covid is rife. Asking under 18 year old girls working in the kitchen to serve drink. Asks these young girls to wear skirts “for the customers” in my opinion the place needs to be shut down. And the man needs to be looked into. I hear a lot of stories of fighting in this place. Me and all my mates avoid it cause the pints are terrible too

DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY IN THIS PLACE. If I could rate this place lower than one star I would. Where do I start? First things first, half the food is microwaved meals or reheated slop. The rumours of this place are bad enough but to hear the stories of the people who have worked there are absolutely disgusting and quite frankly disturbing. Not to mention the treatment of staff where hard working girls (and others) are being threatened with their jobs and pay by management. This place should be shut down immediately and this will be taken further.

Excellent funeral buffet, but the toilet facilities let it down badly.....

The staff are the only saving grace about this place unfortunately. The packet mash was so bland which follows the rest of the meal. Yorkshire and roasties undercooked. The rice pudding....oops cauliflower cheese was dreadful and I thought at least the gravy might add some flavour but didn't help. If hospitals did roast dinners this is the place. Shame as this place did a carvery and the food was amazing but this must have been 3 years ago. Will not be going back.

Went here for Sunday lumch with 4 adults and a young baby. They made sure we had a lovely corner table with ample space for the pushchair. The staff were all absolutely lovely and even down to small details like seeing we had a young baby sleeping the waitresses made sure to be extra quiet opening doors and laying up tables which we very appreciated they didn't have to do this but made us appreciate good service. The food was outstanding value for money 3 courses for £15 is ridiculous value for money especially when each course was delicious the roast beef melted in the mouth. All in all cannot understand how this place has had any bad reviews it was first class from us and I shall most certainly be returning. Thanks guys great staff great food great experience.

WOW 😲 listen up folks 👂 This was the beast roast I've ever had ....and I meant beast....as well as best!!!!! What a plate full....the 10 hour slow roast beef was 10mm thick ...... absolutely fell apart and I had about 4 slabs of it. WOW!! Sitting on a bed of the smoothest mash Ever.... surrounded with cheesy califlower, carrots, peas, parsnips, cabbage, Yorkshire plus stuffing and roasted potatoes with gravey boat added for a top up if needed........you ain't getting any better than this.......ALSO ...the staff were polite and asked if you needed anything more, whilst the management made you feel welcome and at home.....my wife and I are on holiday here and we went here on the back of other reviews.... would recommend to anyone in the area or just passing through to pop in for drinks or a really nice hearty meal.... Don't be fooled into thinking it's a small established....very spacious with added side bar and rear restaurant area. ... Thanks for the hospitality and we will see you again for sure... I had the lasagne and there was no meat in it. It was just layers of pasta with white sauce, sitting in a soup of tomato sauce. I told the waitress and she couldn't have cared less. Will never be returning here!

We visited The George Inn last Saturday 30th October with family. The food was delicious, generous portion sizes and good value for money. The staff were all very friendly, lovely relaxing atmosphere, definitely worth a visit. We will be returning!!

This is my review of the George in Mountain Ash aberdare which myself and my partner attended today. roast beef dinner, comprising of beef Yorkshire pudding and a selection of vegetables. was appalled and disgusted and shocked to find that the mash potato was instant mash from a packet also roast potatoes were under cooked bland painful to consume. cabbage was basically raw. cauliflower cheese shockingly resembled a bowl of rice pudding. Will not visit again.

A ramblers paradise! Located right on the Taff Trail this is a great place to meet up and start your walk or to finish up at the end of the day for a drink with a beautiful meal. There so much to see Whether you socialising with friends or family, this is a great family friendly pub and doggos are welcomed too. Staff are amazing and always greet you with a smile. A great selection of drinks are on hand and they serve arguably the best pint in Mountain Ash. The food here is absolutely outstanding. The last meal I had was the steak with a side of garlic mushrooms which was mouth watering'ly good. My partner had the sizzling chicken slouvlaki, the chicken was marinating to perfection and was cooked beautifully. The satisfaction of the sizzling plate can't be beat. Highly recommended 👌 a must try!

The most unwanting place to go. No welcome and no service

Food was fine. Was told at 9pm that last orders for drinks in the bar was 9.45pm. Took 15 minutes to pay my food bill as there Internet would not work. Had to pay by Internet banking off my phone in end. £90 for food. Then was told at 9.40pm that they was not serving no more for drinks. New owners are a joke. Was a regular place for my family for meals and drinks but will never use this pub again after tonight how we were treated. Shame really as last owners were brilliant .

Thankyou so much to the management and staff at The George. As a result of a competition we were lucky enough to be given two free meals and complimentary drinks. The food was exceptional and we were made to feel very welcome by the waitress. Initially we were a little apprehensive about eating out during the current climate, however, it was refreshing to see several hand sanitising stations in entry and throughout the pub together with a one way entry/exit system. Highly recommend the steak and the Badboy Burger for those with a large appetite. Meals were brought to us really quickly and the staff were on hand if we required drinks or any further service. Lovely place, great atmosphere and would highly recommend. Thanks all and see you again soon.
