Food was fine. Was told at 9pm that last orders for drinks in the bar was 9.45pm. Took 15 minutes to pay my food bill as there Internet would not work. Had to pay by Internet banking off my phone in end. £90 for food. Then was told at 9.40pm that they was not serving no more for drinks. New owners are a joke. Was a regular place for my family for meals and drinks but will never use this pub again after tonight how we were treated. Shame really as last owners were brilliant .

Thankyou so much to the management and staff at The George. As a result of a competition we were lucky enough to be given two free meals and complimentary drinks. The food was exceptional and we were made to feel very welcome by the waitress. Initially we were a little apprehensive about eating out during the current climate, however, it was refreshing to see several hand sanitising stations in entry and throughout the pub together with a one way entry/exit system. Highly recommend the steak and the Badboy Burger for those with a large appetite. Meals were brought to us really quickly and the staff were on hand if we required drinks or any further service. Lovely place, great atmosphere and would highly recommend. Thanks all and see you again soon.

My friend and I were the only 2 people in the restaurant on a quiet Saturday lunch time. The food took 40 minutes to make, then the waitress brought me the wrong dish and didn't offer to bring any condiments. If the food wasn't so tasty, I would have rated this a one. I'll come back for the carvery where i can help myself in the future as the waitress wasn't very friendly and was a bit useless.

We held our wedding party here on 6th Dec for a small number of guests. With only 3 weeks until the wedding staff at The George pulled out all the stops and really took excellent care of everything from start to finish. They were all so accommodating, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was absolutely outstanding and that's an understatement. The room was beautiful and plenty of space for everyone. Kirsty, Leanne and all the girls, bar staff, waitresses and chef I can't thank you enough for your warm welcome and friendliness. Even Santa and his elf paid a visit. Beautiful restaurant, food and staff A**** from Mr and Mrs Herbert xxx

Whenever I visit my elderly parents in South Wales,we make a point of going, at least once, to the George for their delicious carvery lunch. My dad is 90 years old, eats very little and of late picky about what he’ll eat. He is also disabled, a condition the George accommodates amply for with wheelchair access and a ground level section of the restaurant. My mum also likes to choose what and how much to eat. Myself I’ll try anything once and if I like it,will eat as much as is comfortable. The George operates a carvery at lunchtime with a choice of any two meats from 4 on offer. There is a wide choice of roast and steamed vegetables,as well as a soup of the day which you help yourself to.My favourite is their roast parsnips. If you still feel hungry there is a dessert menu which varies, but you can usually get a gateau or apple tart type of pudding with cream, ice cream or custard. Overall then, a traditional carvery with generous portions of delicious food, backed up by drinks served by very cheerful staff enthusiastic in their willingness to help and serve.

Turning up after a four-hour drive on a Tuesday evening for a reunion with school-friends and being blankly told, 'We're not open,' was bad enough. But when I explained some of us hadn't seen each other for 45 years, the reply was, 'You'd better get texting, then.' Where else do you find a PUB that doesn't open because they have no prior food bookings? And with such attitude. Not even an apology or any sense of understanding. So we went instead to The Napiers, where the welcome was wonderfully warm, the beer good, and spent £100 there instead. Not prepared to get out of bed for work as a publican supposedly serving the community? Shame on you, George.

Lovely & clean pub with spacious dining area. Huge garlic mushroom starter & tasty pate. Great steak/home made chips & delicious light flaky sea bass with spring onion mash plus a few other neat sides such as home made onion rings. Service a tad slow maybe for what was a quiet night. All in all a really delicious meal & i'd like to return for a try of something else on the menu for sure. Toilets were clean but that trough urinal was rather rusty. Only guinness & worthington on tap sadly but they were waiting for Bass to arrive. 2 starters, 2 mains with sides 2 drinks & 1 dessert for £54 very good vfm i thought.

Visited the George for the third time this weekend, both times previous were very good. on arrival we were told that they were running behind in the kitchen as they were so busy and that a number of items on the menu were out of stock. We waited over half hour for somebody to take our order and to then be told 10 minutes later that what had ordered was out of stock, this was not the staff's fault as the two women who were serving were both lovely and clearly rushed off their feet. The menu stated that the burger came with chicken wings... there was only one chicken wing with the burger. The burger also included herbs throughout which was not stated on the menu which for myself and others who ordered ruined the meal. for desert i ordered pancakes which when were served were clearly still half frozen. all in all the whole experience was poor and i won't be returning.

This was my second visit to The George and unfortunately I didn't enjoy my visit as much this time. The staff always give a warm welcome, that hasn't changed. The waitresses are friendly and efficient. Maybe I just chose the wrong dish off the lunch menu; fish and chips. The meal was served in a metal 'deep fryer basket' perched on a wooden board, with the garden peas in a small jug. Bizarre! It was all very difficult to eat as the fork kept get getting stuck in the wire of the basket and the tall sides of the container made getting any food out in one piece almost impossible! The food was very greasy and had a strange but oddly bland taste. My companions had the carvery meal which they were happy with. The restaurant was busy, which is great to see, but smelled of old fat and overcooked food. Didn't stay for dessert, too hot and smelly, couldn't wait to get out in the fresh air. Apparently there is a new menu coming soon so will give The George one more try.

Myself and my husband visited The George as been recommended to us. We visited today for lunch. I was really dissapointed. We ordered from the day menu and I thought chicken salad would be nice. It came and was not edible. The salad had a brown tinge and was really basic looking. I asked before ordering if it came with a dressing and the waitress asked the chef who seemed a bit stressed. I was told honey and mustard, it came late after salad brought as forgotten and it was a little Jug of oil? With a few grains at the bottom, I tried to mix together but it didn't mix. It was just oil. I asked if it was right to the waitress who asked the angry chef again and then she came back with it in a tomatoe sauce encrusted bowl but it was still oil. A bit shocked at shoddy food. I really would not recommend this place to anyone.

Such weird opening hours. We called here last Thursday afternoon,5th may 2016. Its was a beautiful sunny day and 3pm in the afternoon. As we walked in the front door, other customers were being told to leave as the pub was closing. I would have expected the place to be full on such a lovely da, with seating outside for customers to enjoy the weather. How the pub expects to make money is beyond me, you should never turf out paying customers in the middle of the day. No wonder Mountain Ash traders are making such loses. Local people are leaving the town to find more hospitable places to eat and drink. Bad form The George !!!!!!

Went here Wednesday night for my sons birthday! Starters were nice! Main course was terrible. I had a 'fillet' steak which I had asked to be cooked medium. It was dry and smaller than a burger, way over cooked for £19.95! Chips were awful, onion rings soggy. A chicken curry which was £13, chicken slimy and there was about an inch of curry in the pot! There were 7 of us and no one enjoyed their meal! We did complain and were given free desserts! Apparently, their usual chef was not cooking our food? I would much rather be told sorry they were really busy than be made feel so small and not wanted somewhere. He managed to 'squeeze' us in somwhere but it felt like so much effort for him. Meanwhile he was speaking to the staff like dirt. I do not know if this man was a manager, he did look like one. If so he should change his attitude. Some time since our last visits which, in fairness, we enjoyed. This evening's experience was, however, far from satisfactory. The portion of garlic chicken was very poor - if it had started as a breast it had been beaten flat and thin, perhaps to make it look larger! The top of the lasagne, served in a diish, was, quite literally awash with grease / oil which had to be poured off in an attempt to make it more palatable. However, the bottom of the dish below the lasagne was also saturated -absolutely appalling. A complaint to one of the waitresses resulted in her returning with a message from the kitchen -"That is how it is supposed to be. it has been made with butter and not oil!" So much for customer service! Furthermore, the chairs still leave much to be desired - lack of adequate padding / spring interiors make many totally inadequate height wise. We had to change ours! Tonight's offerings were overpriced rubbish. We will not be returning.

I had never been to this area and had never heard of this place before but the staff were so welcoming and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. First time we went to the George, it had only recently opened and was very impressed with both the menu and quality of the food. I had heard it gone down hill a little but we were prepared to give it another try to see for ourselves. The young waitress was very attentive to us and ensured our drinks order came soon after ordering. The menu looked at as if it had been reduced from our last visit (maybe I am wrong) but we all found something to order. The lamb shank was OK, although I am unsure how they manage to braise one so quickly?? Accompanying veg was plentiful and looked freshly cooked. The Cod and Chips and the barbecue spare ribs was very average in presentation and taste; with portion size trying to cover up for quality. The large portion of chips for two, was a disaster! Large chunky chips that had at best been blanched once in oil and then reheated under a grill or somewhere, other than a fryer. Greasy, not crisped just a soggy mess. It would have been easy to complain but only at the risk of the main part of the meal also being taken away and reheated under a grill. The place has a nice atmosphere but I think for us that is where it ends. Won't be going back I am afraid.

However, there are new managers, David and Rhys, who really pulled all the stops out for the guests. All the staff really made us feel so welcome & everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. Around half six we went in the restaurant for our meal. The waitress that served us was polite but cold, robotic, no warmth or smile. That said did her job well up until the point of asking if we wanted dessert, none of us did as we were so full, that was it she never came back!! Was a little surprised to see a food hygiene rating of just 2 in the window, well away from the door and only noticed because we happened to glance up at the window. The interior of the pub was very nice, we sat in the bar and it was very comfortable.

So much so we thought they'd undercharged us. Went for the Sunday carvery, masses of meat from the entertaining chef. Fresh veg, all hot and lovely. Good bottle of red wine from a very good choice. Staff very friendly and attentive. Pudding a must for an extra £, yep that's one pound. Tripadvisor asked if this is the best meal I've had in a restaurant, the answer is no as I've been to many excellent restaurants, but I would definitely go again and recommend to friends,

Had great expectations of this place heard good things from people over the Christmas period but when visited beginning of feb I was quite disappointed. The decor of the place is lovely and inviting. The staff were also quite accommodating but was let down by the food quality. It was pub grub at gormet prices. We were 2 adults and 2 children I would say it was brewsters standard local people will know what I mean. It was edible but I expected it to be better.

We went as a part of 12 on a Friday evening and had pre booked our meals. The bar area is warm and cosy and reasonable priced drinks. The restaurant is spacious and the food is amazing. Home made chips and desserts to die for! Everyone enjoyed their food and we will definitely be returning soon.

My friends and i recently went for a meal at The George as I have had lovely reviews from family, regarding the food. As The George is local we decided to give it a try. Lets start with the food, I ordered ribs and fillet medallions and i have never tasted anything like it. The food was fantastic and being able to see the chef's at work in the open kitchen is an excellent idea. We were served by a lovely young man named James who took our order promptly and made sure we had drink refils regularly. So far so good right!!!!

Visited the George as a post Christmas meal for about 40 people mid week. Limited choice as it was the Christmas menu and high numbers. First impressions were good with nicely laid out tables.

Three sisters, two brothers, two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law looking to celebrate a birthday. All wanted something different and all knew where they did not want to go. Muggings was left to arrange and chose this place and it was a resounding success. Everyone enjoyed their meals, too many to detail here, and clean plates were the order of the day. The staff were brilliant, efficient but not pushy and the place itself is very tastefully decorated. We 8 thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be returning.

The menu is pub grub and not all that nice, was recommended by friends so was looking forward to a great evening,.... very disappointing I must say. We waited 25 minutes before anyone took our drinks order even though the waitresses were just standing around, when our wine did turn up the waitress just plonked the bottle on the table and walked off, omg.....the best thing about this place is the decor and that where it stops...no we will not be back!

I have been to The George a few times over the past few months for a Carvery. I went with a group of friends last saturday. Every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had the spare ribs, my mates had the boozy beef, salmon and steak and ale pie. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone so easy. Would also recommend the desserts. Friendly atmosphere and staff. Will be going back soon.

Went in september. Had a lovely meal. Plenty of choice, was sceptical beforehand as heard prices were quite high. Although was really pleased with our meals, gammon/ burgers/chicken pie. Portion sizes good. Never had desserts. Although they look quite small. Would definitely go again. Don't listen to bad reviews, you need to go yourself and if you're not happy give them the chance to correct things, before you slate them on TripAdvisor tgat is!

A few people recommended this place to me so I was looking forward to trying it. The menu is fairly uninspiring but I ordered with an open mind - went for a sirloin steak on recommendation. The meat was not of a good quality and was cooked and prepared with no love or imagination whatsoever. It was under-seasoned, not properly seared and was frankly tough. I managed about a quarter of it and then gave up. When you pay £16.95 for a main course, as I did for my steak, I think it's reasonable to expect it to be of a decent quality. My wife's burger was over-seasoned with dried oregano. Not a good flavour. The chips were nice, but that was about it.

Me and my partner popped into the George on the way home from cardiff, we only went for cake and a drink, we walked in and waited by the bar for 5 minutes until someone came out to see us, we asked were shall we sit? The waitress said you can sit in the overlfow part of the pub, so we sat down, and waited! And waited! We waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order, after another 10 minutes the waitress came over and said the dessert my partner wanted was still frozen, and asked her for a different one, at same time we asked for the drinks, the waitress replied we will bring drinks out with the dessert, so after another 10 minutes we finally had our dessert and drinks, the staff were standing by the bar laughing and talking all the time we were there, terrible customer service.

Well just had our first and last meal at your venue, have some hype from friends decided to give it a go. You sat us by what looked like exit doors with a almighty draught coming through good start!!. Then you messed up the order for the starters. Your waitress tipped cola in my peppercorn sauce. So for the price we paid and the service we got we were really disappointed and will not be returned again £81.70 not worth it and will not recommend.

Only recently re-opened after a major refurbishment, this pub/restaurant was originally the Cresselly Arms. Went for lunch with two friends and was immediately impressed by the decor and set-up. You have the choice of a carvery at £5.95 per head, or select from a large and varied menu, The food was beautifully cooked, and the waitress took your order for food and drinks from your table. (No queuing at the bar!), Very helpful and pleasant staff , and they don't rush you, once having taken your order,if you've chosen the carvery, tell you to " Go and select your meal when you'r ready". Lovely cup of coffee served in the pleasant bar afterwards, Definitely on the "must visit again soon" list.
