I had a fantastic time at The George! The staff is incredibly friendly and charismatic, making every visit enjoyable. The atmosphere is lively, especially on Fridays with live music and sometimes a DJ. There’s also a cozy garden area in front with heaters, perfect for winter. The food is great – the Sunday roast, in particular, is a must-try. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a welcoming pub experience!

We had such a delicious meal and our server, Abi, was helpful and patient, even with a table that included five children! We will definitely be returning!

Popped in last night while on stag doo as used to be the place to go yrs ago. Just found it all a bit pretentious in there. There was a live singer. But still no real atmosphere. And beers as always very expensive in there. Overall a bit dissapointed. Biggest thing to mention was the lady bouncer on the door. Pure attitude. No hello, or welcome just gave everyone a funny look as she did with everyone else. Made everyone feel uneasy. She needs training on politeness when people come in and leave. Rather than just stand staring at everyone. All in all just not great experience at all compared to other places we went

Had a fab lunch with amazing Tommy margaritas made by the fabulous Maddie who was super friendly and more than accommodating- she helped us relax and have a fab lunch with a chilled vibe!

It’s not often I get a decent old fashioned in Harpenden, but Dom made a great one here. He even went out of his way to find me fresh orange peel - thank you! I revisited the George on Saturday night with some friends and I was expecting to receive another great Old Fashioned from Dom, but unfortunately Dom wasn't working, no fresh oranges could be found and although Old Fashioned was on the menu, it wasn't available how it should be made. I do enjoy the Pineapple Mezcalita they serve here, but it definitely doesn't beat Dom's Old Fashioned, when access to the necessary and very basic ingredients is possible

Very disappointing. Booked a table in the restaurant but were seated in the bar due to an event in the restaurant which we weren’t told about. So noisy due to the event, we literally could barely hear each other and struggled to get our order across to the server due to the high level of noise. Service was hurried, as if we were in the way and the food was ok, not great , some elements of dishes barely warm. I’ve been here many times with friends/family but honestly, not sure if I’ll come back again.

Awesome food and helpful and responsive service from Jess. It was a bit cold in the restaurant and it would have been better had they switched on the heating. Everything else was great.

Food was good. They ran out of steak frites by 11am. Other diners in my group had their pouched eggs over cooked.

We came for family dinner. There was 4 and a little one who is two and a half. As you can imagine going to dinner can be stressful. Our waitress went above and beyond. Abi our waitress/server offered to give table service even though it wasn’t the time that table service was offered. She was so friendly and engaging to our little family member. We had a brilliant experience, also the food came out quickly & really flavourful. We ordered 2 pizzas which did not disappoint 5/5. Abi thank you for a great experience, you have restored our faith in great service does exists. Thank you again

We had a fabulous meal at The George. We were visiting family and decided to have Sunday lunch. The restaurant was busy and there were some big tables, but the service was excellent considering. Our drinks and then food arrived in a timely manner. I decided to have the cod and chips, my wife had the Chicken Milanese, which she said was delicious. My son and his partner both had pizzas, which were well covered full with ingredients. For dessert my wife and I shared crumble and custard. We look forward to our next visit.

We dined at the George 29th of August for an evening meal there was six of us, the meal was so disappointing, four of us had the Chicken Milanese it was supposed to be with salad and fry’s, the chicken was dry and looked burnt, the salad consisted of a couple of pieces of lettuce and two small pieces of sun dried tomatoes, i have never seen anything like it, we also ordered a dessert the ice cream with flapjacks, when that came it was one spoonful of ice cream and two tiny pieces of biscuits not a lot of thought had gone into that desert, and at £6.50 it was well over priced, the bill came to £136.00. Very expensive meal and very dissatisfied customers.

This is a pub with no Malibu daughters food was served mine was 40minutes later cold chicken burnt fries and staff that were not experienced very dissatisfied

It was disappointing to order a Chef’s speciality to be in the position to reject the dish: Caponata Rigatoni; strong flavours as capers and olive completely lost in a bland dish. However, what really made our experience worst was the customer service; a glass of lemonade was spilled on the table, there was a quick reaction to help but as soon as we asked for a better job, literally, a roll of blue tissue was left on the table for us to complete the cleaning up, quite disrespectful!

Food was very tasty and service was good. Have visited a number of times and food has always been nice. Menu is fairly expensive but portions are generous and all tastes freshly cooked - pizzas are especially good. Based on previous visits, during busy times service can be a bit slow but nice atmosphere, would recommend a visit!

Came here to enjoy the pub garden now the sun is finally out! Great place to sit outside and chill. Looking forward to working my way through the new drinks menu!

Atmosphere is great but thats it, weve been coming here for over 3 years now and every time the quality of the food is just getting worse and worse and cant justify the price anymore. I mean they charge 7.5£ for half a cup of tiramisu which taste absolute gross, its nothing like tiramisu. The basic sainsburys tiramisu which is 2£ for 2 is 10x better. On the top of that, I ordered a capuccino together with my tiramisu and I had to wait 15 minutes for a coffe😅 for this price this place is a joke just ripping off customers. The lady behind the bar really nice helpful and doing her best but its just not enough

Great transformation outside the front. Hand dryer still not working 2 years on 🤣. Food was nice, nothing special. Thank god for HOLLY! Lovely waitress.. under staffed, both waitresses smashing it, keeping the place afloat. Hard workers, run off their feet and still smiling 👏.

Met some friends here for brunch and it was very enjoyable. We were served by the most lovely young man...Ethan L. He was very attentive without being intrusive and didn't rush us. The surroundings are. lovely and we will be back

I came here with some family members and had such a great experience! the restaurant was so clean and the atmosphere was amazing! The food was absolutely and for such a fantastic price, I couldn't recommend it enough! I was served by Holly who had the most amazing customer service and was quick to answer any of my queries! She worked extremely hard and served numerous tables at once which is certainly a skill at such a fast paced environment like this restaurant so definitely deserves some praise! My family member were visiting from Ireland and we bought him here to experience the delightful ambiance of a lovely town and I can definitely say that The George left him enthralled with everything the restaurant had to offer! For excellent prices, scrumptious food and a superb waitress like Holly I would definitely recommend coming here. I can definitely see this place becoming a regular spot for me and my family! 💗

Sunday Roast was disappointing. I had the triple, beef,chicken and pork belly. Chicken was not pleasant, the pork mainly fat, however the beef was reasonable. I have eaten here on several occasions, most better than this Sunday, 7th April 2024. Service was good.

I’m a regular in TGH, always love it but tonight was extra super with Niamh at our table. What.a.legend Protect her at all costs. And please give her overtime for tonight (☺️) as she was taking care of us so well it took her over her shift end time Be more Niamh!!!!

I have been to a lot of restaurants in my time and I like to give a fair honest review when I'm asked to. I found the George in harpenden to be a terrible place to eat. The service was extremely poor , I'm not sure what it was but we were left for 20 minuites just to get a drink. I had a steak it was so full of gristle/ fat nearly impossible to eat . They seem OK at fish and chips but don't have the steak. They are very expensive For such poor service and food. I have never given such a poor review of a restaurant. They even had the cheek to try and scam us at the end with something called a wet charge .I have never heard of this before. I did ask the manager what it was . He said it was a drinks thing. I felt like the restaurant was trying to scam me. If you like being ripped off and paying through the nose for poor service. Then this is the restaurant for you.

We had a great evening and the atmosphere was very nice, the food and drink tasted great and we received excellent service from Sophie G. We will definitely come back soon.

I went for breakfast with my family and can honestly say I have never been served such an outrageous meal in a restaurant. The only way I can describe the ‘scrambled egg’ was that it was a mashed up boiled egg that had been cooked the day before. The sausage was cold and raw in the middle, the mushroom so dehydrated you couldn’t get a knife through it and the hash brown was still a raw potato. I’m still utterly shocked that a kitchen could turn out such an awful meal. The staff and service however was great.

Lovely experience. Had a really nice young boy called Ethan who served us, was very attentive and quick to offer help. Drinks and food came out quickly. Food was very average but service made up for the food. Will be returning back for a pleasant service.
