The General Sir Redvers Buller in Mid Devon

Me and my family popped in for a meal, in all honesty the food wasn't bad and throughly championed the microwave! How ever my issue is with the staff, should the manager and barmaid me bad mouthing other employees in the bar area.... I think not.... The topic of their conversation was a data breach and the manager clearly needs more training to understand a more competent position. The bar maid/ waitress dumped our plates in front of us, grunted and went back to gossip no doubt, it felt like a cross between an episode of coronation Street and the Adams family. Food was okay but a little to unprofessional and toxic for my taste buds. Customers come in to unwind not to listen to toxic talk. To any of you training in hospitality, pop in and catch the "hospitality for dummies show" I guarantee it will be learning experience either way.

Had food from the breakfast menu - bacon virtually raw! Scrambled egg the same! Dumped in front of us - with a spare plate for my granddaughter. Couldn’t find a member of staff, to address the issues. Not good - I shall not be returning!

Well. Where to begin. At the bottom of a beautiful spiral staircase? Some people have said no. I say yes. With a capital yes. And a big wink. Apart from that. Are you feeling good ain't you? Fancy a pint? No? I didn't want too. The food here is that good I go alone. I have friends but don't hear from them that often. The pizza menu is my new family. Ice cream? Too cold. Not for us. We can sit down and have a chat with a reasonablly priced bottle of blue nun. I think I am done here. We can catch up soon.

I would like to know why a week ago I came in for lunch with my son we both ordered food/drinks & I was not asked if he was old enough or even ID asked for then a week later this awful experience below happens. Absolutely disgusted & disgusting service my son & his managers,.plus colleagues were treated this evening Firstly I am a licencee & I know the rules of 16/17 Yr olds having a meal with adults present, this is allowed is all places that serve alcohol... The attitude by all 3 managers who kept approaching their table to question everyone including the over 30's. Secondly my son & his colleagues all showed their ID's to a waitress who was only 17 (should not be allowed as she's wasn't qualified to question) 5 minutes later another person questioned (a manager) if this so called manager had listened when the head of this party explained everyone was eating then a 3rd or 4th return to check again should of not been required. You humiliated this party enough by constantly watching them on CCTV (supposed to be a night out not an episode of Big Brother I'm surprised Davina Mccall didn't turn up would you ID her as well) The final straw was the manager came over & said you have 2 options you either leave now & nothing else will be said or I give a refund for the cider that wasn't drank (which another member of group could of drank) The refund was never given. Instead of the threats to call the police& looking at previous reviews this weatherspoons has disgusting customer service & the managers have no managerial skills at all. Your higher managers need to relook at the licensing laws which are updated yearly & a refresher course taken by all. This can be done by looking at DCC website where all the information is or even look on BII (Britsh Institue of inkeepers) if you were professional enough, you would know all of this Lose the threats & know what your talking about which you clearly don't

Me and my mates go here all the time and we are 16 and tonight all of a sudden they don’t allow us to come in when last time we showed our TOTUM card they allowed us and now they say u have 5 minutes or imma call the police they were so rude today normally it’s a good time but guess not today

We visited when the restaurant was less than a third capacity. Waited 20 minutes for drinks only for 2 out of 4 to be not what was ordered. A further 40 minutes for 4 meals, only 3 of which were brought to the table - a further 15 minutes for 4th meal. Steak was inedible, very gristly, gammon barely cooked and fried egg not cooked. Appalling food, even worse service. No point in complaining, staff weren't interested.

Not very well organised given the COVID restrictions that are in place in all other places. Took about 25 minutes for someone to take a drinks order & then a further 30 for someone to take food. Staff didn’t really seem to know what they were doing. Wrong order turned up to the table to begin with. Lemonade was flat, and tasted dirty - either the ice maker, glasses or taps need a deep clean. The steak ordered was tough as boots & not cooked as requested. One person had a meal they didn’t order. And was inedible. The garlic bread was basically just oil & was undercooked raw dough. We had family visiting who wanted somewhere nearby to eat after a busy day. We would never normally go to a spoons, and after this the two locals won’t be back.

Good large breakfast served within 5 minutes with a smile Nice thick bacon and two eggs with extra toast beans And a sausage

visted back in novembre and had to wait a long time for ham egg and chips tasted nice and inexpensive but long wait

Went in for a burger and a beer with my boyfriend The burger and fries were very nice sadly one of the barmen thought it was funny to tell a Homophobic joke which we didn’t. Appreciate shame as the food was good won’t. Put us off returning as we enjoyed the food and don’t. Suffer fools Can’t wait for it to open again.

I came to here with a disabled man with Down’s syndrome....I am an enabler , and this was his day for lunch .I understand because of the pandemic things have to change , but trying to download an app so I could order food, I found very difficult.I asked a staff member , who seemed very annoyed, and told me what to do , then turned his back on me....I tried to do what he told me to do, but couldn’t ...in the end,, he said he would take my order at the table...but I must download the App.....I feel very disappointed with this experience , and probably won’t be returning ...

Served beer from dirty taps that tasted of cleaner and flat cider. Despite a complaint I was told to lump it. Vile customers who left back door open whilst they smoked, leaving us freezing cold and stinking of fags. I asked them to close the door and they refused, telling me that it had to be left open. Nasty people, nasty staff, nasty beer. I won't be going there ever again even though we are local.

It is a really nice place to enjoy a evening night out, they have all sorts of different food and drinks, the atmosphere is nice and I have to mention that they have a nice summer garden. Well worth a visit!

Every time I order BBQ Pork Ribs, I am extremely satisfied. However this visit I was not. The ribs were as dry as a desert, and the new menu change has taken the coleslaw off of this meal. I personally loved the coleslaw on the side, but I am left gutted that it’s gone. I loved dipping my chips into the coleslaw. I think that more sauce on the ribs and coleslaw on the side should be served with this meal. The menu change obviously means, less on your plate for more money. Highly disappointed.

It's an ok place to meet with ok food. Nothing special. Tables are not cleared very quick and it is in need of a refurb as the furniture is tatty and some is dirty

As usual, breakfast was amazing value for money. full breakfast for husband & traditional for me. you cannot beat the value for money. Bar staff and server were very friendly. Love the free coffee refills!

Group of 14 of us were in the area for a Wedding the next day and so found this "spoons" for a drink the night before and was all good - it's a Wetherspoons so not expecting high quality but in fact it was all OK - friendly staff and hooked up with a local for chat as well :-)

Having eaten here 6 times when working and visiting the area ,I have found the food can good one night and terrible the next night , as with all weatherspoon pubs the beer can be a bit flat but at the price you just accept it !!!. would visit again!

Went there for a meal with family .The manager Brett was extremely off hand. Didnt smile and looked like he couldnt wait to finish serving me. Its such a shame because the rest of the staff are friendly and smiley. Just a shame the manager lets everyone else down. He needs to work on his customer service skills

Just popped in for quick pint service slow and uncaring beer served flat and warmer than I like tables sticky and uncleared

Early Friday night out with some good friends for drinks & a birthday meal. We had ordered well before 6.30pm & despite being ‘Fish Friday’, they had sold out completely. We ordered various other things from the menu & I was so disappointed that my chicken burger was not only cold, it was chilled! Since when do you get served a cold burger with your hot chips?!? And all the others were the same. Waited a long time for food 25-30 mins, so we’re so hungry when we got it, we ate it anyways. Won’t be back for food here again.

Went for lunch, good atmosphere.Ordered the food, had to wait twenty minutes for it to arrive.I had the mixed grill, all nice except for the steak, which was tough to cut, and very red inside.When I ordered it no one asked how I wanted my steak cooked.All in all ok, but could do better.

set in a former liberal club it was crowded when the two of us went in at lunchtime. we were able to find a table and were served quickly at the bar. we ordered the managers special of korma curry, nan bread and two poppadums at £3 .99 each.we were served about twelve minutes later by a young waitress who apologised for the slow arrival of the food. we told her no apology was necessary as the pub was so busy.the meal was delicious and you could see the staff were very attentive to all the customers.after lunch we explored crediton high stree which is full of independent shops including olivers, a super bakery. car parking cost £2 for up to ten hours or you can park in the street for free for up to 45 minutes.all in all a good lunch in a nice devon town

If you're visiting Crediton and need more than a coffee and are on a tight budget, than try the General Sir Redfers Buller in the High Street. It's a Wetherspoons and makes the best of an historic building. The menu is pure pub but inexpensive with deals including drinks ( alcohol and non-alcohol).We had fish and chips (small) - two meals just over £8. Beautifully cooked and a good size if you're not starving. Staff were helpful, friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere- mix of older people (Good place if you're on a pension), families and couples

i ordered a chicken and avocado salad. When it arrived I remembered having ordered the same on my last visit some time before and that it had been a mistake. Same thing again as the avocado was defrosted and tasted and looked horrible. Should have sent it back. Avocado should be fresh. Otherwise an acceptable cheap eating house.

A big choice of menu. Good offers. Plenty of room with friendly, helpful staff. One downside is the tall tables and chairs if the place is busy and the normal tables and chairs are full. It is difficult to get on the chairs when you are a child or 5' nothing. Service is quick even at busy times. Puddings are all 'too much of a muchness'. Where has the cheesecake gone?

Made a visit for drinks so friendly staff and comfy seats defo go again. Nice comfy chairs near a fire. And lots of high tables. Family friendly.

Often used by me when I have stayed in my caravan. A good selection of beers & food , in a convivial atmosphere .Many locals use this Pub , which is a good sign.

We were in Crediton for the day and came across this Weatherspoons. Decided to try it out. I had one of their burger deals and my partner had a vegetarian dish which I cannot remember what it was. Both very good quality. The burger had actually been cooked/fried in oil at the right temperature so it wasn't dripping with surface grease, the chips and onion rings very good quality also. The chips were particularly nice lovely and crisp on the outside and fluffy inside again cooked in fat at the right temperature. Overall a pleasant experience and we would go again. Just on slight criticism, some of the tables around us could have been a bit cleaner.

Went into servers bullet today for a quick bite to eat and me and the wife ordered 3 small bite dishes for a tennerto share.service was great and always a smile.food was really good and didn't have to wait very long at all..great food, great service.will definatley be going back again soon .

After waiting 40 minutes for Our food it was not to a high standard ,chips were barely warm ,the onion rings were inedible and the burgers were not an acceptable quality . Very disappointed!

We popped into this establishment for a drink and ended up staying for dinner as it was so pleasant. A beautiful building right in the heart of the main high street in Crediton, we were able to enjoy a very pleasant evening in the garden for supper and a couple of drinks.

I used the app to order my food and drink, service was very fast and I received my drink swiftly by a friendly staff member, shortly after my food arrived, very tasty, although very busy there was still a warm friendly atmosphere.

I am a regular customer . The staff are very efficient and polite.

Nightmare frozen to the core, after several dress rehearsal decided what to wear, oh dear it was so cold nobody in the group took there coats off.

Good service, decor looking a bit shabby in places but ok for a quick drink, hot or cold. Usual excellent value.

Came with some friends tonight, terrible customer service at till and very rude! Asked for receipt and got it shoved in our face! Four people and they keep bringing 3 sets of Cutlery for starters and main! What is wrong? There are 4 people here... Slamming plates on table, unacceptable! Yes it's busy but you cannot treat customers like this!

My daughter brought me here and treated me to a nice lunch. It was nice and quiet and we sat in the conservatory, food was served quickly and was piping hot. All in all a great place to pop in for a quick bite.

He estado allí muchas veces, tanto para beber y comer, y como he dicho anteriormente es un típico pub Wetherspoons. Con eso quiero decir que la cerveza es excelente, la comida es buena pero sencilla y la relación calidad-precio es muy buena.

A friend and I stopped at the General Sir Redvers Buller pub, a Wetherspoons, on Friday. My friend generally eats only vegetarian food, but will eat fish, and we both decided on the typical fish and chips, which, for a very reasonable price, also includes a drink. The service was quick, the food portions substantial and hot, and the fish very appetizing to look at as it had a very crispy batter. However, inside the fish filet was as dry as a bone. It was as if the fish had been pre-cooked and then thrown into the hot oil just before serving. We've had it before at other branches of the chain, but certainly won't go there again.

Family visit after a lovely long walk. We selected from the 2 for £7.99 menu and the food was served promptly, hot and with a smile. The pub and facilities were clean and it was great for the price charged.

Good accommodation clean and tidy. Food usual fare and variety of drinks . Tea was especially good. Ideal stop for quick lunch when on a shopping trip. No complaints staff attentive and pleasant.

I waited 15 mins for some toast that was cold. It tasted fine though and it is quite busy around 12 for lunch. Staff were a bit sarcastic with me which i found rude because i couldnt remember my table number. Other than that prices and food are good.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Cheap drinks and the same menu we either love or hate from wetherspoons. Good service and clean bar.

Went here on Sunday, ordered my food the same time as my Brother.. His food came.. We were waiting for ours for .. 27 minutes and twice going to the bar to ask for it and on the final time we asked for a refund, after watching 6 tables who ordered after me get their food first, our food appeared. No offer of a free drink or an apology for the 27 minute delay.. My 5 year old son asked the waitress when she came with our food why it took so long and she ignored him. My brother had already eaten his food in this time, and had to leave. Chips were over cooked. My partner had brunch and his eggs were over cooked. I had a chicken wrap, not two of the hardest things to cook or prepare don't know why we waited so long.

Firstly, breakfast for 5 people, all different, all well cooked, all arrived at the same time, very nice and cheap at £20 with free coffee. Secondly, evening meal massive selection, lovely food and a free pint or wine of soft drink, absolutely amazing value. Got very lively later on but had to try as many beers as possible and I came home with money. Fantastic venue, nice people, very good staff, excellent food and drinks.

We have visited several Wetherspoons in the local area, and this is without doubt one of the best pubs. The staff were friendly, the service was good and the food was fresh and hot. The interior of the pub has a fairy modern feel whilst retaining a very interesting, old style layout which has been kept from the previous owners. The atmosphere was good, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

One of the better Wethersppon pubs. Good atmosphere with typically a mixture of locals to the Crediton area and visitors to the town. Great value for money as usual and with plenty of space for larger groups.

Had a lunch and coffee here, nice meal, good polite service. It's a nice place with different areas in which to sit, also an outdoors area. Toilets good and clean although up a lot of stairs! Disabled toilet on ground floor.

Okay, you know it's a Wetherspoon's so you're not expecting a fine dining experience but a good value, half-decent meal. The Sir Redvers Buller in Crediton did far better than that for 15 of us who called in on our way back from a rugby match, without a reservation, late on a Sunday afternoon. Firstly, the decor and ambiance were much better than expected, there may have been televisions showing sports but, if there was, then they were unobtrusive and there was plenty of space for a quiet meal. The bar staff were friendly, efficient and helpful, not always the case when a large round is being ordered. The food was very good, we mostly opted for the large mixed grills and the surf and turf, so this may not have been too taxing for the kitchen but it was produced pretty quickly given the numbers. The portion sizes were good, the meat well-cooked (not dry as it so often can be) and generally very tasty, Certainly nobody had any complaints. Lots of reviews comment that the food and beer is cheap and seem to suggest therefore that the quality is bound to be poor. That was not our experience. There is no doubt that it was a very good value meal, a large mixed grill with a pint of Guinness, for example, was just over £ 11 which nobody could begrudge but it seemed to be achieved more by running an efficient operation than by compromising on quality. I would normally steer clear of a pub that was part of a national chain but I might now reconsider this position when I'm looking for a no-nonsense meal at a sensible price.

the foot was as good as you would expect from this chain but the service was very slow and the staff too busy talking to locals whom they obviously knew well to bother with checking the food was OK or take orders.

A truly delightful market town we came in here for the first time since 1973. This has a Georgian exterior, thus up a few steps, but inside it was quite attractive. We had a typical good value meal on Steak night. I went upstairs for the facilities and thought that the main carpet in the carpeted areas was showing signs of wear and tear - so this does need selective upgrading

It's a wetherspoons pub, but definitely one of the best. It's great for families and a central meeting point in the town, and it's very clean and well run.

As a meeting place this is great but the food is at times quite dire! Other times it can be ok but never great. Drinks are quite cheap though but with kids running around and screaming not good for a quite drink.

I visited this restaurant last week with my wife. I had chicken peri peri and my wife had ham egg and chips. This was just a last minute visit as our kitchen was out of action due to work being carried out on it. I know that the food is cheap there but never the less should be edible. My meal was cold, the sweet corn appeared to have been reheated several times and had a odd colouring. Sweet corn is in season at the moment and there is me excuse to serve such an item. The chicken was cold and could have been cooked for longer. My wife's chips were cold and not quite frankly very good. The premises need a revamp as it is looking very tired.

Not great for a wetherspoons in fact one of worst we been to, I had a Pepsi it was totally flat my husband said lager was not good either.

The building lacks the character of some Wetherspoons pubs. The beer range when we visited was uninspiring but the meals were accurate and served hot which not all Wetherspoons manage to achieve. We would not go out of our way to go there but for anyone who lives in Crediton, worth a visit.

Witherspoons is Witherspoons and I have eaten here a few times. It will never set the world on fire but at these prices I am not complaining.The food arrives quickly, is cheap in price and staff work hard to serve you quickly. I usually have simple scampi (curry is tasty enough but for me sometimes lacks) and often a quick pud! Never had any complaint.

Really excellent food served by the awesome Keith!!! Who was incredibly friendly, helpful & funny. We will recommend it to all our friends.

I have been a regular customer of The General Sir Redvers Buller Pub in Crediton since the day it opened. The current Manager Mr.Keith Huntshaw is very professional and he and his staff are very obliging and worthy of congratulations . The pub actively supports one of my charitable organsations . Sevice is great and a good atmosphere exists.

Ales poor, food poor, service poor, just another wetherspoons, or mcspoons as we call them, yes they're cheap, but you get what you pay for, why are so manys standards so low? as the place was well frequented, did they lose their taste buds? will not be visiting again, food was tasteless, the ale was like vinegar and the service was terrible.

All wetherspoons are the same menu and unfortunately the same cooking procedure, the microwave oven !The draw is the price and its always welcoming and relaxed here and kids very welcome.Ordered eggs benedick for brekkie. Was told they have no poached eggs, but could have a traditional breakfast instead. I mentioned that there are eggs in the traditional breakfast and i have just been told no eggs!. Was then told no poached eggs! At that point i was confused over cracking an egg in a frying pan or in boiling water, they either have eggs or not.Was then advised the poached eggs are pre-cooked before being transported to the restaurant.Thats Great fresh restaurant food for you !You learn something everyday, but will still return for my breakfast again soon.

I have always found the food good but you know what to expect at a Wetherspoons. I have always found the service to be good but know that when its busy some wait is expected.

Called in here with family for a Sunday dinner. Service food all excellent. Very good value for money with good selection of food

It is what it is, Wetherspoons, but it's a good local meeting place and the staff are friendly. Can get a bit raucous on the weekend, but only to be expected. Great place to take the kids for tea; the food is basic, but well-cooked and you can't fault the meal deals.

Meat unrecognisable by taste in the Sunday lunch. Positively the worst Sunday lunch ever, on a par with less reputable frozen dinners. Served by a surly member of staff who didn't care about the customers or know the meaning of customer service. Emailed JD Wetherspoons who failed to respond. So the lack of customer service starts at the top.

Went to the reverend buller for sunday food with about 14 friends, the manger clearly had an issue with so many people coming in & decided we would not be served. Considering we all went in & ordered food & drinks this was quite surprising. We may not have been the quietest group but nobody expects to be in a pub on a Sunday & not hear any noise. The manager was very rude & aggresive to our whole group & im disgusted by the way we were treated. Will not be coming here again.

Went for brekkie with a friend. Quick fast service. Food hot and and tasty. Defo be going again maybe on a regular basis

The service is very good. Keith and the team are very friendly. Excellent value for money. Good food every time and the drink prices are amazing Love going there. Very child friendly
