Good selection of food and drinks. Staff are always welcoming. Can recommend the milkshakes and freshly made sandwiches.

Great place for a quiet coffee, nice and relaxing atmosphere. Somewhere you can sit and zone out without it being noisy. Latte and flat whites very nice. Nice owners and staff.

Met here with friends on quite a few occasions service always friendly nice snacks and coffee good! Hot & cold snacks scones etc always fresh

Took toddler and 4 month old out for lunch. Very friendly, reasonably priced. Toddler had jacket potato, beans and cheese. Plenty of high chairs and he loved finding characters in the bathroom (Disney mural). Also some books for him to read. I had cheese, ham and red onion panini and a latte, both delicious. Felt very comfortable breastfeeding here. Will be back.

Very disappointed today. We hadn’t been here before but had seen an advertisement about being one of the best coffee shops and thought we would give it a try in our lunch break We ordered 2 cappucinos... 15 minutes later we were still waiting so we then asked for takeaway cups to which the man who was VERY slowly making them seemed frustrated... we then had to wait another 5 minutes for him to very very very slowly put them into takeaway cups. The coffee itself was not very nice and wasn’t boiling hot (although it took so long I am not surprised) We left very frustrated. Then one of us had a full cup which wasn’t very nice. And then one of us had HALF a cup!!! Ridiculous after we waited all that time. Couldn’t go back as we were already late going back to work where they took so long!! If you have a while and do not want a nice drink then go here. If you want a nice coffee in reasonable time then avoid.

Popped in for a coffee and will come back another time for lunch. Very friendly independent cafe in Wickford which does well to compete with lots of coffee shops in Wickford. I had an americano and my wife had a skinny cappuccino. Delivered to the table very quickly and served with a small biscuit. Good coffee, reasonable prices and excellent service. Large loo which is very clean and decorated with Disney wall art.

Located in a small shopping centre just of the High Street, the Gatehouse Coffee Shop is a classic example of a local cafe It's fine for hot drinks, sandwickes, cakes etc. We found the staff friendly and helpful. Wickford has a relatively new Costa, and it does no harm to have more than one coffee shop in the High Street.

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat and a coffee. You can either sit at a normal table and chairs or on one of their large sofa’s, the choice is yours. There are also tables outside in the warmer weather. There is a good selection of food at reasonable prices. The staff were nice, friendly and very helpful. I had a bakewell tart, which was a good size, and the coffee was nice too. My daughter had one of their milkshakes; they have all kinds. I don’t really know what one she had but it was blue and all gone within 10 minutes so it must have been nice. I would visit again.

Women of Wickford had an afternoon tea here. There were about 20+ we were allowed to move tables and chairs so we could be together. We took up most of the space Staff were good food and drinks fine. There is some outside seating. I did not know the cafe was there as rarely go down ladygate but worth a visit. Tea comes in a pot with jug of milk rather than a mug!

It was a hot day and I just fancied a milkshake... I nearly went to Costa on the high street but have become sick of paying nearly £4 or more for a single coffee and he smoothies/milkshakes probably similar... popped into The Gatehouse and they had a great selection of milkshakes and all served with cream and marshmallow sprinkles... perfect for kids and erm.. big kids! Will bring my youngest son here next time as he loves milkshakes and at £2.69 I think it's very good value! Pic below without the cream as dad is trying to be healthy! Friendly staff too!

First visit here.meet friends regularly trying different places for lunch and a chat.warmly greeted especially as we were slightly late for our reservation. Served quickly hot tea and coffee and a mix of sandwiches,delicious soft bread, scones, cream & Jam and a plate of small cakes.kept refilling drinks if needed.didnt feel rushed at all to eat up and leave(like some places).pleasant afternoon tea.

Chose our lunch, choice was varied and reasonably priced. Half an hour later NO lunch or drink and they didn't even seem to notice we were waiting! Even serving others around us. We approached staff member and after a bit of a fuss they approached the table saying they'd lost out order. They took it again and when it came it was wrong!! Shall not be going there again. Wasn't even offered our money back.

Went for a coffe and cake with a dear friend i don't manage to meet with very often. When we visited there were only 4 other people in the cafe. Two ladies were serving. Staff We were both very disappointed with the staff. They were not friendly. Had miserable faces. They did not attempt to engage with us at all. We irdered and waited and waited and waited! This was for a panini! We asked again wherevour order was and eventually they made them and bought them to us. Service Very slow. Very unhelpful. Miserable. Food We ended up having a panini with coffee then cake and coffee to follow. Panini was ok. Nothing special. Cake was ok. Recommend I always say you should make your own judgements but neither of us have visited again and because of other places now available in Wickford we feel we dont need to go again to see if it would be better the next time around!! Sorry Gatehouse - I do like to try and support local businesses!

Even when this café is fairly empty it takes quite a long time to receive your order. Food and drinks are lovely though. Clean, spacious cafe

We had done our shopping and was going back to the car, when we spotted the Gatehouse, we decided to just pop in for a drink but the cakes looked very nice and we could not resist tasting one and they were very good.

I came here for a slice of cake. Carrot cake was lovely. Lady that served me was very nice and friendly. Lovely tearoom, would definitely visit again

Met friends for a quick coffee and a catch up. Lovely friendly staff brought our drinks outside for us and didn't mind us moving all their chairs around so we could sit together x

this is about the worse reveiw i have written.had a breakfast.asked for bacon well done.hard as a wall.poach eggs could bounce.tomatos and beans cold.sasages cheapest they could find.toast i asked well done just burnt.and coffee was the cheapest rubbish ever.not friendly place at all.5 pounds 70pence.wont be going back there ever again.

I hold my crocheting club here on a Saturday and Monday and the staff are so friendly and there food is tasty. My favourite of there food is their waffles they are amazing.

Don't like negative reviews but been to Gatehouse twice and both times had a massively long wait for food.

This cafe is very friendly. The staff are fanastic. We have a lovely time in there crocheting on Monday and would recomend this cafe to everyone. I don't like to go any where else
