The Gate of India in West Lindsey

Uaually a go to for an Indian take away but last night meal has left us very dissapointed we ordered Pasanda which was bland and underwhelming. Pilau rice which was just plain boiled rice no seasoning. And poppadoms that were all broken. Not sure what went wrong as usually the food is amazing.

Had a takeaway tonight, 3 dishes. So disappointed very bland all 3 no taste in all 3.

Great service, very quiet atmosphere and clean place. The food was delicious and we got served very quickly. Reasonable prices and lovely coffee and chocolates ☺️☺️

We came in the first of January and my daughter said her birthday is in 7 days so the waiter gave my daughter a birthday card. The waiters are very nice! And funny. Also the food was delicious!

Heard the place was back to its old form! I heard right! Class food, friendly service with a touch of banter! Food was spot on, served fast and mega (just like the gate of old)! Nann bread phenomenal! I’ll be back!

Went last night for a meal with my husband for his birthday. The staff were so attentive and funny (especially Mia) and the food was fantastic. So tasty and quickly brought out. Nothing too much trouble for them and they made the night special for my husband. I recommend the chicken Karahi 👌👌👌👌

Lovely food, ordered a takeaway. Wasn’t sure what to expect as we’re from Leicester and are used to excellent curries. We were all very pleasantly surprised and very much enjoyed it. All four of us agreed one of the best curries we’ve had!

My two sons and I use this place about every 3 weeks as I work away, the guys make us feel so welcome and often advise us of what to order which may not be on the normal menu. Its a fantastic place and the food/ service is always 100% Cant wait to get back home again and spend another night there. Thanks to all the staff. See you soon. Chris, Jak and Harry

My wife and I visited the gate of India on Bank Holiday Monday. What an absolutely lovely restaurant. The staff couldn't be more accommodating down to the smallest detail. And the food was excellent. Absolutely 10 out of 10 if we could have scored 20 out of 10 . We would have. The next time we are in the vicinity we will be going again 🙏.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would.. it was our first time visiting The Gate of India and we will 100% be back. The hospitality, food and atmosphere were all absolutely incredible. Our family all agreed that it was the best curry we had ever had. Would highly recommend coming to this restaurant! 10/10

We was a family Party of 17 last minute booking on Sunday evening as everywhere closed, they made room for us at very short notice and it wasn't empty, all food arrived together and staff was always on hand, The food and atmosphere was great, very happy throughout only drawback was no parking and the food whilst enjoyable , most dishes seemed slightly over sweetened but the younger ones in group had no complaints, but I would advise to try the slightly spicier dishes as the mild dishes are a little sweet, all in all very satisfied and recommend.

Friendly, polite and welcoming staff, food was tasty and generous portions,reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend if you're ever in Market Rasen.

Well, a takeaway consisting of 4 meals, costing £62 was abysmal. Meat ammounts in all 4 dishes were very small . This is my second takeaway in 4 weeks, first one was very much the same as the first , poor portions . Really need to up your game Gate of India or you'll end up with zero customers

Food was cold and fairly tasteless. Not as ordered despite them confirming it was. More expensive than up to date menu had stated. Small quantities and seemed like some was leftovers from yesterday. Am new to area and looking for a new and GOOD Indian restaurant. It certainly is NOT this one !

I've had a meal for all the family last night, 4 adults and a 17 month old boy. The staff were amazing, polite, humorous, attentive [ but not overbearing] and courteous. The Restuarant was spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. The food was the best Indian meal I've ever had, plentiful tasty and beautifully presented. I cannot recommend then highly enough. If you are in the area don't hesitate to book either eat in or takeaway. You will not be disappointed.

Went last night for a friend's birthday, super service, really friendly, funny waiters, nothing was too much trouble even someone like me that's fussy and awkward, they catered to my needs and the food, ambience, service etc was fabulous. Highly recommend 👌

Booked a table for ten, been here a few times before and it’s been pretty good.! On this occasion it was pretty poor, dishes were bland and no flavour at all, one dish went back as it was tepid at best. The kheema naan was beyond edible. Won’t be going back

Arrived with the family on Saturday and have to say service and food was both so great. Definitely recommend but do book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Sadly, one of the rudest people I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting….. Friday evening visit, arrived at 8pm… Food was very good, no problem at all, the chefs had done a great job, it was prepared very quickly… Waiters were great, most helpful & polite, no problem with any of those… Sadly…. Owners son was probably one of the rudest people I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting… made it very clear they wanted to close early at 9pm. The bill came to £81 for the 3 of us and I was getting a tip ready to leave a nice deserved tip when he came back over and we was very rudely told that he would be calling the Police unless we left, totally ruined our meal, the staff were clearly embarrassed at his attitude after they’d been so good. We were told later his attitude was a downside to the restaurant. I attach a picture to my review, sincerely hope his family decide it’s wrong of him to give a bad name to their restaurant.

Very polite and attentive staff. Good choice of food. If you have been to India, which we have, this is what we call "English Indian", not completely authentic, but good enough. We always enjoy going there and particularly like it that we are served with a chocolate when we have a final coffee before leaving.

Been eating here 15 years . Treated out by parents and v disappointed . Cold tandoori. Very dry shashlik. Old Naan. Abrupt verging on rude . Used to be best Indian around no longer .

This is our go to local Indian as the quality of always of a high standard, whether it is eat in or takeaway. Always a popular choice, we never mind waiting for the freshly cooked food. A nice change where all the dishes don’t look and taste the same! Some great specials and very reasonably priced.

We are on holiday and popped in for our anniversary meal. Excellent service and advice on dishes to try. I am a coeliac and vegetarian and everything was clearly marked with lots of choice. A fantastic find and definitely worth a visit.

Good food, pleasant service. Surprised at the bill thought for sure under 25 but almost 30, seems £8.15 for 2 Poppadum’s and the pickle tray. I challenged and it was left unchanged.

Excellent service, very good food but seriously closing at 9pm is a joke even for Market Rasen. This place has splashed out some decent money on decor and personalised fittings. Surely the owners can come up with a decent promotional campaign to get this place buzzing much later into the night at least for the weekends. Not everyone wants takeaways.

I must emphasis this was not a restaurant visit, but a takeaway meal. We were regular customers of The Gate of India. After the endless lockdown and pointless restrictions I'm afraid takeaway meals were shelved in favour of home cooking. We decided a takeaway Indian meal would be a treat. The meal was not cheap, indeed poppadoms at 90p each are extravagant. The meal came swimming in sauce, in fact more sauce than chicken and the prawn dish was equally drowned. The pilau rice was just good old boiled rice and the whole meal lacked seasoning. A terrible disappointment and a waste of time and money. I cannot emphasis enough that this is not authentic Indian cooking, its lazy and The Gate of India are sleepwalking towards obscurity.

This is one of the better Indian restaurants we've eaten at, would have given it 5 stars but the sevice was a little on the slow side. We had to wait over 45 minutes for our starters, but the rest of the meal went well.

I visited Gate of India on 11th November 2021, my favourite Indian restaurant and yet again I was not disappointed. I always have the same dish, Prawn Dhania with Saag Rice, the coriander on the top was fresh and flavoursome. The service is always good...

Visited this restaurant last night whilst passing through in our camper. Ordered takeaway, wasn't sure what was on the menu but after telling them what I liked,they picked a dish for me.we had quite a long wait as they were extremely busy but it was well worth it. 10/10 from us. Couldn't fault the food and my husband had the rest tonight(quality/quantity excellent)thank you. Susan and russ

Best place for fine Indian cuisine

Our local go to Indian, great food, fast polite service and nothing ever too much. Lucky to have this on our doorstep but definitely worth travelling for!
