Delicious meal -very freshly cooked and all excellent quality.. Friendly landlord. child friendly and dog friendly. Beautiful children’s park very nearby. Wish we had found it earlier in our holiday!

Great food..! 7 strong group of golfers, some gastro snobs…not me I hasten to make clear ate here and had a great evening.. Food was varied and most acceptable. Cask ale was really good. This is a pub/restaurant that deserves more local support.. Use it or lose it..!

My wife and I had an excellent Easter Sunday lunch on the 9th April last. I had Breaded Haddock and Chips, absolutely fresh and cooked to perfection. Had the Garvald Inn been a mile or two nearer the Firth of Forth, and the haddock jumped from Firth to Frying Pan, it could not have been fresher. My wife had the Steak and Ale Pie; she found that excellent, as were the tasty carrots and cabbage, the latter with a delicious sauce. And she had the Lemon Posset and Raspberry Coulis, which she said was perfect. As to Dianne B's comments on "frozen chips;" ours at the Inn were excellent. Some years ago I took my wife for an expensive lunch in a very well known Glasgow restaurant, much praised for the quality of its food; as we left, there was a delivery van at the back/side door, and the van man was carrying in boxes of frozen chips. I commented on them to him; his reply: "Don't tell anyone!" I haven't, till now. That overpriced Glasgow lunch, years ago, may have given me a "Chip" on my shoulder. Not so the Garvald Inn. Disappointed with the price of the food. £16.90 for a steak pie. The pastry was flat though it was meant to be puff pastry Chips were very thin frozen ones fried. The lemon posset was lovely but the raspberry sauce on top was full of quite large chips of ice 100% not value for money Also being placed in the bar area with guys at the bar having a loud conversation when the lounge area was set up with cutlery etc If we were looking for a romantic or celebratory setting then we would have been highly disappointed Will never be back. Owners seemed to be new and struggling

Another delicious meal at Garvald Inn. Peter is an excellent cook and we've never had a disappointing meal here. Venison burger was very juicy and tasty, roast beef cooked perfectly and very tender. Thank you once again!

We stopped here after a cold cycle, just wanting a bowl of soup to warm ourselves up. After searching out the lady serving, she looked at her watch (it was 2.10pm so before the end of lunch according to the website) and grunted an 'OK'. The soup arrived after a while and it was actually delicious, hot and very tasty. It was such a shame that the welcome was so cold (plus being growled at by one of their actually very sweet dogs!). We run our own business and know how important first impressions are, a smile can work absolute wonders and costs nothing. It was our first visit and, I suspect, our last. No smile, no tip either. Just saying.

The chef can really cook- this is high class. Very friendly, service excellent. Not fast but that is what should be expected for fresh cooked meals- and much preferred to the ping of a microwave preceding the arrival of a mushy dish.

we had never been here before, Had lunch which was tasty could have been a but hotter. I have to say the service from Lady was pretty awful. Really not friendly what so ever. Only 1 word answers and very disinterested. as customers I saw her sitting in a chair reading a book in between service make sure you do this somewhere were customers cannot see you. Customer service is so important please make it better.

Fantastic food,we go back again and again.The owner and chef knows how to cook.A wee gem of a pub.I would highly recommend this pub.

Called in without booking one night on the way back to our holiday cottage. Good selection of beers and wines. And lovely pub grub. I had the duck with rhubarb and ginger and my daughter had the mushroom risotto and my wife had a chicken ceaser salad all lovely and a fair price. Dog friendly and the landlords two labradors where well trained and dog friendly too 👍

Local pub in a small village out in the East Lothian countryside. Friendly service and straightforward home cooked food. One real ale on from the Stewart Brewery. Small patio garden at the back. Worth a visit if in the area which looked great for cycling or walking.

Lovely country pub with very good quality pub food, some of the best I have had in a long time. It looks to be a family run place with proper freshly cooked food, the vegie sides with a good helping of butter and herbs were particularly delicious. The beer garden out the back is a really nice spot and, if you are not local, it’s definitely worth the effort to get out here.

My wife and I spent the weekend in East Lothian at the beginning of September and visited The Garvald Inn on two occasions. Our first visit was on a Saturday afternoon after we had walked from Gifford to Garvald and we popped in for a pint before walking back. We spent about an hour sitting in the beer garden enjoying a nice pint of real ale. We returned the following day for Sunday lunch, which was excellent. For starters we had Tempura Prawns and Soup of the Day, both were very nice. For main course we both went for the Sunday Roast and the beef was excellent. After our meal we had a nice chat with the owners. The Garvald Inn is a lovely countryside pub that serves good food and real ale.

Two delicious steak and ale pies and two outstanding sticky toffee puddings made our locked-down week. Tremendously kind staff, outstanding service: The Garvald Inn knocked our socks off. Thank you!

Reserved a table prior to our visit to enjoy an excellent Sunday lunch. Roast rib of beef and sticky toffee pudding to be thoroughly recommended! A friendly atmospheric inn with safety measures being respected.

Excellent Sunday lunch, all the (now) usual safety measures, Friendly welcome and excellent food, with a promising menu for the rest of the week.

We stopped by for a meal after a hike around the nearby fields. Food was first rate and service was excellent. If/when we come by Garvald again we'll make sure to come again.
