Large room on 1st floor. Great for dogs. Staff are excellent friendly and helpful. Great location not far from the beach or the town. Food in restaurant is excellent. Enjoyed the breakfast and main meals. Will be back later in the year. 11/24 Now our third visit. The quality hasn't dropped. Staff still excellent and so friendly. Food is still top notch. Sunday roast was beautiful. The room is comfortable and warm. Doggies love their sausage in the morning. Love the service of filling out your breakfast requirements the night before. Good choice as well.

Our waitress was lovely, funny, helpful and efficient. Just avoid the so-called Buddha bowl. It was an uninspired collection of oily, tasteless ingredients costing pennies but charged at around £17. Undressed rocket, oily limp roasted kale, naked edamame beans, small amount of roasted courgette and red onion, again greasy and flavourless with a dod of what I think was hummus but who knows and a small spoonful of cous cous. I'd have complained but I was the guest of someone else and didn't want to embarrass them. Having said all of that, the chocolate mousse was delicious, thick and rich with shards of chocolate on top.

I don’t normally write any negative reviews but we were disappointed in our food at Nether Abbey. We had not been at the hotel for a while & previous experiences were very good. Service was very good and we like the atmosphere in the hotel but the food was very average.

Very basic bar food , went for lunch and could only get bar snacks which were overpriced, basic and not what l would have expected. The food was of a low standard and very greasy as of the oil hadn’t been hot enough and made the food soggy. It took 30mins to be served the food despite being quiet and some of the food was cold and had clearly been sitting a while.

After visiting my son in North Berwick we wanted to try the Rockateer restaurant but it was closed on a Wednesday. So we decided on The Fly Half as we had been there 5 yrs ago when our meal was okay, but not this time the food was appalling. 4 slices of hand made bread which was no way "hand made" served with a dish of cooking oil we couldn't eat it.£4.95 olives drenched in cooking oil £4.95. Fish&chips the fish very over cooked with dried up chips. £17.50 3 tiny fish cakes with £9.50 Chefs Salad topped with thick chunks of half cooked carrots drenched in cooking oil couldn't eat it £6.50 Garlic chips which came without any garlic the waiter took them away brought back the same chips which had been refried again they were translucent sodden with cooking oil some garlic on top couldn't eat them £6.50. Don't get me wrong no complaints about the waiting staff they were all very pleasant they seemed embarrassed by the quality of the food which was served to us and didn't charge us. The owners of this restaurant seriously need to change their chef and also look at their pricing. We, and I'm sure many others would expect quality food at these prices.

You'll enjoy staying here , I absolutely did. The room are a good size and immaculately kept. The real highlight is the breakfast , unusual way to do it with having a form in your room to hand in to reception but my god it's worth doing. A friend recommended the Nether Abbey for a meal and my mum, dad and I went today. Staff were really friendly and helpful. My mum and dad had carrot and onion soup and a lobster and salmon bisque to start that they both really enjoyed and we all had the Sunday roast beef. Wow. I can honestly say it was the BEST Sunday roast I have ever eaten. Absolutely delicious. Thanks to the chef! They have a great wine selection and the bar area looks great too. Thanks for a lovely lunch and I would highly recommend the restaurant for a meal.

My husband and I had a great lunch at Nether Abbey Hotel. We had a beautiful table just beside the open doors so we were able to look out to the garden area in the sunshine. The restaurant has beautiful decor. The staff were welcoming and friendly. My husband had always wanted to try lobster and he was not disappointed with the fresh seafood and lobster available. I had the fish and chips which was HUGE and delicious. I also enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine - the wine list was extensive and had a great selection! The only reason I haven’t gave it the full 5 stars was due to waiting quite a long time for our starter nibbles of bread and olives but overall it was a fantastic lunch and would definitely return and recommend!

Went here for a pre-fringe by the sea meal and overall delighted by the attentive friendly service and high quality food. We had the mixed board to start and venison for main which is probably the best venison meal we have had. The mix of flavours were so good. Great to have full restaurant menu in the bar so we could bring the pup with us. Only room for improvement is the bread that came with the platter which, although fresh and homemade, we didn't like the texture.

Nice place, specially in the good weather when you can sit outside. The food is good, but despite not being cheap you don't get much as the portions are very small. This is the main reason we've never been back. Drinks were nice, water for the table was nice. Sunday roast was lovely. However, the bar snacks plates were not good at all. The prawns were small, rubbery and seemed to be frozen. The mac n cheese looked like the box of cheesy pasta but less flavour than this. Puddings were ok, key lime pie wasn’t great tho. Lacked flavour. Wouldn’t return. Service was mixed. Young girl was terrible. Treated us at the door, mumbled something then walked away. Other staff were lovely.

Recommended by friends, we were really disappointed and had a very unsatisfactory dinner. Firstly - the new safety procedures. It started well recording name and contact details, separate entries and exits, tables sufficiently separated etc. However, 1 member of staff even at that point had his mask around his chin-why issue them if that is acceptable. Then a group of about 8 people came in and moved the tables around so they could all sit together - none of the staff seemed to want to deal with that. Then it started raining and all the people outside came in - even through the exits - no contacts details recorded, no hands sanitised , less social distancing as chairs moved closer, and there was even a dog wandering around off a lead.We were trying to enjoy a nice meal but the whole atmosphere became a noisy bar. Where was the senior staff?Secondly - the food. There was lobster and langoustine chowder on the menu, which was ordered. It had no fish taste whatsoever , included many different vegetables that we thought they had made a mistake and given us vegetable soup by mistake. It was never chowder! According to the menu it came with artisan bread- which consisted of 3 very thin slices of what we thought was a baguette -if that was artisan bread they need to change their artisan supplier. We also had the pate which was very nice and consisted of 2 quenelles but came with 4 very small pieces of melba toast. We asked for more and that came quickly but the restaurant then tried to charge us £3.95 for the extra. The prices are not cheap but would be acceptable if the food was as good as described on the menu, and the atmosphere in keeping with a restaurant. The biggest problem was that there was no-one around who wanted to deal with our complaints, or even show any leadership. Our young server tried her best and her efforts, together with the fact that most of the food was acceptable is the reason why I have given the place 2 stars not 1

Tried to book a table tonight for lunch tomorrow after the rememberance service in North Berwick. I am local and was very surprised to be told "you will have to phone back tomorrow morning as we are far too busy with the Beer and Gin Festival to deal with bookings for lunch" Member of staff called Stephen - very rude - so I guess will not be going for Sunday lunch tomorrow - I liked going to the Nethers - not anymore - maybe a bit more staff training needed Sterling - especially when I am local and it will be no doubt a long winter - glad I wasn't trying to book a hotel room!!! - not be going back and will be spreading the work amongst locals - plenty of places in North Berwick to spend my hard earned on - especially when not a tourist!!! Nice night so my wife and I went out for a bite to eatWhilst the food ranged from beautiful to sublime the service range from poor to diabolical. Waited 35 minutes after getting the menu and then had to ask if our order could be taken. Drinks also forgotten about. And from order to starters took another 30 minutes. So disorganised and in some way disinterested in the guests outside. We sat outside as it was a lovely night. We were outside so yes there was the fly and the occasional wasp but couldn’t believe when the waiter supplied the table next to us with insect repellent which they proceed to spray in a food area. We did ask them to stop as it was rather unacceptable. Overall it was a night out but needlessly elongated due to staff lack of interest. Would I go back yes as the food is stunning. Chef please have a word with front of house they are doing your food a disservice and showing on this occasion scant regards for your food and your efforts

The high cost does not reflect the quality of the food. £25 for an 8oz steak is already on the high side but to not include a sauce and then charge £3.50 is really stingey. I had the lobster bisque which I expected to be something special. In reality it was a bowl of vegetable soup with a hint of lobster. My friend had the fish finger "sandwich" which was a couple of fish goujons in an anaemic ciabatta. All the food lacked love and attention and at that sort of price I want to feel spoiled, not as if I'm spending my hard earned cash on something I could have done better myself.

Our last visit was poor so a few months later we all decided to give it a go again. Soo disappointed ... firstly the service was really slow , even for the drinks to arrive. The waitress I felt was abrubt & there seemed to be no one in charge of the team of servers. We asked for the air con to be turned down & halfway through our meal a waitress opened a door wide onto the outdoor seating area & never even asked us if that was ok. & it was a blast from the past as the weather had got colder in the evenings. Two chose breaded fish & chips peas the only thing that was well cooked were the chips! The fish was dry & had been waiting to be served up! Another portion was the sea bream not a very appetising presentation & like the other portions it was dried out & not good. My portion was lamb shank , it had also been waiting to be served up rather dried out , a small serving of mash & one piece of kale & 2 bits of deep fried veg soo poor not fresh just dried up & very unappetising.

We were here for lunch with a group of friends. Starter of pate was minuscule with two tiny biscuits and I have had a far larger 'Amuse Bouche'. Bland Bread with dish of oil and balsamic asking for trouble with cross contamination. Turkey was dried out probably with lying under the pass for to long. Fish was ok but lacked seasoning. Panna cotta was a bit to firm , shortbread was ok. Service was pretty terrible even though the whole place was not busy with some of the group finishing coffee while others were still waiting on the sweet. Other disappointment was that they do not serve either low alcohol or non alcohol wine which all their major competitors within a short distance do. With Scotland having a virtual Zero Drink Driving limit this is very poor in this day and age and shows the management have a poor attitude to public safety. IMO there are plenty of far better places to eat nearby with better quality food and service.

My caddie at North Berwick Golf Club recommended the restaurant in the Nether Abbey Hotel for dinner after my round of golf. The food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. My wife and I ate in the dining room, which is adjacent to the bar, but there was very little noise from the bar, so we had a very pleasant evening. The bar has some excellent craft beers on tap, and the restaurant has a very nice wine list. Had been trying to find a pub that was dog friendly and served a Sunday lunch. Finally found this place and there were tables available. It wasn’t busy when we arrived and were able to sit in the bar area with the dog. The bar and restaurant area appeared clean and well presented. Ordered two beef dinners which came with seasonal veg, roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding, and red wine jus. I asked the waitresss what the seasonal veg was and all she could do was list off what came with the beef which I was able to read on the menu. I then ordered a glass of wine with lemonade however the wine came without lemonade. Due to Recently having surgery I was not comfortable going up to the bar to have some put in and no one came past for me to ask them. Our food finally came and was very disappointing especially for the price we paid. The potatoes were still hard in the middle, the veg was undercooked and was not the type of veg we would normally have. The jus ruined the flavour of the meal and the Yorkshire’s were slightly over cooked. Throughout our meal no one came to check on us to see if our food was ok or if we wanted anymore drinks despite the fact there were members of staff stood round talking. Even when our plates were cleared we were not asked about our meals. We were asked if we wanted desserts but we declined and no one came to us after that. My partner then had to go to the bar to get the bill and pay. Overall a very disappointing experience and would not return

It is fair to say it was quite busy but there seemed to be a lot of staff not really knowing what they were doing. We ordered drinks and they did take a while to arrive. Our main courses were ok but also took a while to arrive. When we had all finished our meal we sat with the dirty plates on our table for a very long time only being removed when we had asked for desserts and coffees. When ordering more drinks the staff were not very friendly and quite frankly rude. It is a nice relaxed place to go but I feel the free childcare facility needs to be addressed. Children playing all over the bar and doing gymnastics on the furniture! Will I be visiting again? I don't think so.

When paying I was told we should have been in the resteraunt,( we were put in the bar area) though I'd asked twice earlier if we could move & been told it wasn't possible. We came here after playing golf at North Berwick and had a nice meal. The menu had a good variety of choices and the atmosphere was pleasant.

We had a lovely al fresco lunch before walking round this delightful seaside town. We washed the sand from our toes in our large and airy room and came down to the attractive dining area with a healthy appetite. What a good menu and what good friendly service. Local produce freshly cooked. What could be better?

Had a 'fresh orange' from bar. Mostly water from the ice. Nothing like proper orange juice. Fortunately someone else was buying.

Glad we booked as the restaurant was busy, but there we plenty of staff who provided great service. The menu was not too busy, but had a good variety and prided itself on locally sourced produce. I went for the mussels as a main course and they were very good.

I booked a table for four in what was described as the Conservatory; it was not a Conservatory in the usual sense, it was more comfortable than that and felt to be an integral part of the hotel and bar area. It was modern, light and airy and very comfortable.Staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. the food, lamb for the men and organic chicken for the ladies was delicious, very well cooked with an interesting twist in the recipes. Faultless. We shared desserts, thank goodness, they were huge but lovely with it. The wine, a house Merlot was very good representing good value. The restaurant was busy with a nice lively atmosphere, mainly golfing parties. All in all very good value for money in lovely surroundings.

Had a brilliant dinner here on Saturday night. It tied in with watching the football so it was a perfect night!!The food was excellent like always, it keeps us coming back for more. The choice was good for gluten free, I had the fish and it was the best battered fish I've had up till now. The steak my husband had he said was good and there was a good quantity of food for us both. One thing I'd like to know is "why do you give a really big pot of potted meat with a slice and a half of toast"?? (Pity I hadn't taken a pic of it to show how stupid it is) There was less than half used, even the waitress came back from the kitchen to ask if there was a problem with the potted meat. No there wasn't prob with meat barr seriously lacking in anything to put it on!! The desserts were yummy, you can pick any one of them and you'll want more for sure!! That said, we still had a wonderful evening and we highly recommend if you are in the area to drop in. I do recommend booking if you want it for a large group or special occasion to avoid disappointment. For disabled there is disabled access and a disabled toilet. There is off road parking to the front of the building but there's limited spaces. However that said there is on road parking usually available so you wouldn't be stuck.

I organised a trip for our church Guild to North Berwick. I booked High Tea for 35 Ladies, from the minute we walked in till we left was excellent, the Manager and staff were there to welcome us and showed us where we were to go, the tables and setting were impeccable as was the service, we had a varied menu and everyone was delighted with their choice, every thing was freshly made and everyone enjoyed their meal. I would highly recommend them.

We had a decidedly uneven experience at Nether Abbey Hotel. The food was fine, perhaps above the norm, but the disinterested service took away from the overall experience. We were seated in the side dining area and were promptly all but forgotten. After a 15 minute wait we had to get up from the table and seek out our waiter to put in a drink order and solicit a menu. The pace picked up after ordering two bottles of wine but candidly that had more to do with the wine than the overall dining experience.

I had fish fillet, my friends fish and chips. My meal wasn't that big but still very filling (I'd recommend them to use a bit less oil/butter but maybe add some more vegis instead, make it a bit more healthy basically). My friends' fish and chips were big portions.Quite classy, formal atmosphere, friendly staff.

We went on our last evening in Scotland with our friends. Sat in the newer part of the hotel restaurant. What an absolutely fantastic meal! I had a fish pie - much like a shepherds pie, huge pieces of fresh fish, lovely sauce and oh soooooo good. All of the other meals were delicious, everyone cleaned their plates. I chose a cheese plate instead of dessert - it was fanastic. 3 different cheese's and small scottish oat cakes as well as some picked celery which was a very unexpected and delicious surprise - cut the richness of the cheese. Wine/beer enjoyed by all, truly a memorable evening. Well done!

Ended up visiting twice on our visit to NB. Eating the first time and meeting friends for a drink on another occasion. This still has the local hotel feel - but has been brought up to the 21st century with a tasteful makeover and a wheelchair friendly access that was not evident 20-30 years ago.The food was good, beer choice good, atmosphere nice and definitely one we will continue to visit when in the area.

Popped in for lunch on a visit to North Berwick. Order swiftly taken and an expensive glass of wine appeared moments after. Then we waited and waited to see if any food would follow. Tables who arrived after us were tucking in enthusiastically to their lunches. I went to ask where our food was and a few minutes later it appeared. It was pretty grim, overcooked and not at all tasty. A pudding was paired with lumpy custard - often seen in school canteens but surely not in an establishment with a chef! The lumpy custard was replaced with a smooth jugful but the pudding wasn't replaced. Certainly won't be going back!

Had a bar meal on a Saturday around 6pm. First tip would be to book a table. The menu is varied with tapas style dishes available. The Veggie burger was very tasty as was our choice of small dishes. The chips are double cooked but were a bit dry. There is also a good choice of real ales on tap. (4 taps changing regularly). Outdoor seating available if the weather suits. Car park at front of hotel.

Well I understand that Sunday afternoon is busy in places like this, but waiting 15 min to place an order?...Way too long. Then long wait for the food. Finally when arrived...next disappointment. My food was just not right! Under-cooked green beans, greasy potatoes with olives, under-cooked chicken and something totally burned between potatoes :( probably from dirty pan...For a first time in my life I had to send the food back and because I had no time to wait for something else I left this place being hungry...Avoid if you have a choice.

We went with a group of 6 and took advantage of an early bird special they had which included a beer or wine with the burger or fish and chips. Most of us took the fish and chips which included a healthy portion of battered or breaded fish, hand cut chips and your choice of mushy or regular peas. It wasn't the first time I've eaten here and I can say the quality is always consistent. The deserts are also yummy.

My wife and I went early Saturday evening for an anniversary dinner. The starters were excellent, but then the main courses arrived. My wife had the Sea Bass, expecting a reasonable sized piece of fish, she received a few thin pieces of tail end the skin was very rubbery. The accompanying, what she thought was something aubergine based vegetables, didn't look appetising at all, in fact it had a resemblance to something a dog had regurgitated. I had the Beef and Bone Marrow burger. This at the start was a very tasty burger albeit, with the dressings rather oily, until I got to the last mouth full, which appeared to be more marrow than beef, which I had to remove from my mouth rather quickly. At this point I decided against a dessert, I had one from our freezer when I got home. We had passed The Winton many times and had said we must try it. We had returned from an Holiday the day before and with it being our anniversary I thought we would go rather than cook at home. I am sorry I did now. To be honest I found The Winton to be slightly overpriced but under average food quality when compared to other restaurants in the surrounding area. Very unlikely we would return.
