Herringbone in East Lothian

Was so looking forward to returning to the Herringbone North Berwick but unfortunately deeply disappointed. Live music but feel a little too loud for such a small space, couple next to us asked to move! Cocktails great as usual. I chose the seafood chowder .... terrible .... far far too much cream. Always order this here .... terrible. Creamed mushrooms on bruchetta not fantastic but I was so hungry I ate most of the plate .... again far too much cream. Overall very disappointing

Though tasty, my wife felt her starter with three prawns was a bit meagre. My smoked duck breast was delicious and though I enjoyed my main of venison haunch it was a bit too chewy. The sea trout went down well with my better half. Bit on the expensive side. However we would return.

At first glance this place is welcoming and nicely decorated, the menu has a variety of dishes to choose from however the food was a bit of let down, the place is a bit pretentious and the prices really don’t match the quality.

Service: Slow as could possibly be. The girl looked utterly miserable. The lad was a tad more forthcoming. Food: Venison as tough as old boots. Steak burger ditto. Chips lukewarm. Others in the party were underwhelmed by it all. Didn’t hang about for desert or tea/coffee. Rather Expensive for mediocre food.

Very tasty lunchtime meal, service was great too. Good dairy free and gluten free options.

Terrific interior design, very friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, delicious mocktails and curry in a nice warm plate! Enjoyed the olives and hummus with bread to start!

I arrived a bit earlier than my friends, so I sat at a table and ordered a drink waiting for their arrival, I was then asked to vacate my table as regulars were coming in and they liked that table, not booked but liked it, so being polite I moved to another table. My friends then arrived and we sat at a table just behind the one I’d been asked to leave for the regulars, for 1 whole hour no one came to the for mentioned table, which wasn’t the problem, we asked for menus to order food after already spending in excess of £100 on drinks alone ,we were about to order when the manager ( and I use those words lightly) asked us to vacate the table we where sitting at as it was required for locals once more, needless to say it was the last of our custom they got or ever will.Spoilt a good reunion good Hilton chef’s. I hope they read this and focus more on customer service and for the record no one turned up for these tables. Sad state of affairs herring bone staff 🤔

Visited yesterday for my wife' s birthday. Great service,food and drinks But the restaurant was cold which is why I gave 4 stars

Amazing food at a good price - generous portions and creative ingredients, everything tasted fantastic. Amazing cocktails. Really nice atmosphere, kid friendly too. Service a little slow - that could have just been on the night. Staff all friendly.

I had the Cajun chicken burger, and it was 10/10!

This is just simply the best place to have lunch, and the seafood chowder is simply the best! We have been assured they will always have it on the menu. The artisan bread was so delicious we had extra. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. As for the chips that came with our burger, the best we have had ....you must try them.

A wonderful restaurant in North Berwick! The food was bursting with flavour, beautifully presented, and the portions were just right. The ambiance added to the experience, making it a place I'll definitely return to!

Warm welcome, told about any specials. Drinks delivered quickly, food was amazing delicious and well presented the mushroom starter was out of this world. Steak cooked to perfection. Knowledgable staff. Warm and cosy interior. Highly recommend. Also recommend booking.

We were a group of six adults so experienced a wide selection from the menu. The food was excellent; service was efficient and the waiters knowledgeable; the wide selection of drinks a real bonus. Dogs were welcomed. Definitely our best restaurant experience in North Berwick.

Truly remarkable food and service. I had a wonderful fish burger, and a mushroom on toast starter. Glorious! Plus there was relaxing, and very talent live background music. 5 stars!

Can't comment on the food as we only had cocktails. Service was great and cocktails where amazing especially Koko beach.. definitely go back again and highly recommend 😁

The food wasn’t worth the money we paid. The chicken burger was way too sweet. It was like eating a dessert. Feels like they are trying too hard to be posh but it just didn’t work. But worst of all was the amount of flies in the place. They were absolutely everywhere which was completely gross and off putting. Won’t be in a hurry to go back

Food was superb. Staff were polite and knowledgeable. The restaurant was constantly busy and had a good vibrant feeling to it. Thoroughly enjoyed our food and the service was amongst the best I have encountered. Will definitely be returning.

I had high hopes for this restaurant but unfortunately we had a bad experience. The kids burgers had to be returned as they were the wrong order. When the replacements came, they weren't correct either. The Birthday boys meal was forgotten and came to the table later. I had the venison and it wasn't great. We were promised complimentary drinks but they were still on the bill. A few people in the group had severe allergies and it made me worry that they also wouldn't have been remembered but thankfully they were OK.

A nice steak burger with fries was just what was needed after hiking.

Our second visit here was every bit as good as the first. Food was excellent, and service very efficient delivered by a friendly and willing team. We’ll be back!

Visiting the area, stumbled across this place. So pleased we did. Originally just drinks, but felt very settled so stayed for food. We spent 5 hours here. Lovely staff, good drinks . Honestly food is amazing. We had Venison Gaunch, Scallops and back pudding. Best meal we have had in a long time......

Wonderful staff very friendly very helpful we came here after long long drive and later did the Edinburgh fringe, with everything the city had to offer The Herringbone was where we returned also for our last night, we feasted on steaks gorgeous wine and sumptuous sides all with a two piece band playing fiddle and guitar whilst singing melodic tunes. What a brilliant evening.

Our party tried three of the burgers (steak burger, salmon burger, and the gourmet burger of the day) as well as the halloumi and avocado salad with salmon. All four meals were excellent, and even the burger snobs among us (yes, serious burger connoisseurs) were seriously impressed! Great service too and a lovely spot in general. Highly recommend.

Really enjoyed our lunch, and had fantastic service from Max our waiter who was friendly, helpful and experienced in helping with food and wine choices.

Superb - busy - a great restaurant - nice table and atmosphere . I had the sea bream with noodles and mango salsa - it was delicious - great choice of drinks and friendly staff - local craft beers and a great menu choice. would highly recommend.

We really enjoyed visiting the Herringbone. Excellent food and wine and the staff were very attentive. Our waiter Max was very friendly and helpful. We will surely be back as we are planning a longer holiday in North Berwick

Food was average, nothing ordered was crispy as it should have been. Most disappointing was the service and the very officious lady in charge who certainly did not make any of the customers feel welcome. Will not return

Great service lovely ambiance. Cocktails were good. Slight criticism is that the Bloody Mary had what tasted like sweet chilli sauce in it instead of Tobasco. The food was excellent I recommend the venison it was delicious. I would happily return.

A really good menu with a selection of dishes for those with special dietary needs. Our waitress was nice and especially friendly & efficient. The seafood chowder starter was tasty and looked small but was filling & the seeded bread was good with it. Coq au vin for main was brilliantly cooked with crispy skin but still moist😋 I thought I'd be too full for a sweet, but the Affogato was perfect 👌. This is a well run & busy restaurant that I'll visit again. Spending some more time in East Lothian again so went in for a spot of light lunch with friends. The scallops with black pudding was great & all perfectly cooked. The waiting staff are still fabulous too!

Wow! Extremely impressed with this place. Went in for coffee and amaro. Even though they didn't have the latter, we changed our mind to have some wine instead. Great and pretty big selection of wines by the glass and the only thing what topped it to perfection was the immaculate service Andrew provided. So glad, will be back to try the dishes soon.

This is a regular haunt for myself and my husband. The food is superb, great choice and interesting twists on familiar favourites! Staff are efficient and friendly, but perhaps a little over attentive.

The Herringbone is a lovely restaurant in North Berwick, has fantastic drink options and the food is delicious! Definitely recommend to book before you go as they might not have a table!

Unpleasant welcome unfortunetly…

We had a table booked for 8.45pm last night (2 people) We drove 1 hour to get there and were held up in traffic so arrived at 9pm to be told the kitchen was closed. We were very disappointed ! We decided to stay for a drink which we waited 25 minutes on 😮and even more frustrated when food was being served at tables beside us ! Will not be returning or recommending.

Food was great. Between us we had the fish finger sandwich (Amazing!), scallops and the gourmet burger. Nice presentation and really tasty food. Good selection of non alcoholic beers. My only downside was that the prices for some dishes seem expensive for what you get. I'd definitely recommend booking as it fills up fast!

My wife and I went out on for a date night to the Herringbone which we don't do often as we have a young toddler. When we arrived the staff were superb. They were friendly and the service was great. Food arrived quickly and was really tasty. However, then 4 members the new management arrived and sat at the table behind us using a fake name for the booking. They were obnoxious to the staff and in general really. They complained about how quick the service was having only been there 15 minutes. They were rude to their own staff and continued to have rants about the service as if they were food critics at a Michelin star restaurant. My recommendation would be to enjoy the restaurant and hope you are not joined by the WAZACKS that own the place. These folk are the ones that need to learn how to conduct themselves and learn some manners. You own the place,. you should think about customers too!

Nice looking restaurant. Too bad the portions are way too small for the price you pay.

The food was very good and good for value. The service was exceptional, our waitress Jen took very great care of us. The manager who greeted us at the door Owen was so accommodating with our requests. Darren the chef came to our table to help explain some dietary requirements and advise us on what to eat from the menu. Matt on the bar was full of knowledge and enthusiasm as he recommended drinks and Max was full of charm as he came to deliver them, couldn’t recommend highly enough.

Always love Herringbone, great food, fab service and comfortable. Only gave 4 stars for ambience this time as we found the music a bit loud.

Loved our lunch here. We were up in North Berwick for a wedding and needed lunch and we really fancied wine. This place was perfect. Stunning food, a glass of white, we chatted with the staff and had a great experience.

9 empty tables they told me ALL RESERVED but nothing on tables....obviously they don't like bikers

Good food and atmosphere. Service was good. Live music was a bonus.

It's very true that you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and the dirty state of the drinks menu (see picture) on the table was our first impression of this place. What a shame, when all it needed was a wipe with a cloth. The food was nice and good value - well cooked with quality ingredients. The surroundings were pleasant as were the staff. Unfortunately, the last impression was as bad (if not worse) than the first one. The bill (see picture) had a 10% service charge added and then there was an expectation of a tip!! This left a very nasty taste. I doubt we'll go back.

Had a lovely meal at 5pm on a Saturday, food excellent and staff very attentive, lovely feel about the place and much bigger than you would think from the outside, will definately return!

We nipped in for a bite to eat on our recent trip to North Berwick, we arrived just at opening time with our 2 year old daughter and the staff were accommodating, friendly and attentive. The food was great and the environment was clean, friendly and inviting. Would recommend if you are in the area and are looking for somewhere to have a bite to eat.

Disappointing aubergine curry which tasted good but was a starter-sized portion served in a bowl together with rice and mini poppadoms, both of which absorbed juices from the curry, so soggy poppadoms. Poor textures. Nice ambiance however.

Just for a beer to take a rest. £6.5 for a paint beer:)

Such a great place in North Berwick. The atmosphere is great, with a fun beach look. The food was exquisite. I had the venison & chorizo burger with sweet potato chips. I loved how they cooked the chips Everything was perfectly cooked. The salmon burger was a great combination of flavors. We ordered a side of mac & cheese for fun and it was divine. I wanted to take a bucket of that stuff to go. So tasty. The mousse was a little too loose, but tasty. Service was great and prices were good.

Loved the ambience, dog friendly, made us very welcome. And the salmon was amazing (especially the salmon burger).

My Hugo was lacking so I switched to wine. Server was unphased which is exactly right! Food fine, nothing amazing but cooked nicely. Have been here several times usually in warmer times. Perhaps the lack of atmosphere due to barely anyone in there. We will give it another go later in the year.

I really liked this place in North Berwick. It's simple and relaxed but does it very well. The staff were fantastic - it was a busy Wednesday night with three of them on but there wasn't a moment of stress between either one of them. The cocktails were great (I rate a place largely based on how good they can make a margarita and this was 10/10) and the food was good. A slightly over-salted haddock was all that let it down. Would definitely recommend if you're visiting NB.

I've dined in the Herringbone over the last few years and had good food and good service. There is a wide selection of drinks and dishes to suit everyone. I visited last weekend and found the service very slow to the point we had to prompt someone to take our order. The food was ok, not as tasty as it sounded on the menu. I won't be in a rush to go back.

The food at Herringbone was very good, the service friendly and professional and the atmosphere pleasant. Better than expected and a good place for Lunch.

Fabulous lunch and excellent service

Attentive staff, decent choice for vegetarians, lovely food, and finished off with a latte served at the right temperature without an inch of foam on the top. So all good!

This welcoming restaurant is in central North Berwick with parking on the street. The tables are arranged in booths and stand alone providing seating options for different sized groups. We were a party of six including a six year old and three year old and the booth arrangement worked well. The menu can be found online and includes starters, salads, mains and burgers and sandwiches. They also offer a kids menu. The children in our party were provided with crayons and colouring in materials to keep them amused pending service. The staff were delightful. Everyone enjoyed their food. This was mid market family style brasserie eating (if there is such a thing) and it worked really well. Location, ambience, menu, service and cost were all good. A special word of gratitude to the mostly young staff who seemed to be invariably cheery and quite engaged with what they were doing.

This is always our go to place for lunch when visiting North Berwick and our last visit in June was just super. However, lunch last week just didn't hit the mark. Our beetroot salads were very different in makeup from both our last visit and between the two dishes on the table. Mine had a pile of croutons, my partners, two. Three pieces of beetroot on my dish, my partner, more than he could count. We had chips with the other main courses but they were unpleasant. More like the bits you get at a chip shop, overcooked and hard. The burgers were ok,

Looking for somewhere for lunch and this was one of the only places open (it was a Monday) lovely lady in charge, fresh water brought out which was nice as I don't drink much else, but it dies stop people ordering drinks. I had a salmon burger which was amazing, pickled cucumber was to die for. Just a shame I couldn't fit in a dessert. Nice to see a tasty menu rather than the usual stuff. We'll worth a visit.

We popped in for lunch on a Saturday and so glad we did! A delicious warming bowl of homemade leek and potato soup was followed by a tantalising dish of puy lentils and spinach Dahl. Really friendly and reasonably priced, staff very helpful too

The menu was so fabulous it was impossible to choose from. I could have enjoyed just about everything. Having had a late lunch, I had two starters instead of a main course. Absolutely beautiful. First class service and very reasonable price

Busy and bustling on a Thursday evening in late September with live music in the front bar area. We were happy to be seated in the quieter back restaurant but it was a little weird to have other piped music playing in the background. No complaints about the food, well cooked and presented. Service a bit sporadic but friendly. Worth a visit just don’t set your expectations too high!

On Thursday past three of us ate here, the sharing small plates were really good, the pork and chorizo burger with all it's bits and pieces was great every morsel was eaten, the green prawn curry and grilled ginger and soy salmon were equally appreciated. Staff were great, atmosphere was great thanks to the singer who was really good and resulted in us having a far longer stay but very much worth it. Location on the main street was perfect for us. Would recommend to anyone, for food, just drinks or both. The entertainment was a grea6bonus. There were people of all ages in from wee ones in buggies to more mature folks like us and everything else in between.

Having eaten here before I hoped for a great evening and I was not disappointed. The food here is excellent cooked exactly to my taste very friendly welcoming staff great atmosphere.

Awful. Rotten salad with children's meal, lipstick on the glass, starter arriving with main course. No discernable service.

I enjoyed my visit. I was pleased that they allowed our well-behaved dog in.
