The Gannet in Glasgow City

Absolutely lovely. Lunch menu was excellent and staff so friendly and attentive.

Excellent service from attentive staff and every course was beautifully presented. The big disappointment for me was my main course. I ordered the sirloin (£20 supplement) and was advised that this would be served “medium rare” which was perfectly acceptable. However I was surprised to receive two small medallions of meat which had been briefly fried on one side only and then presented with the raw side facing up. To me this isn’t “medium rare”. To add to my disappointment this course was warm rather than hot, as was my wife’s fish dish. I know that the management will say that I should have complained at the time but, like others who have submitted reviews and mentioned the same fault, I had no wish to become the focus of attention in a busy restaurant. Will I be back? Time will tell.

We had heard great reviews for this restaurant from friends and booked in for lunch. It lived up to our expectations and more. The service was exceptional as was the food. We had the four course lunch, and all were superb. My favorite dish, them all! Whilst it is not cheap by any standards, it is very good value considering the standard of cooking. We are already looking at returning for an evening meal, with out the car this time too .

Absolutely tremendous, 10/10 experience. Food, service, and venue itself all hitting every mark. Had once of the best meals we have ever had today. Cannot wait to return!

Ok so we had an itison voucher for 4 so £140 up front. It’s a Wednesday evening, restaurant full. Bread and canapé tasty. Starters fine. We all ordered monkfish for main and all agreed overcooked and tough. We mentioned to server ( who was delightful) and while apology no acceptance from kitchen. 3 of us ordered cheese at £5 supplement which is fine but as it’s Ian Mellis can’t really complain nor attribute to the Gannet. No acceptance of our feedback which was disappointing. In summary be careful on itison as all is not as it seems when you check out as many dishes have supplements and at about £100/ head with wine in a competitive market, we won’t be back Manager barely reacted to feedback What a shame !

Visited The Gannet with two friends, and from start to finish, it was an exceptional dining experience. The atmosphere was stylish yet relaxed, with attentive but unobtrusive service. They started with the scallops, which were beautifully cooked and packed with flavour and I had the Shorthorn beef, it was really tasty. For mains, Venison & lamb were had. Each dish was perfectly executed, showcasing incredible depth of flavour and expert cooking. The quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite. To finish, I opted for the cheese selection followed by a whisky, which was a fantastic way to round off the meal. The staff were knowledgeable and helped us choose the perfect whisky pairings. A truly outstanding meal, and a must-visit for anyone in Glasgow who appreciates top-quality food.

Everything was lovely. Delicious dinner, friendly, efficient staff and a nice ambiance. Perfect night to celebrate our son’s 25th birthday.

Great place with equally good food!

Amazing food, service and wine, one of the top 3 restaurants we have visited in Glasgow . Definetly a special experience and worth the visit and costs. High end food and everything was delicious. It is predominantly fish so note if a meat fan.

No es un restaurante fácil de definir con estilo, es moderno y elegante comedor con un ambiente relajado, informal, amigable y acogedor. Basado en Argyle Street, en una zona que realmente ha desarrollado una fuerte cultura de comida y bebida a su alrededor, un lugar realmente genial en Glasgow, popular entre los estudiantes, parejas y por lo que parece los lugareños también. Llegué y fue recibido con gusto, unas pocas mesas en pero de ninguna manera lleno, la habitación está muy bien hecho, paredes de ladrillo visto, un montón de madera y muy elegantemente amueblado, con los ajustes de la mesa simple y bien pensado, una vela de iglesia encantadora en cada uno. Simplemente maravilloso. el servicio era muy profesional, pero también se sentía personal. la comida era simplemente de calidad excepcional y cocinado a la perfección (vieira, ciervo, perdiz, caballa) . porciones no eran pequeñas, pero habría esperado solo un poco más. fuimos por un vino Veran callejero que combinaba perfectamente y cambió a una copa de tinto con la carne. sin duda volveremos de nuevo la próxima vez que estemos en Glasgow. gracias a todo el equipo.

Superb set menu lunch, beautifully prepared and presented, a real treat!

My husband and I came here 3 years ago while touring Scotland, and we still talk about this restaurant. That’s the highest compliment I can think of!

Visited today for my fiancé’s birthday and we were blown away by the whole experience. The service was great, food was out of this world and we both left feeling fully satisfied like nothing else could have been done to make our time any better. You get exactly what you pay for in this restaurant. Brilliant time had and we shall 100 percent be dining here in the near future.

Had lunch here yesterday.superb.lunch was great value for money.food was amazing and the young members of staff that were serving knew what they were doing.nothing was a problem.Cant even pick a dish that was a favourite as everything was superb.would like to come back for dinner now.dont miss this place.well worth 3 rosettes and would certainly not disagree if they received a Michelin star.first class

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. For the price it represents excellent value for money. We had the 4 course tasting menu, which is actually 6 courses by the time you add an amuse bouche and a pre-dessert. We both had excellent Negronis and a decent bottle of white wine. (Don't get me started on restaurant prices for wine!). The music was unobtrusive and the overall atmosphere was excellent. Plenty of room between tables. A couple of minor gripes - my wife's cad dish was lukewarm and we had to ask for the coffee that was included in the voucher we had. My chicken was superb and, although it was a tasting menu, portions were very good and we were both full at the end. Overall five stars and we will definitely return.

Way over exceeded our expectations. We took the recommendation of a great shop owner in Wakefield, RI., who overheard Patti say we were going to Scotland. The shipowner said, if you are anywhere near Glasgow or only have one thing to do, go to “The Gannett”. She was right. Drinks, service, atmosphere, price all amazing. And the food? Blow away good! So filling we couldn’t do dessert. You try it for us and let us know, will ya?

Beyond expectations in every element of the meal and wine. Knowledgeable staff ... enabelers of a relaxing foodie treat. We took the 77 bus from buchanan St bus garage it proved easy both ways and capped lovely evening . Well done The Gannet

Booked a dinner reservation for a Saturday night- not told of any time restrictions but advised after 1 hour 45 mins table was needed for next clients. When spending £100 a head I expected fine (relaxed )dining-if I had wanted fast food would have booked McDonald’s. On balance food and service was good but beware the click is ticking.

Fantastic food and service. I had the Isle of Wight tomato dish and artichoke truffle pasta dish. Absolutely amazing. I came for an early dinner. The staff made me feel so welcome. Highly recommend.

Have been a few times now and it seems to get better with each visit. The food and the service is fantasic. We always go for the taster menu. The best recomendation I can make is to go and try for yourself.

Awesome dining experience! Unbelievable food

Lovely restaurant for fine dining. We had excellent oysters, cod and deer. Everything was delicious. Also the wines and of course the service and atmosphere.

Gannet/MacNeil Seafood Sunday Lunch: The team here completely lived up to their own high standards - again. Beautifully presented, expertly cooked series of seafood creations with the Spider Crab and the poached Lobster the standouts for us. Excellent wines by the glass and all served very well by the excellent front of house team. We don’t know a better or more consistent restaurant in the Glasgow area - highly recommended if you want to treat yourself.

Had a stunning seafood lunch at The Gannet yesterday. The wonderful food, wine, ambience and knowledgeable staff combined to make it a truly fantastic experience. The Gannet is one of our most favourite restaurants ever and we always look forward to going. Its food never fails to be anything other than perfect.

Loved everything about it! Went twice, coctails were great, vegetarian/vegan options available, great service and atmosphere. Will definitely come again when in Glasgow.

Fabulous seafood lunch - the best restaurant and the best value for money in Glasgow. The staff are first class - the perfect balance of being attentive without being intrusive.

How did I not know about this restaurant? Must try harder ☺️. Nice looking restaurant, very friendly greeting, super service from a very nice young lady. The food was beautifully presented and tasty and I’d really recommend the duck which had fabulous different tastes and textures which blended superbly. My sister advised the wine list and the wine she drank was very good. Not cheap but so very well worth it.

Fantastic experience here, second visit, the food is outstanding. Very creative and interesting dishes that showcase a high level of skill and imagination. The waiting staff deserve equal praise, they are always there when you need them and invisible when you don’t, a very tricky skill to master and one that results in a flawless customer service experience. Highly recommended.

What a gastronomic experience! The Gannet is a quiet & relaxing restaurant, all the staff friendly and extremely attentive. Food and drinks were amazing, wonderful flavours, beautifully delivered. An incredible experience that was well worth the wait. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We ordered two courses each and we were also given stunning complimentary bread and a taste sensation mushroom doughnut. Every component part of each plate was delicious and combined perfectly as a whole dish. The Gannet is a must visit if you’re in Glasgow, but make sure you book well in advance.

We are life-long foodies and Sunday lunch at The Gannet was the best meal we've had in Glasgow since moving here late last Summer: the cooking is both highly imaginative and technically precise, and presentation is consistently superb. The 'Ajoblanco with melon sorbet and almonds' was amongst the most surprising and delicious dishes we have ever tasted. There is a good selection of decent wines by the glass, and service from the lovely staff is efficient, friendly and charming. Whilst the interior décor is not unacceptable, it has an oddly rustic, passé feel which is markedly at odds with the absolutely cutting-edge cuisine, not unlike some establishments in Paris. But in a word, The Gannet is: "superb".

Food was delicious and very much enjoyed the menu choice, the terrine and brioche delish, the cod perfectly cooked and the raspberry soufflé was again perfect… staff well trained and focussed on service and the atmosphere nice and chilled with a great playlist in the background….

We went here for birthday celebration and it was fantastic… chef here is very creative .. we had a real fine dining experience … every single course that came out was unique and tasty.. drinks were amazing too .. among cocktails Negroni and old fashion were the winner .. we also had a series of wine tasting that was amazing … starters and pre deserts were a super awesome.. overall it lived up to my New York fine dinning experience … would definitely come here again when I visit Glasgow… and highly recommend anyone looking for fine dining experience!!!

We did the tasting menu, and we enjoyed everything very much along with the excellent wine pairings. The two courses I loved the most were the cured halibut and the onion veloute. The aged beef was tasty but a little hard to cut with the knife provided. Other than that small critique, everything was just spot on. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. Next time in glasgow, I will definitely visit again.

A must visit - took us a long time to get there but it was fabulous! We had the seasonal lunch and each course was amazing. The presentation of the food and the flavours of each dish were an experience . The service was really good too - we will definitely go back, been raving about it all week!

The standard of cuisine was beyond reproach. From the home made breads to the seafood starter, the ajo blanco, fish and meat main courses, all the flavours were powerful and textures exquisite. I do like the idea too of a pre dessert followed by the stunning soufflé. Maybe invest in a gaggia style machine for the coffee, but otherwise no issues. Staff were efficient and personable. Will return soon!

Cannot highly recommend this restaurant enough the welcome from Kevin and the staff is so lovely, food is of a very high standard , the atmosphere just makes everything perfect. I would suggest all should visit this restaurant and I am sure you would look forward to a return visit. We visit many restaurants, the Gannet is definitely the top of our list. 🥂Look forward to our next visit.

My wife and I had a great 3 course meal from the a la cart menu. All courses were beautifully presented and had fantastic flavour. Catered really well for my wife’s gluten intolerance. Very helpful and friendly staff would definitely recommend

Wonderful service from the moment we arrived and the cosy atmosphere was lovely. It is a limited menu for anyone who is fussy but we loved everthing on offer. The home made bread was absolutely delicious and the hock beignet left you wanting more. We both chose fish starters and mains. The sea trout starter was fantastic and the sauce was divine! The lemon sole main with crab ravioli was delicious but we felt it lacked any texture, it was just all a bit too soft. We would have enjoyed some sort of vegetable side. The addition of a candle in my husbands dessert for his birthday was a lovely touch. Would definitely highly recommend. Special mention to Jasmine who looked after us so well!

Every dish on the 6 course tasting menu was delicious but the hogget main was especially wonderful! Excellent flavours across the board, great cocktails and friendly, helpful staff. I highly recommend you try The Gannet. And 5 years later, in June 2024, we returned and it was still excellent. The bread was outstanding and the oyster with Vietnamese dressing a superb start. Two stand out dishes were the cured halibut with soy, yuzu and wasabi ice-cream and the onion velouté with morels, each mouthful slicked in garlic butter - absolutely delicious! Portion size and pacing were just right for this style of service and we left feeling very pleased.

Quality of food perfection, service could be better

The bill ruins an ok meal: without any warning, I was volunteered to make a pound of donation by the waitress, and on top of that, I have to pay 10% of service fee for making this donation. If the first part is just a shady practice, I failed to find any rationale for the service charge on a donation amount. Yes, I know this is just a very small amount. And yes, the waitress returned this donation and its related service charge in cash immediately. But all these just should not happen. Overall, the food was clearly carefully prepared. But I agree with one other recent comment that the food was just of average quality for a fine dining; most dishes are not delicate enough in flavor, and some ingredients (for instance, the mussel in the starter) is not as fresh as those in other nearby restaurants. Probably not as good as any decent bistro in the heart of Paris. It is just a pity, as I had a high expectation for this restaurant given the google reviews.

Absolutely outstanding food and service. From the moment we arrived had the service was excellent with the perfect blend of professionalism and friendliness so much so that although service charge was added to the meal we left additional tip. Every single dish we had was not only beautifully presented but tasted out of this world. We are foodies and have eaten at a lot of restaurants from Michelin Starred to rustic and this is one of the best food experiences we have had including the Michelin Starred restaurants. Considering in a city our fish dishes were amongst the best we have ever tasted. We started with onion mousse start -paper think melt in the mouth cheese pastry with light and delicious mousse; start off cured halibut , followed by monkfish with a crab cannelloni were not only beautifully presented but tasted out of this world. Dessert was also excellent as was the wine selection. Cannot wait to go back! Thank you

We booked the Gannet with high expectations... but left disappointed and still rather hungry. The portions of the tasting menu are really small, and worse: some are rather tasteless. We are probably spoiled because we visit the best restaurants in Europe frequently, but price/quality here did not meet our standards.

Fantastic food. Good wine (Au Bon Climat). My only complaint was the chairs were excruciating if you have a bad back.

We had an amazing experience at The Gannet, the food was outstanding, the service was brilliant and staff were all very friendly. I am quite a fussy eater but absolutely loved everything and certainly feel open to trying more new foods. We had the set price lunch menu which was definitely worth the price and will 100% be returning in the future!

Fabulous service, informed, welcoming without being over formal. Lovely atmosphere, warm, inclusive. Food varied from exceptional to somewhat odd. Oyster; phenomenal. Halibut and veloute; fabulous. Duck; not so great. somewhat flat and not fusing with the pain d'epice. Sea bass; superb, synthesised so beautifully in texture and flavour. Beef; over salted and awkward in presentation. How to combine agar coffee with lemon gel and salty beef... Not quite there. So much to love; would be very happy to come back again to see how they develop the dishes.

We had their very fine 3-course a la carte menu. Highlights included the cherry soufflé, monkfish with XO sauce, and Scottish beef. Excellent, understated service. Innovative cocktail program too. Kudos to the pastry chef 👏

The Gannet showing yet again why it's the best. Impeccable food, unbeatable hospitality and beautiful and well thought-out surroundings. Everything from the snacks to the souffle and the soundtrack in between was faultless. Kevin's hospitality and knack of making everyone feel at ease and welcome is second to none, Amy's attention to detail and charm is amazing. Of course Peter and his team in the kitchen as always are plating up some of the best food in Scotland with the highest quality of produce whilst paying attention to the seasons and still offering affordability. For me it is Glasgow in a restaurant.

Really one of the best meals that I've had in some time. The tasting course was all hits and really hit the modern Scottish vibe that they are going for. The drinks menus was also really solid; the cocktails that I ordered were refreshing and perfectly matched the dinner. The wine pairing sounded good from the wines that were discussed to the table next to me, though I didn't order personally. Thought the price was reasonable. Really a must visit in Glasgow if you like fine dining.

Where to start… we were so happy to be there. The food was so good- I think that was the best food I’ve ever tasted. Every course was super, I really couldn’t fault it… The staff were lovely and attentive without over doing it. I went with my husband to celebrate his 70th birthday. I’ll definitely be back!

Tess was our server, she was so attentive, knowledgeable and personable. All of the food was good and a special experience was had, but Tess’ service was the main memory I will have from my visit. With each wine pairing she explained it as though she had lived her life knowing about it, she made us feel at ease and as though nothing was too much to ask for. She is a credit to the Gannet !

A lunch, one month in the making: Having planed to come to Glasgow for a conference, I needed to pepper my long conference day with something to look forward to. A month ago, I took the liberty to book The Gannet to help me push through day 1, and boy did it help! Outstanding service aside, the food was exquisite: the oyster was very refreshing, the bread and butter, well, excellent. On to the starters with smoked duck on little beds of rhubarb, a genius touch that gives the texture of something akin to onion, but sweeter and milder at the same time. The fish main dish was a star, packed full of umami, fat, salt, and a hence of acidity, the buttery sauce called for another serving of bread to clean that plate up!! Finale was left to the wonderful Tess to choose and surprise me, who opted, and thankfully so for the strawberry soufflé. With a lemon/ginger pre -dessert priort, It ranks among top best 3 soufflés I had, ahead of the like Alain Ducasse's by a mile! Light, fluffy, sweet -but not too sweet! With a cup of excellent coffee and a chocolate/toffee finale for closure, what could more I ask for? Oh, did I mention they have delicious mocktails? Thanks for a wonderful lunch. Rest of the day was much easier!

Lovely food in a lovely setting. We had an early lunch and it was beautiful quiet. I'm sure with a few more guests the atmosphere would have been perfect. The chicken and asparagus was fantastic and absolutely the highlight of the lunch.

On a 10 day trip to Glasgow recently this was by & far the best meal I had. I found it on my 1st cold ,rainy day in the SEC neighborhood while looking for a place for dinner before the World Championships madness started the following day. The 3 course meal was amazing & the host Kevin was lovely & welcoming. The bread was divine, the duck sublime, the pasta delicious & the dessert was the best part. Highly recommend & I look forward to being back on my next visit x

A perfect evening with fantastic food. Surprising dishes and combinations with a spectaculair wine pairing. And the waitress was a doll.

Visited back in December as a pre-xmas treat, had a lovely time and enjoyed all the food and the service was friendly and attentive. There were some great individual bits on offer across the menu and everything was very enjoyable, but nothing that really blew my socks off. I'd happily eat here again, but as it's on the pricey side it maybe missed some of the magic I look for at this price point to make me want to rush back.

An amazing evening of food and wine. We had the tasting menu and it was fantastic food and wine and the server's knowledge was really good. Few little niggly downsides would be, slightly overpriced, I have had better meals for that much money, the host on arrival was watching the rugby on an iPad which was slightly disappointing, and also on one course (cheese) our server was explaining the wine pairing and was rudely interrupted by another server with the course, she could have waiting for one minute it wasn't warm food. That feedback is more for the restaurant, don't let it put you off though if you want a special date night.

First time and certainly will not be the last. We always had the impression that we would feel uncomfortable going to a fine dining restaurant, we need not have worried the atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were attentive without being overly so. Fixed price A la carte menu excellent though somewhat expensive, typically 4 options per course. Taster menu v popular. Nice subdued decor, 80s music. Staff very friendly, describing courses in detail. Should always book.

Many thanks to Kevin & his excellent team!! we celebrated my duaghter's 18th with the tasting menu and the paired wines (which were fantastic). we had a fab time, they looked after us incredibly well, would not hesitate to go back!
